“You won’t win.” Inuyasha barked.
“I can’t lose.” Sesshoumaru growled, it sounded like more of a sad confession than anything. Inuyasha was shocked to hear the desperation in the tai youkai’s voice. But he couldn’t waver, he was fighting for Kagome and their life together. He couldn’t lose her again. A familiar scent hit their noses and they turned to the young kit, Shippou. But neither let go of their death vise grip on each other.
Shippou looked at each of the brother’s and shook his head.
“You have to make a choice,” Shippou frowned. “Not for yourselves, but for Kagome. She needs both of you. And although some won’t like it, including myself, she loves you both. And you are acting like babies.” Shippou was about to turn and leave to find his mother but he paused. “She loves you both.” He said again before disappearing in the trees.
Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru dropped their hands and looked at each other. “What should we do?” Inuyasha frowned, he looked away with pained eyes.
“We should decide before we return to her.” Sesshoumaru looked away also with stoic eyes.
“I made my decision a long time ago.” Inuyasha said softly. “How could you fight for her like this, you don’t know her like I do.”
Sesshoumaru remained silent. He thought of the short time he spent alone with Kagome. She had been so open and so had he. He made a promise to her under a full moon and he was going to keep it.
Sesshoumaru shifted slightly and Kagome just shook her head without looking up.
“What is amusing?” Sesshoumaru growled.
“You are.” Kagome said simply.
This time Sesshoumaru snarled and looked Kagome right in his eyes. “You dare to mock this Sesshoumaru.”
Kagome tsked and turned away to give Daiki to Amaya. She brushed the boy’s hair from his face and smiled lovingly at him. He was fighting his sleep but Kagome knew that he was about to lose. Amaya disappeared with the boy and Kagome and Sesshoumaru were finally alone.
“What do you want, Sesshou-kun?” Kagome asked quietly. They were past formalities and Sesshoumaru didn’t mind the nickname.
Sesshoumaru looked away and frowned. “I want nothing.”
Kagome smiled. “I never thought you would lie to me.”
“This Sesshoumaru doesn’t lie.” Sesshoumaru growled.
“But you just did.” Kagome stood and moved to sit besides him against a tree. “Please, tell me want you want.”
Sesshoumaru swallowed hard and looked at the object of his desires. She was so beautiful, intelligent, humorous and powerful. He never thought that a woman could tame him, but he still followed her like a hungry puppy. “What do I want?” Sesshoumaru said.
Kagome watched the different subtle expressions in Sesshoumaru’s features. Anyone else would have missed the quirk at the corner of his lips when he found something she said to be really funny or the slight furrow of his brow when something really confused him. She felt honored to know him this way, she had the feeling that no one else knew him the way she did.
Kagome was growing impatient. Sesshoumaru was taken off guard when Kagome pressed her palms against his armor free chest and pressed a kiss on his cheek.
“Do you want to know what I want?” Kagome asked with a smile.
“I do.” Sesshoumaru answered with a gruff tone.
“I want a home, and I want to know who I am. And I want to see your castle.” Kagome confessed softly.
“You would return with me.” Sesshoumaru asked with that hidden hope Kagome knew was there.
“Well, I would like to see where you live.” Kagome clarified. “I am a traveling miko, I couldn’t stay.”
“Kagome,” Sesshoumaru said as he took her rough warrior hands in his. “My castle is with you.”
Kagome was speechless, sure Sesshoumaru allowed himself the be unrefined around her, he even went as far as to laugh. But this was different, he once told her that love was for the weak and now he was saying...well she didn’t know what he was saying.
“Taiyoukai do not get themselves involved with mikos. It is dangerous for both.” Sesshoumaru said.
Kagome slumped down at Sesshoumaru’s confession. “So, that’s it then.”
Sesshoumaru turned and looked at the saddened miko besides him. “No that isn’t it. I do not fear the danger. And I will always be there to protect you.”
Kagome froze then turned to the youkai. “Do you love me, Sesshou-kun?”
“I don’t know how to answer that, I want to be with you. I will always protect you, and I couldn’t imagine ever being without you again. I suppose that is love.” Sesshoumaru smiled as he stroked her soft cheek. Kagome watched as Sesshoumaru drew closer. She held her breath as Sesshoumaru pressed his lips to hers. This kiss was different, she felt his passion she felt like she could have found what she was looking for.
‘He will protect me.’ She thought as she fell deeper into the kiss.
“You have made your decision, Inuyasha.” Sesshoumaru frowned. “Well, so have I.” With that Sesshoumaru walked away in the direction of Kagome.
