Lost memories
“ I LOOKED IN TO YOUR EYES AND FACED MY DEEPEST FEAR
I HAVE DRIFTED TO FAR, FAR FROM YOU MY DEAR.”
Marc Anthony-How could I
Kagome sighed disappointed after an hour or so. She hoped that Inuyasha would come for her.
“But I guess he's not that worried after all.”
The girl got out of the spring, after she looked around for any signs of peeping toms. She got her tiny underwear, when suddenly saw a lily.
“Kawaii!! It's so weird to find lilies here, but…it doesn't matter.” She convinced herself and slowly touched the flower. It was very small, unlike the lilies she had seen in her time, it was colored in a fade blue. She gently touched the fragile petals. Then a sudden thought crossed her mind.
“Why would I leave such a beautiful flower, here in this wilderness?” Kagome asked herself grabbing the flower. Something stung her and she could feel the blood drain from her finger, but when she tried to release the flower, the thorn got even deeper into her flesh. The lily started to pulse, like it was alive, then grew bigger and bigger, turning into a monster. Vines burst from the plant and wrapped around her body. The flower was now twice her height and spoke with a growl:
“Finally some blood.” Shouted in contentment. “ I was asleep for so many years, I took so many forms, but none of those silly humans touched me. But now, I'm free again, only because of you, pathetic woman” said the plant looking at a shocked Kagome.
She tried to free herself, but the vines were wrapped all over her body, and the thorn started draining even more blood.
“Inuyasha…” was her last thought, before she fainted.
“Don't worry” the flower spoke “it will soon be over. Then it stopped at a sight of a purple aura. Something was hanging on the girl's neck. , something that the monster instantly recognized.
“Shikon no Tama” yelled the monster. “How lucky, for my to find it” added with a mischievous smile. One vine burst from the plant's body, heading for the girl's chest. The vine was cut while the monster hollered in pain.
“Over my dead body, you runt” said the angry hanyou. He knew something was wrong, it was like a sixth scent that told him that Kagome was in trouble and here she was wrapped in all those vines, fainted or... He shook his head at that thought and the fear of loosing her started to spread into his mind.
“Bastard, let go of Kagome or you'll regret it.”
“Muahahahahaah!” the monster laughed out loud. “And what could a weak hanyou like you, do about it?”
“You'll see.” Answered Inuyasha sticking out Tetssaiga from its stealth. He jumped with the fang risen over his head and cut the plant's head with a blow. The lily struggled in pain on the ground and shouted:
“All this for that human girl…you'll regret it. You'll never be able to protect her again.” Saying that the monster faded away.
The vines around the girl remained, though. The boy inserted the fang back to its place, then started tearing the vines with his claws. He desperately pulled them, not daring to use any of his attack for fear of hurting Kagome. Inuyasha yelled her name couple of time, but no answer. Fear clutched around his soul, like that plant around the girl's body.
“I'm late again, I failed once again to protect her” he said to himself, with a trembling voice.
Soon all the vines were cut and Kagome fell weak in his arms.
“Kagome….Kagome……Kagome” he repeated loud shooking her. He heard a low sound from her throat, sign that she was waking up. She frowned then opened her eyes, slowly.
“Inuyasha” she whispered.
“Kagome” he answered hugging her” I'm so glad that you're alright.” He whispered in her hair.
“Where were you?” she asked rough.
“Huh?”
“I asked where were you.”
He watched her, then lowered his eyes as hers grew wider.
“Inuyasha..? Tell me you didn't…” tears started flowing down her checks.
He didn't answered. He couldn't. The girl slowly stood, still crying. The hanyou's eyes got wider when he realized that all she was wearing were her panties. His face turned all red. Kagome looked down and saw that she was standing naked in front of him, but didn't seem to care too much. She grabbed her clothes and dressed as fast as she could. She looked like she was going to collapse soon. Inyasha's embarrassment turned into concern. He stood and tried to help her, but when the boy touched her, Kagome took a step back. The heartache that he felt in that moment was about to kill him along with the tears and the disappointment in her eyes. The hanyou took a step back, but still managed to catch her when she finally gave up. He wrapped his arms around her and carried her back to the house.
“ WHY WAS I SO AFRAID TO TELL HER
THAT FOR HER I WOULD FIGHT A THOUSAND SOLDIERS,
BUT JUST LIKE AN ANGRY CHILD
I KEPT MY FEELING LOCKED INSIDE,
THERE WERE RIVER OF TEARS, FLOWING FROM HER EYES.”
“Why did I had to go see Kikyou again?” Inuyasha asked himself, while caring Kagome back. He remembered all. After Kagome left for the spring, he saw the miko's Soul Stealers. He knew that she was close, so the boy went following the youkai. Jumping from treetop to treetop, Inuyasha found Kikyou sitting under an old oak. She was resting with her eyes closed, but she smiled almost imperceptible when she felt Inuyasha.
“Kikyou…”he whispered sitting in front of her.
“I knew that you'd see my Soul Stealers. You always find me when I sit down to rest.” she answered making him smile subtle.
“Are you alright Kikyou?”
“As alright as a dead miko can be.”
He frowned at those words.
“So I guess all your friends are close by, aren't they?”
“Yes.”
“And Kagome? How is she?” she asked making the hanyou flinch, when he heard his miko's name.
“She's…fine.”
“Inuyasha? Why are you here?”
The question hit him like a slap on the face. “What was he doing here after all?” he thought. The boy just stared without any answers.
“Inuyasha” the miko continued as she was streghtening her body. “I don't want you to look for me without any reason, anymore. If you have something to ask me or say to me, fine, but else don't come just because you have this sense of duty. What was between us, was long time ago. I died twice for goodness sake, since then. All that keeps me now alive is my hate for Naraku and the thought that I will one day avenge my death and you're sealing.
