’s A Wonderful Life
Chapter 2
Miroku was getting annoyed. Inuyasha and Kagome should have been back twenty minutes ago. He was going to take Sango to a play. It was a fairy tale about a young Japanese woman falling through a well in modern era Tokyo and ending up in the feudal era with a hanyou. He thought the idea was hilarious and he knew Sango would love it.
However, the show started in an hour and if Inuyasha wasn’t back soon they weren’t going to make it in time.
He looked over to find Shippo sleeping while Sango read some type of book, although he couldn’t see the cover to read the title.
The kit was recovering quite well, although he was still tired a lot. It was just his body healing itself and it was normal so Miroku wasn’t worried. Although it did give him an idea. He got up and walked across the room and held out his hand to Sango. She looked up confused.
“What?”
“Come here.” Sango gave him a skeptical look but got up and held her hand out to him, sitting the book down on the chair. When he grasped it he pulled her to the door and outside. Once outside he leaned down and placed his lips to hers. He was surprised when she responded. He had been expecting her to pull away.
He opened his mouth just a little bit and allowed his tongue to graze her lip ever so slightly. She opened her mouth a little in return and Miroku took full advantage, slipping his tongue into her mouth. He moved his hands from hers to her side. He slid them up and down until they reached her bottom. Sango instantly pulled away and slapped him.
“Why Miroku? Huh? Why do you have to ruin everything?”
“But Sango what did I do wrong? My hand has a mind of its own.”
Sango simply huffed and turned to go back into the hospital room. Miroku was soon to follow her.

Inuyasha and Kagome arrived back at the hospital around a half hour after they told Miroku and Sango they would be.
Kagome stopped to go the bathroom while Inuyasha went on to tell Miroku they could leave.
He arrived at the room a few minutes later to see Miroku laying on the ground next to Shippo’s bed.
“Oi, Miroku!”
Miroku looked up from his stupor. “Ah yes, Inuyasha there you are.” He used the bed to help himself up and stood in front of his friend.
“So what exactly have you been trying to do in front of Shippo?”
Miroku had an innocent look on his face when he answered, “I assure you Inuyasha I wasn’t trying to do anything in front of the child.”
“Oh yeah then why are you on the floor with a hand print on your face?”
“My hand has a mind of its own. I’ve told you this before.”
Inuyasha snorted. “I’m sure.”
“It’s true.”
Inuyasha looked past Miroku to Sango, “what was he trying?”
“He groped me.”
Inuyasha nodded.
Sango looked over to Shippo, who had just woken up, and said, “Shippo don’t you have something to ask Inuyasha?”
Inuyasha looked over to Shippo and the kit looked away shyly. Inuyasha looked back over to Sango who nodded to him and gave him a weird look of amusement. Sango got up and went over to Miroku and took his hand, she ushered him out of the room before his lecherous mind allowed him to speak. She knew what his smile meant.
Once Sango and Miroku were out of the room Inuyasha walked over to Shippo/’s bed and sat down on the chair next to him on the right side. “So, did ya wanna talk about somethin’?
Shippo turned his head away before nodding.
“Well then out with it, I don’t have all day!” Inuyasha said, the irritation evident in his voice.
“Maybe I should talk to Mom about this.”
Inuyasha smelt the embarrassment in Shippo’s scent and decided to push further. “Well if that’s what you want then go ahead, but I think you’re just being a scardy cat.”
“I am not!” Shippo blew up.
“Oh yeah then why aren’t you talkin’ to me?”
Shippo looked down at his lap and said, “I don’t want you to get angry or annoyed with me.”
“Keh. You're making me angry and annoying me now, so what's the big deal?”
Shippo looked up to see Inuyasha staring at him and quickly looked back down. “Because I’m annoying.”
Inuyasha snorted, “so?”
“Yea but..”
“But what kid?”
“Are you gonna get tired of me being annoying and leave?”
Inuyasha was a little shocked, whatever he was expecting, that wasn’t it. “Look kid I don’t plan on leavin’ any time soon.”
“So does that mean you and Mama are gonna get married?”
“I dunno, maybe. But don’t get your hopes up, we’ve only been going out for a week. We’re not even thinkin’ about that yet.”
“But what if you don’t get married and I annoy you so much that you leave?”
“I told ya I ain’t leavin! So stop worrin’ about it!” Inuyasha huffed.
Kagome walked in right after Inuyasha finished. She had been standing outside the door listening since Shippo asked if she was going to marry Inuyasha. Part of her had wanted to storm in right then and stop the conversation, but a larger part of her was curious as to what he’d say to answer the question, so she stayed and eavesdropped. The answer Inuyasha gave didn’t surprise her.
“Hey guys! How are you feeling Shippo?”
“I’m okay Mommy,” he answered brightly. She walked over to his right side and ruffled his hair a little before sitting down on Inuyasha’s lap and giving him a chaste kiss.
“Have they already given you dinner runt?”
“Yea, a little while ago.”
“How were Miroku and Sango?” Kagome asked.
“They were okay. Sango hit Miroku a lot though and they went outside for a minute when they thought I was asleep and when they came back Miroku had a goofy smile on his face.”
Inuyasha and Kagome both laughed.
Things were quiet for a few minutes and Kagome leaned into Inuyasha’s chest and inhaled deeply. She was getting sleepy when he wrapped an arm around her. Her soft snores slowly reached Inuyasha’s ears and he looked over to see Shippo, wide awake. He slowly got up, putting his arm under her legs and carrying her to the bed next to Shippo’s that they had never moved out of the room. He reached down and pulled the blankets down and laid her on the bed before tucking her in and kissing her forehead goodnight. He went back over to Shippo and said, “I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.”

