InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Short Bus ❯ Gym ( Chapter 3 )

There was a volley ball net set up in the middle of the gym. The boys had already done their morning work-outs and divided into teams. This wasn't very hard, seeing as how there were only six kids out there. Kagome walked into the gym and sighed. She knew she was the only girl at the school, but seeing all the guys around really made that fact set it.

Kagome took her spot on the side and held up one of the score cards. Next to her was another rather fat boy with a crew cut, BDU style clothes, glasses, and dog tags. He was holding the other score card standing on the other side of the net.

On one team there was Miroku, a very tall kid, and a skinny kid. The incredibly skinny boy of average height was serving. “Zero all!” he shouted. Kagome looked at the other team. On it was Inuyasha, the Tory kid, and another small boy with a Mohawk and a Slipknot shirt.

Kagome almost laughed. Inuyasha was sitting on the ground, looking in the other direction. But as soon as the ball was served, a very nice serve, he jumped up faster than Kagome could see and smacked the ball. It flew over the net and landed right in between the boy who served and his teammate.

Inuyasha cast Kagome an `I'm-so-cool-its-almost-sickening' kind of look. She bit her lower lip. She was already infatuated with this boy, she could tell. And it was his turn to serve. He took the ball, threw it up in the air a few times, and then without hesitation smashed his hand into it, sending it whizzing threw the air and right into the hole again.

“One nothing,” he called.

By the time it was seven-nothing Inuyasha seemed to want to give the other team a chance. He messed up the serve and, throwing the ball to the other team, promptly sat back down on the ground. Kagome choked back a laugh. It was funny watching him stand up, hit the ball, then sit down.

The ball came over the net and landed next to Mohawk boy who was staring at Kagome.

“Kouga, knock it off!” Inuyasha yelled to the boy with the Mohawk. “Pay attention to the game, not the hot chick on the side lines.”

“Shut the fuck up!” Kouga yelled back. “I wasn't paying her any attention, I was just checking out the score card.”

“And the one holding said score card, eh Marcus,” Miroku added to the skinny boy next to him.

“I heard that!” Kouga went off in a torrent of curses and swears.

“Kouga! Stop that right now. Just because we have a new student doesn't mean you have to act like mister tough guy.” Miss. Peterson reprimanded Kouga.

“Like I care, whatever. I'm leaving.” He stormed off the court and headed towards the doors that they had come in that very morning.

“Um, Kouga, wait!” Kagome called out to him. “It's not that big of a deal. You shouldn't leave.” She tugged at her braid with one hand, the other still clutching the score card.”

He looked at her like he couldn't believe what he was hearing. Yet, it really wasn't that big of a deal. Inuyasha was always an asshole, so maybe he shouldn't leave. “Fine. I'm going to class. But If I'm on off trust I'm leaving.”

Kagome faltered. How could she, just a new kid who held no weight with anyone yet, make a kid she didn't even know control his temper? Even if just a little. Maybe they really had been away from girls too long.

After gym was over, with no other incidents, (and Inuyasha's team winning fifteen to two) everyone headed off to whatever group they were with. Kagome understood the concept of the rotation groups; they had been discussed with her during her little orientation. There were three groups, A, B, and C. She was in group C. There were three classrooms. Mr. Ian taught English, Mrs. Chang taught history, and Miss. Peterson taught science. Math was taught in everyone's home rooms. She would rotate after the New Year. For now Miss. Peterson wanted her to stay in her classroom, so she could get to know her.

She looked to see who was going into Mr. Ian's classroom, where she would go. To her delight Inuyasha was walking there, carrying his binder and point sheet. The point sheets had also been explained to Kagome. You had certain expectations. Some included `being ready for class,' `accept feed back,' `follow directions,' and others like that. Kagome had ten expectations on her point sheet. Some of her unique ones included, `appropriate language,' `hostile sarcasm,' and `boundaries.' You could get anywhere between a zero and three. Three meant you were meeting expectations. Every time you were redirected you lost a point in the given area. There were nine time periods. So Kagome could get a total of 270 points a day. These points were kept track of in a check book each student had. With them you could buy stuff out of the school store. It had things like CD cases, head phones, fancy toiletries, and a million other things.

Kagome picked up her point sheet and filled in all threes for the first two time periods, breakfast and PE. She carried it to Mr. Andy who was standing next to Marcus and Miroku who were rolling the volley ball net into a corner of the gym.

“Would you sign this please?” She handed him the paper.

“Of course. And you did a really good job with Kouga, so I think that deserves some bonus points. How does twenty-five sound?” Mr. Andy asked rhetorically.

“Great, thank you.”

“No, thank you. Kouga never listens to anyone.”

“Kagome!” Miss Peterson was standing in her door way waving to Kagome. “Come on!”

“I'm coming!” She took her point sheet back and jogged over to her homeroom. “So what am I doing today?” She asked when she got there.

“Well, you can just goof off until we get to know you. I understand you're taking some online courses?”

“Yeah, I'm taking English III and American History. Well and Lifetime fitness, but I only have like seven assignments left in that one.” Kagome counted off on her fingers.

“Okay, well it takes a little while to get set up on the computer, so we'll also start that after the New Year.” She put a hand on Kagome's shoulder.

At least it wouldn't be too long. Today was the 13th. And winter break started on the 22nd. That gave her the rest of this week and half of next to chill. Of course, this school was so easy; she could chill like the whole time she was here.

Bunnie: Well, we meet Kouga…

Kagome: So he already likes me and so do Tory and Miroku and Inuyasha.

Bunnie: Marcus likes you too; actually all the guys in the school do… Except Chris, whom you haven't met yet, but he's gay.

Inuyasha: I really think you should change the names… If anyone of the people you're writing about read this, they'll be so pissed at you.

Bunnie: Oh come on, like my teacher, Miss. Peterson, is really going to read this. Puh-leaze. Or any of the people I'm basing Kagome, Miroku, Inuyasha, and Kouga are.

Inuyasha: Be careful…

Bunnie: Sorry for the spelling errors. If anyone wants to proof read it and e-mail me the mistakes, I'd be grateful. Please review!
