Chapter 21
Blindsided

Sesshomaru tried to ignore the love struck pup behind him. He had so many questions. At first, he wanted to wait until they were rested, but listening to the sound of dogs in the background; he couldn't wait until they returned. He watched the river, as it stretched down the horizon. It was still sunny, but it was also late in the afternoon and the sun would soon be lost behind the canopy of trees. Lost in his thoughts, he needed answers. If they were in danger, he wanted to be well aware of what he would be dealing with.

Sesshomaru exerted too much energy when he formed the sphere—he defiantly wasn't a young as he used to be, and not to mention he hasn't used technique in centuries. Although it would be helpful getting off this mountain, he didn't think that he could handle taking all three of them. He would reserve what energy he had, incase of an emergency.

There was also the question of what happened to the dead officer up near the edge of the falls?

His curiosity got the best of him, “Inuyasha? What happened?” it was a simple enough question.

Inuyasha and Kagome stopped laughing as soon as his elder brother asked the question. He felt Kagome tense up in his arms, and he growled at his brother. He guessed it was safe to sit down and tell his brother everything. He sniffed the air, but their wasn't any other scent expect for the jungle and their small group. He didn't want to waste time either. He wasn't as agile as his elder. Him being only a half-demon, but that didn't make him weak. “Can you wait until we at least get back to the Hotel?”

Sesshomaru's eyes widened when he asked what he thought to be just a simple question. He didn't expect, the two of them to react in such a terrifying manner. `Why did I suddenly smell Kagome's fear? What did these two encounter?' He could tell Shippo noticed it too. He stopped abruptly, turning toward his brother he answered in a stoic voice, “No, I'm afraid it can't wait.”

Kagome began to tremble; she didn't want to reveal her fears to a complete stranger—even though it was Inuyasha's brother and friend. “Inuyasha?” She didn't know if he even wanted to answer. `Where is Naraku, why hasn't he come for us? Or did he think that we may have drown.' She shook her head she had to tell them, but where should she start, she was about to respond, but Inuyasha cut her off.

“Sesshomaru, I was hoping to get out of the Amazon, before nightfall.” Inuyasha stated. He sniffed the air, and could hear the dogs in the distance. `It sounds like they're leaving. But why?'

Naraku made his way up the hill, where Hiten and Bankotsu where waiting for him. He was angered, and wanted to kill the first face he came across; yet refrained in doing so. “Hiten, Inuyasha and Kagome survived the fall, however they weren't alone. I need you to stay upwind, and follow them.” Naraku narrowed his eyes as he grabbed Hiten by the throat, squeezing tightly. He listened to Hiten struggle for air, and gave Hiten a menacing smile. “Hiten! I will not hesitate in killing you were you stand if you fail me again. Find out everything you know and report to me. Is that understood?”

Hiten coughed, as he struggled for breath, “yes sir, I understand!”

“Good!” Naraku smirked, and then released his hold.

Hiten rubbed his throat soothingly. He was about to leave, when his boss gave him one last order.

“Hiten, keep you steps soft, and make sure your clumsy ass doesn't give us away.”

Hiten bit his tongue, he wasn't about to risk his life for a retort. He just nodded, and went down the hill. He assumed if he headed down the steep incline, that he would be able to find them since his boss left him no directions. He thought about killing Naraku and taking over his business, as he tried to walk gently with his steps. `Why did Naraku, leave suddenly. Did he have a run in with Inuyasha? But I didn't see any blood.' He lessened his eyes hatefully at the vines that he brushed aside. `What could have made Naraku leave? Was he scared? And if so scared of what?' He gripped the handle of his gun sitting in his holster, tightly.

Naraku turned to Bankotsu as he headed towards Alessandra's house in which they first started their hunt. “Bankotsu, I need you to go back to the office and find out all the information on the Taro's. Everything you can come up with: I want to know their place of residence, if they are married? You know the drill, and I want this information as soon as possible!”

“Yes sir!” Bankotsu said, as he held the leashes tightly. “And what about Mike?”

Naraku stopped, and then looked at Bankotsu oddly, “who is Mike?”

“Sir he was the rookie that fell over the cliff,” Bankotsu smiled. Of course, he new that wasn't the case and Naraku murdered that young man. He wasn't worried and would just say there was an accident.

Naraku laughed, “Well no matter. I can always hire someone else.” He pulled his small phone out of his pocket and cursed when there wasn't a signal. “Hey can you get a signal out here?”

Bankotsu was prepared, and pulled out his black and yellow satellite phone out of his black satchel. “Of course,” he said, running alongside Naraku. Being a captain of the police squad it had its advantages.

“Good, send men out here and recover the body, then call my pilot.”

Bankotsu nodded.

