Chapter Six:
Jewel Shard’s Bail Bonds was deathly quiet as Kagome let out a sigh. “Why do I have to be here all alone on a Sunday?” she asked the empty room, but there was no answer. Sango, Miroku and Inuyasha were on a bounty hunt today. Leaving Kagome alone to ‘mind the phones’, as Inuyasha had put it, before they headed out the door. Kagome had been working for Jewel Shard’s Bail Bonds for nearly three months now, and she was used to staying behind while the others went out to catch bail jumpers, but she just did not know why she had to be here on a Sunday no one ever came in on a Sunday afternoon. She picked up a pencil twirling it between her fingers. ‘I could call Kouga,’ she thought. They had been dating for close to two months now. She was happy enough with him, and he was not pressuring her into sex, which she appreciated. It was not that she did not want to lose her virginity to Kouga, but she just wanted the moment to be perfect and so far, there had not been that moment where she knew she was ready. They had gotten close a couple times since the night he asked her to be his girlfriend, but she had stopped him when it went too far. She was afraid Kouga’s patience would not last must longer.
Things with Inuyasha were different recently, because his ex-girlfriend was in rehab and Sango and Miroku said once she got out they probably would get back together. Kagome couldn’t help but feel a little sad. She had Kouga of course, but ever since that night Inuyasha spent the night her feelings for Inuyasha had shifted, and they were friends sort of, and he talked to her at the office but they hadn’t done anything together since that morning he went after Kikyo. Sango said it was because of Kikyo, that Inuyasha was keeping Kagome at a distance. She did not think so though, there was something there that night, she couldn’t deny the electricity she felt when he touched her.
She felt a lot of confusion when it came to Inuyasha, and he was dangerously confusing. First, he held her all night then the next day it is as if he has never seen her outside the office before. She sighed once more, ‘Men,’ she thought. Kagome looked down at her yellow backpack where her history book was sticking out the top, she had started an assignment an hour ago but gave up she could concentrate today. She would just have to work on it tonight when she got off work. She wished she could call Rin and get a second opinion on her homework but Rin had not spoken more than a few words to her since the incident with Sango.
She had tried desperately to get her to talk to her about it but she just told her it was not a big deal and would run out at the end of class. She had even stopped driving Kagome to work on Monday’s and Wednesday’s she said she had gotten a part time job that intervened with their normal routine. Kagome was almost positive it was because she had offended her.
The front door opened making a scrapping noise along the carpet and Kagome looked up from her desk.
“Welcome to Jewel Shard’s Bail Bonds,” She said cheerily.
A woman with long dark black hair and an impassive face stood in the doorway. She was wearing a white collared shirt and a floor length red skirt.
“I’m here to see Inuyasha,” she said coldly.
“I’m sorry ma’am he’s out right now but he should be backing shortly if you’d like to take a seat,” she motioned to the black leather couch near the door.
“Hmm,” the woman said, not moving from the doorway, “Are you my replacement?”
“Excuse me?” Kagome said bewildered.
“You are the receptionist here. Correct?” She looked at Kagome her dark eyes boring into her.
“Yes, who are you?” Kagome said feeling agitated, by the interrogation from a stranger.
“My name is Kikyo,” she said a small smile at the corner of her mouth when she saw Kagome’s expression of surprise “You’ve heard of me I presume?”
Kagome almost choked on her surprise this cold impassive woman was the one Inuyasha had mistaken her for. The one he said she could never compare too. Sure, she was beautiful but it was as if she was made of ice, and did she hear her right when she said she had, had Kagome’s job? Why had Sango never told her that?
“Don’t get comfortable here,” she said moving in closer to Kagome, pinning her with her icy gaze, “If I ever asked for my job back Inuyasha would give it to me in a heart beat and you would be out on the streets where you belong,” She said venomously.
Kagome balled her fists at her sides if this woman was looking for a fight Kagome was more than willing to give her one. As she was forming the words for a reply, the others burst in with excited voices. They went quiet when they saw Kagome and Kikyo staring at one another.
“Kikyo?” Inuyasha said in disbelief, “What are you doing here?”
“I need to talk to you Inuyasha,” she said turning to face him leaving Kagome staring angrily at her back.
