InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Silent Protector ❯ Not Worthy ( Chapter 2 )
Inuyasha walked through the darkened alley and up to a door. He slid the key into the lock and turned it, opening the door into a modest two floor apartment.
Shippo, the roommate sat at the table eating a bowl of ramen. Shippo sometimes helped Inuyasha protect, but most of the time he stayed home. "How did it go Inuyasha? Is she safe? Why are you just coming back now?"
"She's fine runt. Now get to bed, it's eleven o'clock at night. I just stayed in a tree for a little while." Shippo groaned but, obeyed. Inuyasha went into his room and into the attached bathroom. He turned on the shower and stood under the water, his arms out in front of him bracing agaisned the wall.
It's a good thing I found her when I did. The great dormant Miko with powers beyond comprehension. I have to protect her. All life depends on it… even if it is the end of me. I can't allow her to see me. I'm not worthy. I'm a dirty half breed. Most Mikos try to kill me for that. Who says that she will be any different. Besides… I'm not worthy no matter which way it goes. Half breeds are never worthy. We are always at fault. We are always in the way and we are always to blame, wither or not we did it. Inuyasha sighed. Thus is the life of the hanyou. I can't let this be like last time. I can't fall for another Miko. It will only bring more unhappiness. I won't have another Kikyo.
He shut off the water and got out, looking at himself in the mirror.
Not human. Not demon. Just… not worth it.
He sighed and changed into boxers before getting into his bed.

With Kagome - Next Morning
===============
Saturday.
God I was waiting for today. I'll meet Sango at the mall. Maybe tell her about last night. Why wouldn't he let me see him. I saw the picture. Does he know? Maybe not. Oh, well. At least I know I'll be safer from now on.
Kagome sighed as she grabbed her keys. "Ready to go Souta?"
"Yah."
"Come on."
================
Souta had gone to the movies which was the next floor up, leaving Kagome to sit in food court. Waiting for Sango who was running only a little bit late. Nothing new by her standards. She fumbled around with her chopsticks for a moment before putting them down.
"You seem down." Sango said, coming up behind her. Like a love sick puppy dog, Miroku was yawning at her heals.
"I am a little. After you guys left last night Inuyasha was there. He even talked to me… but he wouldn't let me see him. It sounded like he was… ashamed." Kagome said, not looking up from the spicy chicken in the take away carton.
Miroku stood up. "I'll leave you to talk about your demons. Want me to get you something to eat, Sango?"
"Just a slice from Tony's." She said, shoving a twenty into his hands. "And get yourself something on me." Then noticing the look on his face. "And not like that."
Miroku stalked off in the general direction of the pizza place.
"Alright. So you say he sounded ashamed. I think I can answer that one."
"Really? Why."
"Well. It's pretty well known that you are a Miko, I mean lets face it, it's the cause of most of your problems. Maybe because he is a hanyou he feels that he doesn't deserve to be in your presence, yet feels an urge to protect you. When you think about it, it's not to far fetched. Hanyous never really were that accepted, in any time."
Kagome nodded, just staring down at her food.

