InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ It Wasn't Supposed To Be Like This ❯ Naraku's Scheme in Action ( Chapter 5 )
[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
Another chapter, well, sorry it took so long for this one, but I spent a long time on the last one and I took a break, well, more like I went to a convention!!! I got autographs and pictures with the cast of ‘Jeepers Creepers’, ‘Night of the Living Dead’, ‘Dawn of the Dead’ and ‘Evil Dead.’ It was awesome!!! Well, no excuses, but also another reason, was that someone actually had the nerve to steal my fanfiction ‘Your Love Belongs to Me’ and it was not pleasant.
Well, onto the next chapter, review responses at the bottom.
Thank you to sweet raptured light for being a wonderful beta reader!! She helps me a lot!! Hahaha, if it weren’t for her, you all would be reading a bunch of nonsense that makes no sence!! Lol, so thank you sweet raptured light!!!
Disclaimer: Leave me the hell alone and see the last chapter.
Chapter 4: Naraku’s Scheme In Action
Inuyasha sat high up in the branches of the sakura tree above the campsite they’d chosen for the night. He closed his eyes, putting his hands behind his head and reclining into the tree. He sniffed in the night air, his eyes widening when he recognized the scent of the women who’d been plaguing his thoughts lately.
He sat up, looking down upon the camp of his companions, jumping down from his tree and landing next to Kagome. She smiled up at him, and asked him what he wanted.
“I’m taking a walk.” He said before narrowing his eyes at her and racing off into the forest.
“Well that was certainly weird.” Kagome said before turning back to the others. Her, Sango, Miroku, and Shippo were all getting to know the new girl as good as they could, but she didn’t talk much, and when she did she’d be trying to change the subject, like she didn’t want them to know anything about her. What they didn’t know, was that she really didn’t.
“Sango-chan, I want to go for a walk. How about you?” She asked her friend. Sango sighed and shook her head, giving her friend an apologetic look before glancing at Miroku. Kagome completely understood. Lately, he’d been acting as if he wasn’t interested in Sango like he used to be, and everyday more of his attention was drawn from the demon slayer and focused more onto the newest member of their group.
“I’ll go on a walk with you Kagome-,” Mayuko hesistated a moment before finishing, “chan.” Kagome’s face instantly lit up as she grabbed Mayuko’s hand and dragged her away.
“You two be good now, and Miroku, no heavy flirting.” The monk smirked and winked towards the two girls, making Kagome scowl at him before turning away and running to catch up with the retreating girl.
“Why did you want to go on a walk with me?” Kagome asked. Mayuko shrugged her shoulders. She couldn’t tell Kagome that she was setting her up, could she? She smirked at the mental image of Kagome’s pained face, then quickly erased it when she saw Kagome staring at her in confusion.
“What are you thinking of Mayuko-chan?” Kagome asked. Mayuko walked further ahead, staring at the clearing she’d just entered. She turned back to look at Kagome, smiling sadly at her before answering.
“Well, the mental image of my dead family came to mind, then Naraku. All I was thinking of was the death I would bring upon him when we meet.” She said as if her statement were perfectly innocent. Kagome smirked.
“You sound just like Inuyasha, talking about how you’ll kill him. He goes into way much more detail though.” Kagome shuddered, remembering Inuyasha’s last threat to the evil hanyou, then ended her thoughts briefly.
Mayuko chuckled lightly, her sounding like that filthy hanyou? That was simply observed. If anything, he sounded half as threatening as her mental thoughts as far as she was concerned, but Kagome couldn’t know how sadistic she was, not yet at least. That was when she smelt Kagura, she quickly turned to Kagome with a look of fake panic.
“I smell youkai, stay here, I will be back once they are slain.” Mayuko said, running off towards the east as Kagura approached from the west. She found herself a suitable tree and masked her scent, watching the scene and waited for the moment she was to ‘save’ the priestess from an ‘enemy’ that wasn’t even going to kill her. She chuckled, this whole plan will be all too easy.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kagome watched her flee into the distance, then heard someone approaching overhead. Kagome jumped back, her eyes widening as she reached to her back only to grasp nothing. ‘Damnit, I didn’t bring my bow’ she though, biting her lower lip to maintain a calm exterior.
“Well, well, if it isn’t the miko, and all alone at that.” Kagura smirked evilly, letting the girl know that she had no intentions of leaving her go without a few cuts and bruises first. “Where’s your protector, huh?” She smirked when Kagome shrugged her shoulders shakily.
“I knew I smelt that dead bitch around here,” Her smirk broadened when Kagome’s eyes glazed over with tears. “Is that where he is? Socializing with her while you’re in the middle of danger?” Kagome’s shoulders slumped as she tried desperately to keep the tears from falling.
