Chapter Two: A Bonafide Job

Shippo walked into the new classroom. It wasn't that big of a class, holding only fifteen student desks. He set his briefcase on his own large desk and looked around. He would have to rearrange it. He hated all the desks to be in rows.

He began moving the desks into a semicircle, with his desk being the starter. When he was finished, he stepped back and took a look at his work. "Perfect," he whispered.

This way, he would be able to see all the students and they would all be able to see him. He liked being able to comminicate with the students one on one. Plus, he didn't like the implications that sitting behind someone else brought. He wanted to give everyone a fair shot at passing the class.

His class schedule sat on his desk as well as his roll book. He hadn't filled out the roll book yet, deciding he'd do that later. He went to the chalk board and wrote his name across it. He also wrote a list of things he had planned for them to do that day.

He was the history teacher. It was a subject he enjoyed more then anything. Course, having lived through said history helped a bit.

He heard the school bell ring to start off the day. He smiled to himself. This is what he had been looking forward to since he went into college. He remembered the day he stepped onto that campus.

It was a glorious day and he knew just what he wanted. To become a teacher. His dad had told him it was a good job, though the benefits were deplorable. Even his mother had been happy for him for going to school to become a teacher.

He went to his desk and sat down as the young adults piled into his classroom. He heard the gasps as they saw the desks and smiled to himself. It was clear the kids weren't used to seeing the class arranged in such a fashion.

He stood up and motioned for everyone to take their seats. He walked around the room and began with introductions. "Good morning, class. My name is Mr. Taisho and I shall be your new history teacher. As I call out your name..."

He was interrupted when the door burst open and a kid came running in. "Sorry I'm late!" she squealed.

He turned to the girl and was surprised to see Rin. He didn't know she was in his class. It was almost a pleasant surprise.. if she hadn't been covered in green gook. He looked at her questioningly as the class went up in laughter.

She bowed her head as he approached her. "Rin? What happened?" he asked.

She looked up to meet his gaze and he could tell she was ready to faint. Normally, he was flattered when she gave him that melting look. But, this was different. She seemed terrified. He pointed to the board and spoke to the class, "Take out your notebook and copy down what I have written. I'll be back in a sec."

He pulled her out into the hall where she immediately burst into tears. He knelt down before her to meet her gaze. "Rin?" he whispered. "What happened?"

She sniffed, "You weren't supposed to see this."

He gazed at her questioningly. He wasn't sure what she meant by that, but he didn't like the prospects. He asked her the question again, this time firmer.

She shuddered. "It's nothing. Honest. Just some kids joking around. It's not big deal," she whispered as she pulled out a napkin and tried to wipe the green slime off her face.

He took the napkin from her and wiped the stuff off her face for her. "Rin, this is completely inappropriate behaviour. Have you told any of the other teachers about this?"

She huffed, "What are they going to do? Laugh at me too?"

His eyes widened. He knew it was unusual for a human to attend an all demon school. But, surely the demons would at least pretend to care. After all, there were many hanyous in the school as well. He pulled her into a hug, not caring if the gook got on his clothes. He would worry about that later.

He broke the hug and stood up, taking her hand. "Come with me. We'll go to the principal's office and discuss this matter. When your parents find out..."

"No!" she shouted, surprising him again. She begged, "Please, whatever you do, do not tell my parents! I'm fine, Shippo. Really. I'll just clean myself off and it'll be over."

"What are you so scared of?" he asked, turning to her.

She shook her head. Obviously, she wasn't going to tell him. He sighed, "Go to the girl's room and clean yourself off. Come back to class when you are finished."

She nodded and turned to leave. She stopped and looked back at him. He looked at her curiously, not understanding why she was staring at him.

"You're still holding my hand," she informed him.

He blushed and let go. As she walked away, he groaned. This was going to be a long school year.

He turned and walked back into the class to find that half the class had been watching through the small window in the door. He scolded them and told them to return to their seats. He went through roll call, quietly marking Rin as here.

Rin had gotten out of the car with a sour look on her face. She knew today was going to be bad. Yesterday's looks had been promising. She wasn't disappointed.

She met up with Hokochi in the hall by his locker. His locker was immaculate, nothing like her own. He looked at her and frowned. "What's wrong?" he asked her.

She sighed, "I don't know. I just have this funny feeling something bad's going to happen today."

He nodded. "I heard you got a new history teacher," he commented, trying to change the subject. "A lot of the girls are talking about him. Apparently he is a 'hottie.'"

