Kagome sighed as she stared at the night sky. It had been less than a week since her life changed. Less than a week ago, her parents were alive, she was a princess and she had her life set. Yet, strangely she was sort of glad that her life was no longer completely predictable.

“Can't sleep out here?” She turned her head to see Sango approaching her. She smiled weakly and nodded, watching as Sango sat down beside her. “How are you feeling? This must be tough for you.”

Kagome nodded slowly, “Yeah. Things change so fast…” Tears formed in her eyes but she blinked them back. “I'm still adjusting to it all.”

Sango smiled and looked up at the stars. “I thought I should apologize to you…and set the record straight. I told you our target was always Naraku. Although you may not believe that, it's true…”

“Why is he your target anyway? Why are you after him?” Sango looked down at the ground with a sigh.

“A long time ago… I lived in a village of slayers. Naraku had come to our territory searching for something, he called it Muramasa. Apparently it was rumoured to be in our boundaries.”

“The village chieftain didn't like this and he challenged Naraku, I never knew why he did, but he was never wrong and trusted by everyone. Naraku barely escaped. A week after that we were attacked by a horde of demons… I was out slaying a demon in another village and when I got back…”

Kagome patted her on the back slowly. “I'm sorry for bringing these memories up Sango.” Sango shook her head.

“It's ok, you need to hear this. It's the only way to get you to trust me or Miroku.” She continued in a pained voice. “I began tracking down Naraku, searching after rumours until I found a demon that had been left behind by him.”

“The demon had gone insane with Naraku's controlling drugs, and attacked me. Miroku saved me.” She smiled at this and then frowned. “Of course that was also the first time he copped a feel…”

Kagome giggled. “Maybe he likes you.” Sango straightened up and blushed.

“He does that to every girl. It's nothing special.”

“He never did that to me.” Sango grinned back at her.

“That's because Inuyasha would make sure he never did it again.” She brought her hand across her wrist to emphasize her point and then laughed out loud. “Anyways, so that's more or less what happened, we came here after that and started up a resistance movement.”

“Ok and why does Miroku want to kill him as well?” Sango frowned.

“He was cursed; Naraku had injected him with a drug back when Miroku had heard about Naraku's quest. Miroku had heard about Muramasa and, although he doesn't know exactly what it is, he knows Naraku can't get it.”

“Muramasa…I think I've heard that somewhere…” She looked thoughtfully at the sky trying to remember. “It's no use, I can't think of where. Ah well, I'll get it sometime. Anyways, what does this drug do?”

“The drug is terrible…The most noticeable symptom are his nightmares. He's goes into convulsions randomly in his sleep. His life span is also significantly shorter as it works its way through his body very slowly…” Slight tears filled her eyes.

“The only way to stop it is to kill Naraku. All his drugs have a connection to him and if he dies, his drugs fail.” Sango stood up as she blinked back her sadness. “Well, I think we should be getting to sleep then, we need strength for the morning. We're all leaving after all.”

“Wait, you're coming too?” Sango turned around to look back at her.

“Of course, it would be easier to get him as a team and Miroku agrees.” She turned back around. “Remember Kagome, you're not the only one who wants to bring him down.” She left as Kagome rose.

`Well, at the very least it is nice to have company…Even if my life is so uncertain.' She shook her thoughts off and went back to the camp.

“Ok, well I think we're properly supplied with this.” Miroku slung his pack on his back and grabbed his staff. “Alright, let's go then.” Everyone was ready and carrying a pack containing rations for a short time, after that they'd rely on hunting for food. The exception was Shippo, who had been so obstinate with Kagome's decision not to bring him, she gave in.

Inuyasha grunted behind him. “One thing though, where the fuck are we going?” Miroku didn't answer. “All this preparation and you didn't even think of where?!” He bellowed at the monk.

“Now come on Inuyasha, I told you I didn't know where he was.” He began backing away as Inuyasha flexed his claws, advancing on him. “I'm sure we can work this out…”

Sango walked up to them and stopped Inuyasha's advance. “I think we should head south east, to the Shrine of the Mist.” They stopped to look at her.

Kagome came up to them, “What's that?”

“It's a place where some of the greatest priestesses are trained.” Inuyasha supplied with a grunt. “I don't think we're gonna get welcomed though…”

“Well Kagome needs to learn about her powers and besides, we may be able to get some answers on what Naraku's searching for…” Miroku nodded in agreement with Sango.

“That makes the most sense at this point, I'm with Sango. Plus, Naraku is injured right Inuyasha?” Inuyasha nodded. “Then the odds of finding him are slim, we'll wait until he shows himself, then we strike.” He waved them on to begin walking on the road leading southwest.

“What the fucks he looking for anyways?” Inuyasha asked. Miroku sighed.

“I don't know really, I only know the name Muramasa.” Inuyasha stopped dead in his tracks and rounded on him.

“Muramasa?!” He snarled, causing everyone to stop walking and stare at him.

“Do you know what that is Inuyasha?” Shippo popped up from Kagome's shoulder to ask.

“That's not something that he should get his hands on! If he gets that then....” He trailed off as his temper threatened to blind him. Kagome walked up to him to try and calm him down.

“Calm down, tell us what it is.” Inuyasha looked at her and calmed down just enough to be able to explain.

“It's an evil sword… it was sealed a long time ago because of its ability to corrupt and taint people.” With his words, memories of the fight with Kouga came back to him. “No fucking way!”

“Calm down Inuyasha!” Kagome told him. “What's wrong?” Inuyasha looked at her and calmed again. Something about her seemed to calm him, almost like his mother could… He shook away the thought to focus on the more important matter.

“I think he's already found it…” Miroku paled at this.

“What do you mean? How do you know that?” Inuyasha looked over at him.

“The wolf demon that attacked us the other day, I think he had it.” A silence fell over the group as the information soaked in.

Kagome broke the silence, “Wait… that's were I heard it from!” Four heads turned to look at her. “I read it in a book once, the story of the two great swords in the kingdom of Isceria.”

“I heard that once, isn't it just a story?” Shippo asked from his perch on Kagome's shoulder. Sango shook her head.

“No that happened, I've heard it too… but if I remember the story correctly, there was another sword. One that was of light?” Miroku nodded.

“I never heard either of the names but it all fits. Naraku would want such an object with his love of controlling people but…could even he resist the sword if it's this terrible?”

“Keh! I wouldn't put it past him that he's too evil for the blasted thing. Anyways Kagome, what was the other sword's name?” Inuyasha asked.

“I…don't know, the book didn't say.”

“That's because no one knows. It has been said that only the wielder of the sword knows the true name. A sword like Muramasa would easily find someone to use so its name is known but the other one is too pure.” Sango said

“But all that aside, does this mean this sword could beat the evil one?” Shippo piped up.

“It's the only thing that can beat it Shippo, the only thing…” Miroku sighed. “Well that confirms where we're going then. If anyone knows about the two swords, it'll be one of the shrine members.” They nodded as they turned to continue on their journey, sullen faced.
