Making it back into the village in record time, Kagome rushed to Miroku's and Sango's hut. As she stopped outside the door, Kilala, Sango's pet demon cat, greeted her.

" Kilala is either Sango, or Miroku in there? It's an emergency." Kagome said. Kilala squeaked once in agreement and walked inside. A minute later, both Sango and Miroku appeared in the doorway.

" Kagome what happened. Aren't you suppose to be with Inu-yasha right now?" Sango asked

" That's the problem. Kikyou attacked us. She struck him with one of her purifying arrows. I pulled it out, but I don't think it was quick enough. Oh kami Sango I think he's dying." Kagome cried at her two friends who were now concerned from the silver haired hanyou's life.

" Don't worry Kagome, he can't die. That's just not him" Mirkou said as he grabbed his staff and walked out with the other two girls and Kilala. When they reached the clearing, Miroku could sense the hand of death everywhere in the clearing, waiting slowly to claim the hanyou in the middle of it. As Sango approached her fallen comrade, she knew he had little time left. Being a demon exterminator all her life, Sango learned to see the certain signs in a hanyou, when they are close to death. Inu-yasha was close to the hands of death, and was untreatable by anyone who could help him. Staring at Inu-yasha's deathly pale face, a thought crossed Kagome's mind He's going to die, and there's nothing you can do about it. He's beyond your reach now. Sobs threatened to take over her body, as she knelt down beside him, a few tears dripped down her face and landed on his cheeks, rousing him from his slumber.

" Kagome? Why are you crying, you now I can't stand it." Inu-yasha asked his mate softly

" I'm sorry I ever dragged you here. If I had more control, or hadn't bought Kikyou's image, we wouldn't be here in the first place. If it hadn't be for me you wouldn't be dieing right now." Kagome sobbed

" Kagome listen to me. This is not your fault. I got to cocky with Kikyou and I paid for it. Please don't blame yourself. The last thing I want you to do is blame yourself for my own stupidly." Inu-yasha told her " I don't have much time left Kagome. Just remember that no matter what happens after this, I'll always be protecting you." He told her as death came and claimed him.

I~ Of all the things I believed in, I just wanna get it over with. Tears form behind my eyes, but I do not cry, counting the days that pass me by. I've been searching deep down in my soul. Words that I'm hearing are starting to grow old, feels like I'm starting all over again, the last 3 years were just pretend. And I said goodbye to you, goodbye to everything that I knew, you were the one I loved, the one thing I tried to hold on to. ~

Kagome slowly got up from her mates lifeless body and looked at Sango, void of any emotion. She continued turning a started to walk off.

" Kagome-chan. You need to come top terms with his death. Going after Kikyou won't bring him back." Sango said

" I know. I'm sorry guys I need some time to think I'll be in my own time." Kagome said as she ran to the well and jumped through into her own time.

" I can't be leave he left me. He made a promise. He promised that he wouldn't leave." Kagome said as she remembered his promise to her and their first kiss.

~Flashback~

A roaring campfire, kept the group warm as they sat and ate the ramen Kagome had provided for them. Watching the fire closely and shivering ever so slightly Kagome sat trying to eat her bowl of ramen, but have not doing so. A silver and red blur came up and sat down by Kagome, noticing her state of discomfort.

" What's the matter Kagome?" Inu-yasha asked

" Nothing I'm just cold." Kagome replied as Inu-yasha started to take off his red outer kimono.

" Here It'll do you more good than me right now." Inu-yasha replied offering his coat to her

" Are you sure, I mean won't you get cold. All I need is a sick Hanyou. Who would help me look for the shards then?" Kagome replied jokingly

" Kagome go on take it. Besides, I don't get cold as easily as you do." Inu-yasha said choosing his words carefully.

" Thanks. I have a question." Kagome replied

" What?" Inu-yasha asked

" What's going to happen after we collect all the jewel shards? Will you still want me here? Will I want to stay?" Kagome asked fingering her quarter of the Shikon Jewel.

" I down honestly know. But what I do know is that I'll never stop wanting you around. Collecting jewel shards is not your only purpose here Kagome. We all need you here. I need you here. No matter what happens I'll always be with you." Inu-yasha said looking at Kagome. Leaning forward Inu-yasha pressed his lisp gently to Kagome's in a small kiss. The kiss that was intended to be small took the next step and became one of passion, as Inu-yasha liked her lower lip, seeking entrance. Gasping at the feelings, Kagome parted her lips slightly allowing Inu-yasha enough room to dart in and run his tongue over her own. Breaking away from each other, the pair took time to let what just happened sink in, while the others cheered like maniacs.

~End Flashback~

"He promised. And yet he broke that promise." Kagome said as the dam broke, and the tears started to fall again.

~I use to get lost in your eyes, and it seems that I can't live a day without you. Close my eyes and you'll chase the thoughts away, to a place where I'm blinded by the light, but it's not right. Goodbye to you, goodbye to everything that I knew, you were the one I loved, the one thing I tried to hold on to. ~

She walked into the shrine house, tears still falling but paid not attention to the loving concerns of her family. Walking up the stairs she whipped into the bathroom and locked the door. Running the hot water, Kagome began to undress and slipped into the water, trying to drown out her sorrows.

~ And it hurts to want everything, and nothing at the same time. I want what's yours and what's mine, I want you, but I'm not giving into shame. Goodbye to you, goodbye to everything that I knew, you were the one I loved, the one thing I tried to hold on to. Goodbye to you, goodbye to everything that I knew, you were the one I loved, the one thing I tried to hold on to. The one thing I tried to hold on to. And when the stars fall, I will lie awake, you're my shooting star. ~

Kagome walked slowly to her first class the next day, slowly trudging through the snow on her collage campus. Arriving 10 minutes late to class, her professor asked her to explain her absent.

" Well Miss Higurashi. Why were you late to my class, and please note, that I don't take feeble excuses as answers." Mr. Folds asked Kagome in front of her psychology class.

" Well you see, Mr. Folds. My ma-boyfriend was killed in a motorcycle accident over the weekend. It's been rather hard on me. So If you'll just excuse me I think I'm going to drown my sorrows in a root beer float." Kagome told her teacher as she walked away from her class. Kagome walked down the main street of Tokyo with her milkshake in hand, thinking about the events of the past couple days. I've never skipped a class before, or yelled at a teacher like that. What has he done to me? I have to admit he'd be proud of me though. Kagome thought as she continued walking down the street. As she reached the corner, she bumped into a man, knocking them both onto the ground.

" Oh I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying attention." Kagome said reaching out a hand to help the stranger up

" It's okay. I should've been paying more attention as well." The stranger said as he looked at the girl who had helped him up.

" Inu-yasha?"