Inuyasha slumped his shoulders in defeat. ‘Well Shippou,’ Inuyasha thought to himself. ‘Looks like neither one of us are going to let up.’ He smiled sadly and followed after his brother.
“What is this, where is Kagome.” Inuyasha sniffed around but he couldn’t find her scent.
“Quiet.” Sesshoumaru hissed as he listened into the distance. The faint sound of singing caught his ears and he took off in the direction of the sounds with Inuyasha on his heels.
When the brothers parted the trees they found her bathing in the river, she was naked and singing. Her long raven hair just touched the surface of the water and she gave them a good view of her perfect curves. The way the sun hit made her skin seem to glow. She turned and smiled at them.
Inuyasha stared wide eyed at her and licked his dry lips. “Kagome?” He finally said. “What are you doing?” Kagome placed her hand on the Shikon no Tama that hung from her delicate neck.
“I’m waiting for you to make your wish.” She said seductively.
Inuyasha took a step forward completely drawn into her eyes. He know he heard Sesshoumaru moving but he was to mesmerized to care. He growled with pleasure as he stepped into the water and the miko wrapped her arms around his neck. He heard the water swosh as Sesshoumaru stepped behind her and wrapped his arms around her stomach.
“I want you both,” Kagome smiled. “Take me as yours.”
The brothers began shrugging of their clothes as they showered Kagome with delicate kisses. She called out their names as she ran her fingers over the curves of their strong muscles.
“Naraku.” A feminine voice called out to him. “Is this why you resurrected me? To cast pleasurable illusions to youkai.”
Naraku chuckled. “Why no, Kiyoshi.” Naraku’s voice was scratchy, he haven’t spoken from a real body in five years. “I want you to join me in revenge.”
“I only want revenge against one.” The dark miko said as she glared at the puppet who resembled her enemy.
“We bear ill will against the same woman.” Naraku smiled. “We will help each other.”
Kiyoshi smiled. “Kagome will pay.”
Naraku gave the dark miko the real shikon no tama. “Take this jewel and keep it with you, empower the dark forces within it. Protect it and succeed where Kagome has failed.”
“Welcome Miko-dono.” It was the resident miko, she was very young and not very in control of her powers. The girl had long light brown hair and dark green eyes. Her freckles were darkened by her dark skin Kagome suspected that the girl wasn’t even out of her teens.
“Hello, I am Kagome. I come from the north. Are you the only miko of the village?” Kagome asked.
As Kagome told the girl her name the young miko lit up in a smile. “Kagome-sama!” Kagome sighed as her title went from equal to honored. “You are the most powerful miko is existence. Even stronger than Hekira-sama.”
“Is she your teacher?” Kagome asked.
“No, she refuses to take a student. Everything I learned, I learned in passing from traveling mikos.” The girl went on. Then as if she remembered something startling she bowed. “Forgive me, my name is Sachiko.”
Suddenly a chipmunk appeared from Sachiko’s haori and scurried onto her shoulder. Sachiko giggled as she scratched the chipmunk’s head. “And this is Naoto, he is my very good friend.” Naoto squeaked with happiness.
Kagome smiled. “It is very nice to meet you, well since my services aren’t needed here I should continue.” Kagome bowed and was about to turn away.
“Wait Kagome-sama!” Sachiko said.
Kagome sighed and turned, she knew the would ask for a lesson and Kagome didn’t have time to waste there. “Yes?” She asked anyway.
“I am going to the south, I received word from a old miko named Kaede She agreed to take me as her student.” Sachiko began. “If you are heading that way, may I please join you?”
Kagome looked up at the sky and determined that nightfall was coming soon, and it appeared that Ichiro would not be making an appearance today.
“There are many dangers of the traveling miko, which is why I will let you follow me. But do not try to fight. I will not let you travel alone.” Kagome turned on her heel and glared at the young girl.
“Thank you Kagome-sama.” Sachiko bowed.
“Don’t thank me, Sachiko-chan. And don’t get in my way.” Kagome was surprised that she would allow the girl to follow, she was also shocked at herself that she would snap at her the way she did. Kagome softened her features and sighed. “I’m sorry, but if you insist on going south I would feel better if you had someone with you. But please if things get dangerous, I want you to run. Do you understand?”
Sachiko looked up and smiled weakly. “Yes, Kagome-sama. I understand.”
“Do you need to pack anything?” Kagome asked before turning away again.
Sachiko knew that even if she had anything to pack Kagome wouldn’t wait for her. Sachiko hurried and caught up to the retreating back of the miko hero. The younger miko smiled at the child in the basket on Kagome’s back. The baby cooed and smiled back. They walked in silence for a long while before Sachiko asked about the little boy.
