Chapter 5: Jealousy and the Date
“Kagome, this is going to be great! Our first date together. I just hope that Miroku keeps his distance!” Sango said as made a fist in a waving motion. They were in the hallway at the lockers.
“Yeah, I hope so. I want tomorrow night to be a memorable one.” Kagome responded with a dreamy and pleasurable look on her face.
“At least your boyfriend isn't a lecher who grabs your ass every chance he gets.” Kagome laughed as Ayame approached them.
“What's up, guys? Are you ready for your dates?” She sounded so happy.
“Ayame, I wish you had another boyfriend. It would be more fun if we all went together!” Sango said, sounding sympathetic.
“I'm on the lookout. There has to be someone. You guys have already found your perfect match. I can't believe that he would do that to me!!” Ayame told them, sounding with disbelief in her voice. Kagome and Sango looked at each other and then back at their left-out friend. Sango wrapped her arm around Ayame's shoulder, comforting her.
“That guy wasn't worth it, Ayame. He's a two-timing bastard. Just forget about him.” Kagome said, trying to reassure her. Ayame looked up with happy, sparkling eyes. “Thanks guys, you're right, Time to move on!”
“That's our girl!” Sango and Kagome cheered.
“Now where are Inuyasha and Miroku? They said they be here.” Kagome said impatiently. Sango smiled,
“What's the matter, Kaggie? Want to be with him that much?” Kagome gave her a “Shut-up if you know what's good for you” glare. Ayame just giggled.
“Like you don't want to be with Miroku all the time?” She shot back.
“That's not true! Like I would care where he was!” Sango shot back as she turned around and crossed her arms, secretly blushing. Kagome and Ayame just laughed at their stubborn.
Just then, Kagome felt a pair of arms around her and got twirled around. “Eeeeee!” She yelped. She knew who it was. She turned around to find none other than her half demon boyfriend.
“Don't do that, you scared the living hell out of me. Next time, give a little warning”. Inuyasha just gave her a small kiss on the lips and said
“It's much more fun this way.” She gave him a playful hit on the arm. Sango, watching the two love birds having a little moment, she wasn't aware that Miroku was right behind her, lowering his hand. Sango felt something touch her and suddenly turned around in fear and sent Miroku flying down the hall with a hard punch to the face. Sango opened her eyes to find Miroku 10 feet down the hall, unconscious, with twirling eyes. She walked to him and pulled him up by the ear.
“You're rapidly digging your own grave, Miroku.” Ayame said as she continued laughing, watching the entire thing.
“How do you put up with him, Sango?” Inuyasha inquired as he, Kagome and Ayame walked to where the fuming Sango and semi-conscious Miroku were.
“Don't ask me why. I don't know the answer to that!” Sango told her friends.
Just then, something caught Sango's eye. The prestigious “Make-Up Dolls” were walking towards them.
“Uh, Kagome, there's trouble at 12:00!”
`If she's doing what I think she's going to do, she's in for a rude awakening!' Kagome thought furiously. Inuyasha noticed her sudden change of looks and glanced ahead as he saw 4 girls stand in front of them. He held on to her waist, trying to calm her. The leader, Kikyo, who had too much make-up and sluttish looking clothes, came up to Inuyasha and having the nerve to touch his shoulder. Kagome was not having this. `Oh no, she is not! She is not taking my man away!' Kikyo noticed Kagome's expression.
“Does this irritate you that much?” She pushed her away.
“Uh-oh! Ayame, prepare for a catfight! This is going to get ugly!” Sango whispered.
“I would do the same thing. She's waited all this time to see him again and she won't let him slip into Kikyo's hands.” Ayame responded as she, Sango, and Miroku went to the two girls and the confused boy.
Now infuriated, Kagome pushed Kikyo off of Inuyasha. Inuyasha backed away to the others.
“Hey, Miroku, what's the deal with these girls who look like they're from a stripper club?”
“They're known as the “Make-Up Dolls”. They flirt with cute guys around the school. Kikyo, that girl who touched you, she's the leader and Kagome's rival. They hated each other's guts since the second grade. Obviously; Kagome did something to Kikyo accidentally. Then she got all pissed off at her even with an apology. They've had verbal arguments but never physical. But the way she is looking at her now, I say things are going to get interesting!” Miroku told him.
“We only get involved when things are about to get out of control. She might be too angry to stop now. I'm afraid to try.” Sango said, hearing everything they said, with Ayame nodding in agreement. Inuyasha could tell Kagome was pissed at this point and wouldn't get in between those two.
