Chapter 20
Rescued

Climbing up the steep ravine, Sesshomaru and Shippo stopped abruptly, do to an ear-piercing scream. The sound was not only a woman but there was a notable baritone sound mixed in as well. Sesshomaru widened his eyes, `Could it be them?' He needed to be sure. Grabbing Shippo by the collar he yanked him towards his body, “Hold on!” he demanded.

“What the…” Shippo yelped, as he grabbed on to Sesshomaru's arm, tightly.

Using his demonic energy, he formed himself into a white-like transparent sphere. With this, he could accomplish great speeds, although he couldn't use his power for very long; for it would deplete him of his energy. Being out in the jungle, he needed all his strength.

Shippo clung to Sesshomaru, for dear life, since they weren't even on the ground anymore. “Why didn't you do this before? We could have been up that hill in no time.”

Sesshomaru groaned slightly. He was well over seven hundred years old, and he couldn't just exactly go gallivanting around in a sphere-flying over the city. That sure wouldn't be good for the locals to see. He was still young by demon standards. Over the centuries, he didn't need to rely on his power as much, so he didn't know how long of his demonic energy he would consume.

Yet, he still didn't answer the kit, he needed to concentrate. He just growled, and looked around.

Shippo just snorted, when Sesshomaru didn't answer him, so instead he took in the scenery. The canopy of trees went on for miles, even beyond his exceptional eyesight. However, there was a break where there were no trees just the sound of a river could be heard. Within seconds, he was over the river. They were about to land on the side of the bank, “Why here?” again, there was no response. He grunted and steadied his feet for the oncoming ground.

Sesshomaru's nose was twitching. There was blood, human blood that he could smell. He observed the surrounding area as he watched Shippo slowly walk toward the cliff. His eyes narrowed, when he caught something blue snagged on a fallen branch, in between two giant rocks. Curious he walked up the trail, moving away the branches that hindered his path.

Coming closer, he noticed it was a body. The body was still fresh, considering he wasn't bloated. “Shippo!” he yelled, he couldn't believe it was an officer. `Why would the police be all the way out here? Was this the screaming I heard?' he shook his head, negatively. `No, it was a woman's voice I heard.'

Shippo slowly approached the slippery edge. He needed to be careful even being a demon; he could still get hurt if he was to fall. He would survive, but it would slow the journey down a day or two. Only to repair any broken bones; he was sure to have if he were to fall. Looking down he could see where the large waterfall, splashed into a bluish-green lagoon. The sight was breathtaking. He was about to turn away when he heard his name being called; he was going to respond except something caught his eye. There was something white floating within the lagoon. “Sesshomaru, what's that, in the lagoon? I can't make it out.”

“What?” Sesshomaru asked, as he grabbed the arm of the deceased, pulling him out of the river. The man's face was unrecognizable. `He must have been slammed into the rock repeatedly.' He closed his eyes, trying not to look at the grizzly scene.

Sesshomaru retreated from the body he would be back later. However, right now, something else caught his interest. “What is it?” he asked, approaching Shippo.

“I'm not sure?” Shippo replied, “Are you transforming again or do we just jump, and pray we don't break any bones on the way down.”

Sesshomaru ignored his snide comment and once again grabbed him, jumping over the ravine. The drop was a good 40ft. He used the leveraged of the taller trees, as he leapt from the branches, scaring away the local wildlife. Making his way to the soft forest floor, he let Shippo go aggressively as soon as he landed.

Once again, Shippo was sitting on the ground; standing up he growled at the elder before him, “What the fuck was that for?” He began brushing off the moss and dirt, from his pants. Rubbing his sore rump, Shippo refused to show any emotion except for anger. He wasn't going to complain in front of him. He didn't exactly have experience in this field expedition…because that's surely what it felt like.

Sesshomaru just walked past him coolly. He didn't care about that damn kit. Up on the cliff he thought about pushing him off, but fought against his urge. The kit was defiantly a pest. Although he couldn't do that. He could only imagine. With that thought, he smiled and walked towards the lagoon, ignoring Shippo.

