"blah" = talking
'blah' = thinking
blah (italics)= memory/flashback

>>>>> = indicates beginning/end of chapter
******** = indicates time passing be it long or short
~~~~~ = indicates beginning/end of memory/flashback
On with the show!
(And I know not all people like it when an author reviews what happened in the last chapter but some people do and it helps me remember where I left off when I'm writing.)
Review
Lord Sesshoumaru esorted them both to their respective rooms, her father to his first, bidding him a good and restful sleep. Then when the two reached her chambers he took her hand and gently pressed a kiss to the inside of her wrist and bid her a good night. Hikari had almost gone into her room before she looked back out into the hall and wached him go through the door near the end of the hall.
The nearness of his chambers made her feel oddly relieved and safe, her father couldn't come and yell at her because Lord Sesshoumaru would surely hear. And she had a feeling he would come to her rescue if her father did pay her a visit.
Continuing
Hikari laid there in her bed, staring at the silken curtains around and above her bed. Se had never had this problem before. She had never had trouble sleeping, she could sleep anywhere, anytime. And she never ever ever lost sleep over a potential suitor because she actually liked him and worried about his opinion of her.
It had been a fortnight and a half since they had arrived. She had to admit, their stay was very pleasant so far. Her father wasn't able to yell at her most of the time because either it was after they had retired for the evening and Lord Sesshoumaru was too close and would hear, or she was with Lord Sesshoumaru and/or Rin. She'd been only yelled at three times during their entire stay! She couldn't have felt more content and relaxed.
At first a lot of the time she spent with Lord Sesshoumaru was with her father present. It wasn't until eight days ago that she got to be alone with Sesshoumaru. And admittedly she was terrified. What if he was only polite and quiet when in front of others? What if he was actually like her father and all the other lords, loud and abusive, verbally or physically, when alone with a female? Her worries were unfounded.
Hikari was sitting comfortably next to the koi pond under the maple as she had the first day, although she had made sure not to fall asleep again. She had some bread saved from her breakfast that she had ate in her room since both males had been busy with state business. And she was tearing off small pieces and tossing them to the fish, listening to the small sounds made by the fish hitting the surface to eat them.
"Hello Lord Sesshoumaru," she smiled up at him as he came up beside her.
He looked down, "hn."
He stood there for a few minutes, simply watching her throw bread to the fish. Not wanting to appear rude she tore off a respectively large chunk and held it up to him.
"Care to join me?"
He raised an eyebrow at her, "and what would be the purpose of feeding fish that are already well-fed?"
Hikari shrugged, still holding up the chunk of bread, "something to do I suppose."
"Hn," he seemed to accept this because he sat down next to her and accepted the piece, breaking off small precise cubes with his claws, tossing them onto the pond.
She watched for a moment and then began giggling.
Lord Sesshoumaru raised his eyebrow yet again, "something amusing you Lady Hikari?"
She gave him a grin and pointed to the small cube of bread currently poised for tossing in his claws, "do you always do everything with such... precision?"
His eyebrow dropped back to its normal station and he looked away. Hikari suddely feared she had insulted the lord and began nervously fidgeting with the piece of bread in her small hands.
"Not everything I suppose, although one can try, and this one intends to."
She turned to look at him, unsure if he was serious or joking, when he looked at her though she could see the amused twinkle he usually got in the depths of his eyes when Rin would do something funny.
Hikari smiled, "what if something, to be done correctly, must be done with imprecision?"
"Then this Sesshoumaru will have to find some way to do imprecision with precision."
She couldn't help but laugh at his response, "that, my lord, would be quite an oxymoron of a situation."
He spared her a glance and resumed tossing perfectly cubed crumbs to the koi.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well at least she know knew he had a sense of humor.

Hikari continued to lay in her bed for another hour before she finally gave up on sleep and decided to explore the fortress, seeing as she had not yet had the chance. And since everyone was asleep than no one would bother her, she could go wherever she wanted.