Across the food Court with Miroku

Miroku slipped Sango's twenty into his pocket as he sat at a table. The table was occupied by a black haired man who was wearing a red shirt with some blue jeans. He appeared to be eating the same chicken as Kagome was.
"So, you feel that you are not worthy." Miroku stated. Looking at the man who finally looked up at him. When he didn't respond to him Miroku continued. "Inuyasha, your concealment spell doesn't fool me. I've known you long enough."
"Well if it isn't Miroku. Haven't seen you in a long time. Still trailing after Sango?"
"All too well."
"Sango told her about me… didn't she."
Miroku only nodded before stating. "She showed the picture from the net."
Inuyasha groaned and leaned back in his chair.
"Great."
"I know what you are thinking Inuyasha. You don't want Kagome to be another Kikyo incident."
"What did you just say?" The hanyou nearly yelled.
"You herd me. You never had a problem showing your face before. You're falling for her and you don't want to."
"Speaking of faces, shut yours before I shut it for you."
"Still violent I see. How is Shippo?"
"He's around here somewhere."
Miroku sighed. "I need to get back before they suspect me… well Kagome anyway."
He stood for a moment before turning back to Inuyasha. "This won't be another Kikyo. Kagome is different. Very different."
===
"I guess it makes sense Sango. I just wish I could see him for real. He looks so…"
"Cute?" Sango guessed. A smile on her face.
"I'm that obvious, huh?"
"A sign would be less subtitle."
"Right." Kagome said. Tossing her chopsticks on the table and sitting back.
Miroku walked up with the food. Just as two security guards went running by.
Sango looked over. "I wonder what's going on."
Kagome didn't bother looking away from the glass ceiling. Which was a good thing because what she saw tipped her off to what was going on.
"There he is!" Kagome said, pointing at a retreating red figure into a crowd of gathering people.
Sango looked at Miroku who only nodded. They followed Kagome into the crowd following the red figure.
When they got there they saw Souta being held agaisned a wall by one of the boys from her school.
"So you're the younger brat of that bitch from school."
Souta didn't even move. He was too scared. "If I can't make her pay, you'll have to do."
He threw Souta across the hall just as security got through the crowds. But Souta didn't hit a wall. He was stopped mid-air by a smaller boy who grabbed onto his shirt collar. The older boy broke away from security, going after Souta until Kagome got in his way.
"Leave him alone. It's me you want."
"Fine. I don't care which one of you I get."
He went for Kagome, and she closed her eyes in fear, but stopped short by a foot. Looking right at her with a really scared look on his face. The crowd seemed to be watching in awe as well.
When Kagome didn't feel the hit she opened her eyes. The kid was frozen in terror. Kagome turned around to see the figure in the red Kimono. His back to her, but he had his head turned with a smirk very apparent on his face, that was somewhat hidden by the silver hair. Kagome looked at the ground and saw the two younger kids looking at him too.
"It's… it's him." Kagome said under her breath in bewilderment.
====
Kagome laid awake in bed, hoping he would visit her again tonight. She wasn't disappointed.
"Forgive me for I have disgraced myself, Miko." His voice came from behind her. She didn't turn this time, she only sat up and looked at the wall.
"And how did you disgrace yourself, Inuyasha."
"You saw me."
"I get it now. You feel that because your are a hanyou, you are not worthy of my eyes."
Kagome stood up and turned. She saw that he was on one knee, a sword on his belt. He was looking at the ground as if his head was bowed expecting some kind of punishment.
"Yes. You saw me. I will except my punishment."
Kagome walked around her bed and up to him. "Stand up."
He did. But he didn't look up. Kagome took her hand to his chin and lifted it up.
She finally got to see the golden eyes of her silent protector. God he looks so cute.
She reached up to touch the ears and saw him flinch like she was about to hurt him. When she rubbed his ears he looked happy, yet, confused.
"You will not punish me?"
"Why would I?" Kagome chuckled. "You protect me and my little brother. I don't see a reason to punish you."
"But you saw me. I am not worthy of such eyes."
Kagome sighed. "Stop saying that. Anyone as good as you is worthy of my eyes."
He finally looked at her. "That's better." Kagome said. Then she suddenly hugged him close. "Thank you. No one has ever done that for me." Inuyasha was taken back a little.
Let's go back
Back to the beginning
Back to when the earth, the sun, the stars all aligned.
Cause perfect
Didn't feel so perfect
Trying to fit a square into a circle was no life
I define
She is crying. Inuyasha says in his head.
"Don't cry. Just call anytime… I'll be there." He whispered. She didn't stop she just grabbed onto him tighter. "You don't know how long I've wanted someone who would stand up for me. Granted, there's Sango and Miroku… but they never went as far as you have."
Let the rain fall down
And wake my dreams
Let it wash away
My sanity
Cause I want to feel the thunder
I want to scream
Let the rain fall down
I'm coming clean
I'm coming clean
After fifteen minutes, Kagome had stopped crying and her grip had gone loose.
She has fallen asleep in my arms. I can't do this… I can't fall for her. But yet… I am.
Inuyasha slowly laid her into her bed and covered her with the large comforter. He jumped onto the windowsill taking one last look before jumping out.
I'm shedding
Sheddingevery color
Trying to find a pigment of truth beneath my skin
Cause different
Doesn't feel so different
Keep going on
It's gets better than always staying in
Let the rain fall down
And wake my dreams
Let it wash away
My sanity
Cause I want to feel the thunder
I want to scream
Let the rain fall down
I'm coming clean
I'm coming clean
Inuyasha jumped from rooftop to rooftop heading for his home.
Rain fall down (Come clean)
Rain fall down (Coming clean)
Rain fall down (Come clean)
Let the rain fall
Let the rain fall
I'm coming clean
Let the rain fall down
And wake my dreams
Let it wash away
My sanity
Cause I want to feel the thunder
I want to scream
Let the rain fall down
I'm coming clean (Let the rain fall down)
I'm coming clean (And wake my dreams)
I'm coming clean (Let it wash away)
I'm coming clean (my sanity)
Inuyasha jumped to the tallest building so far. He stopped there, climbing to the top of the radio town on it. He stood there as a crash of thunder and a flash or lightning came behind him. He folded his arms as he looked over the city below.
This is my domain.
Cause I want to feel the thunder
I want to scream
Let the rain fall
Let the rain fall
Let the rain fall down
Hmm, oh
Let's go back
Back to the beginning
Kagome slept peacefully that night, knowing that at the call of his name, he would be there.
