Chapter Two: Kagome
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been three days since the battle with Naraku. InuYasha hadn't said a word to anyone. Everyone was worried about their Hanyou friend. They had brought back Kikyou's Miko robes and placed them on the small shrine that served as her grave. A small service was held, and Miroku preformed Kikyou's rites. Surprising everyone, InuYasha attended and then left shortly after. They also had a small service in Kohaku's name. Sango assured everyone, that she wanted Kohaku buried in this village. In all truth, she hadn't thought of the Slayer Village of her home in a long time.
Miroku and Kaede were having discussions about the Jewel. When Kikyou gave Kagome's life back to her and placed the Shikon Jewel in her palm, it disappeared after. They had agreed on two possible answers. One: The Shikon no Tama was purified, when Kikyou gave back Kagome's soul. Two: The Shikon no Tama fused with Kagome's body. They were leaning against idea number Two. Kagome was giving off a more powerful aura. It could have been because of Kikyou, but it really didn't make sense. Kikyou didn't even give off that much power even when she was alive. Kagome had grown considerably in spiritual power before the battle with Naraku, but now she was not someone you wanted to piss off.
"InuYasha?" Kagome stood at the bottom of the Goshinboku. The tree where they first met three years ago, on Kagome's fifteenth birthday. InuYasha didn't answer her, didn't even acknowledge her presence. She had tried to talk to him on the trip back to the village, but got no answer. She had cried so much when no one was looking. She really didn't think she would have any tears left to shed.
Sango and Miroku filled in the blank spaces, the time she lost when she had died. No one mentioned InuYasha's words to her, when he said he loved her, and needed her. In return, she didn't talk about it either. No one knew that she remembered his words, and that she remembered her own.
"InuYasha...I have to go home," Kagome didn't know whether to be angry at him, or to feel sorry for him. Anger was the strongest emotion. "Fine..I know you can hear me. I'm going home. If you decide I am worthy enough to talk to, I'll be in my time!" Kagome turned on her heel and started to walk to the well. She didn't bother with her over stuffed yellow bag. They had enough supplies to get them through.
InuYasha had a lot to think about. Kagome died because he wasn't strong enough to protect her. He didn't trust himself to speak. So many emotions were flying through him. He realized he never loved Kikyou like he loves Kagome. The love he felt with Kikyou was totally different from Kagome's love. Kikyou was the first one since his Mother had died to talk to him. Even though at first he didn't see it, he was desperate to be with someone. Not to be alone anymore, and Kikyou gave that to him.
Kagome was his world, and he almost lost her. He wouldn't be able to live without her, he would truly die. He wanted to spend every second, every minute with her. He felt so empty without her, without smelling her sweet scent. He never acted on his feelings for her. She deserved so much more than him. After all, he was just a Hanyou. He had nothing to give her, the only things he own was his clothing and Tetsusaiga. Everytime he tried to talk to her, he ended up saying something stupid. He always hurt her feelings. Sometimes he really never meant to, other times he felt like she was getting to close. Even with all the shit he put her through, she still stayed by his side. Even when he was going to go to hell with Kikyou after he killed Naraku, she asked him if she could stay with him. She didn't want him to die. He always thought it was because she was a nice person. But now, he was having second thoughts. Maybe she did return his feelings, hell, she even told him she loved him. But that damn little voice in his head kept telling him she really didn't mean it. She said it because she was dying, or maybe she didn't mean it that way. She hadn't said anything about it after, so neither did he. It was more that he couldn't summon the courage to bring it up. He didn't trust himself to even say anything. Knowing him, he'd say something stupid.
He heard Kagome, speaking to him. He couldn't talk to her, he didn't deserve to speak to her. It was because of him she had died. But she was alive now, Kikyou gave her the gift of life. That didn't even come close to erasing what he caused.
He stole a glance at the girl, she was mad at him. She was walking towards the well to go home. Every single part of him wanted to go after her, hug her tight to his chest and tell her, he loves her. Yet, he stayed put, in his favorite branch in the Goshinboku, the tree where they first met. Three years, it had been three years since they met. He sighed heavy and closed his eyes, and let the scene play over and over in his head.
~*~*~Flash Back~*~*~
"Inu....Yasha?" Kagome choked out. She looked at her friends, they were a reck. They had been crying for her. She thought she died, but she didn't feel that way. The last thing she remembered was getting hit by one of Naraku's tentacles when she pushed InuYasha out of the way. There were so many questions, but they could wait. She was in InuYasha's arms, she snuggled closer, and smiled weakly.
Sango gasped and moved over to her and started to cry. Miroku was standing beside her, thanking the Kami's under his breath. Sesshomarou even had a very, very small smile on his lips. She looked at InuYasha, he was staring at her. His eyes were glazed over red, yet he still had those golden orbs, the ones she could get lost in. She figured he was in Youkai InuYasha form. Her death probably set him off, she concluded. She reached up and traced one of the jagged purple stripes on his cheek bones with her index finger. "Is everyone okay?"
Sango half laughed, half cried out. That was Kagome, she had died, and she asked if everyone else was okay. She was truly selfless, no one even though she had a selfish bone in her body.
"Little brother, you should all leave this place. This field will attract Youkai, and you are all in no shape to battle." With that said, Sesshomarou walked to the tree where Kagura's body laid. He scooped her up and, took on his energy form and flew away in a ball of light.
InuYasha stood up with Kagome in his arms and looked at his comrades. He silently told them to get ready to go with his eyes. Sango grabbed her Hiraikotsu, and called Kirara. Her and Miroku boarded Kirara, and followed InuYasha back to the village.
~*~*~End of Flash Back~*~*~
"Mama! I'm home!" Kagome walked into the kitchen to see her Mother making tea.