“Lets go into my office then,” he said leading her into the office behind Kagome, Kikyo gave a smug glare to Kagome as she brushed by her and Kagome couldn’t help but glare back at her as she entered Inuyasha’s office.
Kagome, Sango and Miroku stood staring at each awkwardly until Kagome broke the silence.
“She used to have my job?” She said quietly.
“Kagome…” Sango pleaded desperately.
“Its okay,” she cut her off “It’s not a big deal, but do you think Inuyasha will give her, her job back? She told me Inuyasha would give her my job if she asked,”
“NO!” they both chorused.
“We wouldn’t let him,” Sango said.
“You’re the best receptionist this place has ever seen!” Miroku added.
“You guys are the best!” she said it was good to know they believed in her.
Kikyo chose that moment to burst out of the office.
“You’re making a HUGE mistake Inuyasha you’ll regret this!”
Inuyasha was standing in the doorway of his office arms crossed over his chest a shadow of a smile across his face. Kikyo stomped pasted the three of them her red skirts flying as she went out the door. All three of them turned to look at Inuyasha.
“So did you Tell Kagome about the party?” he said with a smile.
********************************************************
The wind blew through Inuyasha’s hair as he jumped from building to building, with Sango and Miroku fallowed behind him in Sango’s jeep. Gods, it felt so good to be out with the wind in his face again, he was beginning to think Tetsusaiga would rust away up in his closet. They were on the trail of a new lead for the hunt. They were headed to the outskirts of town, because something had been killing livestock in that area, and from the description, it sounded too powerful to be some regular mountain lion or pack of coyotes. This was a Youkai, but not a regular Youkai , this Youkai had a jewel shard.
All the minor demons that had made it to the modern era had them. There was no way for them to survive without it. That’s where Inuyasha came in, and he was hired to exterminate these vermin and take their shards, and he’d spent five hundred years collecting shards. It was nearly complete, and he only had one sixth of the jewel left to find and once he finished it. ‘I can’t think of that now,’ he thought pushing it away, his once clear-cut future had become muddled. After she died, he swore to reconstruct the jewel, and once he found her, again they would never have to be apart from then on.
Kikyo was disgusted by his half demon nature, and she wanted him to complete the jewel and turn into a human. When she had first asked him he was more than willing to oblige, because he was willing to do anything to make her happy. Then he had met Kagome nearly three months ago and she had thrown a wrench into everything he thought he knew. She confused him, because she looked and acted so much like the Miko he had lost all those centuries ago, but there was not that instant recognition he had when he had first met Kikyo of the modern age. It was like a slowly growing tide with Kagome, the more he heard her laugh, the more he listened to her talk, there more confused he grew. Then that night he spent with her in her arms, and it felt so right, so familiar. He felt himself drawn to her like a moth to flame, ‘but she could not be her, wasn’t Kikyo her?’ These thoughts could split his head apart, they had tormented his mind since the day Kikyo went the hospital. He remembered her cryptic words to him from her hospital bed.
“Inuyasha, I’m not yours, this soul never was, this soul belongs to darkness, and hatred, if you don’t get away now you’ll be pulled under to hell with me”
When he had visited her, in the hospital the next day, he asked her about her words and she had no recollection of the conversation. This confirmed his suspicion that she was delirious that night. She had nearly died and it was understandable. But still her words seemed to hold some truth, for Kikyo had been in rehab for the past month.
‘She gets out soon,’ he thought. He’d visited her a couple times, and she seemed to be getting better which was good, and if she had died he didn’t know what he would do. He never did find the bastard that sold her the drugs however. Sesshomaru had put his best men on the job but nothing came from it, it was as if the guy wasn’t alive, as if he was smoke, all he could get out of Kikyo was it was the guy she had been seeing but she wouldn’t give him the name. His blood boiled thinking about that bastard. He would rip him apart when he found him, there wouldn’t be anything left when he was done with him.