Miroku looked at his clock, sitting in his living room. He had another hour before his blind date. He could only hope she was pretty as his friend said she was.

Sitting in his living room, he turned on the television. Hoping to catch the evening news, he prayed every night that they would release to the press the victims of the unfortunate accident-just one week ago. However, they haven't and he hadn't heard from Sesshomaru.

He tried calling information; unfortunately he wasn't a family member and they wouldn't disclose any information.

Sighing, he turned off the television, and then headed upstairs. He needed to get ready for his date, maybe she could help him cope—or at least something to distract him from his friends unfortunate events.

He stepped into his closet and pulled out a gray dress shirt and a pair of black khakis. Placing the articles of clothing on his queen-sized bed, he glanced at his reflection in the large oak framed mirror, which happened to be sitting on his rectangular Mahogany dresser.

Opening another door, he stepped into his large bathroom; living in a condominium had its perquisites. Miroku didn't mind living a luxurious life. He strived hard for it and took great pleasure in enjoying the amenities of life, and a good shower was one of them.

Inuyasha stopped, and placed Kagome down. They were still traveling along side of the river. He knew that they were out in the open, yet still smelt no sign of danger. He finally got his brother to stop inquiring about the incident, and Inuyasha was in no mood. He didn't want his brother to find out how humiliated he was and ashamed that he couldn't protect them better- And sure didn't need that guilt resurfacing.

Approaching a tree he leaned up against the bark, he wanted a break. Tired, hungry, and just plain sick of being in the jungle, he needed to reflect and clear his mind. He thought Shippo would be the one that was curious to know what had happened to him. Although he did understand his brother completely and knew that, he was just afraid for him. Inuyasha smirked slightly, even though him and his brother clashed. Sesshomaru was always there for him, even now. `How in the hell did he find me anyways?'

Kagome looked at him with sleepy eyes. She had finally calmed herself down, from all the walking. The sun was almost ready to set. She could only imagine the view, and smiled slightly, when she would witness it by Inuyasha's side.

Kagome frowned when she could see Inuyasha's confused expression. She began rubbing the palm of her hand softly on the side of his cheek. She spoke soothingly, “Inuyasha? What is the matter?” Was he having doubts of being with her since Sesshomaru was here now? `No! I will not think these things…he loves me…so just go away.' She closed her eyes tightly, ridding the unwanted doubt, which reluctantly seemed to re-surface.

Inuyasha tilted his head, as he unexpectedly kissed Kagome, he could feel her tense quickly-probably due to his sudden aggressiveness. He could almost see the confusion in her eyes, and wanted her to only have thoughts of him.

That same fire like before consumed her; she lost any sign of doubt with his kiss: tender and passionate, only to melt into his arms, lost to any thought of the outside world; only knew of his soft lips. Her body tingled with need, he was an addiction, and she wanted him now!

She found herself tightly pulled towards him from around the waist. Their sudden closeness caused her to moan softly into his mouth. Their tongues dueled violently, yet neither surrendered.

She could feel the hardness of his body, as he rubbed up against her, sending shivers down to her very core. She was ready to strip him down, and jump him, like a bitch in heat. Her hands untangled themselves out of his long hair and began to feel for his shirt, so she could feel the ripples from his smooth chest.

Inuyasha smelt her strong pheromones, from her arousal. He was lost in her touch, and his manhood stiffened even more. Lowering her down on the soft sandy bank, his rough but gentle hands, grabbed her breasts firmly, only to feel her nipples harden under his touch. He left her lips as he watched her breath heavily, with half opened lids, “Inuyasha,” she whispered.

Again, he lowered himself on her, as her legs spread open to accommodate his weight. Continuing he kissed her neck, nipping at the base of her shoulder. He growled pleasurably when he felt her soft hands rub the base of his ears.

A sudden `cough', stopped their passionate rendezvous, and Kagome could feel her face warm. `Oh God!' she was utterly embarrassed, and was too afraid to look at the person/demon who interrupted them. She could hear Inuyasha growl furiously as well.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here? Gee Inuyasha, I at least hoped you could've waited until we got back to the hotel room.” Shippo snickered. He couldn't believe his friend. Shippo tried not to look at the beautiful creature sprawled out like some vixen, ready to be consumed. Unfortunately this was Inuyasha's girl and he needed to leave it be.

“You have less than thirty seconds to get you ass out of here, before I decide to tear you to shreds! You fucking runt!” Inuyasha snarled, he also couldn't believe that he forgot they were there. He looked down at Kagome, whose face now looked like a ripened strawberry. “Damn sweetheart!” She sure did know how to make his mind turn to mush, that was for sure.

Shippo retreated quickly, although he couldn't contain his laughter. He looked at the elder with amusing eyes.

“Well, Shippo what seems to be so funny?”