“But I don't want you to fight” he said grabbing her hands.
“You can't stop me” she said standing. “Stop worrying for me, I'm not as weak as you think. I have nothing to lose anymore. Those who lost everything are the most powerful cause they don't have any sense of fear anymore.”
“That's not true, you haven't lost me” he quickly added.
“Didn't I?” Kikyou asked watching him in his eyes, reading what was beyond them.
He turned his face.
“See? I was right” she ended.
Inuyasha was about to answer when a strange feeling hit him. Something like a heartache and fear. “What the hell?” he said to himself. His eyes got wider as the feeling grew and then he realized.
“Kagome…” he whispered.
“I have to go Kikyou.”
“I know” said the miko watching him fade away.
“Inuyasha….”
He ran like a nut man. The fear that sensed earlier grew as he got closer to the village. He knew something was wrong with Kagome.
“Baka. Why did she have to go to that damn spring in the middle of the night?”
He cursed himself for being such an idiot and leave her go by herself.
“Kagome be safe until I get there.”
Inyasha watched her now in his arms, weak and unconscious. “I can't believe that I made the same mistake twice. She was almost killed by Naraku's baby when I left looking for Kikyou and now the same thing happened. Damn me. How can I be so stupid and leave her alone, knowing that she's so vulnerable. She trusts everything, I'm sure she found the damn flower, sweet and innocent and that's why the youkai caught her. That plant was probably there for years, but humans around here know that trusting a beautiful flower in the middle of wilderness means death. Only she could be so genuine to touch it.” He sighed and watched her with concern. As they faded into the woods to the house.

“What happened?” Sango asked concerned.
“She was attacked by a youkai” Inuyasha answered with the same look upon his face.
“Was it a plant?” added Miroku.
“Yes. How did you know?”
“She has this stung in her finger, looks like it was made from a thorn.”
“It was a damn flower.”
“Oh I see” the priest sighed.
“Why is she so weak?” the small kitsune asked almost crying.
“Because the plant sucked a large amount of blood and replaced it with poison.”
“What?” said in choir Inyasha, Sango and Shippou.
“Don't worry it's usually harmless, although I don't know the side effects.” Ended hoshi with a sigh.
Inuyasha took Kagome in his arms again and held her.
“Where were you?”
“Huh?” said surprised by the sudden question and stared at Sango.
“If you were by her side none of this would have happened, so where were you?” she repeated.
“I was…”
“To see Kikyou” continued Shippou with a suspicious face.
Inyasha poked him, but it was already too late, because the demon slyer was standing and watched him with an angry face.
“You went to see her again?”
He left Kagome on the floor and took two steps back.
“Hmm” he nodded.
“I can't believe you are so stupid to make the same mistake twice” hollered Sango.
Inuyasha turned his head, trembling.
“She was so happy that lately you didn't ran to look for her and there she is, lying half dead, because you did it again” she said, showing the girl on the floor.
“I know damn it. You don't have to remind me” he answered back.
“I can't stand and do nothing while my best friend is dying, because her baka boyfriend can't choose between a dead miko and a beautiful, alive girl. She would give her life just to know that you were there for her”
Miroku, Shippou and Kirara took several steps back. They never saw Sango so furious. She was trembling and frowning at the puzzled hanyou. They all knew it was best to stay out of her way.
“Don't you think I know that? And I would give my life for her if she were ask for it, damn it” he shouted.
Sango was a little surprised by the answer, but she wasn't done.
“Then why the hell don't you tell her that? Why do you leave her wonder if you even care for her? Why do you leave her doubt every time you wonder off alone? Why the hell don't you make a choice already?”
“I did” he ended hollering louder than Sango.
They all remained looking at eachother. The demon slyer was breathing fast trying to catch her breath, much like Inuyasha. The hanyou stood there for few minutes watching Kagome lied down on the floor, then he ran out of the room into the woods.
“I guess we all know what choice he made” eventually said the priest.
Sango kneeled near Kagome, watching her with concern. “Oh Kagome, how will I be able to tell you that he ran to Kikyou again, this time for good?” she said to herself. Tears started flowing from her eyes as she watched her best friend struggling for her life.
“Hoshi-sama? Don't you think Kagome should go to her own time?”
“I agree, but how will we do that? None of us can't go through the well.”
“Inuyasha no baka” she spoke exasperated. “ Baka, baka, baka. You left without even asking if there's anything you can do to help her. You left her die like this” she cried.

“Hey old hag?” yelled Inuyasha.
“Yes?” the old woman answered rising her head. She was picking some herbs and she looked surprised to see again the hanyou.
“Where's Jinenji?” he said.
“I'm right here” spoke the harmless hanyou, getting out from his house.
“I need some herbs from you, but make it fast.”
“For who?” asked surprised Jinenji to the hurried boy in front of him.
“Does it matter? Hurry up, Kagome is in danger” he rushed the hanyou.
Jinenji opened his eyes wide.
“Kagome…” he whispered, remembering the happy girl, who was rather afraid of a worm than of him. He made a concerned face.
“What for? What happened to her?”
“She was attacked by a youkai plant. The damn thing sucked her blood and now she's all weak.”
“You know that usually instead of blood these youkai plants insert poison, don't you?” asked the old woman.
“Yes I know, but I have know idee what side effects might occur” added Inuyasha.
“It makes her forget?” Jinenji said worried.
“What?” the boy with the silver hair asked.
“The first person that she sees will be forgotten” Jinenji answered leaving Inuyasha with his mouth wide open.
NOTE: the rhymes are taken from a Marc Anthony song as I wrote under them. They serve as a motto for the chapter or scenes that precedes. I chose that song because I think it shows exactly how Inuyasha feels.