His attention was diverted suddenly he had caught the scent of the Youkai, and he jumped down off the building he was standing on. He was getting closer; it was at least a mile away through the hills. He signaled to Sango and Miroku to follow and heading off on the ground, leaping through the air. He was covering good ground, he was getting close now. Then he caught the smell of blood, animal blood, and he knew the bastard had killed some livestock. He burst through some light forest brush into a small field. A golden haired Youkai with the body of a large cat had its muzzle in the intestines of a dead cow. It lifted its cat like head sniffing the air. It’s golden eyes changed to slits as it caught sight of Inuyasha, and he could feel the shards aura from his distance a few hundred yards away.
“What do you want half breed,” it scoffed.
“I’m here for that Jewel Shard,” Inuyasha called unsheathing Tetsusaiga from its concealment along his belt, then resting it on his shoulder.
“I’d like to see you try,” the Mountain cat Youkai called standing to full height; the jewel had enlarged the animal to nearly ten feet tall. ‘Big cat,’ he thought.
“I tried to warn you,” Inuyasha called. As he ran forward preparing to swing at the Puma Youkai, his blade met the Youkai shoulder creating a deep gash making it cry out in pain.
“You’ll pay for that filthy half breed,” It snarled, as it ran forward taking a swing at Inuyasha abdomen, he jumped away easily; he was too fast for it. The Puma let out a frustrated growl, and then charged again; once again, Inuyasha dodged, and as it past him, Inuyasha turned to face the retreating Youkai and slashed it across the back. It turned to face him with a snarl.
“I’m done playing games,” Inuyasha said calmly, “WIND SCAR!” he bellowed bringing the Tetsusaiga to ground making four bursts of wind energy disintegrating the Youkai. Inuyasha walked over the pile of ash left behind and pulled out the jewel shard from the remains, Miroku and Sango ran up breathlessly as he did so.
“Damn, Inuyasha. Couldn’t you of waited?” Sango heaved.
“That wasn’t even a challenge I didn’t need to wait,” he said smugly.
“Why bring us at all then?” Miroku said hands on knees try to catch his breath.
“Because it amuses me,” Inuyasha said walking back in the direction of Sango’s Jeep. They looked at each other with a puzzled expression then followed after him.
Inuyasha rode in the back seat of Sango’s Jeep his feet propped up on the center console his eyes closed. He felt satiated to have killed a Youkai, ‘its been too long’ he thought as he let Sango and Miroku’s conversation wash over him.
“We should do something for Halloween,” Sango said merrily from the driver’s seat, it was only three weeks from Halloween.
“How about a haunted house with secret corners for lovers,” Miroku said, Inuyasha didn’t have to look he knew his eyebrows were raised.
“A how about no,” Sango said harshly.
“Come one Sango, you can’t resist me, admit it,” he said suavely.
“I can and I will continue too,” she said definitely.
“Come on Sango just once?” he begged.
“No,” she said flatly.
“Pretty please,” he pleaded.
“Absolutely not,” she replied firmly.
“I’m still here,” Inuyasha interrupted.
“Oh yeah sorry Inu, forgot you were back there,” Miroku chuckled.
“How about a party?” Sango suggested.
“For what?” Miroku said confused.
“For Halloween you idiot,” Inuyasha supplied, he did like that idea, Halloween was the only time of the year he could go around with out his concealment.
“That’s a good idea where would we have it?” Miroku pondered.
“Inuyasha’s place?” Sango suggested.
“NO.” Inuyasha grumbled, his house had gone through enough damage in the last couple of months he didn’t need a bunch of strangers come through tearing it up.
“How about Sango’s apartment?” Miroku suggested.
“I don’t have a lot of room,” Sango said sadly.
“Enough for two?” Miroku wiggled his eyebrows.
Sango replied with a slap across Miroku’s face.
“Miroku’s place is too small too, what about at Jewel Shard’s? We could make it a public thing pass out flyers to drum up new business?”
“That’s not a bad idea,” Inuyasha said sitting up straight.
“So we can?” Sango said eagerly.
“Yeah, I think we will,” Inuyasha replied.
“Great I can’t wait to tell Kagome!” Sango cheered.