“You know, school began, what three weeks ago, and you pick now of all times to make your move? Well, guess what? This is one boy you aren't getting, because he's with me!!” Kagome shouted, pointing a finger at herself.
“I was just waiting for the right moment to make my catch and I'm here to get what I want.” Kikyo gave a smiling look and pointed at Kagome,
“And there's nothing you can do.” She said as she started to walk the opposite way, but Kagome pulled her arm to where she previously was standing.
“You slut, how dare you say that!! You've some nerve to approach me now when I'm about to make you regret those words. You know he's my boyfriend and you still think that any boy would fall head-over-heals for you, including him? I will not let you just steal him away. Hell will freeze over before that happens. So why don't you just get lost before I get too pissed to stop!!” Kagome, now with anger, just stood there, and had her hands clenched.
The others were just watching how much intensity she had, “This is going to turn into a blood brawl. Ayame, let's make our move.” Sango whispered to Ayame, as they made their way to the verbal argument, quickly turning into a fight. Kikyo just stood there smiling, as she suddenly slapped Kagome, making her head turn. Miroku and Inuyasha just stood there, shocked to what just happened.
“She's brave, but she's just signed her death warrant.” Miroku whispered, with Inuyasha just nodding, not knowing what was going to happen. `She often told me about how angry and violent she could get, but this is bad.' He thought, now pissed off with someone who touched his girlfriend. He made his way to them, but, fortunately, was stopped by Sango and Ayame.
”Don't do it! Not when they're arguing. Wait for the right time to intervene.” Sango told him, who was just as angry as everybody else was. He calmed as they waited to see what was going to happen next.
Kagome just turned her head slowly, now with a death glare, with fire burning in her eyes.
“You have nerve to talk to me like that, you bitch! I always get what I want!” Kikyo yelled as she now was preparing for another move.
“Not this time. You will regret touching me. I will send you to hell, Skank!” Kagome now with a low, growling, voice with heavy breathing, was heading towards her with a clenched fist. Sango, Ayame and Inuyasha then ran to the two and broke it up. Sango and Ayame ran in between them while Inuyasha grabbed Kagome by the waist from behind and held her back.
“That's it! This is enough! Kikyo, you got what you deserve because of what you said and did. If you make any more wrong moves to her or Inuyasha for that matter, I will not step in. I will just let her go and watch her rip you to shreds!” Sango said very threateningly, facing Kikyo while holding Kagome back by the shoulders.
“You were lucky we stopped her in time or else it would have been too late! Get out of here before you piss us off even more!” Ayame yelled in her face, also with a low tone. Kikyo just stepped back and snapped her fingers and the 3 girls who were with her left in the opposite direction.
“She just won't stop ruining my life, will she? I will eventually lose it and all hell will break loose.” Kagome now said with a much calmer voice as she leaned into her boyfriend's arms. Luckily, no teachers were around and didn't see the upcoming fight because they would have gotten in trouble for sure.
“You were this close to ripping her apart. She pushed you over the edge this time, putting her hands all over Inuyasha right in front of you. She's digging her own grave.” Miroku said in agreement as he ran up to them.
“You better be careful, Kagome. Now that Inuyasha is involved, she will probably make your life more unbearable.” Sango told her friend, sounding relieved. She was just lucky to have stopped her in time.
“See you guys later.” They told them as Miroku and Sango went to their homeroom. “See you in homeroom, Kagome.” Ayame told her as she went the opposite direction. They left because they knew that Kagome wanted to talk to Inuyasha alone, despite it being early.
They went and leaned against the wall.
“I'm sorry. It's just that every time she comes within 6 feet of me, I can't help but loose a little control. Today, she went too far, approaching and touching you. I wasn't going to let her get what she wants.” She told him, while he put his hand on her arm, making her look up at him.
“Kagome, there's no way I would leave you for her. You're better than her.” She nodded and pressed against him, with him embracing her.
“I know you wouldn't. And it makes me feel warm inside, just knowing you'll be there to comfort me when I'm down like this.” Inuyasha just smiled, knowing that she would never leave him, holding her tighter.