“So is it she he cares for more then you?” And with that, the tears fell, glistening streaks down her cheeks. Kagome’s eyes snapped to Kagura’s, daring her to say anything else. She was shocked to see that Kagura’s eyes were widened slightly, then felt her own power flowing through her veins. She lifted her arm to see her giving off a slightly pink aura, although it was nothing compared to when she was on the verge of death, it was still there nonetheless.
Kagura narrowed her eyes at the miko, raising her fan and swiping it in mid are. “Dance of Blades!” she yelled out, sending her wind crashing down upon the young girl. Kagome tried to run, jumping to dodge the blades before they could come in contact with her skin.
She rolled out of the way, narrowly missing one as it ripped her shirt. She stood up and raced for the trees that would led her out of the clearing, only to blanch as Kagura’s wind blades knocked some over, blocking her path and exit way.
Kagome turned to face the wind witch, watching as she smirked her amusement. Kagome grew angry, she was not about to let some incarnation of her enemy push her around and get away with it, no way! Kagome placed her hands on her hips, staring daggers at the wind witch who’s smile only got bigger the more defying she tried to look.
Kagome’s anger flared as she saw the amusement in Kagura’s eyes grow ten-fold. She blinked, trying to push down some of her anger, after all, she remembered what happened the last time she lost control and she didn’t want to lose it again, even if it had a chance of killing Kagura.
Once she reopened her eyes, she barely had enough time to jump away from the oncoming blade of wind. She thought about what she’d learned and closed her eyes tightly, trying to focus on her inner self. Once she found her inner surge of power, she raised her hand, and released it.
Kagura slammed into the ground as a wave of purifying energy, stunning her for a moment. She got to her feet, instantly bringing a hand to her stomach, breathing deeply to catch her breath. She glared at the miko where she stood, her hand outstretched and eyes widened.
‘She must not have expected herself to have that much power.’ Kagura thought. ‘O well, I need to leave before I get myself hurt. Where is she?’ she thought. Just then, Mayuko sprung into the clearing, winking at her before charging at her for an attack.
Kagura mentally sighed, thanking Kami for Mayuko’s ever so perfect timing. She pulled out a feather and transformed it just as Mayuko closed in on her. The demoness feigned an attack just as Kagura took off. Then, ran to Kagome in false concern.
“Are you okay?” She asked. Kagome just nodded dumbly as she stared at her hand, still not believing what she had just done. Mayuko rolled her eyes when she wasn’t looking before taking her hand and dragging her back to camp.
Inuyasha met them half way, running and grabbing Kagome from Mayuko.
“Are you alright? I just got back and I smelled Kagura in that direction,” he pointed towards the west, “And then Miroku told me that west is the direction you headed. I was worried, so I came for you.” He said. She nodded at him, then her face contorted with wonder and confusion.
“Inuyasha, that power that saved us before, it came out of my hand. All I tried to do was focus, but all of a sudden I felt my powers rushing and I needed to release the, so I held out my hand, and it just left me.” Inuyasha’s eyes widened, she had control over her powers? Somewhat at least, no matter how well that control was, she was still able to access her powers without seeking help or losing control. Could she truly be becoming stronger?
Inuyasha shook his head before looking at Kagome again. Her face looked a bit sadder then before as she stared into his eyes.
“Where were you that you couldn’t save me from almost getting killed Inuyasha? And I want the truth” Inuyasha’s ears drooped as his eyes averted to the ground and he hung his head. Kagome nodded and walked around him, heading back to camp.
“I understand Inuyasha.” She yelled over her shoulder. “If you were with her, I won’t press you anymore.” Then she broke into a run, racing back to the comforting arms of Sango.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“You know,” Mayuko began, “You really should get your mind set straight. Either you want the corpse you love, or you want the girl who will only remind you of the old love that you cannot have because you chosen a living person over her.” Mayuko smirked, Kagome didn’t belong here anyways, so what was the harm in hurting her, just a little.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Naraku growled as he watched the scene play put before him. The miko had shown amazing power today, managing to even wound his best incarnation, besides Makoto of course, she would always be the best, but she didn’t count anymore, not since she managed to escape him.
‘I will get you back Makoto, just wait. As for Kagome, it would not be well for her to be in the hands of Inuyasha, she could be a threat to me, and I will not, no matter how small that threat is, have her making me worry.’ His decision made, he walked outside to await Kagura’s return.
Surely enough, the wind witch passed through his barrier the second he opened the door and landed in front of him, placing her feather in her hair and stumbling over to where Naraku stood. Naraku smirked at her before grabbing her arm roughly and dragging her into his castle, and throwing her onto a tatami.
