Chapter 8: Lady
[Three days later, Sesshoumaru's Palace, Corridors, Rin]
Lady Rin, by Jaken's voice, had the nicest ring that she had ever heard coming from a toad. She had heard it many times at Chouwa's village. In fact, the only people who did not call her "Lady Rin" were the people who were Lady's herself. But here, with Jaken and other demons it was strange to hear a "Lady or "milady" every time she was spoken to.
didn't take Sesshoumaru seriously when he said, in a very discreet way, that she was Lady Rin. His Lady Rin said a naughty voice in her head. But as always, Sesshoumaru was forever serious.
remembered that when she walked corridors and the servants bowed and said "Lady Rin" very formally, in a very serious way. At first, she dubiously thought that they were being respectful to her miko status. Soon, though it was proven that what Sesshoumaru said was not just an off-hand compliment. Jaken thus proved it, when she walked into Ah-Un's stable and he rigidly bowed to her, addressing Rin as a lady.
once recovered from the shock, told him that that was most certainly not necessary, or even wanted, and commanded him to stop. Jaken was all too happy to comply. Thankfully, Ah-Un could not call her "Lady" (and she suspected he did not want to), so she was saved from being lady-ed all day. Of course, Sesshoumaru himself never called her lady, either, so that was a safe haven as well.
Rin never liked being called a lady. It didn't seem right, almost. As a miko, it was considered socially unacceptable to not be called "Lady" no matter how fledgling the miko was. Dark miko's were an exception. Other than that, a miko was always referred to as lady, which Rin was not. How could Rin be a Lady when she did neither look, act or give the presence of one?
was all right though, as long as the people who mattered gave her the truth.
stopped in front of her destination. Bordered on the doors was a silver inscription very much like Mikomi's own. On each of the two doors was engraved two blue crescent moons facing each other. The wood itself was a deep mahogany that was very smooth and imposing. The brass doorknobs were shaped like a dog's head. Rin did not very much like the knobs, for they always seem to reach out and almost bite her hand if she touched it. Apparently, this door was foreign
her breath, she reached to touch the brass knocker (which was very simplistic, compared to the door knobs) and gave it two sharps pounds twice.
her ears, Rin heard a muffled "enter" and opened the door. She stepped in, waiting to see if it was right to walk further. She was confident Sesshoumaru's nose told him who it was.
by seemingly important documents, Sesshoumaru lifted his head from one to look at her and say, "Yes?"
from her observations, Rin stood, gaping for words. Finally she managed to get out, "Question!" Sesshoumaru looked at her nearly questioningly. Flustered, Rin stuttered out "I- I came to- to ask a question."
"Such as?" He half encouraged.
huffed. He seemed amused. "I want to leave." [1]
[Sesshoumaru]
Sesshoumaru was taken aback. Leave? She just got here and she wanted to leave? Did I do something wrong? He did not voice his thoughts, but only said, "That wasn't a question."
"Oh." Rin said seemingly more embarrassed then she was before. "I meant could I leave the palace walls for a little?" She paused. "Only for a little! I just need to get rid of some pent-up energy! Please! I could be a threat; I might accidentally purify Jaken or a servant! I might-"
"Yes."
gave a brilliant smile. "Thank you, Sesshoumaru-sama! It means a lot-"
interrupted her again. "As long as I go with you."
was her turn to be surprised. "Oh, well, that's- that's good. I mean" she trailed off. Rin furrowed her brow. "Why?" She inquired. "No offense, Sesshoumaru-sama." She quickly added.
an eyebrow he answered, "This Sesshoumaru wishes to see the extent of your power."
seemed to be extremely dishonest for some reason. He did want to see Rin's power, but Sesshoumaru wasn't sure that was all. Knocking the thought away, he asked instead, "When?"
gave him yet another beautiful smile. "Right now, if you want. The energies are nearly bursting out of me."
Sesshoumaru nodded and stood. Smile not fading, Rin followed him out the door. [2]
stopped, glancing over his shoulder. "With me, not behind me."
widening, Rin quickly moved to his side, to stop suddenly. "Sesshoumaru-sama? I need to change."
"Into what?"
"Well, my miko's clothes, my sword, and anything else. Did you think I'd fight in a kimono?"
"The haori and hakama. What of those?"
"Oh! Yes, I forgot. I should change into those. But what if I ruin them, or get them sullied with dirt?"
"They will not. But you will wear armor."
"Armor? I don't need-"
"Armor."
"I don't need it! It's only for-"
"Armor."
"I'm not wearing armor! That's not what it's for!"
"You will."
"I won't!" She yelled.
actually showed his surprise on his face. Did Rin not want to wear it that much? Didn't she know he just wanted her safety and- why was he thinking that? Rin never required armor; she always had him to- why was he thinking that ? She could take care of herself.
"Do what you please. Wear what you want."
looked at him shyly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell. Sorry. Thank you."
was silent until they were at her room's paper door. "I'll only be a second. Please wait." Rin said softly.
[Rin]
Taking her clothes from the wardrobe, Rin went to the newly installed changing screen and began to remove the kimono to put on her dragon haori and hakama. She even put on the black tobi and get with the gold soles. Tying her hair into a simple knot with the dragon hair tier, she looked at herself in her mirror. All of this took about twenty minutes.
her sword up from its holy barriers she tied the belt around her waist and quickly walked from her room, to see a very impatient Sesshoumaru leaning against the wall. He said nothing though and only stood and began to walk away.
[Sesshoumaru]
She did look fairly pretty in it.
human? Hardly. Humans don't look pretty in anything.
's mind was at war. Standing beside him was the source of his problems. Standing beside him was the only thing in the world that remained enigma to him. Standing beside him was the only thing that could confuse, surprise, tempt, or placate him.
he rather liked it.
End Chapter 8: Lady
Shorter chapter, yes I know. Well anyway, next chapter will be more Sesshy/Rin goin' round. Is it just I, or did their relationship take a big bang? Well ask if I confuse. If not, don't.
