“You really need to loosen up, Sesshoumaru.” Kagome beamed. “I already apologized, isn’t that enough.” Sesshoumaru snorted indignantly. Kagome tilted her head sweetly. She handed the sleeping Daiki to Aya and waited for her to vanish. Kagome stood and walked towards Sesshoumaru. She sat in front of Sesshoumaru and giggled softly. Sesshoumaru growled in a attempt to frighten her. It was obliviously fruitless.
Sesshoumaru didn’t know why he stayed. He could have left, tried to catch her of guard later. Or just let it go and return home. But he stayed. Kagome was the woman he would mate with, but she didn’t remember him. But she was as kind as he remembered her.
“Alright if it means that much to you.” Kagome sighed and closed her eyes. Sesshoumaru watched in shock as Kagome dropped her barrier and leaned towards him. Her lovely eyes still closed.
Sesshoumaru didn’t know how to react. She left herself completely open. He ran his eyes across her features. Her hair was longer, silky and black as onyx. Her soft, moist lips allowed a small smile to play across them. She rested her hands on his knee. And Sesshoumaru felt the energy just radiating off her. He leaned in, he hadn’t experienced the softness of her mouth in five years. He wondered if that was the same also. Softly he chuckled and raised his hand slowly. Kagome remained perfectly still. Sesshoumaru wondered how she could be so trusting. He smiled as he plucked her nose.
“Hey!” Kagome exclaimed as she jumped and grabbed her nose. “That hurt!”
Sesshoumaru laughed. “Revenge is always painful.”
Kagome sighed and sat back with her legs crossed. “Yeah well the best revenge, is to let it go.” Kagome grunted as she felt for blood.
“Relax, you are not bleeding.” Sesshoumaru pointed out.
“That doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt!” Kagome said angrily.
“Miko...” Sesshoumaru began.
“Kagome.” She corrected.
Sesshoumaru eyes were soft. “Kagome, why is it you have no memory of me?”
Kagome looked up from rubbing her nose. Her eyes narrowed as if trying to read something behind his eyes. “Should I have a memory of you?” She asked.
“Yes.”
“Where you my friend?”
“No.”
“Where you my enemy?”
“No.”
Kagome forgot about her nose and folded her hands in her lap. “Tell me Sesshoumaru, if we weren’t friends and we weren’t enemies, what were we.”
Sesshoumaru didn’t waste a moment. He leaned over and caught Kagome’s mouth with his. Kagome’s eyes widened with surprise. She didn’t relax until he pulled her closer and ran his fingers through her hair. Kagome slowly closed her eyes and returned the kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck and moaned gently. Sending jolts to Sesshoumaru’s heart. It was the same. The touch, the scent, the taste. He remembered.
They’re moment was interrupted by the cries of Daiki. Kagome pulled away and sighed. Aya was standing behind her with Daiki in her arms. The child hated to wake up without Kagome. He cooed when Kagome held him against her chest.
Kagome began humming the same song she used to sooth Rin when she twisted her ankle. Sesshoumaru thought back to that day. Once he wanted her for the power, but she did something to him that day, although their moment was brief. It was something Sesshoumaru has never experienced in his entire life.
“Kagome?” Sesshoumaru said quietly.
Kagome looked up into his eyes, oh those eyes. He could stare into them forever, just like that. “Yes?”
Sesshoumaru swallowed hard. “Come with me to my castle.” Sesshoumaru voice was soft and hopeful. Kagome’s sent a chill in his heart. She looked regretful.
“I cannot, I am needed out here.” Kagome said sadly.
Sesshoumaru couldn’t stand the rejection. He always got what he wanted. He was tempted to drag her there if she wanted to or not. But that was no way to win her heart. “Alright, someday.”
Kagome smiled. “Yes, someday.”
Sesshoumaru shifted uncomfortably. He needed to change the subject. Daiki whined and handed him a new topic.
“That child, why do you carry him with you?” Sesshoumaru asked.
“I made a promise to his Mother.” Kagome was relieved for the change of subject. “I promised I would take care of him.”
“That is unlike a traveling Miko.” Sesshoumaru responded. “There is a lot of danger in these lands.”