“I just caught your brother and Kagome…well your-?”

“Don't you dare finish that sentence runt?” Inuyasha yelled as he and Kagome—after trying to come down from their interrupted interlude—approached them from behind.

Sesshomaru observed the situation; he could smell the scent of both their arousals. He snorted distantly, “Inuyasha, do you have no tact? You have to have to take her now?”

Kagome squeaked, then ran behind Inuyasha. Shippo was embarrassing enough, but knowing his brother now knew, and wasn't happy about it either; definitely didn't help the situation.

Inuyasha snorted, then looked back, and smirked when he saw Kagome hiding behind him. Although he thought it was cute, that suddenly he was becoming her savior, even against his brother. He narrowed his eyes heatedly at his brother, “you know damn well, I can do what I want!”

Sesshomaru, noticed Shippo backing away. Looking at his brother with the same glare he barked, “I didn't come all this way to find you just to bring you home in a body bag! Where you even aware that someone was standing right next to you? What if it wasn't Shippo?”

Inuyasha wanted to retort, but his brother was right. He felt Kagome's hands snake around his waste in a comforting manner. If he was correct, his brother's words troubled her too.

Sesshomaru approached Inuyasha, placing his hands on his brothers shoulders, “Inuyasha, I love you. I'm only saying this in order to protect you.” It was rare that he was showing such emotion towards his brother. Yet, it terrified him to know that his sibling was in danger, and still didn't know who or why? “But, you have to tell me what happened, I need all the details, so I can help protect you.”

Inuyasha didn't know how to respond, he felt his eyes, become glazed with unshed tears. “I assure you, that I took the necessary precautions, before…” He didn't want to finish his sentence, and suddenly felt warmth spread over his cheeks. `Damn, even when I'm not kissing her, my mind still gets all mushy.'

Sesshomaru smiled, his anger fading. “I see that you've done a great job so far, protecting Kagome.” He smiled as he looked over Inuyasha's shoulder, only to find the girl trying to burrow herself deeper into his brother's back. He laughed, loudly then turned away from the couple. He stopped then turned his head back, addressing the two again, “we will camp here for the night, I expect answers tonight!”

Inuyasha huffed, crossing his arms submitting to his brother, “Fine, I will tell you everything.”

Kagome cringed, especially after Inuyasha agreed. No matter she needed to be strong.

Sango had a feminine/masculine tone to her bedroom. She had a king size bed, with an oak frame headboard. Her bedspread was a warm vibrant hunter-green with a beige comforter draped across the sheets. She also let the feminine side come out, and loved lilacs. Therefore, she brought a purple sheen to the mix, which included: painting, drapes, and a throw rug, that had all the colors incorporated in the soft material. Stepping out of the steamy bathroom, she quickly dried her hair and dressed.

Sango checked herself in the mirror one last time. She had left her hair down as it cascaded down her spaghetti strapped scarlet dress. She growled, as one of her straps refused to stay in place and kept sliding down the side of her arm. She thought that she adjusted it properly. “Damn!” She didn't need a disaster now. Her blind date was expecting to pick her up any minute. She wasn't thrilled about having a stranger know where she lived, and made sure she expressed this to her friend earlier—after her nap.

She rushed into her closet once more, and swore again. There wasn't a thing to wear. She frowned, and then started pulling out outfits, throwing them carelessly onto the bed. She picked up a black dress. Unfortunately, it was a mini dress, black leather and strapless, a dominatrix's dream attire. She couldn't wear this on her first date, this dress was given to her by her ex-lover. She recalled what he said: “You are defiantly a dominatrix in disguise.” She laughed, and threw the dress aside.

Instead, she settled for a light jacket, which matched the color of her dress, then returned to the mirror for an inspection. She didn't like it and threw the jacket onto the bed. She would just have to deal with the rebellious strap.

Being a meticulous person in general, she sighed when she noticed that half her wardrobe lay on the bed. She couldn't leave without cleaning her mess up first. It's been a while since she has been with anyone, and she didn't know in what direction this night could head. She chuckled at the thought of him coming up to her room after the date. She just couldn't see it happening, and suddenly was thankful. “Damn hormones.”

Now that her room was in a much more tolerable state, she finished readying herself, with the final touches. She placed silver jewelry, around her neck and wrist. Then she found medium sized diamond studded earrings, she smiled as they sparkled in the light.

Picking up her lip-gloss she began to apply the shiny liquid, when the doorbell rang. Her heart seemed to now be in her throat. “Oh, God he's here!” Snapping out of her panicked stupor, she grabbed her black purse and her red heals, as she ran down the stairs.

