Chapter 7
Inuyasha awoke in an unfamiliar position to a very LOUD sound.  He would have thrown the alarm clock against the far wall of the room if Kagome hadn't shut it off and turned over. She was now facing him in the bed.  She yawned and looked at him.
“You're still human, good.”
“Why is that good?” he insisted.
“It means that were up on time, the festival hasn't started yet.”
Kagome's mother knocked on the door and came into the room, much to Kagome's fear.
“Mom!  I can explain…” she started.
“No need Kagome, I don't mind if you sleep with Inuyasha.”
Kagome breathed a deep sigh of relief.  She was worried that her mother wouldn't let her see Inuyasha anymore, “what did you want mom?”
“Put your robe on and come to my room, I have a surprise for you.”  Kagome did as she was told and the young woman followed her mother to her bedroom.  There she found a beautiful pink kimono with red sakura all over it.  For Inuyasha she had made a red yukata with black trim.
“Oh they're beautiful!  Kagome exclaimed, “you made these for us?”
Mrs. Higurashi nodded, “I've been working on them ever since your grandfather started planning the festival.  I thought Inuyasha should wear something other than his haori, it's beginning to smell.”
“No kidding, I had to make him take a bath yesterday,” Kagome said without thinking.  Fortunately her mother didn't catch the light blush that rose to her cheeks.  “Mom, why don't you mind me sleeping with Inuyasha?  I figured you'd totally freak when you saw me with him.”
“He protects you.  He doesn't want to see you hurt.  I know he won't take advantage of you.  I trust him.  He won't take you without your permission.  Just don't let your grandfather catch the two of you together.”
“I won't mom.  Do you want me to get Inuyasha?”
“No, you'll have a hard enough time getting him out of that nasty haori.  Why don't you get dressed in here and take it to him when you're done?”
“Okay.”
Mrs. Higurashi left her daughter to change.  As she walked past Kagome's bedroom, she saw Inuyasha pacing and brooding.  It was strange to see him with black hair.
“Are you alright, Inuyasha?”  She asked.
“I'm fine,” he said matter-of-factly, “I just don't like my human form much.”
“Why?  It's part of who you are isn't it?”
“I don't like feeling weak.”
“Kagome doesn't think you are weak, and I certainly don't.”
“Kagome…” He looked down, then out the window.  There was a thoughtful, far away look in his eyes.  “She deserves better then me.”
“Let her decide that.”
Just than, Kagome walked in dressed in her new kimono.  Inuyasha couldn't keep his eyes off of her.  He wasn't sure if the fact that he was human made it better or worse.
“What are you staring at Inuyasha?”  Kagome asked, smiling.
“You're…” he stammered.
Kagome giggled and shooed her mother out of the room.  Inuyasha finally saw the yukata she was holding.
“Is that for me?”
“Mmhm, my mother made this for you.  Do you want me to leave so you can change?”
Inuyasha took the garments from her hand and laid them on the bed.  He wanted so badly to just kiss her.  He had to restrain himself as he did.  Kagome responded with just as much emotion.  He wished he had the heart to rip the beautiful kimono off of her and take her but he knew she wouldn't let him.  Sadly, he broke the kiss, but he refused to let her go.
“Every guy at this festival will be jealous of me,” he finally said.
“Why?” Kagome asked grinning.
“Because I'm going with the most beautiful woman in Japan.”
“Inuyasha,” she giggled.
“I mean it, Kagome.  You're absolutely stunning in that kimono.”
Kagome looked at her clothes the best she could from within the weakened half-demon's embrace, “you like it?”
“No, I love it.  Almost as much as I love you in it.”
“Oh, Inuyasha,” Kagome cooed as she nuzzled his chest.  She pulled back almost immediately, “mom was right, that haori smells awful.  Why don't you change?”
“Only if you promise to stay in the room,” he said.
