Chapter 14
When they arrived in Inuyasha's era they were met by a large, flying ball of orange fur.
“KAGOME! YOU'RE BACK!”
“Shippou! Hey!” She replied as she hugged the young fox demon. “Mmm, I missed you. Wait till you and Kaede hear about the festival.”
“Festival?”
“Yeah. It was for Inuyasha, but it was for the shrine too.”
Inuyasha caught sight of movement in the forest. Turning he saw a light and a snake-like tail shifting between the trees.
“Kagome, why don't you go to Kaede's and tell them about the festival.”
Kagome looked up at her half-demon love, “why, is something wrong?”
“No,” he said, kissing her on the forehead, “just some unfinished business I have to attend to. I'll be along soon, I promise.”
“Okay,” she said, not convinced.
Inuyasha turned and walked into the forest towards the god tree. The place that meant so much to him and both of the women he had loved. She was waiting there for him.
“Kikyo,” he said walking towards her. “I thought that you were dead.”
“I am, Inuyasha. I want you to be with me.”
Inuyasha looked down, then up, “I can't die for you anymore, Kikyo. I don't love you anymore.” He turned to walk away.
“I don't understand, is it her?”
“Yes, it is. It's over between us, Kikyo. It may be that we met so that she and I could be together, but that doesn't matter anymore. It's been fifty-five years since you died and sealed me to this tree; it's time for you to move on. I have. You died, I lived, for her.” He sighed, “I'm where I belong, it's time for you to stay where you belong.”
She was in tears, “so this is it?”
He nodded once, “goodbye, Kikyo. Be at peace.”
Inuyasha waked back to the village, alone, but happy.
