A/n: You really weren't expecting that, were you guys? I hope it surprised you, because it was a random burst of inspiration for some reason. I never had planned it. See? See, even I don't know what's coming! Oo, the suspense! YOU HAVE NO REAL ANSWERS! NO ONE KNOWS THE TRUTH! *happy squealy excited dance*

I'm excited too.

Zetsuii: I thought about the pregnant thing, you're right, but eh... oh well ^_^. *blush* I'm happy you enjoyed the lemon ^^.

LadyWolf: Oh my, I missed you! Your poem, yet again, made my heart flutter. You seem to speak the words I can't, and they fit my life well. Kudos :). Hope your computer is better soon.

Inuyashaloverr: Of course I did, and yes I am a brilliant arch-nemisis, am I not? *covers mouth with a hand* Hohoho! *crinkles eyebrow* That was my evil laugh. *waves hands* Anyway! When it comes down to it, I am the same. I like to SEE what I'm reading, which some authors go WAY to far, in... well, novels, I mean. "The tiny grains of the wood were red cherry wood... little tiny blemishes scarring the perfect surface... though not entirely perfect... mostly, I mean, but on one side it had been burned in a fire... from way back, a memory no one had of it... purchased in a thrift store... and blah..." You get my drift? I like visual detail, and I saw the scene of him sitting there on that car, so perfectly... damn, I should draw it. I could just see the way the night lights lit him up, and the way he just moved to her. It was so awesome, it was like a movie. ... enough rambling. You evil reviewers, always getting me to ramble! Like you want to hear all of what Luna has to say! Puuu...

Anyway, anyway, back to work. I took a small break to read Wheezambu's 'Possession', what a squeaky clean dark fic. I feel like it makes me look fluffy... I enjoy fluffy. But she rocks, kudos to her! * Two Thumbs Up*

In case you all are anything like me, fangirldom runs skin deep. Anyone remember Ookami-chan, 'Turnabout is Fair Play'? I found her! (After tons of searching for the lemon chapters of that story... dang FF.net... *pout*.) She's on live journal, and so is Miss Wheezambu... I hope I'm spelling that right *sweatdrop*, and if anyone would like the link, speak up and I'll post it :D!

The only thing with Ookami-chan, is she has an age filter. You HAVE to be eighteen, don't you kids be getting her into trouble now! *frown and tsks* ...ahem.

As that is WAY more than enough chatter, on to the story!

Warning!: Lemon goodness ahead.

Chapter XXXV: It Only Sleeps

Eyelashes fluttered against her cheeks, teardrops lacing themselves there, unwelcome there... She had stopped breathing, too bewildered to even move. She laid there like a deer in the headlights, still under the influence of his previous spell, magnetized to him. After a tense infinity of silence, she murmured, stuttering her answer...

"I... I d-dont know w-what to say..."

"Say yes," was his quick and ready reply.

Something inside her broke, while something else exploded with joy. Absolute fear and disbelief and the truest happiness she ever felt all rolled around in her stomach, each fighting for dominance. Tears leaked slowly from her eyes, and they were quickly kissed away.

"I-I..."

Inuyasha seemed to sense her internal battle, and he spoke softly to her, "I know it's sudden Kagome... I know you weren't expecting it... I know, if you felt anything like I did, and have, you feel like we don't deserve it. I feel like I don't deserve it, but I know I love you more than Kami himself could..." At his deep admission, Kagome felt her cheeks heat...

Knowing all too well it was the truth...

Knowing all too well what it felt like...

"...and I was thinking... I was thinking, if we both kept on this way, we'd only be holding ourselves back... in our own insecurities, and I know... I know I never, ever, ever want to let you go."

Word by word, explanation by explanation, Kagome's sobs increased. She coughed and sputtered, beginning to shake like a timid child. She buried her face into his shoulder and wailed, allowing him to rock her like a terrified infant who needed to be consoled.

"And I know it hurts, that we have felt this way for far too fucking long... and I want to take that away. I want to have a real future with you Kagome, a real family and a real life and all those stupid things normal people have. I want that, and I never thought I could deserve it, and never wanted it, until you came back into my life. And all I knew was you were the reason I breathed, and became the reason I lived, and got up morning after pointless morning. You were the reason I didn't just give up and die..."