They pulled into the parking lot of Jewel Shard’s Bail Bonds a few minutes later, and Miroku and Inuyasha’s cars were there and there was a car Inuyasha didn’t recognize. As he walked past it into the building he caught the scent of Kikyo, ‘why is Kikyo here?’ He thought as he listened to Miroku and Sango talk animatedly behind him about the party. He opened the front door to Kikyo and Kagome having a glaring match.
“Kikyo?” Inuyasha said incredulously, “What are you doing here?”
“I need to talk to you Inuyasha,” she said turning to face him, he noticed Kagome shooting daggers at her back with her eyes, ‘what did she say to her?’
“Let’s go into my office then,” he said leading her into the office behind Kagome’s desk.
As he led her in, he had a vivid memory of the last time they had spoken alone in his office; she was even wearing something similar to that day. He closed the door behind himself and sat in his leather chair. She took the seat across from him and regarded him with her dark eyes.
“I’m ready to take you back,” she said in a business like tone. ‘Do I want to get back together with her?’ for the first time in two years Inuyasha doubted his love of Kikyo, but he remembered her screams as he approached her in that crumbling apartment building. Her words that night in the hospital, ‘is she the one, if I choose her am I making the wrong choice,’ Kagome’s voice lifted to his ears from behind the door,
“…Do you think Inuyasha will give her, her job back…”’ she thinks I would fire her for Kikyo?’ Kikyo continued watching him patiently waiting for a reply he had none, he wasn’t sure anymore.
“I’m not ready to take you back,” he said quietly.
“What?” she said vehemently.
“I love you Kikyo, and I’ll always protect you but I can’t take you back, there’s too much confusion.”
She stood up abruptly, “Is this because of that girl out there that looks like me, you couldn’t have me so you started fucking some girl who looks like me?” she said angrily.
“Leave Kagome out of this,” he shouted.
“Does she know about your puppy ears? Does she think they’re cute, is she the one now Inuyasha? Is she the one who’s meant for you?” he words were dripping with disdain.
“Don’t you dare speak about her like that?” he said come face to face with Kikyo.
Her eyes narrowed, “This is about her,” she said barely above a whisper, she strode to the door and swung it open.
“You’re making a HUGE mistake Inuyasha you’ll regret this!” She shouted, but as she did, Inuyasha could feel a wave of relief passing over him, he had taken control. He didn’t know if Kikyo was the one anymore but by taking control, she couldn’t hurt him anymore.
He watched her exit from the doorway to his office a faint smile on his lips. His employees turned to face him with confused expressions.
“So did you Tell Kagome about the party?” he said merrily trying to distract them all from Kikyo‘s dramatic exit.
“What party?” Kagome said taking the bait.
“We are having a Halloween party here at the office,” Sango said carefully her gaze never leaving Inuyasha.
“Oh really who’s coming? Can I bring Kouga?” she said happily, Inuyasha felt a snarl grow and die in his throat he didn’t want that mangy wolf in his office, ‘it’s more than that, I don’t want him with his arms around Kagome, in my office where I can see them.’ He shook his head, ‘why do I care?’
“Sure,” Miroku replied, still watching Inuyasha, “What just happened with Kikyo?”
‘I guess I can’t avoid it forever,’ he thought.
“She asked me to take her back and I turned her down.”
Three identical slack jaws stared back at him as if he had just declared himself queen of England.
“You did?” Sango said.
“Yeah what about it?” he said grumpily.
“I thought she was the one,” Miroku said carefully, Inuyasha chanced a glance to Kagome, ‘I don’t know anymore.’
“I don’t want to talk about it anymore,” he said hotly walking back to his office and slamming the door. He listened to them through his door.
“So he’s not getting back together with Kikyo?” Kagome said reverently.
“I guess not” Sango replied.
“Something’s up,” Miroku added.
“She seemed like a bitch to me,” Kagome added, “good riddance.”
“I’ll second that,” Sango replied.
“You have a third from me,” Miroku said, and the three of them burst into laughter, he listened to Kagome’s musical laughter like tiny bells. ‘Are you her?’ He thought sadly, ‘or did I push her away?’
****************************************** ***************
Sango made a third attempt at turning the engine over on her jeep. It made a feeble nose like grinding gears then went silent.