She giggled. She didn't know who the new teacher was. A lot of new teachers were showing up. She knew Shippo had gotten a job here, but she figured he was a sports coach or something. That sort of job fit him perfectly.

"I guess anything's better then looking at that old hag for an hour and a half," she shot back.

He nodded in agreement. "She was scary," he shuddered.

She laughed. They walked to her locker where they saw a bunch of ogres gathered there. Fear immediately hovered over her. She didn't know what they were up to, but she knew it wasn't good. She approached the group and softly asked, "May I get to my locker, please?"

She was stunned as they just left. They turned and left.... This wasn't good. But, there was nothing for it. She had to get her history book for class today.

"You know, you could always tell the teacher you forgot your book at home," Hokochi suggested.

Rin shook her head. She was not going to back down just because a bunch of guys decided to be idiots. She walked up to her locker and set the combination. She opened the door... and was shot in the face with what seemed like tons of green slime.

Hokochi watched in shock as the girl was covered from head to foot in the stuff. He didn't know what to do. He could here the students around laugh at his friend. Quickly, he grabbed her hand and took her away, making sure to grab her history book as well before slamming the door shut.

Rin didn't know whether to cry at the fact she was covered in slime or laugh at her own stupidity. She should've known it was something immature like this. The slime stunk and was gross. She knew it was all over her too. In her hair, on her face, on her clothes. She didn't know how she was going to answer her mother's questions.

She went to the restroom and cleaned herself off the best she could. She still had slime everywhere, but she looked a little better. She heard the tardy bell ring and gasped. She was gonna be late! Rin was never late for class!

She ran out of the bathroom and passed Hokochi. She hadn't even realized he had waited for her. She ran through the history room door and shouted, "Sorry, I'm late!"

She heard the class rise up in laughter. She bowed her head. She didn't know she still looked that bad. Then, she felt a hand on her shoulder. "Rin? What happened?" came the all too familiar voice.

She looked up and paled. Shippo was her new teacher? Oh, god! As if getting slimed wasn't bad enough! She wanted to melt in his gaze, as always. Everytime she looked at him she felt herself go weak. But, now was not the time. She was terrified. Now that he knew, she was worried about who he would tell.

"Rin? What's wrong?" he had asked her again. She could feel herself heat up again. This was not what she needed. She suddenly missed the old hag. At least the hag would've just sneered at her and scolded her for being late and being covered in slime. This was much worse.

She looked up to meet his gaze. She wanted to tell him she was fine. It was an accident. She heard him give directions to the class as he led her out of the classroom. She had never been more embarrassed. Why couldn't she have gotten anyone else but Shippo as her teacher? She felt like disappearing.

He asked her the same question again and she knew this time, there was no getting out of it. "You weren't supposed to see this."

Where did that come from? It definantly wasn't what she meant to say. She quickly tried to cover herself up, telling him she was ok and everything was going to be fine. After all, what was a little green slime? It would come off. She took a napkin out of her backpack and tried desparately to wipe the stuff off.

She felt his hand touch hers as he took the napkin from her. She trembled at that touch. She wanted to throw her arms around his neck and just kiss him. She was stunned when he pulled her into a hug. All she could think to do was cry. She cried for the torture she was given by the other students. And then she cried for a different torment. A torment that was far deeper then slime. And then he mentioned telling her parents. "No!" she shouted instantly. They, above all, could not find out about this.

"What are you so scared of?"

How was she supposed to tell him? I know my father and he would blow if he found out? I don't want my dad destroying the school? I didn't want you to find out because I like you? These questions ran through her mind as she shook her head.

He told her to go back to the restroom and then come back to class. She had already been in the restroom, but she figured it wouldn't hurt to go back anyway. At least she wouldn't have demoness laughing at her while she tried to clean up.

She turned to leave and realized he was still holding her hand. She blushed slightly at this. She wanted to crawl back in his arms and cry more. She wants to hold him like he had held her. She was being rediculous. "You're still holding my hand," she told him instead.

She watched as he blushed and let go of her. She didn't understand why he was blushing, but then, she didn't understand why he had held her hand for so long. Had he forgotten what he was doing? The torment was almost unbearible.

Shippo watched as Rin reentered his classroom and took a seat. She looked a little better. Her hair was wet and swept back in a ponytail. He assumed she washed her hair out in the sink. He wondered how often she got picked on like that.

