Chapter 2: Naraku’s Devious Plot

Naraku stared into the depths of Kanna’s mirror as he leaned, cross-legged against the wall. The group of shard hunters had set off a few hours ago, and were currently somewhere north east of his fortress.

His gaze traveled to each of the shard collectors, stopping momentarily to stare at Kagome. She wasn’t wearing her normal attire today, her long, ebony tresses pulled into a bun atop her head, two strands hanging loose, framing her beautiful face. Today though, she wasn’t wearing that revealing half-kimono as he called it, but instead, tight fitting black pants that stopped between her ankles and knees. She wore the most unusual clothes he had ever seen! Her red spaghetti strap shirt shone a small portion of her mid-drift, and came down in a v under her neck, revealing some cleavage, but not enough to think badly of her. And although her strange apparel was revealing, he had to admit, she sported the perfect figure for the clothing she wore.

He smirked lustfully before remembering the whole purpose of his watching her. His face hardened as he remembered her astounding power. If he hadn’t left as he did, he would have been badly wounded, and all because he hadn’t studied each of his opponents carefully enough.

He never did think of her as much of a threat though, when in reality Inuyasha was known as her ‘protector,’ and was amazed when she had protected him in that battle. He could have killed the mutt if it weren’t for her whacko powers taking a hold of her very being.

He scowled just remembering the ‘incident,’ it shouldn’t have happened like that, he should have been the one to come out above the rest, not the bitch of a human miko. Growling, he dismissed his incarnation and called for one of his minions.

“Mayuko!” He bellowed, listening for the sound of scurrying feet, which signified the girl obeying his call. The girl slid open the shoji door, bowing down before her master.

“Yes, Naraku-sama?” He motioned for her to raise, and she did so, her red eyes, rimmed with silver gleamed with trust towards the man who had been so kind to her all these years.

“I want you to do me a favor. This is nothing ordinary, and normally I would take this kind of thing upon myself, but you seem to be ready, and so I am passing this duty on to you.” The girl looked up to him, reflecting pride and honor as she did so.

“Anything master.” She replied, trying to keep her excitement to herself, but failing as a grin spread across her beautiful features. Naraku took a deep breath, this would not be easy on her part, but it would have to work, he needed information and he needed it now.

“I need for you to befriend my enemies.” The girl’s smile faded from her face at this. Befriend his enemies? What on earth did he mean by that? Confusion shone clearly on the girl’s features, and sighing, Naraku figured he’d have to explain more then he had originally intended on.

“The one named Kagome, I need to know the extent of her miko abilities, and everyone else for that fact. And I cannot get close enough myself to obtain this information, which is why I require your cooperation.

“Go to them and ask if they are the ones seeking revenge on the hanyou known as Naraku, tell them you need help in avenging your village. Undoubtedly, they will ask you what village, and merely tell them of your old home,” he said slyly. “Tell them that I was the one to destroy your village and kill your family. I care not of their plans or intentions, all I need to know about is their powers, and how far they range in strength. Is this understood?”

“Yes, Naraku-sama. When do I leave?”

“Right away.” Mayuko bowed once more and headed out the door and to her own room, preparing herself with her weapons and everything needed for the long journey that lie ahead of her. She was sure she would have to wait for some time before the shard collector’s true colors shone.

She had no worries about earning their trust, she was a wonderful liar and had her ways when it came to acting helpless and distressed. She could easily pull this off. She just needed to plaster a look of sadness, anger, and loss onto her lovely face, and she would get the sympathy she didn’t truly need, but was crucial for this mission.

She had never been trusted with this kind of thing before, sure she had gone off and had killed many traitors amidst Naraku’s minions, and she knew for a fact that she was more trusted then others, but sometimes she wondered, could she ver be more then just a minion? Not to Naraku, and she was fine working for him, she had no regrets, but she wanted friends, she needed to have others around every now and then. Who didn’t?

She instantly ceased her thoughts and walked out of her room, saying a quick good bye to one of the guards to let him know she was leaving before setting off for the shard collectors.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After hours of endless searching and nothing to show for it, the three humans had managed to allow them a break, which was the mere reason the were sitting around a boiling pot at that very moment.

Kagome and Sango joked as they prepared lunch, although it was way past noon. Inuyasha sat perched in a tree, as usual, many thoughts plaguing his mind. He found most of his thoughts concentrated on Kagome, every now and then flashing to Kikyo.

Kagome was always cheerful, and always by his side, no matter what stupid fit he decided to throw, she never left him. She’d kept the promis she’d made to him, and has always stayed by his side. But he couldn’t help feeling a bit guilty, she’d been loyal to him and all he’d do to show his gratitude was run off to have his fun with Kikyo, leaving Kagome to fend for herself while he was with the undead miko.

He knew this hurt her, and had done all in his power to help ease the pain while at the same time, try not to fall in love with her, but it didn’t seem like fate was on his side, as he found her on his mind more and more as of late.

He couldn’t fathom the idea of being in love, and didn’t except that to be the answer, but he couldn’t help but thing he were falling for her, and if he fell, he knew he would fall hard, and could only hope Kagome felt the same, or was close at least. He knew she loved him, but hoe deep did that love run?

An approaching youkai shook him from his thoughts, which were pushed to the back of his mind as he smelled it nearing their group at a fast rate. Jumping from his perch, he transformed Tetsusaiga and snarled, standing readily for the oncoming assault.