Placing her purse on one of inn tables, she quickly put on her shoes, and grabbed her keys. The doorbell rang again. Taking a deep breath, she slowly approached the door, ready to go. Carefully, she opened the door, expecting some ogre standing there before her. She never in a million years anticipated that this man who was not only dressed nice, but was extremely handsome.

Something weird stirred in her since she was just staring at the man before her. Lust filling her eyes, she forgot she could speak, and stood there with her mouth slightly gaped.

Miroku chuckled; he also liked what he saw standing before him. “Hello, you must be Sango, I'm Miroku.”

Hiten couldn't believe he was on this suicide mission. He had found the group before nightfall. Nevertheless, he really didn't feel safe, and decided leaning up against a tree would suffice for now. Moreover, all he could rely on for light was the glow from a nearby fire. He didn't have a flashlight, even so he wouldn't have been able to use it. He couldn't even smoke, and he was in desperate need for a cigarette.

Then nighttime in the jungle was eerie, strange noises echoed around him. He was scared, of what he couldn't see, and knew the dangers of the jungle. He frowned; he didn't want to end up on some Jaguars menu and prayed morning would soon come—that's if he survived the night.

Finding no threat, they decided to light a medium size fire. Shippo and Sesshomaru went hunting and came back with a wild boar He took only what he could, only leaving a bony carcass, which he tossed into the ravine, where scavengers, wouldn't venture near to camp. With the beast cleaned and sliced, Sesshomaru didn't want sit for hours waiting for a spit-roasted pig. Therefore, he sliced it and cooked it separately on his, makeshift wooden steaks.

He glanced over at the couple, they both had forlorn expressions, “I'm sorry to make you relive your nightmares, but I need to know what I'm dealing with.”

Inuyasha huffed, “Fine, where do you want me to begin.” Of course, he was going to leave out the details about his trysts with Kagome.

Shippo decided to join the circle; he also wanted to hear everything.

“The beginning of course,” Sesshomaru smirked, as he turned the meat in front of him. They would be able to eat soon.

Inuyasha held Kagome tightly, as she sat in his lap. She'd been quiet, and let him tell his brother. She closed her eyes, trying to block them out and listen intently to the nighttime sounds of the forest. She desperately tried not to hear them when she already lived it. She closed her eyes, and snuggled into Inuyasha's chest. Soon she fell asleep.

Shippo and Sesshomaru listen intently to Inuyasha, “So this person that is after you is a demon by the name of Naraku?” Sesshomaru asked, he picked up the meat and handed it to the members of his small pack. Him being the eldest, it was up to him to ensure the safety of his group. He growled, “I know this Naraku? He was a client of Father's.”

“What!” Inuyasha screamed into the night, waking Kagome in the process. “Are you certain?”

“Inuyasha, I know you're probably not aware of this, but he was the number one suspect in our parents murder.”

Inuyasha closed his eyes, which now bled red, “I will kill him again!” he roared, as he stood up knocking Kagome off his lap. “I will tear him to shreds!” he could feel his fangs and claws lengthening, and right now all he wanted to do was hunt the monster down. A strong set of hands grabbed him roughly.

“Snap out of it brother!” Sesshomaru yelled fiercely as he shook him. “I too feel the same way, patience brother we'll have our retribution.” He looked deep into his brother's eyes, “That I promise you.”

“Dammit!” Inuyasha snarled, “I thought I killed him, and now he's after Kagome. I will not let that happen!”

“I know you won't, because I will be there to help you take him down.”

“So will I,” Shippo interjected.

Kagome sat there with tears in her eyes; her heart broke for the man she truly loved. Standing up she approached a calming Inuyasha, his eyes were back to there golden hue, but the jagged stripes on his cheeks remained. She knew that he was thinking about going after Naraku and feared for his life. She grabbed his hand gently avoiding his sharp claws, “Inuyasha, I'm here for you and I will stand by you. I love you so much, I just want you to come back to me safely.”

“Sweetheart? What are you going on about? I'm not fighting anyone tonight. I have to stay here and protect you, I won't let you fall into his hands again.” He cupped her cheek tenderly, “I'm sorry I lost control.” He tilted his head shamefully.

“Inuyasha, you and your brother have every right to be troubled. I'm not upset with you. I told you, that I'm here for you.” She grabbed him bringing him closer to her warm body, as she held him tightly trying to comfort his pain that he might be feeling. “I love you, Inuyasha.”

“I love you too Kagome,” he said softly, as he closed his arms around her. He held her all night, only did he release her to let her eat, as soon as she was done. He grabbed her and placed her in his lap, as they fell asleep. For the first time in a long time, they felt safe.

* Oops, I made a mistake. Sesshomaru isn't 2000 years of age. I can't honestly say what was I thinking. However, the correct age is 706. Therefore, I went back and fixed it. However, I really have no clue to how old he is. I placed his birth in the 1300's.