He could see a piece of white fabric swirling around, where the water, dumped into the pond. `Damn!' he would have to get wet again…or he could send that fox in to retrieve the floating material. That's just what he decided to do, “Shippo, why don't you go in and retrieve it.”

“Me?”

Sesshomaru snarled, “Yes you! Whom else would I be talking to? Besides that, why don't you get up and make yourself useful; while I search the banks.” He paused, “Maybe we will find those who screamed, and hope that we aren't to late.”

15 minutes earlier:

Inuyasha and Kagome plummeted at a fast rate, as they both screamed, loudly. There were large rocks below just by the side of the mountain. Just like a rocket, they went feet first into the depths below.

Striking the stilled lagoon, it seemed like being hit with a brick. Inuyasha came to and began to surface; he caught his breath and looked around. “Kagome?” When he noticed she didn't resurface he dove underneath again.

Opening his eyes, the water had been surprisingly clean. He could see her lifeless body just floating. Swimming quickly, he managed to grab her by her arm. He was afraid that she was gone, her eyes were closed, and small air bubbles perturbed out of her mouth. Pulling frantically he once again came to the surface; his hand went under her chin, bringing face above the water.

He backstroked towards the shore. With her tucked safely into his arms, he looked down at her and frowned, she still wasn't responding. “Come on Kagome! Come back to me.”

Climbing out of the water, he wasted no time, rushing to her aid. He listened for a heartbeat, but it was faint. His eyes widened, panicked, he couldn't remember what to do. Taking deep breaths, he tilted her head to the side, opening her mouth with his hand. Somehow, he needed to get the water out of her lungs.

Remembering some of his CPR class's in high school, he knew he needed to dislodge the water someway. He gently stuck his finger down her throat, trying to make her cough up the water. `Shit!' It wasn't working, so the next step was to tilt her head back, opening her passageway. He quickly pressed his lips over hers, pushing the much needed air into her lungs. He counted to three and tried again. He smiled when he could see her eyes flutter open, as she was coming to.

She began to cough violently. Turning her head to the side, she couldn't keep the water in her lungs any longer. After releasing the pressure, from her chest, she happily took in the fresh air. Wiping her mouth, she could feel herself being lifted into a strong set of arms. “Inuyasha?” she said, as she looked around focusing on her new surroundings. `We've survived.' She smiled slightly, but soon turned into a torrent of tears.

“Kagome, what's the matter?” He couldn't stand seeing her cry. “Please Kagome, tell me why are you crying?”

She sniffed, wiping away the tears, “I'm sorry I guess I am just grateful to be alive, and that you are still here with me.”

Inuyasha fell to his knees in the soft embankment. He rubbed her cheek, tenderly. Staring into her hazel orbs, he was lost. He could have lost her and that scared the hell out of him. “I told you, I'm not that easy to kill.”

She threw her arms around his neck. She too needed to touch him, feel him to know that he was really before her. She also gazed into his eyes, “I meant what I said up there Inuyasha. I love you, and I know now that I can't go on without you in my life. I need you.”

He smiled taking in what she just said; he felt his heart flutter rapidly in his chest. He wanted to shout to the heavens, that he was so lucky to have her in his life. However, he never had a chance to respond when he felt her lips crash into his.

The kiss was demanding, and heartfelt. It made his senses turn into mush under her intense kiss. It was like she was pouring herself into him, and he wasn't about to let that go. However as much as he wanted to stay with her, he was sure that Naraku and his men was still searching for them.

“Kagome,” he said breathily, as he pulled away from her swollen lips. “I love you also, and I'm never letting you go.” He turned his head away in shame, “I made a mistake today, that could of cost us our lives. For that I'm truly sorry. I could have lost you.”

“But you didn't, I'm still here.” She placed her hand on his cheek rubbing the soft skin reassuringly. “You did what you thought was the best means of escape.”