“Um...what’s his name?” Sachiko asked.
Kagome was silent for a moment before answering. “Daiki.”
“Oh, he’s really cute, how old is he?”
“Two months.”
Sachiko paused and looked at the boy again. He looked older than two moon cycles. She continued walking when Kagome was a distance away. She jogged up next to Kagome.
“Wow, he must have been huge at birth.” Sachiko joked.
“It was a difficult birth indeed.” Kagome continued as she looked straight ahead.
Sachiko furrowed her brow and continued walking. She stopped when she realized that Kagome had stopped. “Daiki needs to eat.” Kagome said. “We should stop anyway, it will be nightfall soon and tomorrow we won’t have too many stops.”
Sachiko looked up and realized that night had crept up on them and they had been traveling for a few miles. The time had just flew by.
“Okay Kagome-sama.” Sachiko took Kagome’s bag and looked inside for camping supplies. “Um, do you want me to gather fire wood while you feed Daiki-chan?”
“Can you hunt?” Kagome asked flatly.
“Y-yes, Kagome-sama.” Sachiko stammered.
“You don’t have to hunt much. I have food, but Daiki needs fresh meat.” Kagome put Daiki down, he attempted to crawl away but Kagome caught him and smiled. “Daiki, you bad boy. Don’t you go crawling off.” Daiki laughed into his mother’s chest. Sachiko watched in amazement, that child couldn’t be so young, but then again, Kagome wouldn’t have any reason to lie.
“Kagome-sama?” Sachiko swallowed hard. “Daiki-chan...is he?”
“Daiki is hanyou.” Kagome frowned. “Is that what you wanted to know? I trust you with my son’s secret.”
Sachiko gasped and took a step back.
“Sachiko-chan, I trust you with my son’s secret.” Kagome repeated sternly.
Sachiko smiled and bowed. “Yes, I understand Kagome-sama.”
Kagome sighed and sat down with Daiki in her lap. “He doesn’t need anything large.” Kagome said referring to Daiki’s meal. “I will start a fire.”
Sachiko bowed again. She reached for Kagome’s long bow with hope in her eyes.
“Can you use a long bow?” Kagome asked without looking up.
“I just learned.” Sachiko said as she drew her hand away.
“Well practice make perfect.” Kagome looked up and smiled at the girl. “Use that for tonight, I will make you your own.”
Sachiko gave Kagome a bright smile and took the bow and a quiver of arrows. Kagome watched as she disappeared into the woods. As Sachiko hunted for Daiki Kagome prepared some of the dried meat for their dinner. Daiki bounced in her lap as Kagome began whittling some wood for Sachiko’s weapon. Kagome sat in silence as she thought about the girl. She wondered why she so willingly allowed the girl to travel with her. She seemed so inexperienced and would probably just slow her down. Maybe that was just it. She felt like she needed to be with the girl because Sachiko reminded her of herself in some strange way. Sachiko needed guidance and Kagome could use the company anyway.
Sachiko brought back a plump rabbit which Daiki was happy to eat. Sachiko watched Kagome and Daiki interact with each other and it was clear that Kagome loved him more than anything.
“Is it difficult, keeping Daiki’s secret I mean.” Sachiko asked as she scratched Naoto’s belly. The little chipmunk squeaked happily.
“Sometimes.” Kagome replied. Daiki was asleep in her lap and she would soon follow in sleep. “There are times when other miko’s or monks can see through the spell. But all in all I know without a doubt that because he is my son they won’t hurt him.”
“You are very respected Kagome-sama. I hope to be just like you someday.” Sachiko smiled as she drifted into sleep.
Kagome frowned slightly as she stared up at the stars. “No you don’t. No one should be that cursed.” Kagome finally fell into light slumber.
“Inuyasha.” The voice was Sesshoumaru came up from besides the miko. “Something is wrong.”
Inuyasha growled. He enjoyed Kagome’s eagerness to bond herself to them, and he didn’t even mind that she chose the both of them, at least not as much as he thought he should. But Inuyasha could not ignore the strange feeling he’s been having. “Yeah, something’s missing, but what?”
“There was a child, her son. Was it not?” Sesshoumaru stood and got dressed. Inuyasha quickly followed suit.
“A kid?” Inuyasha rubbed his head as he tried to sort his thoughts. “Hanyou, the pup was hanyou.” Inuyasha looked down on the miko. “Shikigami, and a bird too. Where are they?”
Sesshoumaru looked away and growled. “They are with they’re lady. And we are not.”
“Ah, so the all powerful youkai brothers have seen through my illusion.” The dark voice came from the miko imposter who was now smiling evilly at them. “And it only took you three weeks.”