The others watched his display and quickly took their positions as well, Shippo scurrying behind Kagome as she drew her bow. Kirara transformed and stood next to Sango was had her hand attached to the handle of her Hiraikotsu. Miroku stood next to her, holding his staff in his hands tightly, anticipating the approaching youkai’s entrance.

Inuyasha sniffed, dumbfounded as he saw a young youkai girl emerge into the clearing, tears welled up in her swollen eyes. Everyone lowered their weapons in confusion, why would Inuyasha take battle stance if he was not sure of an attack?

Kagome dropped her bow, being the caring person she was, and carefully approached the girl. She held out her hand, her face contorted with sympathy for the young youkai. She looked to be around 2 years older then Kagome, but she was still young in youkai age.

The girl looked around the group, inwardly smirking at their reaction to her, especially the one that seemed to be trying to comfort her. This was all too easy, just as she had thought it would be. She thought quickly of what to do, and threw herself at the young human, sobbing into her arms.

Need less to say, Kagome was shocked when the girl threw herself at her, and was at first unsure of how to respond and simply chose to run her hands soothingly along her back, trying to bring her as much comfort as she could offer.

It seemed to help, the girl pulled away, sniffling as she rubbed her swollen eyes, and looked sadly into Kagome’s sapphire depths. Kagome’s gaze widened as she got a chance to fully look at the girl, she was beautiful.

Her hair was cut into a short bob, black and streaked a crimson red. He silver eyes were outlined red. Black wings could be seen behind her back, streaked red just as her hair. Her silver and blue/whitish silver streaked tail peaked out from her side. The shiney leather clothing she wore signified her as a skilled worrier. Her katals hung from her waist, and her bow was placed on her back along with a quiver of arrows. Something red adorned her chest, blinking a few times, Kagome noticed it as a heart. Black, thorny vines weaved around it, and Kagome knew it was something special.

“Are you okay?” She asked the beautiful demonsess in front of her. The girl merely swallowed hard and looked Kagome straight in the eye before replying.

“I am Mayuko. I have come in search of your group after many years of harsh training. I will avenge my village, I will kill the one name Naraku.” Her words were laced with agony and a promise to fulfill her quest. The others were taken aback by the harshness of her tone, but when it cam to Naraku, well, no one could be blamed for being too harsh.

“I’m Kagome.” The miko smiled at Mayuko and introduced her to the others as well. Miroku, being the hentaii that he is, grasped her hands gently in his own before getting out the words, “Will, you—“ and he was unconscious. His strange behavior caused Mayuko to frown slightly, before her face took on an air of indifference.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Naraku smirked at the group’s stupidity. Taking one in so quickly without much consideration for what village she came from, who she trained with, or any other things. Of course the information didn’t seem vital, as Naraku and Mayuko herself were the only to know of his devious plan.

He let out a chuckle, yes, this would definitely be fun. The following weeks promised him excitement. He watched the hanyou in the mirror as he grumbled and walked off somewhere, and as Kagome fed Mayuko some of her ‘ramen’ whatever that was. He scoffed, the damn secrets of the group members’ powers would finally be his to gain access to. They were all so vain.

He thought about Kagome once again, how would he test her strength? First of all, she would need to be alone, not the hardest thing, but it would take some time to arrange. Secondly, he needed to have someone, or rather something attack her, something powerful, but something that she can beat with her hidden inner strength.

He had no idea, but it could wait for now. For now, all he needed to do was sit back and pray that Mayuko not fail him. He doubted she would, but even in deep trust, there was always something dark keeping you from full confidence. He was beginning to wonder if he had done the right thing……

Naraku growled. Of COARSE he was right in his decision, he was ALWAYS right, so there was nothing different about now. Kanna stared at him through her emotionless gaze, her eyes never leaving his. He waved her off finally, watching her retreat out the door to leave him with his peace.

Sighing, he closed his eyes, retreating into the depths of his mind as he fell quickly asleep.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kagome set up the blankets for everyone, setting hers up for their newest member and deciding that tonight, she would share a sleeping bad with Sango. She had an extra blanket to lie, but it wasn’t warm at all. So all they would need to do was lie it down and open the sleeping bad to cover with.

Inuyasha slept in the tree, and Miroku in his own sleeping bag as close as he could get to this new ‘Mayuko.’ She was incredibly attractive, and he couldn’t help but forget about his lovely Sango when she walked by him.

She’d caught a few of his lecherous grins and gave him a cold look before resuming with her previous activities. Miroku, getting the same reaction from nearly all women, didn’t seem phased in the least bit and thought nothing of it.

Everyone was fast asleep around the dying fire. The pale glow of the dying embers setting an ethereal glow upon the occupants of the small clearing. They all snored soundly, tomorrow promising to be full of adventures for each and every one one them.

DONE! Well, with this chapter at least. So what did you guys think? I hope it was okay. And once again to make things clear, Mayuko is the property of ‘sweet raptured light’ Thanks for allowing me the honor of putting your character in my story! More of her past will come into play in the next few chapters.

Don’t worry folks, as I said before, things will progress slowly, you cannot rush a Nar/Kag fic so the feelings that Inu has for Kagome will grow as her own feelings for him dissipate. This is a Nar/Kag so have NO frets. Well, how did I do? Was this chapter any good? Let me know….please?