“Still…” he turned his head away from her. “ … I will never make that mistake again.” Facing her, he could see her love struck eyes. His words sincere, he grabbed her bringing her lips to his once again, tasting every inch of what he mouth and tongue had to offer.

He didn't seem to mind that his Kagome was dominating the kiss, he rather enjoyed it and wouldn't mind if this side of her came out more often. “I will die to protect you Kagome,” he said softly.

She smiled, and then quickly kissed him again. This time he pulled away. “What is the matter?” she asked, thinking that she did something wrong.

Bringing her hand to his lips, as he kissed her. He smiled, “I assure you sweetheart, that there is nothing wrong. I would love to stay here, tasting every inch of your body. However, I do not feel comfortable, being here when he's still out there. We need to get a head start. Hopefully he will think that we didn't make it.”

She nodded in agreement, as she watched him pull out her ripped panties. `What the hell is he doing with them?' Her eyes widened when he threw them into the lagoon. “Hey…those were mine,” she said exasperated.

“Indeed they were. Sorry sweetheart, I needed to throw off our trail somehow.”

She was angry but was done was done. His gentle hands grabbed onto hers as he helped her stand. With a swift motion, she was once again in his arms. This time she didn't complain, she was tired and the gesture, was endearing. They once again disappeared into the depths of the jungle.

Present:

Shippo snarled as he stepped barefoot into the water. He raised his pants and folded them just above his knees. He also found a large branch; he made quick work of the limb and now was using it to grab the mysterious material.

Sesshomaru watched amused, he couldn't understand why Shippo just didn't retrieve it on his own. He was amazed when the kit actually got the fabric to hook onto the flimsy stems. “What is it?”

Shippo laughed, as he stepped out of the water, “It's a pair of woman's panties. And by the looks of it, there shredded.”

Sesshomaru snatched the fabric off the dead limb. He sniffed them, in a decent manor. The water washed most of the scent away, however there was still a slight scent to them. “Inuyasha!” he said aloud. He knew it that was his brother that he heard. He roared, “INUYASHA!” he didn't care if anyone else in the vicinity heard him. “INUYASHA!”

Shippo stood stunned, “Are you sure?”

Sesshomaru growled, “Of course I'm sure! I think I would know my brothers scent.”

Inuyasha stopped when he heard his name called. `That's…that's `Sesshomaru.' He smirked, and then abruptly turned around, “SESSHOMARU!” he screamed at the top of his lungs.

Kagome looked confused, “Inuyasha? Who is that?”

He smiled, “My brother…my brother is here and we're rescued!” Inuyasha smiled brightly, he couldn't contain his excitement.

“Really, we get to go home finally. What happens to us then?” she couldn't help but ask. Even though she new that he loved her and she him. She shook her head, needing to shake her doubt away.

Inuyasha smirked, he knew what he was going to do, he was going to make her his mate, and what better way to do it but inside a luxurious hotel room. Of course, the room would be filled with food. I hope that there's a large bathtub…and not to mention a soft bed. He hugged her reassuringly, “I think I can manage to tolerate you a while longer.” He laughed.

She smiled, then snuggled closer to his chest as he ran through the thinned vegetation.

Sesshomaru and Shippo stood still, both with big smiles on their face. Inuyasha responded, and he heading towards them. As his scent became closer, there was another a softer aroma; it was that of his lover. Their search was finally over.

Naraku froze, when he heard an unfamiliar voice. It didn't take him long to jump down the ravine. “Damn,” he swore. `Who the fuck found Inuyasha before I did?' He could here the men call each other. He cursed again; they were supposed to be alone. He didn't dare approach the two demons. The one reeked of power. Although Naraku was strong, he didn't think he was ready to face a full demon, not one of that strength.

Although he couldn't help but gloat. He'd taken down Inutaisho, who reeked of absolute power.

Silently, he watched intently into the bushes. He could see the two demons across the way. He needed to outsmart them.