“What!” Inuyasha yelled.
“Lies. It has only been three days.” Sesshoumaru snarled.
Kagome stood and with a wave of her hand the imposter was dressed in skin tight leather with her hair up. Her face didn’t change, the illusion knew it would be valuable to carry the appearance of the woman they desired.
“Time slows in the thickness of the fog. I gave my master more than enough time to kill your dear miko.” Kagome laughed. “We had to distract you somehow.”
Inuyasha stepped back in shock. Sesshoumaru locked his eyes on the fake Kagome and drew his sword. “Where is my miko.” Sesshoumaru demanded in his normal but menacing tone. “Tell me and your death will be quick.”
Kagome smiled again, just this time brighter. She twirled around playfully and clasped her hands together. “How lovely,” she said lightly. “You both love her so deeply. That was the only reason you could see through my master’s illusion. How sad you weren’t there to save her.”
“Bitch! She isn’t dead. Not after all of this.” Inuyasha drew his own sword and placed it by the fake miko’s throat. “Who is doing this.”
Kagome still smiled. The imposter was pissing the brothers off royally. “If I told you, maybe then you would believe she was dead. After all my master isn’t so easy to kill.”
Sesshoumaru ran forward and sliced at the illusion. In a instant the girl flipped back instantly she whipped a kusari fundo* in the tai youkai’s direction cutting his face. Sesshoumaru was shocked that she was so fast. The girl wrapped the chain whip around her body and playfully swung the weighted ends in front of her. “Ninja prefer the illusion, but if you wish to see my skills as a warrior, so be it. I will not be defeated so easily.” The illusion laughed as if this all was a joke. “And what happens if I were to be defeated. You precious miko is dead, what is there left for you outside of this illusion.”
The brothers looked at one another. Sesshoumaru shook his head and so did Inuyasha. The illusion looked at them with confusion. Inuyasha looked at the girl and smiled. “You were right about one thing, wench. We love her, more than anything. We trust her and her abilities. We can feel her. She is ours and we will fight for her for the rest of our lives!” In an instant the brothers fanned out and ran on both sides of the illusion. The girl couldn’t see them in her master’s fog and was actually afraid. Her only choice was to wave the fog away. There they were waiting for her. Before she could react they were on top of her. She screamed as the blades sliced through her. The fog disappeared completely and the three halves of the girl slid back together and disappeared also. Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru stood alone in an empty field.
“We will see that creature again.” Sesshoumaru said.
“Yeah, then we’ll find out who’s after Kagome.” Inuyasha said as they began walking in the direction of the south. They were certain that Kagome would be going on the trail of her past. “Three weeks is a long time.”
“Hn.” Sesshoumaru agreed. “She will defeat this new enemy. Just as she defeated Naraku.”
Inuyasha agreed and they began running to their future.
“You can’t be apart of this Sachiko-chan.” Kagome told her one night. “This is far to dangerous.”
“But I want to stay with you!” Sachiko cried.
Kagome smiled softly. “What about your lessons with Kaede-dono?”
Sachiko lowered her head in shame.
“She doesn’t know your coming, does she?” Kagome placed a hand on her shoulder.
Sachiko looked up with tears. “I’m sorry Kagome-sama. I wanted to go and meet her and ask her to be my teacher. Please don’t send me away”
Kagome sighed. “Alright, you can be my student on one condition.”
Sachiko’s eyes lit up. “Anything!”
“When things get dangerous, I want you to take Daiki and run as fast as you can. Don’t look back and don’t try to fight.” Kagome said sternly. Kagome was apprehensive with taking the girl as a protégé at this moment in time. But the girl needed guidance and Kagome needed the extra pair of hands to help her.
And now Kagome was comfortable having a student and Shippou was a great baby sitter. Kagome didn’t want to worry about the shikon no tama. But she also knew that it was important and it was her duty to find it and protect it.
“Mama!” Little Daiki squealed. That was the only word he could say after spending some time with Shippou. The fox had loved Daiki like a brother should and taught him to say that one word. Kagome looked up and Shippou walked over with Daiki in his arms.
“Mom, we’ll be coming to the taijiya village by nightfall if we continue now.” Shippou said.
“Okay, Shippou.” Kagome and Sachiko began gathering the herbs and started to follow Shippou. Sachiko happily tied her bow and quiver of arrows to her back and followed her teacher. She would never part with the shorter bow that Kagome had made for her. She glanced at her teacher. She was strong, beautiful and intelligent and Sachiko wanted to be just like her. The girl knew now that Kagome didn’t have any memories of her past, but that didn’t stop her from going on and fighting with all her strength. Sachiko knew why the country respected her and she knew that kagome deserved it.