“Damn it.” she breathed, slamming her fist into the dashboard. The parking lot to Jewel Shard’s Bail Bonds was nearly empty with the only vehicle left was Miroku’s black Cadillac. ‘Should I go ask him for help? He had better not think this is some kind of convoluted come on,’ she thought mirthlessly. She walked back towards the front door of Jewel Shard’s as she swung open the front door she ran directly into Miroku’s chest.
“Sango back so soon?” he said with a glint in his eye.
“Quit it Hioshi, I need a jump my jeep’s battery is dead,” she said sternly.
“Oh how unfortunate I’d be happy to give you a jump,” Sango turned back to the parking lot missing the triumphant grin on Miroku’s lips. She retrieved the jumper cables from the trunk of her jeep as Miroku pulled his car around to face the front of Sango’s jeep. Miroku popped his hood as Sango attached the cables to her battery then Miroku did the same to his battery. Each got into the driver seat of their respective vehicle. Miroku revved his engine trying to give Sango’s jeep some juice after several minutes Sango attempted to turn the engine over. It made the same grinding noise then went silent.
“It’s dead,” she announced.
Miroku turned off his engine and shut the hood of each vehicle.
“Well let me give you a ride home then,” he said smoothly.
“I guess I don’t have a choice. There isn’t anymore auto parts store’s open this late.” she said, the two of them had stayed late long after Inuyasha had left and Kagome was picked up by Kouga. It was nearly ten o clock by the time they had finished there paperwork.
Sango locked up her jeep she would have to come back with a new battery tomorrow. She climbed into the passenger seat of Miroku’s car and the sped off towards her apartment. Sango looked out the window watching the rode pass by until Miroku spoke.
“Sango why won’t you go out with me?” he implored.
The question took her completely of guard. She was used to his usual cocky attitude acting as it was only a matter of time before she gave into his charm. This was different even she didn’t know why she wouldn’t go out with him really. She’d been telling herself for the past three years it was because she didn’t trust him, that she was convinced he would cheat, but that wasn’t the truth even Kagome had said she thought it Miroku would be faithful.
The truth was she was afraid, afraid of losing again. She’d already lost so much in her life, with her parents, her brother. She didn’t know if she could love some one for the fear of losing someone she held dear, once again. What could she tell him? The standard answer you’re a pervert, I don’t trust you. ‘No, he deserves the truth.’ She committed.
“I’m afraid Miroku,” she averted her gaze she never used Miroku’s first name, she watched him out of the corner of her eye gawking with obvious surprise. It wasn’t the answer he was expecting that’s for sure.
“What are you afraid of?” he said soothingly.
The words she’d been holding back tumbled out now.
“I’m afraid of losing, I’m afraid of rejection, I’m afraid of falling in love with you, and most of all I’m afraid of my own happiness.” She could feel tears sting her eyes she’d never spoken this frankly with anyone not since her parents death. Miroku pulled the car over to the side of the road putting it in park. He turned to look at her,
“Sango I’m crazy about you, I have been from the moment we met. I would do anything to take your fears away, I want to take all your hurt and pain and take them upon myself. I want to fulfill you in everyway possible, Sango I love you.”
She moved across the bench seat before she knew what she was doing she took Miroku’s face in her hands at first he flinched expecting her to slap him then she brought his mouth to hers. She kissed him with an urgency and a longing she didn’t even realize she had. At first Miroku sat completely still, and if he wasn’t sure what to do with himself then gently his hands reached forth. Gently caressing Sango’s body reverently as if she was the most delicate creature in the world, and if he held her to tight, she would break. She rubbed her hands along his chest dragging her nails along it gently as if to say its okay, I’m not made of glass. He took her signal and grasped at her rear kneading it carefully. Sango paused for a moment and Miroku tensed up, then Sango moaned into his mouth.
“I need you Miroku,”
He continued caressing her rear with a new sense of urgency, she straddled his hips, and she could feel his erection pressing against his pants. She moved her hips forward so that his erection pressed her core sending sensations tingling through her body. She slowly ground against him, gradually increasing the speed. Miroku removed one hand from her butt to recline the seat so that he was laying down flat with Sango staying kneeled above him as she ground her pleasure into his throbbing erection. Miroku moved his hands up from her butt where he was guiding her movements to slowly undress her. She stopped placing a hand on his wrist he looked at her with surprise.
