Chapter 26

New Moon

The next morning everyone felt tired. They hadn't gotten much sleep that night. They couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen next. When everything was packed they all headed to Kaede's village.

They all walked slowly. Shippo and Kirara seemed to be the only ones with energy. Kagome was the one with the least energy. The last couple of days had been a drain on her.

She had to deal with a lot. She didn't know what was going to happen next. She had to worry about her family and friends both here and in her time. She didn't think Hojo would do anything to the people in her time but she didn't want to take the chance.

When she went there she would talk to her family about it. She didn't know what they could do but hopefully they would stay safe. Maybe now that they were heading to the village she could start her training with Kaede.

She would need a lot of rest before she did anything though. Just walking was draining her. She didn't want to complain so she didn't say anything. She would stop when they wanted too.

Inuyasha sensed that she was tired. You could tell just by looking at her she was tired. Her eyes were drooping and she was walking slower than usual. Inuyasha walked over to her and picked her up without saying a word.

"Arigato." She said. She laid her head on his chest and closed her eyes. Shippo then took the chance to jump on Kagome's stomach. Kagome stroked his back with her hand. Shippo fell asleep.

Sango and Miroku watched. Anything they did now wasn't as surprising now that they had become a family. It would be sad if the family was torn apart just as it had formed. That's why Sango and Miroku decided to help them.

They couldn't bear to watch their family and friends be hurt by some power hungry demon. They were tired of watching their friends and family die or be hurt. They would do what they could to help.

They had stopped around midday to eat lunch. Kagome and Shippo were sleeping on the sleeping bag Inuyasha had rolled out for her. He sat next to her as she slept.

"Inuyasha how long do you think until we get to the village?" Sango asked.

"About two or three days at the pace we're going." Inuyasha said. They had never really gotten too far. "Why?"

"Well I was thinking that we should get there soon. Kagome has been really tired lately and she needs some rest."

"Yeah but because she's tired we're going slow. We can't do anything about it."

"Hmm well Kagome-sama could ride on your back and Sango and I can ride Kirara, that is if Kirara doesn't mind." Miroku said. Kirara mewed and crawled into Sango's lap.

"Well it seems like Kirara doesn't mind. Shippo will probably want to go with you guys."

"I guess we could do that. She does need to get some rest before we go into Kouga's territory." Inuyasha said.

Inuyasha woke Kagome and Shippo so they could eat. After eating they packed up camp and started on the trail back. Inuyasha jumped from tree to tree with Kagome and Shippo on his back while Sango and Miroku were on Kirara's back.

That's how they traveled until they stopped for the night. They all ate and slept. Everyone was tired so they went to sleep early. If they kept at the pace they were going they would make it to the village by tomorrow night or the morning after.

The next day was like before. They woke up, ate, packed and left. They were all worn out. Kagome couldn't wait until she went to her time so she could sleep in her nice soft bed. Of course Inuyasha would be with her.

Inuyasha was a little worried. Tonight was the night of the new moon. He would be human and unable to protect Kagome properly. He wanted to be on the other side of the well before then.

Know one else remembered. He wasn't going to tell them. With all that's happened this would just add to the stress and worry.

He was arguing with the rest of the group. He didn't want to stop for lunch. He wanted to keep going.

"Why are you pushing us so hard Inuyasha? It won't kill us if we get there tomorrow."

"It might." Inuyasha said. Everyone gave him a puzzled look. Then Miroku realized why he wanted to skip lunch and keep going.

"Ah, I see. Inuyasha is right we should keep going."

"Now you're siding with him?" Sango said.

"It is the night of the new moon." Miroku said.

"Oh." Kagome and Sango said.

"Well that's all you had to say. We would never of had to have this argument if you just told us you know." Kagome said.

"Feh." Inuyasha said and grabbed Kagome. He took to the trees.

"Wait for us Inuyasha." Sango yelled after him. Sango, Miroku, and Shippo jumped on a transformed Kirara and chased after him.

They had traveled as fast as they could to get to the village before sundown. It didn't seem like they would make it. Inuyasha's sense of smell was already weakening. He was starting to slow down too.

He jumped to the ground and stopped. "We're going to have to go on foot." Kagome nodded and slid off his back. She walked next to Inuyasha. Sango and Miroku got off Kirara. She transformed back into her little neko form and jumped in Sango's arms.

They had been walking at a fast pace and they didn't make it to the village before sundown. Everyone watched as Inuyasha's silver hair turned black and his golden amber eyes turned brown.