Kagome hiccuped, a quiet request emerging from her lips, "P-please s-stop... I d-don't... d-deserve..."

Inuyasha silenced her with another heart-wrenching kiss, and she tangled her hands in his hair. She tried to convey everything she felt into him, try to get him to understand... she just couldn't deserve it, despite everything he said...

I'd just drag him down... I couldn't be so selfish as to force him to be with me that way...

"Kagome... If you tell me no, you're only going to kill me. It'll be slow and suffering and I know I won't survive... not without you... not this time..." Inuyasha whispered slowly to her, and she couldn't deny him... she felt the same... whether it was selfish or not, she needed him to breathe.

"...I will... Inuyasha... I'll marry you," she said quietly, shaking, afraid...

And so full of joy.

Inuyasha furrowed his brow... and pulled her into him in such a tight hug she felt he might be trying to meld with her...

And to her own quiet amazement, he did something he did not do often in front of her.

He quietly sobbed into her hair as he stroked her back as if he was trying to reassure her all along.

Trying to always save me, aren't you... Inuyasha...?

And she held him, knowing more than ever with him was exactly where she wanted to be.

~~~*~~~
Sesshomaru hadn't missed the shy way the teenagers of his household had been looking at each other for the past couple of days, the way they held quiet smiles, sharing a moment only the two of them understood.
Though he wasn't one to pry... he wasn't used to seeing them act like lovesick school children.
Watching them both with experienced eyes, he didn't miss the heated looks Inuyasha sent her... or the blush that took hold of Kagome's cheeks...
...something's happened...
Narrowing his eyes suspiciously... normally he wouldn't have minded, but after all the serious discussion only days prior... he would have thought they would have taken it into more consideration. They were being irresponsible, playing this game of cat and mouse with each other.
Quite frankly, it almost sickened him.
And he was definitely most relieved when Kagome stood up to announce that she was to take a shower. The glaze in Inuyasha's eyes seemed to deepen, as he followed her movements across the room like an addict suffering withdrawls. She, on the other hand, made sure to hold his attention, making her movements as seductive as possible while remaining discrete.
Shaking his headly in thinly veiled disgust, though he was ignored, he left out a breath of relief as she headed up the stairs and disappeared. Inuyasha's eyes still lingered where she had been previously, etched with a lecherous hunger that made Sesshomaru's insides squirm.
He did not want to connect his little brother who was more like a son with any sexual connotation if at all possible.
Pushing that thought aside, he returned to the problem at hand, and he addressed it in a very forward way.
It was time to stop playing.
He walked over to his brother, who still persisted in ignoring his presence-which alone was enough to irk Sesshomaru- and smacked him upside the backside of his head.
He was answered with a surprised growl, twin sets of fire glaring up at him as Inuyasha's hand flew to the offended area.
"What the fuck?!"
Sesshomaru simply set his eyes upon his brother like a glacier, allowing a demonic anger to overcome him. He knew then parental rouse. His father had taught it to him well.
"I should be asking the same of you."
His clueless brother looked victimized, as though he were innocent of any acts. Of course, every teenager was the victim, weren't they?
"What the hell are you talking about?!"
Narrowing his eyes at his otouto, he protrayed his utmost seriousness by crossing his arms and hardening his icy glare.
"What have you done with Kagome?"
He brother seemed to choke suddenly, looking as if Sesshomaru had just slapped him. Inuyasha's face first paled, then flushed, anger filled his features fully.
"None of your damn business!"
Sesshomaru grabbed Inuyasha by the shirt and jerked him to his feet, bringing his brother face to face with him.
"If it concerns anyone under this roof, then yes, it is my business."
Inuyasha blanched, seeming to be struck dumb.
Sesshomaru had never pulled that card before.
You live under my roof, and must play by my rules.
And apparently, Inuyasha didn't know how to react to it.
"I... we..."
Throwing his brother down back upon the couch, Sesshomaru straightened his shirt carefully.
"I don't need details but let me make this one thing clear. If you do anything to distract her, or yourself, from the very dire situation at hand, I will make sure to remind you of it in the most painful of ways."
Inuyasha snorted at this, seeming to not take the threat seriously.
Sesshomaru growled, putting his face into his otouto's once more and hissed in a low voice, "And you'd better believe I'll follow through, especially when your lives are in danger. This is one thing I will not let you fuck up on, Inuyasha."
He watched as Inuyasha's eyes went wide, as Sesshomaru stood regally and straightened out his suit. Narrowing his eyes down at his otouto, he said, "Stay out of trouble. I have to go to the office today, and I will be out late. Don't do anything stupid."
Before he could even come back with a sharp retort, Inuyasha was glaring at a closed front door.
Damn it all...
Standing angrily, Inuyasha strutted toward the stairs and looked up them with a wicked idea.
He could use some cheering up... and he was sure Kagome could, too.
Grinning devilishly, he made his way to the bathroom where the shower was still running.
~~~*~~~

