“So…why are you after Naraku then?” Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango and Kagome were all seated around a fire built in one of the resistance's tents. Shippo had gone off with some kids who lived with their parents who were also warriors.

“Doesn't matter, just tell me if you have any information or not.” Inuyasha said. He was irritated that Miroku had been looking at Kagome, alias Hari, so much as if he was sizing her up for something. Knowing him, Inuyasha had a good idea for what.

“We don't know where he is, but we do know he left after the fall of the castle. Our spies saw him going southeast towards the eastern kingdom's castle. Apparently, he had met with the prince of the east and they've joined in an alliance of some sort.” Sango explained.

Kagome winced inwardly at the word spy. She couldn't believe someone who she thought of as a friend was also a spy. Then she heard the prince of the east and her eyes widened. Miroku noticed it.

“Hari, do you have some connection with the prince?” She shook her head no, careful to keep her face covered. Inuyasha came to her defense.

“What did you mean when you said `Alliance of sorts'?” Kagome relaxed, the attention away from her for the time being

“Naraku has agreed to forge a peace treaty between the two but, strangely the east is giving him more than is necessary. There must be some sort of blackmail going on.” At Inuyasha confused look, he added. “The east is giving him obscene amounts of money and land. Apparently the prince has personally given consent for all this.”

“Did he go personally?” Miroku shook his head. “Then I've got no interest in that.”

“Why don't you stay here until we get some more information? You could rest easy here and we should have something more information by the time our spies come back.”

Inuyasha looked like he wanted to argue, but decided against it. “How long will these spies take to get back?”

“They should be back late this evening. They only needed to check surrounding villages for traces of him.” Sango supplied.

“Fine, we'll stay.” He got up and Kagome got up following him. Miroku rose and spoke again.

“What can we offer you in terms of accommodations?”

“Somewhere private, thanks.” Miroku grinned lecherously.

“Oh, I was not aware of these circumstances between you and your companion here.” He stressed the word “companion” and winked at Inuyasha. “I suppose that would explain lending her your shirt…” his smile getting more and more annoying to Inuyasha.

“Shut up, lecher. Hari here just isn't too fond of you guys. Can't really blame her with your welcome, now can you?” He grabbed Kagome's arm and led her out of the tent before Miroku could ask a question he'd be smacked for.

“Naraku, what do you want?” Kouga asked, nowhere near comfortable in the urgency of Naraku's summon. “Where is my woman?”

“There was a minor problem with our siege. The girl was rescued by someone I didn't know about.” Kouga growled.

“Where is she? I'll kill whoever did this, she's mine!” He was fuming with rage. Naraku smirked. He was really starting to let Muramasa break him down. Soon he would be devoid of thought, a mere pawn lost in agony of his very existence.

“They are somewhere in the vicinity of the area south of the castle. We will find them soon.” Kouga opened his mouth to speak again but was stopped by a small knock at the door of the study they were in. A small demon walked in.

“Naraku, Sire, we have heard from one of our worms in the resistance forces against the North. They said that the half-demon you seek is there now. The princess is disguised but it must be her if she's with him.” Naraku smiled and Kouga snarled.

“Half-demon!? A disgusting half-demon did this?! I will kill him! Where is this place?!” Muramasa was reveling in his rage, stoking it like a fire.

Naraku laughed softly. “Do you wish to know?” He turned back to the messenger, “Tell them to lead a small contingent back to the resistance base, with Kouga as the leader.” The demon bowed and left the room.

Kouga turned to Naraku snarling, his eyes flashing deep purple every few seconds. “Naraku, you're information better be right or else I'll slaughter you instead.” Kouga left the room, Muramasa fueling his blood lust.

It was nighttime before Kagome could get away from the camp. She walked into the surrounding forest of the resistance's camp. She needed to let her face breath or she thought she'd go insane.

Once she was a good distance away, she let Inuyasha's shawl fall from her face as her face was hit by the cool night air. “Hey, what do you think you're doing?” She jumped as Inuyasha came out from behind her, looking irritated.

“Sorry, but this thing is too hot to wear on my face for that long. Just give me a sec to breathe ok?” Inuyasha snorted but didn't make any move to deny her request. She smiled at him and sat down. “So… how do you know Miroku and Sango?”

“A while back I saved his life, he was so grateful he promised he wouldn't let me get stuck by his men.” He snorted. “As if they could…”

“What about Sango?”.

“She and the monk like each other… don't see why she bothers.”

Kagome's eyes lit up and gaped at this. “But he just came on to me didn't he? Why would he do that if he's engaged to her? ESPECIALLY when she's right next to him?”

“Keh! That lecher comes on to every girl. He says he's cursed but that's total crap.”

“I see.” She motioned to him to sit down beside her. He looked like he was going to say no, but he did sit. She almost giggled at how he had his arms in between his legs. He looked a lot like a dog. Curiosity got the better of her and she reached for one of his ears.

“Hey! What are you doing girl?” He jerked his head away and glared at her. She really did giggle this time. “Stop laughing!”

“Sorry, it's just they look so cute.” He flushed at this and snorted, looking away.

“They're NOT cute.”

“I'm trying to compliment you. What's wrong with that?”

“Keh! Don't see why you bother.”

“I'm just being friendly, that's all.” Seeing he had no intention of being even remotely close to friendly she gave up. “Oh fine, be that way.” She lay back onto the grass with a sigh as she looked up at the stars.

Inuyasha noticed the moonlight as it danced on her face. She looked beautiful with the illumination. Noticing her looking up at him with a questioning look, he averted his gaze with a snort. `Was he just looking at me?' she thought.

She sat up, “Inuyasha…” She was interrupted by shouting back at the camp.

“Attack! We're under attack! Urgh!” In a flash Inuyasha was up.

“Cover your face and come on!” He darted off back towards camp drawing his sword as he went. Something was wrong, he could feel it. There was something evil coming at the camp… Far more evil than any demon he'd ever encountered.

Covering her face, Kagome got up to follow. `This is because I'm here…' she thought with a pang of guilt. `I have to help! Otherwise…I could never forgive myself!'