“I am aware of the danger.” Kagome smiled down on the child she came to love more than anything. “But he needs me.” Daiki smiled and reached for Kagome’s hair. Kagome looked back towards Sesshoumaru. He was staring at her, lost in thought.
“Tell me about my past.” Kagome asked. There was once a time where she excepted the fact that she could not remember her past. Kagome excepted this as fate. So she didn’t burden herself by trying to force her memories. But now someone returned from her past and he knew her, he knew who she was once.
Sesshoumaru had no intention of lying, he could of said that they were in love. That they traveled together with plans of becoming mates. But that wasn’t his nature.
“You were inexperienced and innocent.” Sesshoumaru began. “I think that is the only thing that has changed about you.” He saw her smile. “You traveled across the country in search of a hanyou named Naraku. And the Shikon no Tama he stole.”
“Naraku?” Kagome asked puzzled. She suddenly remember what Sesshoumaru said before. “Who is Inuyasha?” She saw Sesshoumaru’s brow furrow, like he ate bad fruit.
“He is my Brother.” Sesshoumaru finally said.
“You said I was his,” Kagome reminded him.
“I did.” Sesshoumaru agreed. “You traveled with him in search of the Jewel. You, two humans, a kitsune and fire neko.” Sesshoumaru began regretting the conversation.
“And what happened.” Kagome pressed on.
“It was because of you Naraku was finally destroyed.” Sesshoumaru continued. “I’m am not sure what happened but when I opened my eyes, you were being carried off by a dragon.”
Kagome remembered someone calling out for her. “Sesshoumaru, did you call out for me?”
“I said your name, but it would have been impossible for you to hear me.” Sesshoumaru confessed.
“Someone called out for me, they sounded so hurt.” Kagome slumped sadly. “Who called for me?”
“Inuyasha.”
Natsumi was tending to her herbs when she heard a flock of finches approaching the village. She looked up at smiled. Natsumi dropped the basket of herbs and ran back to the hut.
“Shippou! Sayuri approaches!” She called out happily. Natsumi was happy. She would be able to find out if Kagome was safe, and reunite her with her friends.
Shippou stood up quickly and spied the hundreds of birds that approached. Inuyasha noticed many of villagers run happily to greet Sayuri. Whenever the finch youkai returned, she brought news of Kagome and special herbs and presents from the kind Miko.
Inuyasha’s hopes went up more than usual at that point. That bird has been with Kagome recently. She could tell him exactly were she was. The villagers stood in a circle as the hundreds of birds circled above. They stepped back as the birds twirled faster and faster. Inuyasha and Shippou watched as a small tornado formed. But there was no wind. The villagers looked up happily with they’re arms outstretched. Suddenly out of the whirlwind small parcels fell. Along with toys and scrolls. The villagers caught what the could and laughed.
Inuyasha and Shippou raised an eyebrow to each other. They fixed the gaze back on the whirlwind that began to slow. When it was gone all that was left was one tiny bird. The finch flew down and landed on Natsumi’s outstretched finger.
“Why hello Natsumi-sama!” The tiny finch chirped. Sayuri was pure white with a orange beak. She had happy, round blue eyes. Sayuri was still very young but would follow Kagome forever.
“Well, well Sayuri. Kagome-sama was certainly generous this time.” Natsumi smiled.
Sayuri laughed. “Well there would have been more, but your message sounded urgent.”
Natsumi grew a little serious. “It is very urgent Sayuri.” Natsumi said. “There are some important people here to see Kagome-sama.” Sayuri flew off Natsumi and followed her to meet Inuyasha and Shippou.
Sayuri eyed the youkai suspiciously. “Identify yourselves.” Sayuri demanded. Shippou wanted to snicker at the finch’s small voice. Her attempt to sound threatening only made the situation even more funny.
“Sayuri, this is Shippou. Kagome-sama’s son.” Natsumi beamed. Sayuri narrowed her eyes. And flew to face Shippou.
“He is kitsune.” Sayuri pointed out.
“Kagome-sama cared for him before she came to us.” Natsumi explained.
Sayuri flew up and glared at Inuyasha who wasn’t hesitant to return the dirty look. “And this hanyou?”
Natsumi sighed replaying the tragic story in her mind. “He is called Inuyasha. He was Kagome-sama’s intended.” Natsumi explained woefully.
“Intended?” Sayuri repeated, with apparent doubt in her voice.