“Someone clean her up. I will not have the smell of her blood tainting the air.” Naraku growled at one of his servants and quickly walked down the hall to his own chambers, contemplating his plan of action.
Her power would be an amazing asset to him and with it, he could full fill his dreams sooner then he ever thought possible. He chuckled menacingly at the thought, all he had to do was come up with a plan, how to get her here, and how to make her go along with this.
He entered his personal chambers, walking over to sit on the tatami in the middle of the room, his thoughts focused on Kagome, and her characteristics. Surly by learning more about her own nature he could learn more about the way she though. And by learning that he could most likely find the most valuable thing to her. Then, he would threaten what ever it was that was so important to her, and she’d easily give her life to spare theirs.
Naraku growled, why in the hell hadn’t he been smart enough to figure this out already? The damn miko was in love with the hanyou, and her pup would be enough to set her off as well. But which would be easier to use.
He thought of this for a moment. He could either lay a huge wave of guilt across Inuaysah and have her give herself up for him, or he could get this done as soon as possible and take the kit. Naraku sighed, he didn’t have any time to waste. He would take the kit and bring him here, simple enough, then he would send s message to Kagome, stating that if anyone else finds out what he tells her the kit would die. And all he would tell her is that if she wishes the kit’s safe return, she would exchange her life for his, and she would keep her mouth shut and come running, alone.
He chuckled again before lying back and letting the darkness of sleep claim him, thoughts of his dreams coming true plaguing his dreams, which to others, would be considered nightmares.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The group of shard collectors were all spread out under the stars in a vast clearing just outside the western lands. Even Inuyasha slept serenely on the ground that night. Somehow, in the way they’d fallen asleep, Miroku’s arm was thrown carelessly across Mayuko’s stomach as she lay on her back, hands behind her head. Sango and Kagome slept next to each other, Shippo and Kirara snuggled up to the appropriate person.
The fire had died long ago, but the still heated embers was enough warm for the group to sleep peacefully without needing blankets. Mayuko sighed as Miroku pulled her closer, and rolling to her side, she cuddled up to Miroku’s warmth. His lecherous grin still present in his sleep, giving you minor ideas as to what was going on inside his head.
Each one had their own dreams, some of the happiness to come, and some of the nightmares that lie ahead of them. Deep down, all of them knew that the hunt for the jewel shards was soon to come to an end. With each day that passed by they got closer to the completion of their goal.
Each had their own reasons to fear the end, however. Kagome didn’t know what to do. First of all, was she going to be welcomed here when the quest was over, or would Inuyasha let Kikyo back in his heart. And who’s to say he would go to hell with the dead miko?
Sango, she couldn’t love with herself if she was made to fight against her brother, what if the inevitable happened while doing so? Lately, she couldn’t stand the thought of Miroku leaving her, and whenever she saw him with Mayuko, she couldn’t help but think that things would turn out completely unexpected.
Miroku wanted the battle to come as quickly as possible. He would never tell a soul, but the wind tunnel had been spreading lately, just a small bit bigger, but still, what happens when it gets too big? When he can’t control the void inside of his hand. Will he have to face the death of himself and grief of killing his friends? Or would he survive his life long quest and beat Naraku at his own game?
Inuyasha had thoughts of two mikos running about his mind. In the end, would Kagome even want to stay? Would he even want to stay? He had two choices, but which would he choose? Would he choose the remnants of a dead love and be with Kikyo? Or even go to the depths of hell to be with Kikyo for all eternity? Or would he choose to live a life of happiness with Kagome, forgetting Kikyo altogether?
Only fate could decide those answers.
The sun crept up over the horizon, filling the clearing with its morning rays. Kagome moaned as the sun hit her face, rolling onto her side and rubbing her eyes lightly before opening them and sitting up. She looked around her to see Inuyasha, sitting awake staring into oblivion. Beside her, Sango moaned tiredly, and blinking, the tired exterminator sat up as well.
Sango turned to her left, gasping and bringing a hand to cover her mouth as Miroku and Mayuko came into view. There they were, right in front of her eyes, wrapped in each other’s embrace. ‘This is why he hasn’t been talking to me much lately, and why he hasn’t tried to touch me in the past few days since she came into the group.’ Tears pricked her eyes as she tore her gaze from them.
She knew form the moment she started to have feelings for him that she should just let it pass, but instead, she dwelled on them, and became accustomed to being with him, to liking him. She even grew accustomed to loving him. The realization, having dawned on her, hit her like a ton of bricks. The tears flowed down her cheeks, leaving salty trails in their wake. She turned to face Kagome, who looked saddened as well, she quickly pulled Sango into a comforting embrace, running her hands along her back as she sobbed into her neck.
