The horse's hooves thundered as she rode across the crystal river. Her black hair was flying behind her. Kagome pulled the horse to a halt and stepped down to drink some refreshing water. Kagome pulled off the cloak and laid it on the grassy plain. She waded into the shallow end, cooling off her exhausted body. She sat in the water relaxing, letting the horse capture its breath.

"I've never been this far out of the castle's view alone," speaking to the horse, "It's not as lonely as I suspected it would be."

She pulled up her wet skirt and walked back upon the soft land. She ringed her clothes and pulled cloak back on. Kagome climbed onto the horse's sturdy back. The forest loomed closer as the sun began to set in the horizon.

The trees now completely surrounded the horse and its rider. Kagome pulled her head down lower to escape from the branches slapping her on the face. The water back at the river was refreshing, but now she shivered in her moist garments. The cloak barley contained her warmth. She slowed the horse down and jumped off the side and fell immediately to her knees. Damn my legs fell asleep. Kagome twirled her head around thinking she heard laughter. I must be going crazy already. She pushed herself up and brushed the dirt off her skirt. She turned back around to the horse that helped free her of her past. Kagome took her hand and ran then down the black, silky mane.

"Thank you for ever thing, make it home safely now," telling the creature as she hugged him and it nuzzled her back. She waited to the horse was completely out of her site before she trudged her way on. As the forest become dark, but her mind was on darker matters…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kagome was eight and she was on the stairs watching her mother cry. Her father was standing over her with a gleam in his eye. The argument was over and it looked as thou her mother lost. But the king never lost. Kagome longed to reach out and hug her and tell her it was all right. That she was there for her. But she stayed there crying silently knowing she couldn't help her mother. Not when her father was involved. He had the power to kill them both at the snap at his fingers. She stifled back a sob and opened her pale green eyes long enough to see her father walking towards his daughter. Kagome began to shake fearing he would take out his anger on her, but he didn't even notice his daughter shaking with tear stained cheeks. He just brushed right past her knocking her down the steps and made his way to his chambers, slamming the heavy maple wood door behind him. Sasuke saw Kagome tumble down wood stairs. She leapt up; wiping her lingering tears, and picked up the end of her gown and was by her only daughter's side. Catherine hugged Kagome's small body and comforted her child. Kagome hugged back, thinking she was comforting her weeping mother. Kagome never got the chance to ask her why she was crying, because her father came back.
"Sasuke, get your sorry ass for a queen up these damn stairs before I drag you up here!" Radu's voice bellowed out.
Sasuke pulled away from the warm embrace and trailed her hand around Kagome's fragile chin. She gave Kagome a small kiss on cheek and made her way up the stairs with her head hung down, glancing back at Kagome once last time. That day Kagome noticed the stairs looked even longer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome wiped the tears of regret off her cheeks and pulled the cloak tighter around her. She missed her mother terribly. Her father was often cruel at times. But, she had been brave ever since she was born, taking after her mother. Kagome took after her in most ways. Both women have long, black hair and have the same soft eyes. A sudden growl made Kagome come to a complete stop.
"What was that?"
Kagome quickened her pace into running. She kept going, deeper into the forest trying to escape from the growling monster that plagued her. The sound came again. It was louder. Kagome screamed and put her legs to work. She didn't want to die in a forest alone. She pushed past the limbs that hung low. She tripped fell to her side. Kagome bit back her pain and pulled her body behind a large tree. The growl came again, but Kagome's energy was drained from hunger.
Hunger? She laughed at herself. She was hungry and her stomach was growling. Feeling foolish, she pulled herself up.
I feel so heavy. Kagome leaned back against the tree wondering why she didn't eat this morning.
Oh yeah, the sight of Naruku killed my appetite. She sighed and slides to back to the ground.
"I'll only rest a moment." She told the darkness.
But the world began to fade and the last thing Kagome saw was the image of a boy.