Natsumi walked past them and held open the door flap. “Come inside and rest your wings, Sayuri.” Natsumi offered. “I’m sure our guests can answer all your questions.
He was also curious about Daiki. Sometimes the youki spikes became more powerful as if it was fighting something. Sesshoumaru noticed that he was on solid foods already and the goat was long gone. Sesshoumaru did not think that human children developed so fast. Sometimes as he rode in the basket Kagome carried on her back. He thought he saw white hair and tiny dog ears. But it was only a flash.
“Kagome?” Sesshoumaru said one night.
“Hm?” Kagome was rocking Daiki and singing. Sesshoumaru knew he heard purring.
“What is Daiki’s true nature.” Kagome looked up sharply at the question. She furrowed her brow and seemed angry at first. Sesshoumaru never faltered his gaze.
Kagome softened her expression. She didn’t have to lie. She trusted him. “I gave Daiki his name. Because his Mother valued his life more than anything. She gave her son to me, because with me he would survive.” Kagome ran her thumb over the charm around his wrist. Carefully she pulled the charm off and revealed to Sesshoumaru the hanyou child.
Sesshoumaru was silent for a while. He remember Kenta, and his Sister who claimed that her hanyou child died at birth. Sesshoumaru shook himself from his thoughts, no this wasn’t Kenta’s nephew. This was Kagome’s son.
“You are a good person, Kagome.” Sesshoumaru said finally.
During their short travel together, they became closer, and very comfortable. They indulged in talk about they’re lives. Ideas for what the future would be like. What they wanted in life. Sesshoumaru became content. He had never been truly content before.
“Kagome, what do you think of me?” Sesshoumaru asked her.
“You mean do I see you as a monster?” Kagome asked. Sesshoumaru remained silent. Kagome giggled as she took Daiki from Aya’s hold. Sesshoumaru watched her with genuine curiosity. Kagome turned and place Daiki in Sesshoumaru’s arms. He fumble clumsily trying his best not to wake the child. Kagome laughed playfully. Sesshoumaru gave her a irritated frown.
“I think your perfect.” Kagome said sweetly.
Kagome knew he was following. “There is death all around us.” Kagome stated.
Sesshoumaru walked besides her. “Yes.”
Kagome stopped in her tracks and looked ahead. There was a swirling black cloud that blocked there path. Sesshoumaru could not smell youkai. He touched the hilt of his sword. Kagome already had a arrow pointed at the black mass.
“Miko!” Kagome exclaimed. “What have you done here!”
Sesshoumaru looked at Kagome then the mass. He kept his expression straight faced. ‘A miko,’ he thought.
“Kagome-sama,” a dark female voice called out from th dark cloud. “I am pleased to finally meet you.”
Kagome’s grip on her arrow tightened. “I will not ask you again!” Kagome commanded angrily.
Sesshoumaru and Kagome watched as the cloud dispersed and a tall attractive Miko appeared. She had fair skin and dark eyes. She wore a shinto outfit similar to Kagome’s except her haori was grey and her hakamas were black. Her hair was medium length and a black rose was tucked behind her ear.
“I knew you would come Kagome-sama.” The dark Miko laughed sinisterly. “You always help those is need, even if it means your life.”
“How do you know me?” Kagome never faltered her angry gaze. She knew something happened to the villagers, and she also knew this woman had something to do with it.
“Silence!” The miko commanded. “I speak now.” The miko was trembling with anger. “My name is Kiyoshi. I am the most powerful priestess in the country.” Kiyoshi sneered. “But the people don’t want a real miko, they want you! You who are weak! Associating yourself with vile creatures such as that!” Kiyoshi pointed a accusing finger in Sesshoumaru’s direction. “I know about the hanyou child.” Kiyoshi smiled evilly. “And yet the people called for you!” Kiyoshi was screaming now. “I was right here and they still called for you!”
“So you are jealous?” Kagome said growing impatient. “A miko’s duty is to help the people who cannot help themselves. Are you saying you wish for something in return, for your services?”
“I want glory! I want immortality!” Kiyoshi answered. “And you will gave it to me.”