He was about to leave, until he saw her. His eyes narrowed, she was snuggled tightly into his chest, and she was happy. He thought about making his presence known, however re-considered it. He was obsessed with her. It ate at him, like a drug, and he couldn't understand it. He could easily just kill her with one shot of his gun. However, his burning lust and desire for her, kept him at bay. He growled, “ I will find you soon, Kagome. I have my ways.” Wherever he was, she was sure to follow.

He jumped back up the ravine, retribution in mind he went to fetch his men. The two full-fledged demons, might have warned him off this time. However, he had other tricks up his sleeve. `Sesshomaru where have I heard that name before?' He stopped, his eyes widened. “Well? Well?” His eyes gleamed with cruel intent. He would defiantly finish what he started, the day he murdered their parents. He would just now take out the two remaining Taro's.

Inuyasha carefully put Kagome down, as he ran up to his big brother. “Sesshomaru am I ever glad to see you!” he exclaimed, giving his brother a tight hug.

Shippo growled slightly. “Hey I had a hand in this too you know?”

Inuyasha chuckled, leaving his brother's embrace. Walking over to his fox friend, he smiled as he rubbed his head, “Thanks runt.”

Shippo smiled, pulling him into tight hug. He loved Inuyasha like a brother, even thought he hated being called a `runt'. Of course, he would let it slide for now. He was just happy that he was alive.

Kagome watched with interest, however she blushed when all eyes where suddenly on her.

Shippo gazed at the woman before him and smiled. He couldn't help but admire her beauty. Her hazel eyes bewitched him, and couldn't contain the growl of content, when he saw her silk straps draped over her arm. “And who might you be?” he asked, with a flirtatious tone.

Kagome blushed, “Hello, I am Kagome.” She said politely, she noticed the deep growl, coming from Inuyasha.

Shippo laughed, “Inuyasha are you two an ite-?”

Shippo didn't finish his sentence when Inuyasha hit him over the head, “Be grateful, I didn't do worse.” Rubbing his head quickly he frowned slightly. Shippo knew that he embarrassed his friend. Looking at his friend with an apologetic look he smirked, knowing he indeed received his answer.

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes, as he approached Kagome. “Hello, I'm Sesshomaru, Inuyasha's elder brother. It pleases me that finally someone with manners and some couth.” He paused then looked at the other males with a sharp tone, “unlike some fox I know.”

“Hey?” Shippo tried to defend himself.

Sesshomaru continued, “I'm honored to make your acquaintance. And pray my idiot brother does right by you.”

Kagome looked over at Inuyasha and smiled, `Was he?'

“Well what the fuck are we standing around for, I want some food and a bath.” He stopped mid-sentence and collected Kagome, “Finally that bath sweetheart.” He whispered in her ear, so the other two wouldn't hear, “Me and you all alone.”

She blushed, but laughed, “I thought we already settled this up on the hill? Nothing for you.” She couldn't contain her mirth.

Inuyasha caught on to her game, “Oh that's right, hands off…well to bad for you.” He looked down, as she pouted, he laughed, and then continued where he left off. “I guess I will just have to tie up a certain woman, and make her change the error of her ways.”

Shippo chuckled, while Sesshomaru gave his brother a stern look, “Inuyasha, if I have to listen to this all the way back to the plane. Then your going to wish I left you here in the jungle.”

He smiled at his brother, “Always the ass hey big brother.” He blushed then kissed Kagome on the forehead. “This conversation isn't over, we will continue this when were alone.”

Shippo whined, “Sesshomaru couldn't you turn back into that sphere and get us the hell out of this shit infested jungle.”

“Damn bro! I didn't know you could still do that.” Inuyasha gasped.

“The answer is no!”

Kagome just laughed, she snuggled closer to her love, and rested her eyes. For the time being, they were safe. She couldn't wait to get to a nice hotel and call her family, and see if she still had a company. She'd worry about that later.