Sesshomaru sat at his desk silently. Rin didn’t normally go to bed at eight but she was very tired out from her show. There was no one else in the house and all of the lights were turned out. He kept his ears and nose alert for his ex-lover and tried to figure out the situation. Did Naraku have something planned? It was apparent that he did so the real question was, how big was it, and, more importantly did it involve Rin?
Sesshomaru was no fool, he knew that Naraku was heartless and that if he got it in his head to get revenge on whatever his mind had made their breakup into, then nothing could stop him. Nothing except Sesshomaru that is.
Realizing that his best course of action was too secure the house he got up to look around and be sure all the doors and windows were locked. He doubted that Naraku was going to make a move tonight, but it never hurt to be safe.
He was thinking about what to do about Rin’s school as he reached her bedroom. He walked in the open door and over to her closed window. Pushing the lock closed he came to a decision, he looked over to the sleeping girl. He’d have to pull her out of school and get her a tutor. He really didn’t want to but the school wouldn’t allow her to have bodyguards and he knew that Naraku wouldn’t stop just because of a crowd of students. He made a mental note to have Jaken set up a few interviews with potential tutors the next day.
He walked out of the room, leaving the door open and walked into the bedroom next door that belonged to him to get ready for bed himself.

Naraku was furious when he found out about the incident between Sesshomaru and Kagura and Kanna. He wasn’t upset because the youkai had hurt Kagura, but rather because they allowed themselves to be caught.
“I thought I told you how good his nose is. He could know you’re there for three years before he even let off a signal that he knew. I told you that.” He bellowed.
Kanna simply looked off into space as Naraku yelled. Kagura, on the other hand looked him in the eye. Naraku was standing perfectly still as he yelled, looking Kagura in the eye.
Suddenly he reached out and grabbed her by the neck. “Do you have something to say Kagura?”
“No,” Kagura ground out.
“Good,” he answered before dropping her to the ground and turning to walk out of the room.
Kagura looked over to Kanna, who had turned around and walked over to the bathroom door. “Hey Kanna! Kanna turned around and stared at Kagura, “why didn’t you say anything tonight?”
Kanna simply turned around and walked into the bathroom.

Inuyasha walked back into the room quietly, as he didn’t want to wake Kagome up. He looked over to see Shippo still awake and allowed himself a small smile. He walked over to the bed and set down. He handed Shippo a bag and watched as he opened it.
Shippo opened the bag slowly, fully aware that Inuyasha was watching his every move. He was surprised to see a box that read PSP that appeared to be unopened meaning that the box most likely held a brand new PSP. He got really excited as opened the box.
“Oh my God, a PSP I can’t believe it.”
“Yea well I was at the mall yesterday picking something up and I thought you might like it
and look,” Inuyasha pulled out another PSP.
“This way we can play without waking up Mom.” Shippo said excitedly.
“That’s the idea.” Inuyasha reached into his bag and pulled out two of the same games and
threw one to Shippo and opened the other for himself.
“Hey can we get a few more games?”
“Sure, we’ll go when you get out of the hospital.”
Shippo smiled at him before declaring that he was gonna kick Inuyasha’s butt.
Shippo’s sleeping habits had been a little off balance and so he had been staying up later than Kagome. Since Inuyasha needed less sleep than them he was up later too. Over the past week they had been staying up together talking. Inuyasha had been at the mall the day before when he remembered Shippo saying he’d always wanted a PSP but Kagome didn’t have the money to afford one for him. When he saw the PSP’s in the window at Radioshack he got an idea and went in to buy two of them.
“Yeah right kid, I’m soooo much better than you at videogames!”
“We’ll see about that!”

