Chapter 9

On The Road

Inuyasha jumped up in a fighting stance and looked around. He also took a big sniff. Positive that nothing was around he grabbed Kagome making Shippo fall out of her shirt. The others woke up from Shippo's yelp of pain.

"Itai, Inuyasha what did you do that for?" Shippo yelled while rubbing his behind.

"What is wrong Inuyasha?" Miroku said while looking at the hanyou. Inuyasha was sitting in the corner with Kagome in his arms. Kagome looked confused and tired.

"That fucker isn't getting within ten feet of Kagome. I'll make sure of that." Inuyasha yelled.

"Inuyasha what are you talking about? What's wrong?" Kagome asked him. She was hoping she could calm him down enough so that he would let her go back to sleep. They had a long day tomorrow and she was tired.

"That bastard Hojo was in my dream. He said he was coming to get you."

Kagome looked a little scared and held on to him tighter. She didn't want him to let her go anymore.

"It's ok Okaa-san. Inuyasha won't let anything happen to you. I'll protect you too." Shippo said with the utmost confidence in himself.

"Arigato Shippo. I feel safer now." She picked him up and put him in her lap. "Inuyasha can you let go I'm tired and we have to get up early tomorrow if we want to get that shard."

"No"

"What do you mean no I need to get some sleep. Do you want me to fall asleep in the middle of a battle or something?"

"I'm not putting you down. Go to sleep."

"In your lap? But…"

Inuyasha kissed her forehead "Go to sleep you can yell at me later. That means you go to sleep to bouzo."

"Hai, hai Inuyasha." Miroku then laid back down and fell asleep. Sango also went back to sleep.

Kagome just thought for a little while. How was it that Hojo could get into people's dreams? How did he know about this side of the well? She was a little worried. What did he mean about coming soon? She just fell asleep. She was too tired to worry right now.

Inuyasha finally calmed down enough to loosen his grip on Kagome. Not too much of a grip but enough to where she was a little bit more comfortable. He wasn't going to let that guy get anywhere near Kagome.

He decided that he wasn't going to sleep tonight. He had been sleeping too much anyway. He just watched Kagome sleep.

Everyone woke up to Shippo's wailing and Inuyasha's fowl language. Kagome was on her sleeping bag when she woke up. She looked at the two running around. She shook her head and started making breakfast.

Miroku was already up. "Houshi-sama what did Shippo do to set Inuyasha off so early in the morning?" Sango asked.

"I think it would more amusing if you heard Shippo tell you."

Kagome and Sango just looked at Miroku confused. All of a sudden Shippo dove into Kagome's chest.

"Wah Okaa-san he's going to hurt me." Shippo pouted.

"Sit. What did you do to make him mad?" Kagome asked.

"I woke up and asked him why he was looking at your chest? He kept looking at it."

Kagome just blushed. She kept making food. Inuyasha sat up. He looked at Shippo with a promise of revenge. "I wasn't doing anything runt." Inuyasha barked.

Shippo opened his mouth to say something but then quickly shut it. The hanyou was glaring at him. He just squeaked and held on to Kagome tighter.

After eating everyone packed up their things and left the village. They were on their three-day journey to the village they were supposed to go to last time.

Inuyasha was standing next to Kagome and Shippo who was taking a nap in her arms. He was acting like a guard dog, always glancing at her and then looking all around the group. Sango and Miroku were a little ways behind. Sango had Kirara in her arms.

They had been walking for a long time. They took a rest to eat lunch. Kagome was deciding whether or not to tell Inuyasha she was feeling tired. She didn't want to worry him. She didn't think it was a big deal.

Kagome decided to keep her mouth shut. Then all of a sudden she sensed two Shikon shards. She stopped co she could concentrate on where they were coming from. She then stared at an open field in front of them.

She had a pretty good feeling who it was. She looked up at Inuyasha. He was sniffing the air. He then looked at the open field she was staring at and started growling. He pushed Kagome behind him and took out the tetsusaiga.

Sango and Miroku were confused by their behavior. Shippo then jumped out of Kagome's arms and ran onto Miroku's shoulder. "What is it Shippo?" Miroku asked.

"It's Kouga." As soon as he said that a whirlwind came into view.

Inuyasha's growling got louder. Kagome just stood there. Sango and Miroku just sat down by a tree. Situations with Kouga were always trouble. Now that Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship took a step forward it was going to get worse.

"Yo Kagome." Kouga said while throwing Inuyasha out of the way. Inuyasha growled and got up.

"What the hell do you think your doing you wimpy wolf?"

"I'm trying to talk to my woman dog breath. Kagome I was told you were coming this way so I thought I'd say hi." He said while grabbing her hands in his.

"Who told you we were coming this way?" Kagome asked. No one knew except Kaede and the people in their group.

"I don't know he was a demon I never saw before. He was wearing strange clothes. I think he called it a school uniform."

"Your not serious are you? Did he tell you his name?" Kagome asked a little scared. `Could it be him?'

"I think he said it was Hobo or something like that. I don't remember he looked weak."

"You don't mean Hojo do you?" Kagome asked hoping she was wrong.

"Yeah that was it Hojo. He said you were coming this way and that you wanted to see me. He said he was a really close friend of yours."

Kagome froze. How did he make it to this time? How did he know about Kouga?

Inuyasha heard it all. He grabbed Kouga and said, "Where the hell is that fucker I'm going to rip him apart?"

Kouga got out of Inuyasha's grip. "He said he would be traveling around. What the hell do you care?"

Inuyasha went up to Kagome smelling fear coming off of her and embraced her. "It's ok Kagome. I told you he's not going to get you. I won't let him."

"What the hell are you doing dog breath? Get your hands off my woman." Kouga said running up to them. "What the hell are you talking about not going to let him get her?"

Miroku stood up and said, "It appears that this Hojo guy has been after Kagome and the shards for some time now."

"What the hell no one is going to get their hands on my woman." He then grabbed Kagome out of Inuyasha's arms and said, "Kagome I will find this guy and kill him. You don't have to be afraid. I'll get him for you."

He then ran off in the direction he came from. Kagome just stood there. Inuyasha ran up to her. "Are you ok?"

"Hai, I'm just a little tired. That's all." Kagome said.

"Well climb on my back. You need your rest. Kaede said that you shouldn't do anything if you're tired."

" Arigato Inuyasha." She climbed on his back. She laughed at him. She could hear him mumbling stuff about killing Hojo and Kouga when he got the chance. She then fell asleep.

"Let's stop at the village I think I sense and evil aura heading that way." Miroku said as they started walking.

"Do you really think that that will work twice in the same place Houshi-sama." Sango asked.

"Why of course it will work. They wouldn't want an evil aura around if it is dangerous. Besides Kagome-sama would sleep better on a futon." He said.

"Whatever you say Houshi-sama." Sango said with a sigh.

As Miroku said they were all put up for the night. The innkeeper was more than glad to have them stay again. He was grateful for the youkai they got rid of last time and the aura cleansing Miroku performed.

Kagome still hadn't woken up. They already eaten dinner and she was still asleep. They didn't want to wake her up. She needed all the rest she could get. Her powers were getting stronger and her body just can't keep up.

They all went to sleep, all but Inuyasha. He wanted to make sure everything was safe before he went to sleep. He then thought it was safe enough to go to sleep.
