A/N: I was yelled at and mildly threatened so I decided to get on with the chapter . (Haha, that's a weird face.)
Chapter Six
Miroku was wrong. Not terribly wrong, but wrong enough for Kagome. Instead of arriving back at six, they got back to the village at 7. By then she was quite worn out from the walking, not to mention the whole Kouga fiasco.
She put her things down in Kaede's hut, and stretched. A part of her just wanted to fall asleep, but she decided against it.
“Hey Sango, wanna go for a bath?”
“Sure Kagome. It'd be nice after the long walk.”
Kagome nodded and reached into her bag for bathing supplies. When she had found them, the girls exited the hut coming face to face with a seemingly calm Miroku.
“Am I correct in hearing that you are going for a bath?”
“Yes, Houshi-sama, and if you follow us I cannot promise that you'll be breathing comfortably tomorrow.”
“Point taken. I guess I'll just stay back…” The monk responded with a melodramatic sigh.
Kagome giggled and started walking towards the hot spring. She called over her shoulder “Be sure to tell Inuyasha. Half demon or not, I can still cause him some severe harm.”
Miroku chuckled, his mind obviously wallowing in a gutter somewhere. “If I can find him.”
Shippou peeked out from behind the hut, and ran after the girls with a squeak of “I'm coming too!”
The girls found the hot spring with few problems, and those that occurred were nothing more than a spider landing in Kagome's hair. On it's own that would not have been so bad, but Shippou decided to come to the rescue, and jumped on Kagome's head to bat it away. Needless to say, the sudden addition of weight wasn't too comfortable, and Kagome ended up falling on her behind.
Still a little sore from said event, Kagome undressed and slipped into the water eagerly, welcoming the soothing effect it had on her worn muscles. She gave a happy sigh and grabbed the soap.
Sango helped Shippou into his inflatable pool ring then joined Kagome.
“Nice night, eh?”
“Mhm…” Kagome responded. She wanted to ask Sango about Inuyasha's behaviour that day but couldn't really figure out how to do it.
“Kagome, is Inuyasha acting all weird because you kissed him yesterday?”
“Shippou!” She exclaimed, and blushed. Sure, she wanted to discuss Inuyasha's behaviour, but it wasn't exactly the segue she had been hoping for.
Sango laughed, not bothering to hide her amusement at the younger girl's flustered state.
“Well, he could be right Kagome. Plus when you said that Kouga couldn't take you away from him… He must be pretty confused to say the least. Even though he shouldn't be.”
“What do you mean Sango?”
“He loves you, it's obvious, and you love him. Don't try to deny it, you practically shouted it out today.”
Kagome opened her mouth to object, but found it pointless. It was true right? The latter part was anyways. She just slumped against a rock and let out a sigh.
“I knew it! Just tell him, Kagome!” Shippou squeaked happily.
Kagome sighed again. “Shippou…” she began but couldn't begin to explain her doubts to the child. “I just can't.” she finished lamely.
There was an uncomfortable beat of silence.
“You think that's what's bothering Inuyasha? What I said in front of Kouga?”
“I guess. It was only then that he started acting strangely. What you said, the fact that you protected him from Kouga, and the kiss… Plus he's completely romance illiterate.”
Kagome giggled.
Shippou looked between the two girls wondering for a moment what illiterate meant before deciding it probably meant something along the lines of `Inuyasha's an idiot' which he agreed with entirely. The kit went back to floating happily around the spring.
Kagome watched him idly and smiled.
Miroku decided it was time to take his leave. He couldn't risk being seen anymore. Plus he had heard enough. In his opinion it wasn't possible to have seen enough, but it would be alright for the time being.
`Maybe I should talk with Inuyasha.' He thought while walking.
It seemed this was destined to come true as he found Inuyasha sitting in a tree fairly nearby to the springs.
“Haven't been spying have you?”
The hanyou turned his gaze from the sky to find the monk below his tree.
Miroku saw he'd get no response, so continued. “The girls and Shippou are at the hot springs.”
Inuyasha glared at him. “You were coming from that direction. Care to offer an explanation, monk?” He jumped from the tree and took a threatening step towards Miroku. “I won't hesitate to tell Sango you were spying you know.” He grinned, showing off a fang.
Miroku inwardly cringed at the thought. “I wasn't looking,” he lied “Just listening to their conversation.”
“Well, I won't hesitate to tell Sango you were eavesdropping then!”
“You don't even want to know what I heard? Hm, pity.” He walked away examining a mark on his staff.
“What's that supposed to mean?”
“Hm? Oh, they were talking about you. That's all.” He turned from the hanyou and smirked. He knew that Inuyasha's curiosity would get the better of him.
“Really. And I'm just supposed to step into your little trap am I?”
“Trap? No, I really think you would be interested in knowing! I'm offended you would think so lowly of me.”
Inuyasha snorted. “As ifyou aren't used to it already.” There was a slight pause, then a sigh. “What did they say?”
Miroku turned to face his friend, a small smile gracing his lips. “Kagome loves you and is concerned about your behaviour.” He turned and started the walk back to the village.
Inuyasha stood there in shock for a moment before blushing furiously, and running after Miroku. “WHAT!”
The monk stopped walking and chuckled. “Kagome said something about how your relationship was complicated, and Sango said it shouldn't be since you two obviously love each other.” Inuyasha's blush deepened. “Kagome sighed and leaned back, body language obviously saying that this is true but she didn't want to say it out loud.”
Inuyasha stared into space for a moment. “Wait, leaned back? Body language? You lecher! You said you weren't watching!” Inuyasha hit him over the head.
“Ouff! Well, that's not really the matter at hand. You should talk to Kagome. Perhaps explain your behaviour to her since you obviously aren't going to tell me.”
“Huh? What are you talking about?”
“Come on Inuyasha. You've been lost in thought all day, barely responding, staring into space, and, well, not yourself. All of us have noticed, and Kagome probably suspected you to be upset with her.”
“What? Why would she think a stupid thing like that!”
“I wonder.” Miroku's statement was dripping with sarcasm.
Inuyasha growled, and jumped into a nearby tree.
`I can't go back right now.'
Miroku looked at the hanyou quizzically, but decided it might be better to leave him to his thoughts.
Soon after Miroku arrived back at the village and found an activity he could easily pretend he had been doing the whole time, Kagome Sango and Shippou returned. They made no move to kill him, so Miroku figured he was more or less in the clear.
“Hello again Miroku!” Kagome looked around briefly. “Where's Inuyasha?”
“Welcome back Kagome-sama. He's most likely up a tree still contemplating” he paused “whatever would possibly be on his mind.”
Kagome looked at him curiously. `He knows something.'
“Where is he, Miroku? Don't lie.”
The monk sighed and rose to his feet. “He is in the forest. Undoubtedly close by too.”
“Thanks Miroku. I'm gonna go see what's wrong with him.”
Sango gave her a little glance that seemed to say `Remember what we talked about.'
Kagome blushed slightly, and turned to leave.
A/N: Sorry, it kinda sucks, eh? xD I'll try to make the next chapter more exciting. …Although this story isn't really very exciting to start with. Meh, who cares. Well, if you'll excuse me, I have to go watch Inuyasha now! Gotta love nightly anime marathon-like things.