Inuyasha kept his eyes closed as the transformation took place. He hated feeling weak. His claws were now dull human fingernails and he couldn't smell a thing. He would've loved to be able to smell Kagome's sweet scent. It was comforting and that's what he needed right now.

He opened his eyes. Everyone was staring at him, everyone except Kagome she was watching the sun disappear into the horizon. She knew he hated when people watched him change.

"What the fuck are you looking at? We need to get moving." Inuyasha yelled at them. Sango and Miroku jumped at the sound of his voice and turned around and started walking again.

"You didn't have to be so mean Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"Feh." He said. He grabbed Kagome's hand and gave it a squeeze. She gave him a reassuring smile. They walked in silence.

Finally the edge of the village could be seen. Everyone sped up. Kagome turned around. She could still feel like someone was watching them.

"What's wrong?" Inuyasha asked looking where she was staring.

"Nothing."

"Something is wrong what is it."

"Well it's just that for awhile now I felt like someone has been watching us. But every time I look back there's no one there."

"You too Kagome-chan?" Sango said. Kagome nodded.

"Why didn't you say anything?" Inuyasha asked.

"Well I thought I was just being paranoid." Kagome said. Sango nodded in agreement.

"Let's just hurry up and get to the village." Inuyasha said.

"Otou-san."

"What is it Shippo?" Inuyasha asked. He looked at Shippo. Shippo sniffed twice and fell to the ground.

"Shippo." Everyone yelled. Kagome was the first to get to him. She held him in his arms.

"What's wrong with him?" As soon as Kagome's question was asked a little ball rolled in front of her.

They all looked at it and it opened. It let out smoke. Inuyasha, Sango, and Miroku covered their noses. Kagome didn't have anything to cover herself with. No one could see. The smoke was covering the area.

When the smoke finally went away they looked around. Kagome and Shippo were gone. Inuyasha started to panic. He looked around. Where could she have gone?

"What's wrong Inuyasha?" Miroku asked.

"Kagome's gone." Inuyasha said still looking around.

"What? Where could she have gone?" Sango asked.

"I don't know but Shippo must be with her."

"She must have been kidnapped." Miroku said with a serious look on his face. "That little ball of stuff must have been sleeping powder. That's why Shippo passed out before any of us did."

"Because he smells better than us." Sango said. "But who would take them?"

"Hojo." Inuyasha said.

"You really think it was him?" Sango asked.

"Who else would it be? Kouga is too stupid to think of something like that."

"We have to go after her." Sango said.

"Let's go."

"Wait Inuyasha."

"Wait. Kagome and Shippo have been kidnapped and you want me to wait? What are you crazy?" Inuyasha asked.

"Can you not see the forest? Look at all the eyes. No doubt they are waiting for us. It seems as though they are there to stop us."

"So what we'll fight them."

"Inuyasha you are in no need to fight. I suggest we go to Kaede's hut and think of a plan." Miroku said.

"Kagome and Shippo could get farther away if we do that." Inuyasha said.

"I think Houshi-sama is right Inuyasha." Sango said.

"We don't have time for this we need to go after them." Inuyasha said.

Sango looked at Miroku. He nodded. Sango raised Hiraikotsu and hit Inuyasha on the head knocking him out.

"Gomen Inuyasha but we need to wait until we have a plan." Miroku said. He started dragging Inuyasha to Kaede's hut.

Kagome woke up with a headache. `What happened?' she thought. She looked around. Shippo was next to her asleep.

"Shippo. Shippo wake up." Kagome shook him and he opened his eyes.

"Okaa-san." Shippo said. He jumped into Kagome's arms. "Where are we? Where's Otou-san?"

"I don't know Shippo." She got up and walked toward the opening of the cave. She was just about there when a youkai popped out.

It was the same one that had grabbed her a while ago and sniffed her. He was wearing a black kimono. He looked human. His claws and eye color gave him away. It was an unnatural color green.

"You aren't going anywhere miko." He said.

"Who says that?" Kagome asked. She took a step back.

"I do. You are not to go anywhere. I believe the kitsune in your arms is your son? Well my master says to tell you if you do anything other than what I tell you he will be hurt."

Kagome hugged Shippo close to her. "Who is your master?"

"You will find out soon enough. I suggest you go back to where you were or something might happen to your son."

Kagome just walked back to where she was laying down earlier. She watched as he walked back outside. She had a pretty good idea who his master was. Now was not the time to think about that. She needed to get Shippo away from here and to safety.

She wanted to keep him safe even if that means she would get hurt. She would somehow have to get him to Inuyasha. How could she do that if she didn't even know where she was? She needed a plan and fast.
