Chapter 9
In the feudal era, Shippou arrived at Kaede's hut.
“Hello, Shippou, how are ye? How go things in the new village?”
“Miroku and Sango wanted me to wait here for Inuyasha and Kagome,” the fox kit said after catching the seasoned priestess up on the latest news from the former village of the demonslayers.
“Why is that?”
“They want me to invite them to the wedding.”
“Wedding?”
“Yep, Sango finally decided to take Miroku up on his offer. You're invited too, they want everyone to be there.”
“How did this happen?”
“Well, I'm not to clear on all the details, but she was kidnapped by some demons and he rescued her. He told her he loved her and when they came back the next day Kohaku called him his brother.”
“That must be a very interesting tale to hear in its whole.”
The fox pouted, “I'm sure it is but they wont tell me.”
“I am certain you will know soon enough.”
The kit sighed, found a corner and fell asleep.
At the festival, Inuyasha was being introduced to Kagome's friends. They had commented on how real his dog-ears looked. Kagome giggled and told them they were right, they, “looked,” very real. It was just about then that Hojo walked up.
He wasn't wearing a yukata like almost all of the other men there. Instead he was in an open sweatshirt and shorts, as it was a very hot summer day.
“Hi, Kagome, this is a great festival.”
“Hey, Hojo, thanks for coming.”
Inuyasha didn't much like the way he was looking at Kagome. “Kagome, who is this guy?”
“Oh, Inuyasha this is Hojo, he's a from my school days. Hojo this is Inuyasha.” Hojo offered Inuyasha his hand, “nice to meet you.”
“Feh,” Inuyasha huffed, refusing the younger man's hand.
“Well…Kagome, is that a new kimono?”
“Yeah, do you like it?”
“Yeah, it looks nice.”
Inuyasha's eyebrow twitched, “nice? Just nice? How can you say she just looks nice?”
`Uh oh, this could be trouble,' Kagome thought as a sweatdrop appeared on her forehead. “Inuyasha maybe you should…”
“No, not until he apologizes for insulting you.”
“Hey, it's no big deal. It's just a stupid kimono,” Hojo said, trying to settle the situation peacefully. Yeah, like that worked.
“STUPID!? Kagome, stand back, someone has to sho this dumbass some manners.”
Kagome's friends dragged her out of harm's way. That was when she saw what was on the back of Inuyasha's yukata for the first time. It was a silver sunburst rimmed in gold, in the center of the sun was a red crescent that reminded her of the Tetsuiga.
“Inuyasha don't make me say it,” Kagome blurted.
Inuyasha looked back at her in fear, “you wouldn't.”
“You know very well that I would, and I don't want to do that to you in front of my friends.”
Inuyasha's ears flattened in defeat as he pouted, “fine, but I still think he should…stop that!”
Kagome had started nuzzling his chest and lightly tickling his belly. “Calm down Inuyasha. It's okay.”
“But your not just nice,” he mumbled wrapping his arms around her, “you're a goddess.”
`Only someone who is in love with me would say something like that,' Kagome thought. Out loud she said, “than I guess his feelings for me aren't as strong as yours are.”
That caught the half-demon off guard, “he'd better not if he knows what's good for him,” he growled softly. Inuyasha nuzzled softly on Kagome's neck.
“Kagome, we're going home, it's getting late. It was nice meeting you Inuyasha.”
“Hmm? Yeah, you too,” he said barely shifting his attention away from Kagome.
“I'll see you guys tomorrow, okay?”
“Bye, Kagome.”
“We should be heading in soon too,” Kagome said as her friends and Hojo walked away.
“Yeah, besides I'm starving.”
“You're always starving at dinnertime,” she giggled.
“So what if I am?” Inuyasha grumbled playfully as he picked Kagome up.
She screamed and kicked playfully as he ran with her towards the house. He put her down outside, though Kagome pulled him in for a kiss. Inuyasha wrapped an arm around her waist while his hand cupped her chin. She felt so good against him and her kiss; her kiss made him wonder if he did love her.
The doorknob creaked and their blissful affection came to an abrupt end as the would-be couple pushed each other away.
“Mom wanted me to come get you and Inuyasha, Kagome,” Souta said opening the door. He ignored the blush on the adults' cheeks. The teenager rolled his eyes, “just come in, dinner is ready.”
Dinner this time was another of Inuyasha's favorites, steak. He ate ferociously until Kagome told him to behave. Than, Mrs. Higurashi spoke up.
“I went shopping today to get clothes for you, Inuyasha.”
“What for? What's wrong with my clothes?”
“Well they're a little out dated to wear outside of the shrine. Besides I still have to repair them.”
“Whatever,” he said. Inuyasha didn't much like some of the ways of Kagome's world, but he could live with them…most of the time.
“Good, the bags are in Kagome's room. Souta can help you if you need anything.”
“But…” Inuyasha started, glancing at Kagome. She shook her head slightly, letting him know that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to have her in the room. He nodded, getting the message.
