Chapter 2: Lost

missed her.
the past eleven years it was like that. Sesshoumaru had attempted to pull back into his old way of living. Merciless and full of hate. But he had found that it was harder than he had hoped. Every day he wished he could go back to the village and demand that Rin come back to him, where she belonged. But that would lower him. And he, as a respectable taiyoukai, could not afford to be weak and bring himself down to the level of humans.
would never do that.
that thought did not help him stop missing her. He had tried to take a mate, so that his mind might be free from Rin and he could be at peace. But that had not worked either. He could see that many females were beautiful. He could see that they were poised and elegant and everything that a lady should be. But that was not enough.
could also see their faults and he automatically compared them to his Rin. One demoness would talk in a slight slur, like she had something in her throat. But Rin never talked that way; she always spoke with her perfect, musical, young voice. Another demoness stood rigidly and she seemed to have a fit every now and then. But Rin was always relaxed, and at ease.
this way Sesshoumaru found it impossible to take a mate. None of these noble demonesses had the qualities in Rin that he cherished. Like how she would always smile at him brightly at the littlest of things or run into a meadow and pick flowers to make crowns for him. Jaken squawked at him and insisted that if he did not choose a mate soon, the continuation of his line would be unsure. Sesshoumaru, of course, would not listen to the ramblings of his servant and would only send a heavy glare his way.
the years, Sesshoumaru had forgotten that Rin must have been getting older. He forgot that in the process of eleven years, Rin could certainly not be the little girl he knew. That she must have grown older with the passing time. It might have been that he did know, once. But then he just chose to forget.
was quite unsure as to why he let Rin go. He knew he once knew, in the beginning. But like Rin's aging, he began to forget. Sometimes he was, sure that it was because having a little human girl tagging along with him would tarnish his reputation and he would be looked down upon. Sometimes he thought it was because he hated the little girl and had no desire to have her around him any longer. Or maybe it was because he didn't want to love her and share the same fate as his father. It was because he was afraid of what he might become.
taiyoukai laughed at the thought. Love? How could he ever love a human? He did not even fear anything. And he most definitely did not love. Definitely.
Sesshoumaru would wonder about her welfare. How the villagers treated her. Did she miss him? Did she hate him? Sesshoumaru stopped thinking about that. Why would he care? He wouldn't. Many things, youkai and ningen alike, hated him. Why would Rin make a difference? Because you don't want her to. Because you love her. Foolishness. He loved no one! Growling, Sesshoumaru leapt through the window of his study and into the fields. Woe to the youkai who crossed his path.
flying across the ground, Sesshoumaru would come upon youkai before they even knew what hit them. A hebi youkai was foolish enough to bar his way. Immediately Sesshoumaru's claws brought it down. He only stopped when he began to grow tired from the constant fighting. Breathing heavily, Sesshoumaru headed back for the castle.
had been traveling for hours and she still did not have the slightest clue as to where she was. Hoping to see someone pass by, she continued stumbling down her path. Finally, Rin was completely unsure where she was now. She sighed and headed toward the nearest clearing. Looking around she found that there was no near one. "Now look what I've gotten myself into." She stopped and set her pack down. "Well, I need some fire wood." Awkwardly walking the path almost blindly, except for the small sliver of moon, she found what she believed to be good firewood. Groaning, Rin cursed herself and wished that she could still remember all the details that she had learned in her travels with Sesshoumaru-sama.
When Sesshoumaru returned he felt no less angry then he was before. But being to tired to act upon it; he just fell down on his bed and went to sleep.
he woke up in the morning he realized that he was bloodstained and very messy. What would Rin think of his disheveled form? She'd probably laugh brightly and comment about his untidiness. But no matter what he did, Rin never thought of him any less. Breaking from his thoughts, Sesshoumaru cursed himself. How could he let his thoughts wander to her? He could not afford to think of Rin anymore. She was no longer apart of his life. She never would be again.
You love her. She is precious to you. She's your little baby girl. Your pup!
growled. How did he hate that nasty little voice that kept repeating the same thing. That he loved her. He loved no one. "I DON'T!" "Don't what?" said a little voice behind him. Turning back to the voice Sesshoumaru spoke "Jaken. This Sesshoumaru did not know that you had the right to come into my quarters." "Oh, forgive me, Sesshoumaru-sama! This lowly Jaken only meant to remind you that the Lord of the East's ambassador should be arriving today! And you're a mess! Don't you thi-" "Jaken do you question this Sesshoumaru's memory and appearance?" "N-no Sesshoumaru-sama, I only meant to-" "Then leave." "H-hai, Sesshoumaru-sama."
out the door, Jaken left his master in peace. "My lord is truly fearsome! Oh, and it's all because of that wretched girl!" In a way he was right. Ever since Rin had disappeared Sesshoumaru began on his downfall. He became more restless and violent. No one dared question him or his authority. If they did, they died. Jaken himself was lucky to be alive.
was right. He was a mess. Looking down on himself he decided it was time for him to take a bath. He definitely needed it.
I decided to stop there. Dunno why. I guess 'cause I'm not gonna show Sesshoumaru taking a bath. And *dodges knives* I don't know how to phrase him after the bath. "And Sesshoumaru walked out of the bath". That's gay.
need to clear up a few things. One: Sesshoumaru still thinks Rin is a little girl. He's not a pedophile. So he thinks of her as a little daughter. For now. He will though. I shall make him. Two: I'd like if you guys told me if you see something wrong with my story. Please. Any ideas that pop into your head, don't hesitate to tell me. Three: I accept flames. But I hate Sess/Kag so don't tell me that it should be that. 'Cause I'll shoot you.