Miroku opened the door and helped Sango into the car. “So what did you think of the play?” He then went around the car and got in on the driver's side.
Sango looked over to him and laughed, “it was really funny. Although I can’t see anyone being as mean as that demon slayer was to that monk. Although I guess he had it coming. Miroku laughed along with her.
Sango looked over to Miroku and said, “thanks for a great night.”
“Well then you won’t mind doing it again?” He asked hopeful.
“No I wouldn’t, only next time I want to pick the place.”
“Okay then what do you suggest?”
“You’ll see.”
“Okay then. I like surprises, when do you suggest we do this?”
“How about tomorrow? I get off work at 4, we could go at 6.”
“Sounds good to me, I’ll pick you up at 6 then.” Miroku pulled up to Sango’s apartment building.
“Oh and wear something casual.” She said as she got out of the car.

Sesshomaru went into the hospital bright and early, with Rin in tow. He wasn’t taking any chances with her and the safest place he knew for her was with him. She followed him to his office and he instructed her to sit in his chair while he went back into the hall to speak to Jaken.
Rin was sleepy and had her head on the desk before he even turned to leave.
“Jaken!”
The imp appeared at his side seconds later, “yes sir”
“I want you to find Rin a suitable tutor. I’m going to home school her from now on. I need someone loyal, hard working, capable, and intelligent.”
“Yes sir, right away sir.” Sesshomaru stood and watched as the imp scurried off.
He went back into his office and picked up his sleeping daughter. He needed his desk and she needed to sleep in a bed. So he carried her down to Shippo’s room. He knew that Inuyasha would be in there since he was technically off today and Kagome had to work. He also knew that the hanyou wouldn’t let anything happen to his niece.
He opened to door to find Inuyasha sleeping in a chair next to Shippo’s bed, in his clothes, slouched over; Shippo asleep on his bed with a PSP in his hand and Kagome in the other bed asleep. He waited a few moments before Inuyasha picked up his scent and woke up.
Inuyasha looked at him groggily. “Is there something you need?”
“Yes, follow me.” Sesshomaru went over and laid Rin down on the end of Shippo’s bed.
Inuyasha followed Sesshomaru into the hall, not wanting to wake anyone.
“I need you to watch Rin today.”
“Oh yea, why? Doesn’t she have school today?”
“No she is no longer in school.”
Inuyasha was caught a little off guard, “why did something happen?” He knew his brother wouldn’t just take the girl out of school without a reason.
“Naraku.” Suddenly Inuyasha understood, his brother was worried about Naraku coming after Rin.
“Okay sure, but you owe me.”
“Owe you? Owe you what?”
“I don’t know, I’ll think of something.”
Sesshomaru gave him a dry look. “Just don’t let anything happen.”
“Keh.”
With that Sesshomaru walked off.
“Hey!” Inuyasha yelled after him.
Sesshomaru turned to him.
“Are you getting her a tutor?”
“Yes I am.”
“Well have you found anyone yet?”
“No I have not. I have Jaken looking for eligible candidates right now.”
“What about Kagome?”
“What about her?”
“Why don’t you hire her?”
“I do not think so.”
“Why not, she’s smart, she’s great with kids, and she would make a great teacher.”
“Have her give Jaken a resume and I’ll think about it.”
“Look you owe me for watching Rin! And if you hire Kagome to be her tutor I’ll be there to make Naraku doesn’t try anything.”
Sesshomaru looked his brother over, Inuyasha wanted him to hire Kagome for more than Rin’s safety. “Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why do you want me to hire her?”
“Because I know she can do the job and that way Rin’ll be protected.”
“Bull.”
“What?”
“Bull, I can see that you want to protect Rin but there is another reason your so adamant about it.”
Inuyasha mumbled something even Sesshomaru couldn’t understand.
“What was that?”
“For Kagome.”
“How would this help her?”
“Why should I even be telling you. You ain’t gonna hire her.”
“On the contrary, little brother if you give me a compelling enough reason I may be persuaded to hire her.”
“Look Kagome works her ass off and makes pennies. I already know that she won’t take any money from me, especially since I paid the hospital bills. Since Shippo’s surgery she’s worked nearly 50 hours and it’s only been 6 days. And that isn’t including the 16 hours she’s planning to work tomorrow. Plus this way she’d get to spend some more time with Shippo.”
Sesshomaru looked his brother over, there was no scent of deception but there was desperation. “Have her give Jaken a resume.”
Inuyasha nodded and walked back into the room, now he just had to talk Kagome into it.
When he got back into the room Kagome was just waking up. “Morning,” she called.
“Good morning.”
“Who’s the girl?”
“Oh, that’s my niece Rin.”
“Niece? You mean Sesshomaru has a kid?”
“Yup, but she’s human. He adopted her a few years ago.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah I know.”
Kagome moved over and picked her up and put her in the bed she had just gotten out of. “How about you just let me borrow your car today since I doubt you’ll be going anywhere.”
“Not a chance. I’ve seen your driving.”
“But Inu-Chan!”
“No.”
“Alright then I’ll just go get ready for work then.”
“Hey Kagome could I talk to you about that?”
“About what? Work?”
“Well yeah. Here, come outside.” Inuyasha grabbed her hand and pulled her into the hallway.
“Look Sesshomaru wants to home school Rin and he needs a tutor. I haven’t talked to him about the money but I think it’ll be more than you’re making for both jobs right now.”
“You want me to be Rin’s tutor?”
“Well, yea. I think you’d make great tutor.”
“But I don’t have a teaching degree!”
“So? You don’t have to have some fancy degree, all he needs is someone to go over her lessons with her. Plus it would give you a lot more time with Shippo. You could even teach them together.”
“That’s true. I didn’t really want to put him in that public school down the street and I can’t afford private school. It may be for the best.”
“See?”
“So what do I have to do?”
“Just give me a resume and I’ll give it to Sesshomaru and we’ll see.”
“Okay, but I don’t want to get my hopes up.”
Inuyasha sighed in relief. He was afraid she’d be angry at him for trying to find her another job.
“Well I’m gonna go get ready for work.”
“Okay.”