Miroku sat up and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, staring softly at the girl lying down with her arm wrapped around him. ‘I could wake up to this every morning,’ he though. ‘Just forget the clothes.’ Then he heard light whimpers coming from the area to his right, and turned to see Sango crying with a death grip on Kagome who was currently glaring at him.
Then, he realized his mistake. “Sango,” he whispered, watching as she slowly turned to face him. “I—I’m sorry.” He said, she shook her head, her eyes tightly closed together as more tears leaked from them. Mayuko stirred next to him and finally sat up, confirming exactly what she thought was happening. On the outside, she looked confused, but inside, she knew exactly what was going on, and was pleased to know, that she had found another weakness.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, lightly tugging on Miroku’s sleeve. He smiled down at her softly, mouthing the words later as she nodded her head. Sango quickly stood up and walked to the edge of the clearing, and into the woods, saying nothing to know one as she left.
Miroku was about to make a move to follow her when Kagome held up her hand, claiming that Sango needed to be alone for the moment. Miroku sighed and hesantly complied with Kagome’s demand for Sango’s privacy. He felt so bad, even if he didn’t mean to wake up with Mayuko, he couldn’t help but think of how right it felt to be with her like that.
Mayuko mentally smirked, things were going better then she had hoped. Miroku was after her, she’d upset Sango in the worst possible way, and Inuyasha and Kagome were probably against her as well. Hell, she couldn’t have done better if Naraku himself had given her orders of what she was to do. But somewhere, deep inside, it didn’t feel like she was using the monk, it felt like his charms had gotten to her just as her own had gotten to him.
The thought wasn’t as revolting as one would think, but she couldn’t and wouldn’t ever even think about getting attached to the guy, after all, Naraku was killing him, slowly, but he was killing him through the void in his hand. Somehow, when her thoughts drifted to the evil hanyou, she felt as if she’d been betrayed.
She smirked, ‘Naraku, betray me?’ the thought was ironic, she’d know him her whole life after she’d turned 4, even lived with him. He taught her everything she knew, sh why the hell should she feel betrayed? She pushed then feeling into the deepest recesses of her mind, hoping not to pull them back out later.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Naraku watched as Sango ran off, and made a mental note to reward Mayuko on that one. She certainly was the best possible answer to his problem, which now, would soon be solved. He would have what he wanted, and he would have a miko to help him acquire it.
‘Today,’ he decided. ‘I will have the kit in my dungeon today.’ With that last thought, the baboon pelt appeared on his skin and he walked out of his castle and to the east, they would meet directly up with him since they were headed west anyways.
He put on a concealing spell and walked into the forest, ever intent on making his plans come to life before the next week is up.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They’d been traveling for over two hours, and not once had they come upon a jewel shard, or anything threatening so far, but the farther west they walked, the creepier things got. Kagome folded her arms, over her chest as an involuntary shiver ran down her spine.
Kagome inched closer to Sango as she walked, and linked their arms together. Sango looked to Kagome, smiling at her before averting her eyes back to the path in front of her. Kagome sighed, she felt really bad for Sango. After about 30 minutes of explaining the situation to Mayuko, she’d gone after Sango and found her at a spring.
Flashback
“Sango?” Kagome asked as she spotted the girl lying by the edge of the spring, her hand thrown over the side, drawing lazy circles in the water. The older girl acknowledged her with a sigh before turning to face her fully.
“Kagome, I love him, I love Miroku.” Kagome gasped. Never in a million years would she expect this to come out of Sango’s mouth. She knew it was true, but she’d never thought that Sango would actually tell her. Kagome sat down beside Sango and rested her hand on her shoulder.
“Tell him, Sango, you’ll never forgive yourself if you don’t.” Sango shook her head, she could see it in the way Miroku looked at the young demoness that he had already fallen for her, whether it was love he held for the girl or not, Sango decided that she would not interfere.
Kagome seemed to understand Sango’s reasoning and stood up slowly, holding a hand out to the older girl, who took it and followed Kagome back to the others who had already began to get ready.
Inuyasha had been glaring at Miroku the whole time they’d been gone, and still was when the girls got back. Miroku tried to approach the hanyou, but when Inuyasha’s expression got even worse and became accompanied by a growl, Miroku just jumped back and finished what he was doing.
End Flashback
Kagome glanced back at Miroku and Mayuko who were walking side by side. Everyone had been in an awkward silence since they left camp. Even Shippo, who was perched on Inuyasha’s shoulder, refused to speak, and Kirara hadn’t mewed once as she walked alongside Sango.