Kagome's eyes fluttered against the downpour of cold water that caressed its way down her shoulders and along her breasts. Inuyasha's body was flush against her, grabbing at her legs to lift her up higher as he growled into her throat, pouding her against the tile in the shower.

Her fingers had tangled themselves permenantly in his hair, her voice lost long ago to the indescribable way he made her feel. It seemed as if noise did it no justice.

Her hazy mind vaguely wondered what had possessed him, as she was ready to step out of the shower... he had all but attacked her, claiming her body and soul so thoroughly that she felt as if he had come to own all of her...

Pulling his head closer to her, his heated kisses warming her flesh under the cool liquid downpour, her thighs clenched around his waist and her ankles dug into the flesh of his lower back.

Small keening noises issued from her throat, as she slid her eyes closed to the feeling of the warmth inside her, filling her so blissfully full. She doubted she could ever feel another man belong there the way he did... and she knew in her heart for the rest of her life there would never be another.

She wanted it that way.

Tilting her head further away from him, she felt him trail those heated lip along her throat, which convulsed at the contact. Swallowing hard, her back arched off the tile to grind further into those hips that pumped her ravenously.

That tightness was there, that delicious feeling of near completetion, and he had been making her dangle there helplessly everytime she came close, slowing as if to prolong their love making each acccount.

As she was addicted to his attentions, she could hardly complain. It was as if he needed to be inside her, reassured by her presence, and she was willing to give it to him... but with the way his growling deepened, as he pressed more fully into her, she could tell he was close.

Squeezing her eyes shut tightly, the coiling was becoming unbareable, that need to be fulfilled dominating as she squeezed her legs together she wondered if she might break his ribs.

She felt him slam into her one final time, grabbing the back of her head to pull her closer to him, cradling her being against him as he rocked his completion deeply into her. She shuddered her own release, wrapping her arms around his shoulders to hold him close as she whimpered.

After a moment of that satisfied silence, she felt him slide out of her and press a soft kiss to her temple. He set her down in the shower and turned the water off. She stood there shivering, the cold air setting goosebumps to her sensitized skin.

Inuyasha wasted no time in grabbing a fluffy towel and tossing it over her damp head, beginning to rub out the moisture with the same loving attention a mother gives to her child. Warmth filled Kagome's heart, a soft smile lighting her features as she closed her eyes and imagined... what it might be like if..

...if Inuyasha and I had a family...

Her heart clenched... never before had she dared imagine it, but now... his words so filled with promise just days before...

...I want a real future with you too... Inuyasha...

Her eyes slid open as she looked up at him lovingly, standing there in silence as he wrapped the fluffy towel around her and smacked her bottom playfully. "Get going to the room."

Kagome squeaked, jumping slightly at the unexpected contact as Inuyasha smirked mischeviously at her.

Shooting him a dirty look, Kagome sauntered off as he said. She hardly paid attention to the small trail left behind her, sighing deeply as she flopped upon their bed and didn't fight the smile that once again took her over.

She was happy.

But when she lifted her head to look at Inuyasha, expecting to see the same glow on his own face that had been there previously... it wasn't there.

Instead, there was a stern look, a distracted one at that as he closed the bedroom door and continually towelled at his own hair... not looking at her.

The smile that plastered her face previously fell just as quickly, and she became concerned.

"What's wrong?"

Inuyasha lifted golden hues to her, the same ones that had been so hard to read recently, and Kagome could have sworn she saw desperation lying somewhere deep within them.