He continued talking to the class, going over everything they would cover and how the school year was going to go. He watched as Rin took the notes she needed and otherwise... daydreamed. He smiled. It was odd how she was able to take notes and daydream at the same time. Then again, he was talking and daydreaming. It certainly wasn't uncommon to multitask.

He heard the loud groan as he mentioned tests every Friday. They'll get over it and get used to it. He noticed the many stares and google eyes he got from the different girls in his class. But, he said nothing about it and thought nothing of it. Let them stare. He supposed it was a nice change from the old hag he had replaced.

The school bell rang and the class was dismissed. He watched as the students began walking out of his class and he called to Rin.

The young girl turned to look at him. "Yes, Mr. Taisho?" she answered.

He shook his head. "Hang back for a moment," he suggested.

She waited until the other students left before approaching his desk. She tilted her head slightly at him.

"Rin, since I am teaching at your school, Mother thought it would be a great idea for me to start bringing you back and forth. So, meet me here this afternoon and I'll bring you home," he told her.

She sighed, but nodded. "I'll see you this afternoon," she stated as she turned and left.

He smiled at that. Perhaps this year wouldn't be so bad after all. If anything, he'll have Rin to keep him company. His thoughts went to the young girl. She was human, but far different from the humans he had associated with throughout time.

Perhaps it was because she was from a different time? She was born in the Feudal Era and had, in fact, lived the first seven years of her life there. She was a lot like the miko he called 'mother.'

He knew she would have no problems at passing the class. She was smart. And her sense of humour would keep up nicely with his sarcasm. She was beautiful, too, which made her a welcome sight.

He stopped at that. Perhaps it wouldn't be so wise to teach her. It would be better if he asked the principal to move her to a different class. She would be a distraction that he would find most appealing.

He shook his head to rid himself of those thoughts. She was his student. And he was to teach her, nothing more. Besides, she was sort of like a sister to him. They had been adopted by the same woman. And if not sister, then cousin. His dad was her dad's brother.

But, they weren't blood related. No. She was full blooded human and he was full blooded youkai. There were no physical relations there. He could easily make her his...

What the hell was he thinking?! Make her his?! Was he insane? He had to be losing his sanity. The girl was Sesshomaru's daughter. If the possiblity of her being family wasn't enough to stop him, then her father should be enough. Sesshomaru would kill him if he found out the kitsune was harbouring desires for the girl.

Where were the desires coming from anyway? Shouldn't he feel more brotherly to her rather then like that? It would make more sense...

In his mind, he pictured her standing there, staring at him. She wore that same gaze she always wore when she looked at him. He knew she harboured some feelings for him. He wondered just how much.

Rin ran down the hall with Hokochi close at her heels. She wanted to get to Shippo's classroom quickly. It was the end of the day and she was anxious to get home.

When she got to the classroom, she pushed passed the other students to get inside. She found Shippo sitting at his desk. Immediately, she could feel herself melt when she looked upon him. What was it about the kitsune that made her react in such a way?

The youkai didn't need to look up to know Rin was there. He could sense her, smell her standing before him. He smiled and glanced up. "Ready to go home?" he asked.

She nodded. He opened his briefcase and stuck the necessary work inside. With a nod, he let her lead him out.

Rin sat in the passenger's seat. So far so good. He hadn't asked her any questions about the slime thing from earlier. That was a really good thing. She really didn't want to go into detail how her last seven years in private school have been horrible.

Shippo remained quiet through the ride, but he was nervous as all hell. The radio was on, playing whatever stuff kids listened to these days. He didn't really pay much attention to who the new groups were or anything. The music did little more then help calm him down. And he needed it.

He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. Yes, this was much better then what he wanted to do. His hand itched to hold hers again. It would be such a simple thing. Just reach over and take her hand into his. No biggie. Yeah, right.

The moment his hand touched hers, he knew it would be over. He didn't know what he would do, but he did know it wouldn't be anything good. Well, it would be good for a little while, but after the moment was gone, it'd be disasterous.

Briefly, he found his thoughts on Miroku, the lecherous monk who had traveled with him so many years ago. That monk had a horrible tendancy for putting his hands in places where they didn't belong. And he was always asking women to bare his children. Well, until he married.

Shippo had a crazy notion to turn to Rin and ask her to bare his child. Why not? He felt just like Miroku. At least that way, she would know his intentions and would be able to stop him. He could almost see himself happily nursing a handprint on his face. The thought made him almost laugh out loud.

Rin wasn't doing much better. She kept feeling this odd need to be closer to him, but then horrible thoughts crossed her mind. What did he think of her? What should he think of her? Well, she knew the answer to that one. If he was any demon, he should think her weak and unable to take care of herself.

