Chapter 2

Waking Up

Inuyasha walked in the hut just in time to see Kagome pass out. But before she could hit the ground Inuyasha leapt forward to catch her.

Inuyasha sat down quickly with Kagome in his lap and gently started shaking her.

"Kagome. Kagome. Wake up. What's wrong with her Kaede what happened before I got here?"

"I shall explain as soon as Miroku and Sango get here. You shall all need to know what will happen in the future."

As soon as she had finished saying that she Miroku and Sango both ran into the hut gasping for breath. They then saw Kagome in Inuyasha's lap sleeping.

Sango was the first to say something.

"What happened to Kagome-chan?"

Kaede then told them about Kagome's dream and her finding out about youkai in her time and how she found out and why she didn't know earlier.

"I've been to her time a couple of times and I never noticed any youkai before. And it still doesn't explain why she passed out." Inuyasha barked.

"You probably didn't notice because they were concealing their youki and smell. Besides you've seen ghosts in her time. As for passing out, I told you in her dream the person said that she was getting stronger faster, well they were right. Her magic usually wouldn't be growing so fast if you hadn't gotten so many jewel shards."

Miroku with a thoughtful look on his face said "I think I know what your saying Kaede-sama."

Inuyasha growled and said "Would you mind explaining it to those of us who don't know"

"What I am trying to say is that by collecting so many jewel shards Kagome's magic grows faster. It was in her for so long that the jewel speeds up the growing. Kagome's body cannot take so much magic at once so she gets overwhelmed and passes out."

"Well what can we do for Kagome-chan?" Sango said with worry in her voice.

"The only thing you can do for now is let her sleep when she needs it. It will keep happening to her until her body can take it. I suggest someone to always watch over her. She can fall asleep at anytime."

"How long will she sleep?" asked Shippo who finally spoke out. He had been lying on Kagome's stomach while Inuyasha held her.

"I do not know. She will wake though. Inuyasha why don't you set her on the futon over there."

As much as Inuyasha didn't want to let her go knocked off Shippo and set Kagome down with extreme care. Everyone just stared at him. He treated her as if she was a porcelain doll.

After he set her down he sat next to her. His legs were crossed as he leaned against the wall. He wasn't going to move until Kagome woke up. He closed his eyes as soon as his back reached the wall so he wouldn't have to deal with the stares of his companions.

Shippo crawled on Kagome's stomach. He was going to wait until she woke up too. Sango and Miroku just stared in awe. They knew the hanyou cared about her but they didn't know he would show it so openly. He even let Shippo lay on Kagome.

They all waited for the moment Kagome woke up. They were thinking about what was said after they entered the hut.

Inuyasha had been sitting next to Kagome thinking. If he wasn't on a shard hunt he was usually in his tree waiting for Kagome to come back or a rumor about the Shikon shards. His thoughts were about Kagome and Kikyo. He didn't know what to feel about them or what to do about it.

Ever since Kagome found him with Kikyo that last time and she said she still wanted to be with him his thoughts changed. He kept thinking if he ever really did love Kikyo. He had been questioning it more often. Was it really love or was it the longing of not being alone?

He didn't know if he loved Kagome. He always had this feeling about her since he saw her. No matter how much he denied it he loved her scent. He always took comfort in it. If she weren't there most of the time he probably would have gone crazy.

But did she love him? He knew she cared for him a great deal but could it be that she loved him. A hanyou? He had nothing to offer her if she were to love him back. `Whoa love me back? So I love her? I don't love her do I?'

He looked around at his companions Sango and Miroku who were already asleep. Shippo was also sleeping but instead of being on top of her shirt he was inside of it. The kit acted as if he was afraid she would never wake up. Every once in a while you could hear the kit take a whiff of Kagome's scent. Seems Inuyasha wasn't the only one who took comfort in the way she smelled.

Inuyasha then leaned over Kagome's face and took a whiff himself. He was afraid she wouldn't wake up. Not that he ever would admit it. He couldn't sleep and he wouldn't sleep until she woke up. He would wait all night if he had to. As a hanyou he didn't need much sleep. Besides he could just sleep after she left to go to her time.

Does that mean she would still go to school if there was a chance that she could pass out at any given moment? He would have to ask her when she woke up and he explained that she would be sleeping a lot for a while.

Finally morning came and Kagome started to stir. She opened her eyes and instantly regretted it when she saw the sun shining bright right in her eyes. She was about to roll over on her side when a clawed hand grabbed her shoulder.

"Inuyasha?" she asked. She was wondering what he was doing. He usually slept on the other side of the hut next to the door.

All he did was point to the round ball in her shirt. Kagome looked at it and realized Shippo had been sleeping in her shirt.

"He's never done that before. What happened Inuyasha? All I remember was seeing you run in the hut like a maniac."

"You passed out. You'll be doing a lot now that your magic is getting stronger. Kaede says your body can't handle it so you'll need all the sleep you can get. I think Shippo slept under your shirt because he was afraid you wouldn't wake up."

After he finished saying that Shippo decided to wake up and take a peek at her from the head opening. He saw Kagome was awake and hugged Kagome as hard as he could.

Inuyasha was trying to keep the blush from coming up. When Shippo woke up Inuyasha got an eyeful of Kagome's breast. Sure she had a bra on but it didn't mean he wasn't thinking about what was under the material.

"It's ok Shippo I'm awake now. Although since I'm up I need to go to my time. I have to get my pack and I also need to make up what I missed. I ran out of school early. I will probably be back tomorrow."

Kagome then looked at Inuyasha. He was blushing and he was staring at something. She looked and noticed that where Inuyasha was sitting he could see down her shirt because of Shippo. She blushed and pulled Shippo out of her shirt and sat up.

"Sit" She felt a lot better after she heard him being slammed into the ground. Because of the noise Sango and Miroku woke up and saw Kagome was awake with Shippo in her lap and Inuyasha was face down on the ground.

"What did he do now?" Asked a sleepy Sango.

"Yeah why did you sit him Kagome all he did was look down your shirt." Shippo asked.

Kagome blushed and then got mad when Miroku started asking Inuyasha if it was a good view. She then looked at Sango who just whacked the monk in the back of the head. Inuyasha just got up and walked outside.

"I have to go to my time I need to make up some work because I left early. I also need to get my pack. I should be back tomorrow." Kagome said while getting up.

"Ok just make sure you be careful Kaede-sama said you could sleep at any time."

Kagome muttered I will and started her way to the well. When she got to the well she started feeling a little dizzy and was about to fall when someone caught her. She looked at who caught her and it was Inu Yasha.

"You shouldn't be going to that school thing if your going to fall all the time. You should stay here where we can watch you. At least if you collapse we'll know what to do."

Kagome was confused. Was Inuyasha really being nice? "I'll be ok Inuyasha I'm just going to my time for a day. I need to at least get my assignments I missed. I think I can go a couple of hours without anything happening." She smiled.

Inuyasha could never resist her smile so he said, "Fine but I'm coming with you."

"You don't have to I can take care of myself."

"I don't care Kaede told us about your dream. Didn't the person say `Keep our hanyou with you at all times'? And since we know there are demons in your time I'm going."

Kagome couldn't argue with that she knew he would go anyway. "Fine you can come but you have to stay out of sight. Thanks for caring Inuyasha."

Before Inuyasha could answer she had jumped in. He looked down the well and thought `Shit I was being nice. Goddamn emotions.'