"...we need to talk."

Sitting up hastily, Kagome's heart lurched as Inuyasha dropped the towel on the floor and kicked it to the corner. As he opened one of the dresser drawers, he grabbed a pair of sweats and pulled them on.

She didn't miss the tension in his muscles, the way his shoulders strained at the quick movements... the way his brows lowered and he avoided eye contact.

A sudden fear, a small doubt suddenly seeded its way into her heart...

Is... is he going to take back the proposal...?

Kagome's face fell, and her eyes wandered to the ground, suddenly so sure that was the cause of his discontentment.

...did... I make him angry...?

Furrowing her brows, she lowered her gaze further as her hair fell over her shoulder in a wet mass, hiding her face from Inuyasha's gaze.

...or maybe... he finally figured it out...

Kagome felt a small tear in her heart, the rapid beating slowing to a dull thud in her chest, the pressure twisting and snapping, and a familiar feeling filled her...

...I don't deserve it... I'm filthy, just so dirty... I don't deserve his love...

His soft voice pierced her darkness like a ray of light, bringing her quickly back to him. "Kags..."

She lifted her eyes quickly, turning to look at him as her heart picked up pace again, racing as if she had been running forever.

"I'm sorry!"

Inuyasha looked baffled, his eyebrows shooting into his bangs at her random apology.

"What for?"

Kagome twisted her hands together, fidgeting as she sought for an answer she didn't even know.

...What have I done to even be sorry?

"...if... I made you upset, in anyway... I'm sorry..."

The thought of displeasing him... she couldn't stand it.

He stared at her a moment, as if trying to figure out something and he shook his head moments later, simply chuckling at her.

Angry indignance came over her at the sound.

"You have nothing to be sorry about Kags... you're perfect..."

And just like that, the angry fled from her body, leaving a tingling pleasure behind in its wake...

He... thinks... I... am perfect...?

Becoming shy, Kagome wrung her hands in the towel that still hung over her body immodestly, and she looked away from Inuyasha.

She knew she must be blushing.

"...then, what's wrong, Inu...?"

Hearing him release a breath of deep tension, she watched his feet move heavily as he made his way to her, and sat down next to her on the bed.

"...Kags... when I passed out the other day...," he began... but he seemed unsure, as he ran a frustrated hand through his hair.

It was a new thing he developed, when he didn't seem to know what to do, or the words to say...

"I...I saw Kikyou. Like you have..." his admission left her gasping. He had never seen her before... had he?

"...long story short, she told me some things that are hard... that I really don't like..."

Swallowing hard, Kagome felt sweat bead upon her brow as she placed a hand on his knee in an attempt to be reassuring... Though she wasn't sure how effective it was, seeing as that same hand was trembling.

"...what did she say?..."

Inuyasha sighed and looked her straight in the eye, holding her gaze all too seriously.

"...I didn't want to tell you... but I think it's too important... I... " his voice became gruff, as if he stopped a thought, and began another.

"...she said... that the most important thing we have to do is find the Shikon no Tama..."

Kagome drew in a deep breath. Kikyou had told her the same thing.

"But... what is it...?"

Inuyasha shook his head, cutting her off. "I'll explain everything after... But first, I need to... warn you... I have to."

Kagome felt dread wash over her. That age-old fear she knew so well, the same one she felt when she saw him...

She tried vehemently to deny it, even before the words fell from Inuyasha's lips.

"...Kikyou... said Onigumo was Naraku... and..."

She felt like a rabbit trapped in a wolf's paws... being gnawed at by sharp fangs...

"...that he was after you... and that..."

...how can there be any more than that....?

Kagome wanted him not to say anymore, but she knew he was trying to keep her safe...

"...in the end, Kagome, you have to be the one to kill Naraku."

Kagome knew she was that rabbit, who tried desperately to kick at the wolf who held her down, who was ten times stronger than she was, who was hungry and ravenous with thirst for her flesh.

She knew that because she felt the wolf tearing at her, baring down upon her like a death sentence looming in the air.

The one thing she was most afraid of.

The one thing she most wanted to get away from.

The one thing she thought she could finally forget.

...was back to haunt her instead.
