A Quiet Moment

Kagome exhaled languidly, letting her tired muscles relax. Inuyasha's hand rested on her distended belly, his fingers moving rhythmically in an entirely soothing manner. Cuddling with him against the Goshinboku was one of her favorite ways to unwind after a long day of chores, miko instruction, and playing apprentice healer.

Little Itsuki was over at Sango's, the slayer returning one of the favors she owed her from her last pregnancy. Her dog-eared bundle of energy was probably having a blast with Sango and Miroku's kids. She would have to get Inuyasha to go pick him up before dusk. Kagome glanced down at her swollen belly and sighed. Kami, am I fat or what? She grinned ruefully. Inuyasha would yell at me if he heard that. Somehow she couldn't seem to feel bad about her appearance when he was around. The adoration and attraction she saw in his gaze never wavered, no matter how much her waistline expanded. If anything, they only increased as the presence of his child in her belly became more apparent. What's it going to be like having another child in our lives?

“What're you thinkin' about?”

“I was thinking about what life is going to be like when the new baby arrives. Siblings love to fight,” Kagome said, remembering some of the epic battles she and Souta had waged when they were little. Her ears hurt just thinking about it.

“Well, you're the one who wanted another kid,” Inuyasha chided playfully.

“You did too, baka.”

“Oh, so I'm a baka now, am I? In that case, maybe you'll have to find somebody else to rub your back tonight.”

“And maybe you'll have to find someone else to carry this child of yours,” Kagome replied smartly. “Now hurry up and get rubbing.” Shaking his head with a chuckle, Inuyasha complied, enjoying the pleased groans he coaxed from her throat. He didn't mind rubbing her back, but he would be glad when her pregnancy was over. Both of them were nervous and excited about the new addition to their family. Their lives would never be the same.