“Take me home,” she said huskily.
“Of course,” he said excitedly as Sango climbed off him, and into the passenger seat. She could barely keep her desire for him at bay; she reached a hand across rubbing his erection through his pants. Distracted by Sango’s teasing, Miroku ran a red light.
“Miroku if you’re not careful we’ll both die before I can have you in my bed,” she said seductively.
“Damn I am so glad I disabled your jeep,” he lamented then fear struck his face, Sango could feel desire instantly replaced with rage.
“YOU WHAT!” she shouted.
“I…I…Sango…” he stammered.
“You treacherous pervert you tricked me, this was all a trick to get into my pants I cant believe you would stoop this low!” she thundered.
“Sango it’s not like that believe me!” he pleaded.
“Let me out!” she shouted.
“Sango just let me explain,” he begged.
“NO! Let me out of this car I can’t stand the sight of you!”
He pulled over to the side of the road Sango flung the car door open running away from the vehicle.
“Sango please get in the car!” he begged driving along side her.
“Leave me alone! I have nothing left to say to you!”
“Sango please.”
“NO! I’ll see you at work goodbye.” she took off at full speed through a small park where he couldn’t follow. ‘That bastard tricking me like that! I’ll never let my guard down around him again. That just proves there’s no one I can trust.’ She fumed as she walked back towards the road Miroku was gone and she was only two blocks away from her apartment. She wiped away the tears that stung her eyes
“Damn him,” she mumbled to the night air.
********************************************************* *****
Rin woke with a start she had that dream again. She sat up clutching her chest trying to catch her breath. She had the same nightmare every night for the past two months. She would see Kohaku standing at the edge of the bridge and as she moved forward to grab him around the waist, he would fall towards the water. She would call out to him as he descended below the water. Then Sango would be standing behind her with a giant boomerang saying “you killed him!” then she would throw it at her and she would fall but before she hit the water, she would wake up.
She had loved Kohaku more than life itself, and she had hoped they would spend the rest of there lives together. Over the two years they were together, she had watched the darkness in his eyes slowly fade away. She remembered the first time they had made love, with sweet whispers in the dark his hands holding hers. He had been happy then, for a time he was only hers and they had their joy together. Then a couple months before he died the darkness had returned, and she tried to heal him to take it away but it was too late he was already broken. Two weeks before he killed himself, he had told her his plan.
They were laying on his bed in the apartment him and Sango shared, it was nearly dark out and only a single lamp illuminated his face.
“Rin you know I love you right?” he said quietly, Rin saw the darkness in his tone and in his eyes that she’d been trying to ignore.
“Of course and I love you,” she said soothingly.
“Rin I’m not going to be around much longer, I want you to promise me something,” he said it reverently, like a prayer.
“What do you mean? Are you breaking up with me where are you going? I’ll go with you!” she said urgently trying to fight the tears, she couldn’t admit the truth to herself.
“In a way I’m breaking up with you only because the place I’m going you can’t follow. Rin when I’m gone I want you to promise to be strong don’t cry for me, and tell Sango… Tell Sango it’s not her fault, I can’t tell her myself she wont understand.” Kohaku’s voice was so quiet it scared her. She wanted to reach out and hold on tight but even then she knew she couldn’t.
“I promise,” she whispered, tears trickled down her cheeks.
They made love one last time that night it was like saying goodbye she knew that night she would never see him again. He told her as she left not to come back that he would be gone. Two weeks later, he jumped off a bridge, Rin knew he had pushed her away to save her from the pain of being too close but it still hurt to lose him.
Tears pricked her eyes bringing her back from sad memories, a body shifted next to her and white silver hair on a perfect angular face turned to regard her.
“Rin you’re crying,” He said quietly.
“I had a bad dream,” she lied; she didn’t want him to see her cry like this.
“Rin you can’t lie to me,” he said soothingly, they’d only been together for two months but already he could read her like a book.
“Oh Sesshomaru,” she balled. As he sat up opening his arms to her, she flung her arms around his neck burying his face in his chest. “I’m a terrible person, I should of warned his family, I should of said something then he wouldn’t of died.” he lifted her chin to look him in the face.