Inuyasha had been at the mall the day before when he remembered Shippo saying he’d always wanted a PSP but Kagome didn’t have the money to afford one for him. When he saw the PSP’s in the window at Radioshack he got an idea and went in to buy two of them.
“Yeah right kid, I’m soooo much better than you at videogames!”
“We’ll see about that!”

Miroku opened the door and helped Sango into the car. “So what did you think of the play?” He then went around the car and got in on the driver's side.
Sango looked over to him and laughed, “it was really funny. Although I can’t see anyone being as mean as that demon slayer was to that monk. Although I guess he had it coming. Miroku laughed along with her.
Sango looked over to Miroku and said, “thanks for a great night.”
“Well then you won’t mind doing it again?” He asked hopeful.
“No I wouldn’t, only next time I want to pick the place.”
“Okay then what do you suggest?”
“You’ll see.”
“Okay then. I like surprises, when do you suggest we do this?”
“How about tomorrow? I get off work at 4, we could go at 6.”
“Sounds good to me, I’ll pick you up at 6 then.” Miroku pulled up to Sango’s apartment building.
“Oh and wear something casual.” She said as she got out of the car.

Sesshomaru went into the hospital bright and early, with Rin in tow. He wasn’t taking any chances with her and the safest place he knew for her was with him. She followed him to his office and he instructed her to sit in his chair while he went back into the hall to speak to Jaken.
Rin was sleepy and had her head on the desk before he even turned to leave.
“Jaken!”
The imp appeared at his side seconds later, “yes sir”
“I want you to find Rin a suitable tutor. I’m going to home school her from now on. I need someone loyal, hard working, capable, and intelligent.”
“Yes sir, right away sir.” Sesshomaru stood and watched as the imp scurried off.
He went back into his office and picked up his sleeping daughter. He needed his desk and she needed to sleep in a bed. So he carried her down to Shippo’s room. He knew that Inuyasha would be in there since he was technically off today and Kagome had to work. He also knew that the hanyou wouldn’t let anything happen to his niece.
He opened to door to find Inuyasha sleeping in a chair next to Shippo’s bed, in his clothes, slouched over; Shippo asleep on his bed with a PSP in his hand and Kagome in the other bed asleep. He waited a few moments before Inuyasha picked up his scent and woke up.
Inuyasha looked at him groggily. “Is there something you need?”
“Yes, follow me.” Sesshomaru went over and laid Rin down on the end of Shippo’s bed.
Inuyasha followed Sesshomaru into the hall, not wanting to wake anyone.
“I need you to watch Rin today.”
“Oh yea, why? Doesn’t she have school today?”
“No she is no longer in school.”
Inuyasha was caught a little off guard, “why did something happen?” He knew his brother wouldn’t just take the girl out of school without a reason.
“Naraku.” Suddenly Inuyasha understood, his brother was worried about Naraku coming after Rin.
“Okay sure, but you owe me.”
“Owe you? Owe you what?”
“I don’t know, I’ll think of something.”
Sesshomaru gave him a dry look. “Just don’t let anything happen.”
“Keh.”
With that Sesshomaru walked off.
“Hey!” Inuyasha yelled after him.
Sesshomaru turned to him.
“Are you getting her a tutor?”
“Yes I am.”