“Me too, so don't worry about her. She won't ever beak us apart.” As soon as he said that, she thought about her father, knowing that he will do the same if he found out. She shook her head as she leaned up and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
“You're right, Inu, Never.” They heard the 10 min. warning bell. They kissed goodbye and parted ways letting their hands separate from one another. `There's a storm coming, Kikyo and it's heading your way. You won't touch him again. I waited 11 years for him and I won't let you take him away from me!” Kagome thought as she headed to homeroom, wanting the day to be over, for tomorrow was their first date, even though they were together for almost a month. She hoped everything would work out, with Inuyasha thinking the same thing.
Friday came and went, and finally it was the day that both Kagome and Sango were waiting for: Their first date or rather double date. Sango was going to stay the night at her house but went back to her house so that Miroku would meet her parents and then they would head to Kagome's after introductions were made at her house. Kagome was so nervous that she couldn't concentrate on what she was doing. She was excited but still had her doubts. What if her father said no? Would he do something rash? `No, as long as he sees Inuyasha in his human state, nothing can go wrong. Let's just hope that it goes smoothly and Dad will accept him.' She thought positively while she picked out her outfit she would wear for where they were going.
The town had a small festival yearly to celebrate the fall as summer drew to a close. She went with her family every year, but this year was to be the most special. She smiled as she picked out a lovely kimono. This was the special kimono that she received from her grandparents for her 15th birthday. It was indeed very special, not to mention very beautiful and sleek looking. It was Dark Blue from the top and fading to Pure Black at the bottom with the full moon at the top of the fold where her chest was with accompanying stars that had sparkles shining when ever the light hit them. At the bottom was Mt. Fuji with Sakura trees reaching to her obi, which was a silver and black. It was the perfect outfit. She had gotten the kimono on but her mother had to tie on the obi.
“You're so beautiful. I hope that boy realizes that he's dating a flamboyant girl like you.” her mother told her as she fixed her hair. She smiled and turned a light pink.
“You're just growing up so fast that I can hardly recognize you. Where was that cute girl now?”
“Very funny, Mom. Now where is that special comb you were talking about?” She asked as her mother pulled out a very exquisite looking ornament.
“This comb has been passed down through my family since my great-grandmothers time. It was mine, but now, it belongs to you.” Her mother spoke very softly as placed the shining ornament into her daughter's shiny, smooth, black hair. The comb was decorates with opals and sapphire stones with dangling silver bars. She then stood up and looked over herself in her mirror. Her hair was up in a low ponytail which went to the end of her obi. It's that long. Her mother left her room and went downstairs to wait for her date, along with her father and annoying, little brother. She heard the doorbell ring. She went over herself again and quickly put her crescent/star necklace on over her kimono and rushed as she grabbed her sandals and ran downstairs and saw Miroku and Sango in the hallway.
“Hey Sango, you look fantastic!” She said as she went up to the couple. Sango was wearing a Dark Green kimono with white butterflies at the fold and two orange tigers fighting at the edge of a river with their reflections showing. Her obi was a pale green and light orange. She also had her hair up but it was a high ponytail. Miroku had the traditional men's' kimono.
“Not as great as you. I love your kimono. And that ornament in your hair.” Sango exclaimed as they both were commenting about each other.
“It's a family treasure. It dates back to my great-great grandmothers' time.” Kagome told them.
“You indeed look fabulous, Kagome. Is Inuyasha here yet?” Miroku asked. “No, but he should be here soon.” They all walked to the living room and sat on the couch. Sango saw how Kagome was acting. She could tell that she was uneasy at this point.
“It will be fine, Kaggie. This will work out. Just watch.” Sango said soothingly.
“You sound so sure.” She said, very unsure herself, with her arms crossed, pacing back and forth.
“She is very tense, Sango. I haven't seen her unsure of anything before.” Miroku whispered to her.
“Her father is about to meet her half-demon boyfriend. She has a right to be uneasy and tense. I would be the same way if I was in her shoes.” Sango whispered back. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, which surprised Sango, but since he wasn't being lecherous at this moment, she let it go and decided to enjoy it. About 10 minutes later, the doorbell rang. All three friends sat up, anxious and nervous, but not as bad as Kagome.
“I'll get it!” She yelled as she ran to the door and stopping herself. `This is it, the moment of truth. Here we go.' She opened the door and saw an unfamiliar figure. He had long black hair, wearing the same thing as Miroku, except the top was different.
“Inuyasha, Is that you?” She asked, as if to make sure that it was him.
“It's me. Like I said, I would look different tonight.” He said reassuring her.
“You look…so different.” She responded, still stunned at the sight before her. `He's just as handsome as when he was a half demon.' Realizing that he was at the door, still standing there, she invited him in.