“Rin, Kohaku’s death was his choice you can’t continue to blame yourself for it, he told you not to cry for him and yet you dishonor him with your tears.” His golden eyes searched hers with such warmth. She never would have expected the stern hard-edged professor she had met would turn into some one she could come to care for so much. It was a twist of fate they had met outside of school at all, the day she had seen Sango again she had ran from the restaurant blindly seeing Sango again had reopened all the old wounds she had thought were healed.
As she ran, she collided with Professor Takahashi.
“Professor Takahashi, I’m so sorry for running into you,” she could feel her face turn scarlet.
“It’s not a problem… Rin… Correct?” he said in his cold demeanor.
“Yes,” she sniffled.
“Why are you crying?” he said with concern, Rin had looked him in the face then. There was something in his eyes she’d never seen before, it was compassion.
“It’s complicated,” she said wiping her face.
“Try me,” he said opening up a whole new world to her.
He bought her a coffee and she spilled everything to him, Kohaku, Sango her promise. Then somewhere in the conversation, she had let it slip.
“You’re probably the most attractive teacher I’ve ever had,” she said casually.
“Is that so?” He said brow raised.
“Yeah,” she felt embarrassed something about him made her want to confess everything.
“I have to admit Rin I’m attracted to you as well.”
“Really?”
He didn’t respond he just drew her into his arms and he kissed her like she’d never been kissed before. It was like living in a dream he was the most gorgeous man she’d ever met and he was kissing her. He took her to his house after that and they made love, the next morning she went home thinking it was a fling. A once in a lifetime occurrence, and after class on Monday, she had run out at lightning speed. She knew Kagome probably thought she was ignoring her but she was afraid of being caught in an awkward situation with Professor Takahashi. That night he came to her apartment.
“Why did you run away after class Rin I wanted to see you,” He said eloquently, he looked too elegant to be in her tiny apartment.
“I didn’t know if you wanted to see me again,” she said shyly.
“Of course I wanted to see you Rin, I’m captivated by you now,” he took her in his arms once more and kissed her passionately, it was over for her after that there was no turning back it was nothing but Sesshomaru for her from then on.
Shortly after that he told her he was married to a woman who worked at the university. She used a different last name professionally and they’d been separated for a long time, but it still made her uneasy and she insisted they keep it a secret around the school. She didn’t want it getting out she was seeing a married professor. Last night he had revealed the biggest secret of all.
“Rin sit down,” he led her to his opulent couch sitting across from her. “I have something to tell you.”
“What is it do you have another wife?” she joked, what could be worse than that?
He laughed it was so rare an occurrence she soaked it in. “No, this is much more serious. I’m a Youkai,”
“You’re a… demon?” she said trying to remember her Japanese.
“Yes,” he said removing a gold chain he wore around his neck. As he pulled it away, his hair turned snow white, a navy blue crescent moon appeared on his brow, and two rows of pink stripes on each of his cheeks, and his ears had elongated into points. Rin stared at him in disbelief.
“You weren’t lying…”
“Are you afraid?” he said cautiously.
“Not at all, I’m honored that you trust me with such an important secret.”
“Rin you are my light, I trust you with everything,” he said taking her face in his hands, she knew then she was in love irreplaceably, unavoidably in love. She made love to him again and fell asleep in his arms until her nightmares had once more woken her.
Sesshomaru watched her patiently as she dried her eyes.
“I think you need to talk to his sister, just explain to her, what he told you,” He said calmly.
“You’re right but how do I do that?” she sniffled.
“What about that girl Kagome isn’t she friends with her?” he suggested.
“I haven’t really spoken to Kagome in almost two months she probably thinks I’m mad at her,” she said dejectedly.
“I’m sure if you explain your side of the story she will understand,” he said logically.
“You’re right,” she said softly.
“Come here,” he said pulling her face to his taking her lips in a chaste kiss as they laid back down on the bed, she was wrapped up in his arms listening to his steady heart beat as she drifted off to sleep.
A/n: Another beautiful edit brought to you by the amazing inubaka thanks for reading!