"Oh, hi dear!" Ms. Higurashi continued fixing tea for her and her daughter as she spoke. "How are you?"
"I'm fine..sort of.." Kagome sighed and pulled out one of the kitchen table chairs and sat down. How do you tell your Mother, that you died and the person who you were reincarnated from brought you back to life. And the man you fell in love with, who you don't think returns your feelings, isn't speaking to you?
Ms. Higurashi poured a cup of tea for her daughter, then one for herself and moved to the table and sat across from Kagome. She smiled to her daughter and placed her cup of tea infront of her. "What's troubling you, dear?" Asami was always understanding. She wanted her children to trust her, and be able to talk to her without fearing them getting into trouble. She took a sip of her tea and placed her hand over her daughters.
Kagome smiled at her Mother. She was the best Mom in the world. Yes, everyone says that about their Mothers, but Asami beat them all by a long shot. "Well...we defeated Naraku..." Kagome trailed off.
"That's wonderful dear. Is everyone all right?" She saw her daughter nod, and she smiled. "But, that's not what you came to tell me, is it?"
'Why are you so nervous? You know she will understand, just say it!' Kagome took in a deep breath and looked her Mother in her eyes. "I died...but Kikyou brought me back...and the Shikon Jewel is part of my body again...and InuYasha isn't speaking to me." Kagome hung her head low, waiting for her Mother to freak..but she never did.
"May I ask..how you died?" Her Mother swallowed hard, but continued. "InuYasha is always protecting you. Not that I'm saying it's his fault..I'm just curious." She patted her daughters, hand for reassurance. She was trying her best to hide her shock, and not hug her daughter fiercely. All that mattered, is that she was okay. Kagome needed to tell her something, and hugs could wait.
Kagome went on to explain everything that happened, and what she was told after she had died. What Kikyou did for her, and about the Shikon no Tama being part of her body again. She left out the exchange between her and InuYasha before she died. She took a deep breath and looked at her Mother. Both women at the table were in tears.
Asami looked at her daughters tear stained face. Her daughter had always been strong, and selfless. "Kagome, I know this isn't going to sound Motherly..but, I'm proud of you. I am so proud to have you as my daughter. Not many people would give their life for another. I'm just so glad your alive, no mistake." She got up and rushed over to her daughter and hugged her tight. Both women broke down in tears.
Asami got the feeling her daughter wasn't telling her the whole story. She rubbed her daughters back, and hugged her tight. She sniffled and pulled back from her daughter and looked her in eyes. "I have the feeling your not telling me something, I can't help you if you don't tell me." She saw her daughters gaze flicker somewhere else. Her daughter suddenly found her cup of tea, very interesting. "Chalk it up to Motherly instincts. But, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to Kagome. I trust you."
Kagome looked at her Mother and sighed heavy. "When..when I was dying...I told InuYasha that I loved him, and he said he loved me too, and he needed me. But.." Kagome started hiccuping and crying hard. "He hasn't spoken to me since...not a word! I feel like he lied to me, that he just said it to pacify a dying girl!" Kagome wiped her tears away angrily. "Everyone told me, that he told Kikyou that he loved me, and he let her bring me back, knowing that she would die! Why would he do that if he didn't love me!? I don't know what hurts worse, him lying about it, or not speaking to me!" Kagome buried her nose in her Mothers shoulder and started to cry harder. "...why? I just love him so much..."
A knew rush of tears came to Asami's eyes. She knew her daughter was hurting, and that hurt her too. She knew InuYasha was a tough cookie to figure out. She just hoped that he would get the message, he heard the whole conversation after all. She had seen a flash of silver pull back, after her daughter was done speaking.
InuYasha felt really bad about ignoring Kagome. She didn't deserve that. She had been through a lot. He took a deep breath and leaped out of the Goshinboku, and took off at a run towards the well. He never got tired of the warm and fuzzy feeling as the time slip passed over him. He sighed and collected his thoughts, he didn't want to say something stupid and hurt her more. He leaped out of the well and walked out of the well house. Kagome scent was still fresh. Good, that meant she was still here.
He leaped through her window, into her room. She wasn't in her room, her scent was stale, meaning she hadn't been in her room yet. He decided to go find her, he walked out of her room and heard Kagome, and her Mothers voices. The smell of Kagome's tears hit him hard, he knew those tears were because of him. He slowly walked down stairs, and stood behind the wall to the kitchen. He peaked around the corner to see Kagome and her Mother talking. He arrived just in time to hear Kagome telling her Mother how she died, and why she did it. He grimace, her Mother was going to kill him.
He heard the scratching sound of a chair moving backwards. He stiffened, against his better judgment, he peaked around the corner. Kagome's Mother was hugging Kagome tight, and both women were crying, but Kagome was crying harder.
When he heard Kagome break down, and tell her Mother what was really bothering her, he felt like he was the biggest jerk on the face of the Earth. He didn't mean to hurt her, he just had a lot to think about. 'That is no excuse baka! You made her cry..again! She loves you, you just heard her say it! You love her and you know it!'
'But..I'm a Hanyou. I..'
'There you go again! She loves you and you love her, that's all that matters!'
InuYasha moved quickly back against the wall, and shook his head. He could fight with himself later, he just had to get out of there before Kagome and her Mother saw him. He quietly leaped up the stairs, in one bound. He walked through her room and jumped out the window.
He sniffed the air, and caught Kagome's scent one last time before he leaped into the well, back to the Sengoku Jidia.
A/N: Okay, before you get pissed at me, let me explain. I have been experiencing some serious writers block! I tried my best with this chapter and I hope you liked it. I know nothing serious happened, and all the good stuff will be in the next chapter.
For all readers that are reading both my stories: I'm writing the next chapter, I will be out soon. Once again, writers block sucks. I apologize for keeping you all waiting. Ty~Sagokiyo