“Mom, Dad, my date is here!” She yelled. She leaned up and whispered,
“I'm so nervous about this whole thing.”
“I'm nervous too. But don't worry, it will go well.” He responded, realizing that he was shaking out of fear at the moment. After that, her parents walked in, staring at the boy who was standing near Kagome. Sango and Miroku were behind them. Sango was wondering what was going on. Miroku told her that he would explain later. She just nodded and just watched.
“Mom, Dad, this is Inuyasha. Inuyasha, this is my Mom and Dad.” She introduced them with a calm, yet nervous voice. Her father walked up and shook Inuyasha's hand.
“It's a pleasure to meet you, young man.” He said with a small smile.
“Likewise, sir.” Then her mother walked up and did the same. `So far so good. He better not be too hard on him.' Kagome thought as the four walked into the living room. She sat right beside Inuyasha across from her parents. Sango and Miroku were behind them.
Her father began.
“Now, son, if you are to date our daughter, there is to be rules.” Inuyasha gulped nervously, waiting to here her father continued. `He's taking it so well, but he's still shaking.' Kagome looked up from her lap, to Inuyasha, then to her parents.
“First, you must treat her with respect. If you do anything to upset her, then you're going to have to answer to me.” He sounded so strict when he said that. He was now fidgeting and loosening his kimono top. Kagome knew what he was going through at that moment. She knew her father was saying this for her own good, but she knew that Inuyasha wouldn't do anything to hurt her.
“She has to be home by 11:00. Any later…” Her father gave him an “I will hunt you down and make you pay” look. Inuyasha nodded vigorously.
“No problem, sir. 11:00 sharp.” Then they stood up and walked to the door.
“Be careful, Kagome. Have fun!” Her mother said as the two couples were walking out. “Sure thing, Mom, Love you, Mom, Dad!” Kagome yelled out as they walked out and closed the door.
“He seems like a real nice boy, dear. And Kagome likes him a lot.” her Mom told her father.
“Yeah, it may seem, but you can't be too careful.” He responded.
They were walking down the street to where the festival was. They were in silence when Sango spoke out,
“That was really intense. I could hardly breathe!”
“YOU could hardly breathe?! I was holding my breath the whole time! I was scared out my head.” Inuyasha yelled out behind him. Kagome, who was holding his hand, said
“My father is pretty strict and can get protective and it scares people. Sometimes he can scare me, sorry about that, Inu.” She responded as he looked over to the gorgeous angel beside him.
“That's okay, just as long as he doesn't look at me with those eyes again.” He shivered at the look her father was giving him.
“You should have seen Sango's father and the way he looked at me. He kept a close eye over me the whole time I was there. I thought I was going to pee my pants.” Sango, who was beside him as well, said,
“Now you know how angry my father can get if he sees me angry or upset. If he does catch you at anything naughty, prepare for an outer space flight, because he will send you flying.” She looked at him, who was really shaking.
“Like Kagome's father, mine is protective. He will hunt you down.” As soon as she said that, they reached the outer edges of the fall festival. There were lanterns and booths everywhere, with people walking in different directions, looking like they were having fun.
“This going to be great, I never get tired of this festival, right Sango?” Kagome yelled as she led Inuyasha down to the booths.
“You know it, Girl! Right behind you! Let's go, Miroku!” She yelled as she dragged Miroku down with her.
They separated as they walked through the trees and lanterns, looking at what the booths had to offer. They had different merchandise: Great and delicious food, toys for the little ones, fans, kimonos, fans, stuffed animals… Inuyasha and Kagome went to the booths that sold mostly fans and jewelry. They stopped when Kagome saw a beautiful fan. It was Velvet blue with the moon shining on a body with water. The handle had silver birds carved into it. He just looked at her, seeing the cute side of her.
“You want it?” He asked.
“It is nice, but, I couldn't, it's just so-“, She didn't finish her sentence when she saw Inuyasha take the fan and paid for it.
“Why did you do that?” She looked stunned. “I said that it was nice but,-“, He put the fan in her hands and said,
“I saw the way you looked at that fan. I couldn't stand it for another minute.” She starred down at the fan, not knowing what to do. She looked up at him with a cheerful smile. “You didn't have to do that. It is sweet of you, but why?” He wrapped his arms around her and simply said,
“Because you're worth it. That's why.” She now had a tear rolling down her cheek. He gave her a loving kiss on the lips. When they separated, they just stared into each other's eyes.
