Chapter 3 - Present Day Demon?

Strong arms pulled Kagome close. Her skin touched his, the warmth more than welcoming. She could feel his heavy breath on her neck as he lay his head on her shoulder. Slowly his mouth opened slightly and began to caress Kagome's neck gently. His lips were soft, softer than any Kagome had ever experienced. He began to kiss her neck completely, his tongue dancing on her skin, tasting her. A breath Kagome had not realized she was holding escaped her lips with a shudder. He pulled back and pushed lightly on her shoulders to be able to look her in the eyes, and so he could kiss her.

Kagome's eyes widened, her heart began beating faster and faster. The man she was looking at was not who she expected... No. This was a man with short, dark black hair, and silver highlights. Golden eyes that stared straight into Kagome's soul. The face of Kai.

Kagome almost pushed him away, but she couldn't help but feel completely safe here in Kai's arms. He slowly moved His head closer to hers. Their lips were millimeters from touching...

Kagome stared up at a pale white roof. Her roof. She rolled over, sighing as she went. It was an exhausted sound. Her dreams were tormenting her. She would see Inuyasha holding her, promising things to her. Now was the first time Kai was the man of her dreams.

The young woman laid in bed wondering to herself. *What's wrong with me? I can't stop thinking about Inuyasha since I left. And now my teacher? Get a grip Kagome...* She sat up, her hair spilled over her shoulders with some rogue knots and loops still protesting from being pushed on all night long.

“C'mon Inuyasha, stop whining.” A tiny fox child said as he leaped on the propped knee of Inuyasha, who was sitting against the Bone Eaters Well with his arms tucked in their opposite sleeves.

“I'm not whining, ok!?” Inuyasha snapped at Shippo, “I'm just thinking of what I'm gonna' plug this well up with so Kagome can't come back. Just like she wanted.” He said bitterly with the turn of his head.

“Look, I know you miss her. So why don't you just ask her to come back?”

“Kagome doesn't want to come back, Shippo,” Inuyasha practically spat the fox child's name.

“Shippo's right. The demon's have stopped attacking again. Maybe it's safe for Kagome to return.” Miroku said belatedly after thinking silently to himself for a while. Sango remained silent at Miroku's side, holding Kirara with one arm, the other brushing through the cat's soft fur. The monk had fully recovered in Kagome's absence. He was back to his normal womanizing ways. Yay!

“C'mon Inuyasha. I miss Kagome. Tell her that it's not her fault Miroku was injured.” Shippo whined.

Inuyasha shot Shippo a glare, a low growl following just before his fist knocked the fox off his knee. “Fine, I'll go. If it'll stop your whining. Puh, don't see why I have to go begging to Kagome just cause she thinks she's bad luck or somtin'.” Inuyasha said while pushing himself to his feet. He then leaped onto the edge of the well in a crouched stance. He stared down to well for a while... his eyes seemed as though he were afraid of something.

Miroku nonchalantly poked Inuyasha in the back with his staff, sending the half dog demon down the well tumbling and cursing. “Damn Miroku!”

Kai was dressed in his usual `black everything `clothes. His gold eyes scanned the class room as the students worked away at a test. A test Kagome had actually studied for. Without jumping back and forth through time, Kagome was finally able to keep up with work. She was doing better in school than before the well sent her back in time.

Kai was an excellent teacher. His notes were easy to follow and copy, his words explained things perfectly, and he always gave the least homework. Kagome had not felt more normal in ages. It was nice finally being able to live her life as a ninth grade student. Kai walked the room while tests he out, keeping a keen eye for cheating. His hand slid onto Kagome's shoulder. Her heart skipped a beat and her stomach fluttered. Why did his touch do that?

“Miss Kagome, you did an excellent job on last week's quiz. Please, try to fail a couple more things. I'd hate for my favorite student to graduate and no longer be able to take any of my courses.” Kai smiled and laughed a bit. That smile held so much warmth that the entire class was staring, all of them captured by his eyes. Kagome just stared at him too, she did not know what to say. “Back to work everyone, sorry to interrupt you.” And as if they were released from some sort of spell, they all went back to their own papers, and their own behavior. Yep, Kagome had never been happier.

Kagome walked home with a skip in her step. She was over joyed at what a great day it had been. “Miss Kagome.” Kai called from behind, walking toward her in a hurried manner. “May I have a word?” He said as he reached her and halted his forward progression.

Kagome turned with a confused look on her face, she was happy to see him, but she wondered what it was he had to say. “Yeah, sure.” Her words came out non-to-confident, being that they were unsure in their tone.

“Well...” Kai began...
“Kagome!” A voice in the distance shouted out to the two of them.

Kagome spun around to see who it was. Her eyes widened at the sight of Inuyasha. Surprised to see him here. He came to get her again. Kagome complained about it, but it truly made her feel important. She had missed him so much that she wanted to run into his arms. But she resisted. “Inuyasha?” She said with a couple of blinks.

“Who?” Kai mimicked Kagome's confused blinks.

“Kagome, what do you think you are still doing here? Those demon attacks were not your fault, ok?” Inuyasha said with very little patience or comfort. He said it like you would if you were agreeing with someone just to shut them up. “Now come on. We have jewel shards to find.” He began to turn and walk toward the well as if Kagome had already agreed to accompany him.

Kai stepped forward, looking Inuyasha up and down. His eyes locked on the sword at his side. “I'm not sure who you are, but there is no way I'm letting Kagome go with an armed, and obviously ill-tempered, stranger.”

“Kagome face-palmed, she couldn't believe Inuysha would pull this kind of stunt with normal people around. *Why do I bother?* She asked herself before stepping forward to identify that she knew this guy, but was cut off.

“What was that?” Inuyasha turned to glare at Kai, their golden eyes each attempting to break the other. “Look, I'm taking Kagome back where she belongs, and if you got problem with that-“ Inuyasha cracked his fingers for a dramatic effect, “-then you'll have me to deal with.”

Kagome had to stop this before it got out of hand. She stepped forward again, about to say something to Inuyasha when...

“Fine. But you are not taking her without a fight.” Kai said boldly, raising his arms and adjusting his footing to take on a fighting stance. He obviously knew some fighting style.

“Fine. Don't say I didn't warm ya'.” Inuyasha charged Kai, his claws raised to attack. Kai stood his ground, waiting for the right moment.

Inuyasha jumped and came down with a slash of his claws. Kai pushed out his right arm palm open and shouted as a pulse of energy shot out of his hand and collided with Inuyasha's chest. The shock sent him to his back on the ground. Kai was standing with his arm still out stretched, his eyes wide.

“What the hell did I just do?” He said sounding shocked and amazed at the power he had just released. Inuyasha pushed himself slowly off the ground to back to his feet.

“What the hell? You bastard...” Inuyasha began to charge again.
“Sit boy!” Inuyasha pulsed with power and his necklace glowed white. An invisible force pulled him to the ground with a loud CRASH. He lay face down stunned while Kagome slowly approached Kai, wondering...

Kai stared at Kagome, his eyes were wide and his hand was trembling. “I don't know what just happened.”

“I knew there was something wrong about you. You reek of demon. I just didn't want to believe it.” Inuyasha had managed to raise up again. He was glaring at Kai, the demon...
