Chapter 15
At the village, Kagome and Shippou were chatting away. Then the fox asked the girl a question.
“Kagome, do you like me?”
“Of course I like you, Shippou, I adore you.”
The kit frowned and said, “ever since my father was killed you've been like my mother and Inuyasha, as much as a pain as he was, is like my father almost. Do you think that you could ever think of me as your son?”
“Yeah, I think that I kind of always have. Inuyasha and I have taken care of you since we first met you. I love you, Shippou.”
“I love you too, Kagome. Do you think…do you think I could come with you to your era?”
Kagome smiled warmly, “it wouldn't hurt to try.” She giggled, “you are my son now after all.”
“Do you think that you and,” he shuddered, “Father will ever get together?”
Kagome looked up as the half-demon in question walked out of the woods. “Maybe. Maybe we will be very soon.”
“Hey, squirt what'cha talkin' about?” Inuyasha asked.
“Just how you and Kagome have been like my parents since mine were killed.”
“Parents, huh? Well,” he said picking the kit up, “I guess you're right. What do you think Kagome?”
“I think we would make a very nice family.”
“Then it's settled, Shippou you are ours.”
“Speaking of families, Miroku and Sango want you to meet them at the village.”
“What could those two want?” Inuyasha asked.
“You'll see when we get there,” was all Shippou would tell them.
At the demonslayers village, the newly founded family was met with a surprise. Miroku was fondling Sango's rear and not getting slapped!
“When did this start?” Inuyasha asked.
“Just after you left,” Kohaku answered walking up. “Miroku is my brother now. I think that this is what my sister and I needed most.
“Inuyasha! Kagome! Welcome!” Miroku called noticing them finally.
Sango hugged Kagome warmly, “we have such wonderful news. Miroku and I are getting married.
“I'm so happy for you Sango. Congratulations!”
“Feh, took you long enough.”
“Can the same not be said for you Inuyasha?” Miroku asked slyly.
Inuyasha and Kagome shared a look. Shippou looked between his new parents. Finally, after Kagome started turning a really interesting shade of pink, Inuyasha replied with a cocky smile.
“Kagome and I are lovers,” he looked down at Shippou, “and adoptive parents. So I guess, yeah, you could say that.” (Author's Note: I wanted to do this the way my fiancé told me we were dating and this is as close as I could get while still fitting the flow of the story. What he did was he basically announced that we were dating in front of all of our friends when earlier that day we had decided that we were `friends with benefits.' He's like that though.
Kagome looked at her lover, is that what they were now? “What about…”
“Kikyo?” Inuyasha shook his head, “gone. I love you Kagome. You've opened parts of me that I never knew existed; parts that she could never touch. I'm going to spend the rest of my life with you whether you like it or not. You're stuck with me.”
“Me too,” Shippou said, not to be forgotten.
Kagome smiled and laughed, flinging her arms around her lover's neck, “well that makes three of us. I love you too, Inuyasha. I always have.”
The couple kissed deeply for a long time. Soon, they realized that they needed to head back home for the end of the festival.
“Come on kiddo, time for you to meet the rest of your new family,” Inuyasha said to Shippou as he carried him and Kagome down through the well.