“Thank you.” was all she could say. `He's no different, even when he's human.' They took each others' hand and walked on. Sango and Miroku were at the other end, Miroku wanting to try all the delicious food.
“You pig. Stop thinking about your stomach and actually do something.” Sango said, getting annoyed. `Seriously, why do I put up with him, I'll never know.' She sighed, as they continued. An hour later, the two couples met up again. Sango and Kagome ran to each other and started showing each other's items. They sat in the park waiting for the great fireworks display.
“How did you fair, man?” Inuyasha asked his friend who was eating some yakisoba.
“All that girl wants to do is shop. I was being dragged everywhere, wanting to eat, not shop. That woman drives me nuts.” Just then, a rock came hurling to his head, knocking him out. Inuyasha put his hand to his head, shaking it.
“Stupid, Miroku, just stupid.” He said. The girls were up the hill a ways, hearing all that he said.
“You know, Sango, you two are getting closer everyday.” Kagome said, grinning at Sango, who was shaking her fist.
“That pervert! Of all the nerve! He-, what did you say?” Stopping and realizing that Kagome said something.
“You two make a cute couple!”
“We DO NOT! He's just a lecher who doesn't know when to keep his hands off me!” She yelled.
“Whatever. I know you, Sango.” Kagome simply said.
“You don't know when to quit nagging, do you?”
“No. I will continue to nag you until you admit it.” She said again.
“It will never happen!” Sango being stubborn said as she folded her arms. `You will eventually.' Kagome thought with a satisfying look.
They went down to the boys and sat next to them. Kagome cuddled with Inuyasha, having her head on his shoulder, with his arm around her waist. Sango on the other hand, sat next to Miroku, keeping to herself. He reached his hand over grabbed her hand. She blushed but accepted his gesture. The fireworks began exploding in the night sky, creating amazing colors, of blue, red, green, yellow, purple, orange, and white. They sat in amazement, looking at the exploding figures in the sky. Kagome just sighed, noticing she was getting tired. She looked up at her love, watching the fireworks. He looked down at her. He leaned in for a deep kiss, but was interrupted when they heard a yelp from behind. They turned around to see Miroku land about 8 feet away from Sango. His touched her butt and paid for it with a hard round-kick.
“WILL YOU EVER LEARN, YOU STUPID IDIOT!?!?” Sango's voice was so loud that everyone in the entire festival heard it. The couple just shook their heads, knowing that their friend was indeed brainless.
It was 10:45 and the two couples were walking back, with the exception of Sango dragging his sorry ass back to her house, still unconscious.
“That was some hit, Sango! You might have caused him to lose part of his brain. But then again, He didn't have a brain when I met him. So you might have caused him to lose his memory.” Inuyasha yelled back at her.
“I hope it did, for his sake!” She yelled back. They walked to the two neighboring houses and Sango stopped at her house to get her stuff.
“I'll be there in a little bit, Kagome.” She saw Sango drag Miroku into her house. Inuyasha walked Kagome to the front door.
“I had a great time, tonight. Thanks again for the fan. I will never forget this night.”
“Me neither. I'm glad that we can go out, now. Your father still scares me, though.” The black-haired, violet eyed, boy looking down at his girl. `She looks so beautiful, tonight. How am I going to tell her?' His thoughts were interrupted when he felt warm lips on his. Kagome pressed into him, with him pushing back down on her, lifting his hand to the back of her head, and making it more passionate.
“Well, I see you guys are having no trouble holding your breath.” They pulled apart to see Sango, watching them.
“Thanks, Sango. Interrupt a perfect moment.” Kagome said, blushing a little. Inuyasha just looked away, also with a light blush of his own. They turned back and said their goodbyes, giving a goodnight kiss, and Inuyasha walked down the steps, waving goodbye to the two girls. They waved back and went into the house.
As soon as they walked in, they were greeted by Kagome's little brother, Souta.
“How can you guys do that, right in front of me? I thought you were going to swallow each other.” He said as he stuck out his tongue and made a gross face.
“Spying on me, were you? Start running runt. You're about to have your feelings hurt!” She dropped her bags and started to chase Souta around, him screaming his head off. Sango just stood there, being entertained.
Inuyasha was having some serious thoughts coursing through his mind as he walked to his car. `I love her, but I can't tell her that I lover her. I know that she has feelings for me, but I can't say it until she says it. Then I'll know for sure. We may be together, but I need to hear her say those three words. Then I'll be complete.'