So with that in mind she got up, pulled on a light pink robe and left her room, her bare feet padding softly on the stone and wood floors.

At first it had been rather boring. A lot of rooms were either locked or mostly empty. Viewing her exploration as a total waste of time she headed back to her room when she saw something that made her stop abruptly. Normally one does not bother to look behind wall hangings and tapestries. But this one looked slightly off as the side was caught on a door handle that would normally have been hidden behind it.

'Now that was what I was looking for! Something worth exploring if it's normally well hidden.'

So she pushed aside the edge and pushed open the heavy wood door to reveal a staircase leading up to another level of the fortress. For a moment, a very brief moment, she almost regretted invading the lords privacy and entering somewhere purposefully hidden. But that moment left swiftly and was replaced by her usual curiosity that, more often than not, got her into trouble.

So Hikari ventured up the wooden steps, they were very stable and did not creak at all as she made her way up the very long staircase. When she reached the top she was met with a long hallway that went to either side of her and many doors branching from it.

'I hope they are not all locked or this is going to be a dissapointment.'

The first door she opened was unlocked and appeared to be filled with, well, stuff. It was obviously being used for storage. She walked up to a large sheet draped over something and pulled, she stared in surprise. There looking back at her was a very young Sesshoumaru standing next to his father. The thing that surprised her though, was that he was smiling. And not just a regular smile, he was sporting a huge grin that looked positively adorable on his rather chubby little face.

Hikari smiled back at the portrait of the young lord and his father before turning to the other things in the room. Most of it was old furniture that looked to have belonged to a woman at one point in time, they were very old but very well made. What caught her eye though was on a vanity in the corner near the door. In it's own little holder was a plain looking hairbrush made of what looked to be ivory from the mainland and small combs hanging next to it in holders that were identically plain.

Feeling her curiosity for the room satisfied she recovered the portrait of Sesshoumaru and his father and left the room, quietly closing the door. The next few rooms were much the same, filled with private storage, one even had old children's toys that she suspected to belong to Sesshoumaru when he was young. The room at the end of the right hall was her favourite and she vowed to return another night to visit it. It was filled on every wall up to the ceiling with books, scrolls, loose pages bound together, and old tablets made of wood and stone. She could never resist the thought of a secret library.

She walked back to the staircase and looked out the window across from it, she could see the first stages of dawn coming and was about to return to her room before Lord Sesshoumaru awoke and came to escort her to breakfast, when she heard it.

It was a musical sound coming from down the hall, a sound she had never heard before and she had to admit it was very beautiful. Unable to resist, even as the warning bells in her head told her to go to her room because she was no longer alone, she ventured down the hall she had not yet explored till she came to a door halfway down it. The music seemed to be coming out of the door, left ajar only a small crack the width of her littlest finger.

Hikari pushed it open a little further to peek in, praying it wouldn't creak, and it didn't, and she looked. there was an instrument, large and taking up a whole corner of the room. It was made of what looked like black polished wood with a lid on the top that was propped open by a just as black and just as polished thin piece of wood. The beautiful melody was coming out of the opening. Although the one controlling the music was sitting on a cushioned stool, tapping on small white and black bars with precision and purpose.

It was only then when she actually looked at the musician did she realize it was Sesshoumaru who was playing the instrument, she made the mistake of gasping out loud in surprise instead of only in her mind.

Immediately the music stopped and the lords clawed hands remained poised over the bars, "well are you going to continue standing at the door or come in now that you've interrupted this Sesshoumaru," came a surprisingly irritated voice.

Now I know it was pretty obvious that it was Sesshoumaru playing the music. Anyone wanna guess what the instrument is that he is playing? Review and tell me your guess and everyone that is right gets a gold star!

Oxymoron - two words put together that contradict eachother. Example - prefectly imperfect, cruel kindness, gaint mouse, small mountain, etc.

Well there you have it, chapter 3. Hope you like it and that it left you hanging and wanting more. Now I shall get to working on my other piece of fiction before I go to bed.