Sango and her son, Akio saw the village headsman standing at the gates looking out. They looked at each other and smiled. Silently the four year old and the taijiya circled the man and leaped up to scare him. He yelped and fell back with Sango and Akio on top of him.
“Oh my dear Sango. I thought you loved me, you nearly made my heart stop.” Miroku laughed.
Sango smiled down on Miroku. “Oh I can do that anyway.” She smiled as she leaned in for a kiss.
“Ahem.” The voice was familiar but different and a familiar demonic aura surrounded them.
“Fox!” Akio giggled. “Fox! Fox!”
“Heh, at least he didn’t call me a squirrel.”
Sango’s eyes lit up. “Shippou!” Sango looked up and confirmed her assumption. “Kami! It’s really you!” Sango got up and took the kitsune in her arms.
“Whoa, easy Sango. I missed you too!” Shippou stepped back for a breather.
Miroku stood and smiled. “Shippou, it’s been awhile. You’ve really grown haven’t you.”
“I would say so.” Shippou puffed out his chest. The snapping of a twig brought his attention else where. He turned to see Sachiko walking up with a timid expression. “Ah, they caught up. This is Sachiko.”
Miroku and Sango bowed politely. “Nice to meet you.”
Shippou smiled brighter. “And I believe you know, Kagome.”
Sango and Miroku gasped as they looked at the horizon coming from the direction of the setting sun. There she was the red and white miko that they been searching for.
“Kagome...” Sango whispered.
Kagome swallowed hard. “Sango. My...sister.”
*Kusari fundo: A ninja weapon made of rope or chain with a weight on each end.

He slowly sat up and shook his head. Over and over again he stared at his hands. Reluctantly he opened and closed his fist just to see if he still knew how. And then he smiled. He surveyed the land around him and smiled brighter, his handsome features only marred by the evil soul he carried. Now he had a body, and now he could have revenge.”To handle yourself, use your head; To handle others, use your heart.”

Inuyasha was breathing heavily as he dodged attack after relentless attack. Sesshoumaru released his sword’s ogi on his younger brother. And he continued to do so without so much as a second wind. Inuyasha angrily countered the attacks with his bakaryuuha. Sesshoumaru was knocked back by the blast, by the time he composed himself Inuyasha was upon him with his sword in it’s sheath and his claws extended. Sesshoumaru growled as he abandoned his own sword and caught Inuyasha’s claws in his. Inuyasha pushed against his brother and began to slip.“You won’t win.” Inuyasha barked.

Sesshoumaru watched as Kagome fed Daiki a piece of fish. They hadn’t spoken to each other all day and Sesshoumaru knew it was his fault entirely. The tai youkai had a feeling that their time together would be short lived and he was pissed about it. He began growling and ignoring the miko, it would be easier to just push her away than to say goodbye. But still she stayed and smiled at him. She decided to just not talk to him until he was ready.Sesshoumaru shifted slightly and Kagome just shook her head without looking up.

Kagome made her way through the trees, she found where Ichiro’s magical trail had stopped. But from there the feeling was gone. Sayuri was gone on another errand and so where Aya and Amaya. Kagome was alone with Daiki. Finally she found a traveling trail that led into a town. Kagome put Daiki in his basket on her back and went to see if the village needed her services.“Welcome Miko-dono.” It was the resident miko, she was very young and not very in control of her powers.

Inuyasha turned over again in his sleep. Kagome’s scent was fading and growing with each gust. The fog around them was still strong. It has been there for three days straight, but the youkai brother’s seemed content with their strange relationship with the strange miko sleeping between them.“Inuyasha.” The voice was Sesshoumaru came up from besides the miko.

Shippou was playing with Daiki as Kagome was showing Sachiko different herbs. The fox demon had caught up with his mother long ago and was leading her to the taijiya village. Since Sayuri was still out on business. Sachiko noticed shikigama coming and going and wondered what they were planning.“You can’t be apart of this Sachiko-chan.” Kagome told her one night.

Miroku the ex monk stood outside the gates of the demon exterminators’ village. He had the feeling that something was coming. The itch in his palm told him so. The wind tunnel was long gone but he still wore his seal. Miroku surveyed the world outside the gates of his now busy village. In the five years of rebuilding it, many wandering taijiya and other villagers has made this their home. He knew that his wife, Sango couldn’t be happier and he was happy too. He had a son and a new daughter. He was content. But the itching...Sango and her son, Akio saw the village headsman standing at the gates looking out.