Kagome caught the sound of a wailing baby. She knew that cry. Suddenly another cloud appeared besides Kiyoshi. She reached in and pulled Daiki from the cloud. Two small paper puppets fell from his blanket. Kagome already knew Aya and Amaya were gone. Kiyoshi chuckled at Kagome’s angry expression. She reached in the blanket and pulled the concealment charm from Daiki’s arm, revealing his true nature. Kiyoshi gave the child, that released a tiny growl, a disgusted look.
“Release him!” Kagome screamed out.
“Heh, pathetic. You do not deserve the gifts you were blessed with.” Kiyoshi taunted. “If you will use them in favor of these beasts.”
Sesshoumaru had heard enough, he unsheathed tokijin and went in for attack.
“Sesshoumaru! Don’t!” Kagome said running after him. Kiyoshi laughed and lifted her hand. She began to call upon a strong purifying energy. Sesshoumaru was blinded for a moment until he realized that Kagome jumped in front of the attack. She didn’t put up a barrier because it would have reflected and hit Daiki. Instead she took the attack within herself to save both youkai.
When Kiyoshi realized that Kagome stepped in front of Sesshoumaru she intensified the energy. She laughed until the attack suddenly stopped. Kiyoshi’s eyes widened when she tasted the blood that filled her mouth. She shook as she looked down and saw a large blade withdrawing from her chest. She fell to the ground, dead. The attacker picked up the crying baby and ran to Sesshoumaru who was kneeling besides Kagome. She was struggling to stand. Sesshoumaru turned and smiled.
“It’s nice to see you, Brother.” Sesshoumaru said as he held Kagome against him.
Kagome slowly lifted her head and saw the silver and crimson hanyou standing before her. His golden eyes were sad and on the verge of tears.
“Inu...yasha.” Kagome smiled before passing out in Sesshoumaru’s arms.
Rin carried a small candle and lit a couple of lamps for Kagome to see. She smiled and walked over to Kagome, placing a gentle hand on Kagome’s forehead.
“Hello, Kagome-sama.” Rin smiled. “How are you feeling?” Kagome rested her bow in her lap. She looked at the beautiful young woman and saw the purity in her eyes. She was looked like the type of woman who enjoyed running barefoot in the forest and picking flowers.
“Where am I, where’s Daiki.” Kagome asked desperately.
“You are in Sesshoumaru-sama’s castle. Your son is safe with him and Inuyasha-sama.” Rin reassured. “He haven’t stopped crying since he got here.”
Kagome could hear the sound of Daiki cries outside the door. “Is he okay?”
“Yeah he’s fine.” Rin smiled. “He is a beautiful inu hanyou. I always hoped you would come back and marry Sesshoumaru-sama though.” Rin sighed.
Kagome looked at the girl puzzled. ‘Another person from my past?’ She thought. “What is your name?”
“Yes, Sesshoumaru-sama said you had no memory of us. My name is Rin.” Rin sighed. She wanted Kagome to come and live with them. But she never returned from the battle with Naraku. “He thought you died after the fight with Naraku. Inuyasha-sama and Shippou-kun never gave up.” Rin leaned in closer as if telling a secret. “I don’t think Sesshoumaru-sama gave up either.” Rin whispered. Rin stood quickly. “Now it’s time for dinner. You could wear your own clothes or you can wear one of the kimonos in the closet. After that just follow the cries of your son. Rin left Kagome to her thoughts.
‘They thought I was dead.’ Kagome thought. ‘But they never forgot me.’ Kagome felt as if someone was tearing her heart in two. ‘Why can’t I remember them!’ Kagome wanted to cry. It seemed like in a instant her the life she knew was completely turned upside down. She eventually got up of bed and dressed in her own clothes. Kagome felt eyes upon her. She turned to see the hanyou called Inuyasha staring at her. Kagome just stared and lost herself into his unfamiliar, golden eyes.
Inuyasha watched the woman he loved stare back at him. He had let Sesshoumaru carry her back while he carried the screaming baby. Sayuri had led he and Shippou to the west, where Kagome was traveling. He immediately caught her scent, along with his brother’s. There was nothing to stop him from pressing forward. Then he saw her. Beautiful, defiant, strong. When that woman attacked her. His mind went blank with rage. The only thing that made his heart beat again was the sound of her saying his name. And now here she was. She wasn’t weak anymore. She wasn’t afraid. Inuyasha just wanted to touch her, to breath in her scent again. He wanted to tell her never to leave him again.