She wouldn't be surprised if, when they got to her home, he threw her over his shoulder and carried her into the mansion. That idea sent shivers down her spine. The thought of Shippo touching her in such a way made her almost giddy.

What was she thinking?! This was Shippo. Sure, she had the hugest crush on him, but was that a good enough reason to fantasize about him? Dear god, what was she? A hentai?

Yet, for whatever reason, she couldn't get passed the idea of him sweeping her up in his arms and kissing her. To give herself to him would be even more wonderful. And if he claimed her...

She shook her head. No. She couldn't be thinking like that. She wouldn't be thinking like that. For whatever it was worth, Shippo was connected to her in more ways then one. Even if Uncle Inuyasha hadn't adopted him, or her mother hadn't, he was still her teacher.

But, she thought with a mischievous gleam, there are so many things he could teach her that are not taught in school...

They drove through the gates and pulled into the driveway. Shippo shut off the car and they sat there. Neither said anything, but just sat there.

Rin glanced at him nervously. She was so used to him opening the door for her, she wasn't sure what to do. Finally, she whispered, "Shippo?"

He growled to himself as he snarled, "Ah, to hell with it!"

Before she could react, he reached over and kissed her on the lips. He lost his breath as he tasted her. God, she tasted good. Like pocky and apple juice. He wanted to drink more.

She was lost for a moment. She never had a guy kiss her before, much less a guy she had been crushing on for years. At first, she wasn't sure how to respond, then she let her instincts take over as she returned the kiss.

Tasting her acceptance, he slipped his tongue out to brush against her bottom lip. She was tantalizing. He glided his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him. It was so crapped in this small car. And her seatbelt was still on.

He didn't want to break the kiss. Not yet, anyway. So, he left the seat belt alone for now.

He gently guided her in the kiss. He could tell she was unused to being kissed. Unused to being touched. She was innocent and he wanted her. He wanted her like he had never wanted a female before.

He let his tongue pry her lips apart and brush along her teeth. She willingly opened herself up to him and he drank of her. She had been everything he had hoped and more. He could tell by the kiss that she wanted him just as badly.

He was almost tempted to throw her into the backseat and take her right then and there. Almost. Commonsense kept him from making that mistake.

She could feel herself melting into him. Everything about him drove her crazy. His touch, his kiss, his passion. She hadn't known he thought of her what she thought of him. Suddenly, she felt like she could fly. She was on fire and he was going to devour her.

Every part of her body ached for his touch, his kiss. If only she could get him to... What were they doing? She lifted her hands to his chest and gently pushed him away, breaking the kiss. She slowly opened her eyes (When had she closed them?) and searched for his blue orbs.

He licked his lips as he opened his eyes to gaze into hers. When their eyes met, he immediately bowed his head. "I'm sorry," he whispered.

She was stunned. "For kissing me?" she whispered in a hoarse voice.

He shook his head. "For wanting to do it again," he answered her. He released her seatbelt and went to take her back into his arms.

She struggled against him and he stopped. He gazed at her with hurtful eyes. Didn't she want what he wanted? He could feel it, smell it on her.

"Shippo," she spoke softly, her voice stronger now, "we have to stop."

He gave a frustrated sigh at her logic. It was so much easier just to continue where they had left off. To think about the consequences later. Gently, he pulled himself away from her and rested in his seat. He closed his eyes and tried to ease the aching in his groin. He hadn't realized his need for her had carried all the way there. Must have been why he contemplated on throwing her in the backseat...

When he felt safe enough, he whispered, "I'll make a deal with you."

She gazed at him curiously. Was he planning on doing everything in secret? She waited for him to finish.

"I won't tell your parents about what happened today, but you have to promise me something..." he told her. He opened his eyes and gazed back into hers. Seeing her curiousity in plain sight, he finished, "If anyone at that school teases you again, you are to come to me immediately. If your father gets wind of it, there will be hell to pay. You know that. He will deal with those kids personally. At least, if you come to me, I'll be a bit more civil... at least a lot more than Lord Sesshomaru."

Her eyes widened. How had he managed to go from hot, steamy kiss to practical things? The thought appalled her and she opened her door to get out of the car. He grabbed her by the arm before she was fully out. His touch burned her and she turned to look at him.

"Promise me, Rin," he demanded.

She sighed and snatched her arm out of his hand. "I promise... jerk!" she ran into the house.

How in the hell had he become a jerk? he wondered.