Kagome knew how it felt to have the one you love go after another girl, but she didn’t know what it would feel like if she had the rest of Sango’s wounds as well. After all, her brother was never stolen and used against her the way Kohaku was, and she still had a family to turn to, whereas Sango didn’t.
“Miroku is such a fool,” Kagome mumbled low under her breath so that no one could hear her. However, Inuyasha did and he stopped to wait for the two girls to catch up to him before walking any further.
“I know he is, but that doesn’t change the fact that we are all in this together. The fight against Naraku, for our lives. We may not be able to do it without him, and the outcome of this battle will determine each of our futures. As much as I hate to admit it, this Mayuko girl has an extremely powerful aura, and she is a valuable ally as well.” Inuyasha whispered into Kagome’s ear.
“You know, you sounded nothing like your normal self, Inuyasha. Is there something wrong?” She asked, teasing. Inuyasha glared at her before walking ahead to take lead again.
Kagome looked up to Sango, seeing the faraway look in the girl’s eyes. Okay, even if Inuyasha was right, it still hurt to see Sango like this, and no matter what, she would help the older girl get through this, at any cost possible.
“I didn’t expect to run into you all today, but what a pleasant surprise it is none the less.” Inuyasha growled as the others quickly took their fighting stances. Kagome readied her bow and walked forward to stand next to Inauyasha. Sango, who normally would have stood next to Miroku, turned to see him back to back with a smirking Mayuko. Sango shivered, that girl looked dangerous.
Having no where else to go, Sango stood alone, Hiraikotsu in hand, scanning the area for Naraku’s jaki.
Inuyasha growled, transforming Tetsusaiga and stepping in front of Kagome. He quickly set Shippo down and pushed him towards Kirara. The fire cat transformed and picked him up, setting him in a tree before coming back to stand at her mistress’s side.
“Show yourself, ya coward!” Inuyasha yelled, trying to catch Naraku’s scent. Kagome too, was getting irritated, she couldn’t sense the jewel shards anywhere. Inuyasha barely had enough time to scoop up Kagome and Sango before a large tentacle shot out from seemingly no where.
He set the two girls down and stood in front of them both. ‘If Miroku’s not going to protect Sango, it’s up to me to.’ He thought, standing a little straighter with the added responsibility.
Naraku appeared before them, smirking maliciously as his eyes settled upon Kagome. Inuyasha noticed this and growled, stepping in front of the young miko. Naraku’s smirk only grew bigger as his crimson eyes glowed with the need for bloodshed. He raised his hand, tentacles shooting from it and towards where Inuyasha was standing.
“Sankontessou!” Inuyasha yelled, slicing it before it could reach them. Naraku chuckled, sending another few tentacles after them, and one going in another direction, unnoticed by the group of shard hunters as the ‘Kaze no Kizu’ was sent hurling towards the evil hanyou.
He made sure to let Kagome see Shippo being carried away by him before he vanished into nothingness.
“Shippo!” Kagome screamed, tears already flowing heavily down her cheeks. “SHIPPO!” Her voice was laced with agony and sadness as she ran towards the general direction of west. She felt someone grab her arm, but struggled against it, running faster, tears blurring her vision.
Inuaysha grabbed her around her waist, paying no heed to her violent kicking and struggling as she tried to break free of him. She slammed her head back into his chest, and used her feet to kick backwards into his shins. She heard him hiss in pain for a moment, but she didn’t care. Shippo was gone.
After a few more minutes, she ceased struggling altogether and brought her hands up to cover her face as her sobs became worse. Inuyasha slackened his grip and let go of her. She turned to see Sango, the older girl had tears in her own eyes as well, but she was too strong to act like Kagome. After all that she’d been through it was no surprise.
Kagome threw herself at her sisterly figure, choked sobs erupting from her throat. Sango sank to the ground, wrapping her arms around Kagome as she tried to console her.
“We will get Shippo back.” Kagome could hear the promise in Sango’s voice as she spoke, and was comforted by it. “But we will need to know why Naraku wants him, and where he is before we can take action Kagome. You must understand this.” Kagome nodded as her sobs were replaced with sniffling. How could she act like this when Shippo was in danger? She should be thinking of how to get him back, not mourning.
That decided, she stood, wiping her tears as she did so, and sent a look of pure determination at Inuyasha.
“We WILL get him back Inuyasha, at the cost of my life it comes to it.” Ant they all knew, that when she said that, she was not joking. Even Mayuko found herself momentarily amazed by her boldness and selflessness, but after a seconds thought, set it aside as stupidity.
The girl obviously needed some serious help.