“Well have you found anyone yet?”
“No I have not. I have Jaken looking for eligible candidates right now.”
“What about Kagome?”
“What about her?”
“Why don’t you hire her?”
“I do not think so.”
“Why not, she’s smart, she’s great with kids, and she would make a great teacher.”
“Have her give Jaken a resume and I’ll think about it.”
“Look you owe me for watching Rin! And if you hire Kagome to be her tutor I’ll be there to make Naraku doesn’t try anything.”
Sesshomaru looked his brother over, Inuyasha wanted him to hire Kagome for more than Rin’s safety. “Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why do you want me to hire her?”
“Because I know she can do the job and that way Rin’ll be protected.”
“Bull.”
“What?”
“Bull, I can see that you want to protect Rin but there is another reason your so adamant about it.”
Inuyasha mumbled something even Sesshomaru couldn’t understand.
“What was that?”
“For Kagome.”
“How would this help her?”
“Why should I even be telling you. You ain’t gonna hire her.”
“On the contrary, little brother if you give me a compelling enough reason I may be persuaded to hire her.”
“Look Kagome works her ass off and makes pennies. I already know that she won’t take any money from me, especially since I paid the hospital bills. Since Shippo’s surgery she’s worked nearly 50 hours and it’s only been 6 days. And that isn’t including the 16 hours she’s planning to work tomorrow. Plus this way she’d get to spend some more time with Shippo.”
Sesshomaru looked his brother over, there was no scent of deception but there was desperation. “Have her give Jaken a resume.”
Inuyasha nodded and walked back into the room, now he just had to talk Kagome into it.
When he got back into the room Kagome was just waking up. “Morning,” she called.
“Good morning.”
“Who’s the girl?”
“Oh, that’s my niece Rin.”
“Niece? You mean Sesshomaru has a kid?”
“Yup, but she’s human. He adopted her a few years ago.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah I know.”
Kagome moved over and picked her up and put her in the bed she had just gotten out of. “How about you just let me borrow your car today since I doubt you’ll be going anywhere.”
“Not a chance. I’ve seen your driving.”
“But Inu-Chan!”
“No.”
“Alright then I’ll just go get ready for work then.”
“Hey Kagome could I talk to you about that?”
“About what? Work?”
“Well yeah. Here, come outside.” Inuyasha grabbed her hand and pulled her into the hallway.
“Look Sesshomaru wants to home school Rin and he needs a tutor. I haven’t talked to him about the money but I think it’ll be more than you’re making for both jobs right now.”
“You want me to be Rin’s tutor?”
“Well, yea. I think you’d make great tutor.”
“But I don’t have a teaching degree!”
“So? You don’t have to have some fancy degree, all he needs is someone to go over her lessons with her. Plus it would give you a lot more time with Shippo. You could even teach them together.”
“That’s true. I didn’t really want to put him in that public school down the street and I can’t afford private school. It may be for the best.”
“See?”
“So what do I have to do?”
“Just give me a resume and I’ll give it to Sesshomaru and we’ll see.”
“Okay, but I don’t want to get my hopes up.”
Inuyasha sighed in relief. He was afraid she’d be angry at him for trying to find her another job.
“Well I’m gonna go get ready for work.”
“Okay.”