“Hello.” Kagome smiled nervously. “I’m Kagome. You must be Inuyasha.” Kagome took in a deep breath. ‘Real smart Kagome, he knows who you are!’
Inuyasha smiled sadly. His eyes filled with tears. He stepped closer to Kagome and leaned towards her.
‘My, aren’t I the popular one.’ Kagome chuckled to herself. ‘I wonder what my life was like back then.’ Kagome looked up and studied Inuyasha’s face, looking for anything that could jog her memory. “Um...” She began to say.
Next thing she knew her face was pressed into the hanyou’s chest and his arms were wrapped tightly around her. Kagome could feel the sobs he was trying to suppress. So she cried for the both of them. Inuyasha’s voice rose up over her sobs.
“Kagome.” He said he voice choking back tears. “I’m sorry...I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you.” Kagome’s eyes shot open, when she heard a angry voice call out to her.
‘I’m saying I’ll protect you!’ It was him. Kagome had never had a flash of memory come to her before. She held Inuyasha as tightly as he held her. ‘I knew him once.’ She thought to herself. Kagome saw a image of Sesshoumaru flash in her mind. ‘But I know Sesshoumaru now.’ Kagome pulled away.
“I should tend to Daiki.” Kagome said softly. Inuyasha nodded. And took her by the hand leading her to the main dining hall. Kagome took Daiki from Sesshoumaru’s exhausted arms. Daiki opened his eyes to see what strange new person was holding him now. Kagome smiled down on him and his eyes lit up. Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru breathed a sigh of relief when Daiki finally stopped crying. Sesshoumaru stood and placed a hand on Kagome shoulder. And was met with a low growl from Inuyasha. Kagome gasped as another voice came to her.
‘Has anyone stopped to asked Kagome-sama what she wanted?’ It was the voice of a man she couldn’t recognize. She saw two men with long, flowing silver hair. They had their back turned to her.
Kagome looked around her she looked at the two Brother’s with confusion in her eyes. She turned on her heels and bolted back to the room she woke in.
Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru watched her run. “Inuyasha?” Sesshoumaru said quietly.
“Yeah?”
“I think she’s starting to remember.”
Inuyasha smiled. “Good.” He reached inside his haori and pulled out the dormant Shikon no Tama. Slowly a faint, pink glow appeared.
Nice! The jewel is back! Could that be the reason Kagome is starting to have memories! Or is it Inuyasha’s powerful undying love! You won’t know unless you read on! Review and I’ll keep writing!

Shippou and Inuyasha sat outside Natsumi’s hut. Inuyasha was grunting and shifting. Shippou sat quietly and watched the sky. They had not slept much after recounting the story of Kagome’s disappearance. They sat outside waiting for Kagome’s retainer to come. Natsumi sent out a message to Sayuri after hearing the story they told her. Ichiro listened outside the hut. After the story was complete, he disappeared into the forest with his armor and sword. Kagome hadn’t expected Sesshoumaru to stay as long as he did. It’s been two weeks and he was still following her from the trees. Kagome had stopped at two villages since Daiki’s and helped in every way she was needed. Sesshoumaru did not make himself known to the villagers, but kept a protective watch over Kagome. He was also curious about Daiki. Sometimes the youki spikes became more powerful as if it was fighting something. Sesshoumaru noticed that he was on solid foods already and the goat was long gone.

Kagome found herself in another small village. It was quiet. Too quiet. Kagome left Daiki with Aya and Amaya and entered the village. Sesshoumaru could smell the death in the air and dropped down from the sky to follow Kagome.Kagome knew he was following.

Kagome woke with a start. “Daiki!” She screamed. She looked around frantically it was dark in the room. She wasn’t dressed in her normal miko outfit. Instead she had on a long silk yukata. The bed was large enough for her and another large person. Her bow and arrows were resting by the bed and her clothes were folded neatly on a small stool. Kagome tried to focus your eyes to the dark. The room wasn’t particularly large. It was simple with a mirror and bench and a small closet. Kagome was about to stand when she heard the door slide open. Instinctively Kagome reached for her weapon but the intruder wasn’t youkai.Rin carried a small candle and lit a couple of lamps for Kagome to see.
