InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Short Bus ❯ More Phone Calls ( Chapter 12 )

Bugging Inuyasha constantly to go with her to the Valentine's Dance wasn't really getting Kagome anywhere. She would ask him on the phone almost daily to go, but all he would reply with was a half-hearted maybe.
The day before Valentine's Day came around and Kagome begged her parents to take her shopping. Her father finally agreed and they went to Wal-Mart. Kagome picked out a heart shaped box full of chocolate, this cute Chinese take-out looking box also filled with chocolate, and a large box of Pocky.
“That should be enough for him,” Kagome said to her father. He simply shrugged his shoulders in an apathetic manner and got into the car.
While Kagome was sleeping a large snow storm blew into the area. When she awoke, there were several inches of snow on the ground. Kagome looked out her window aghast, `please God say there was school today'. She bolted out of her room, still in her oversized t-shirt and slippers. The TV was already on, tuned into the news. Kagome held her breath as the closures and delays went by. Here it was! Her school district was only on a two hour delay.
Kagome threw her fist in the air and let out a hearty `w00t.' Covering her mouth immediately after she waited for it.
“Keep it down out there!” Her Father yelled. He didn't have to leave for work for an hour, and he liked his beauty sleep.
“Yeah whatever,” she mumbled. Kagome got herself a bowl of cereal and soy milk. Just because she wasn't vegan yet, didn't mean she shouldn't try.
The bus ride was uneventful, save for Miroku asking for a Valentine's Day kiss and him teasing her relentlessly about the chocolate for Inuyasha.
When she finally got to school Kagome saw that the other busses had dropped off their kids and left already. Kagome darted in the main doors with Miroku right on her heels. She signed in at the office and headed to Miss. Petersons room. Miroku went in a different direction, towards Mr. Ian's room.
On the way she passed the lunch lady, whom she had never spoken to. Kagome didn't even know her name. Not thinking twice about Mrs. Lunch Lady, it was no surprise that Kagome was shocked when the lunch lady put a card on top of Kagome's pile of goodies.
“Um… Thanks?” Kagome tried.
“It's not from me, he asked me to give it to you.” With that she was bustled her way back to the kitchen.
Kagome entered the classroom and, standing a little out of the way, looked at the back of Inuyasha's head for a second before walking up to him, tapping him on the shoulder, and nonchalantly handing over the ten dollars worth of yummies.
Inuyasha raised his eyebrows in surprise, but didn't say anything. Miss. Peterson glared at the pile but no one saw her. Kagome sat at her spot on the table and surreptitiously looked at her card. It had a Starbucks coupon in it and said, `next time you drink a treat from Starbucks, think of me.' It was signed Wolf boy. It also had slipknot stars all over and a phone number.
Kagome was confused. Who was wolf boy? She knew that there was that one kid who liked Slipknot. What was his name? Kouga? Yes, that was it. He was okay looking. A little scrawny, but then again, Kagome adored skinny boys. However, he was also a tad bit shorter than her.
There was no way to confirm who gave her the card. Unless… she could ask Miss. Peterson. What if she got mad at her? Kagome didn't see why she would. It was Valentine's Day and everything. She waited until everyone left the room for gym. Then Kagome walked up to Miss. Peterson.
“Um… Excuse me?” She asked timidly.
“Yes Kagome?” Miss. Peterson seemed a bit curt in her reply.
“Could you tell me who this is, based on hand writing?” Kagome handed the card to Miss. Peterson.
Her curtness evaporating, she replied, “It's Kouga. He was a wolf for Halloween a few years back, and he wore his costume to school. He was the only one who did, and so everyone calls him wolf boy.”
Kagome didn't know how to feel. Why would Kouga like her if he knew that she was with Inuyasha? And she was pretty sure that everyone in the school knew about it. Of course, maybe no one knew about it other than Miroku. Inuyasha always said how they weren't really together. He still would talk about Kikyo.
One night Kagome had snuck onto her parents computer, (her computer had a bunch of parental controls,) and looked at Inuyasha's Myspace. One of the first things had seen was his blogs, well she saw them after the big “Kikyo is my snuggle butterfly” banner. Most of the blogs were just poetry but then Kagome had seen one entitled `I love you more.” Checking it out she had felt almost sick. The whole page was an MSN chat conversation. And only about ten different words were used. The main four being the title of the blog. Kagome had checked out Kikyo's page and found, to her dismay, that Kikyo was very pretty, and had a rather small chest. (Inuyasha would constantly make fun of Kagome because of her 34 double D chest. According to Inuyasha the best size was a 30 to 32 A or B.)
Kagome didn't tell anyone else about the card for the rest of the uneventful day. Well almost. When she got on the bus she was immediately accosted by Miroku.
“Kouga wanted me to give you this.” He said, handing her a note.
Kagome looked at it and couldn't help but smile. It was one of those `Will you go out with me: check one.' With the yes and no boxes.
“So what are you going to tell him?” Miroku brought her back to reality.
“I don't know. Maybe I'll call him and see what happens.”
Later that night, that was exactly what Kagome did. Trembling out of fear of what Inuyasha would do if he found out Kagome dialed Kouga's number and waited. By the third ring, Kagome was ready to hang up, but then a hasty voice answered. “Hello?”
“Hi may I speak with Kouga please?”
“This is him. Is this Kagome?” The voice quickly gained some confidence.
“Yeah. Miroku gave me your card and I thought I might as well call you. Although I'm kind of nervous about how Inuyasha will react if he finds out.” Kagome was more than nervous, but if she went on about how it felt more like panic, she might sound pretty bad.
“'Finds out'?” Kouga sounded confuse. “Find out about what?”
“The fact that I'm calling you,” Kagome replied with an `how-could-you-not-know?' kind of tone.
“Ah it's okay, I won't tell him. And you know he might be okay with it. I mean I always hear him talking about that Kikyo chick. I mean I knew he at least wanted to get with you, but I'm pretty sure he's serious about being with Kikyo.”
Kagome frowned and clenched her teeth. So Inuyasha only wanted to get with her? That couldn't be true. She though about all the conversations she had had with him. Then she realized Kouga was kind of right. Inuyasha mainly had always talked about how he wanted to fuck Kagome, and that was usually as deep as their conversations went. But Kagome didn't want to believe that. She wouldn't!
“Kagome? You still there?” Kouga broke into Kagome's thought train.
“Yeah, but look I got to go. I just need some time to think.”
“Oh okay, see you at school!”
“Bye.” Kagome hung up the phone. She walked to the kitchen and put the phone in the cradle. She had a lot of thinking to do.
School was slowly shifting from something Kagome adored and couldn't wait for to something that she slowly gained more apprehension about. Inuyasha was gradually becoming more of a focus in Kagome's mind. Unfortunately, the definition of obsession in one dictionary was a preoccupation with an unrealistic idea, and Kagome had many unrealistic ideas about her and Inuyasha.
Did that make her obsessed with him?

Bunnie: Thank you my reviewers! Sorry for the long spaces between updates. I went home and couldn't access my story chapters, so I couldn't do anything for a week. But I promise to work harder.
Inu: She's obsessed with me? Creepy.
Kagome: What's going to happen now? Kouga likes me and so does Inuyasha. But Inuyasha is hotter but more bastard-ish.
Bunnie: A lot will happen in the next chapter. It'll be long I think. Maybe I better start working on it. BTW, my birthday was the 3rd so y'all should review for my birthday present.
Kagome: Yep, review.
