Chapter 2: I think I... No just kidding

"Watch your mouth young man."

"Oh, sorry Mrs. Higarashi." Inuyasha apologized for his vulgar language but continued mentally cursing. "Please make sure Kagome gets lots of rest and if she remembers anything here is all our numbers, that should be Shippo's Cell, my Cell, Sesshomaru's Cell, and our house phone. Also here is e-mail, fax, and pager. Just please let us know."

"Don't worry boys. Even if Kagome never remembers I am sure she won't be able to resist being friends with you again. She loves you boys." Inuyasha smiled at her reassuring words and Shippo blushed slightly.

Shippo and Inuyasha hugged Mrs. Higarashi before leaving the shrine for the second time that day. They walked quickly through the busy city streets.

"Hey Yash?" Inuyasha nodded to show he was listening, "Have you ever wanted to leave Japan?"

"No." he replied flatly, "I've been waiting for Kagome. I've had no reason to leave, nor have I wanted too."

"Oh. Sometimes I do. Just to see what the rest of the world is like. I learn about it in school, but it's not the same."

"When you are older maybe I'll take you somewhere, how would you like that?"

"Thanks Yash. That sounds fun." The pair continued walking in silence.

They arrived at a tall building, thirty four floors of apartments. Inuyasha and Shippo made there way through the glass sliding doors, through the elegant lobby - decorated with a rustic look - and into the metal elevator. Inuyasha put in the master key which would take the elevator to the very top floor. He tried not to look at his reflection in the mirrors that surrounded the chamber of the elevator as he waited for the elevator to make it's trek up the thirty four flights. The theme of Mission Impossible sounded throughout the elevator - Inuyasha's idea of elevator music. Shippo hummed a soft melody but Inuyasha didn't recognize it. Finally a soft ding echoed through the space and the metal door's glided open.

The grand apartment was decorated by Sesshomaru himself. The living room, where the elevator opened in to, was a startling white. The carpet was pure white, as were the couches and chairs. A small mahogany coffee table sat in the middle of the couches and a stone fireplace sat off to the side. A large vase with exotic flowers sat in the center of the coffee table and metal floor lamps sat beside the chairs.

"Hey Sess." Inuyasha kicked off his Nike's and walked through the living room, through the dinning room kitchen combo - which housed a majestic oak dinning table and a state of the art kitchen. Inuyasha walked down a narrow hallway, decorated with various photographs and tapestries into a small room.

"Yes.... Yes I know this sale will put us over the top.... all the more reason for it to go smoothly.... yes.... Splendid..... You too... Good bye." There was a soft beep as Sesshomaru turned off the phone. Sesshomaru turned in his high backed leather office chair and gave a heartless smile to his brother standing in the doorframe.

"Hello. How is the Miko?"

"She doesn't remember me."

"I could have told you that."

"Then why didn't you?" Inuyasha sank down into one of the chairs directly across from Sesshomaru's office chair.

"You never asked. Besides would you have listened?"

"That's not the point." Sesshomaru rolled his eye's but said nothing. "I see you made the Norington Sale."

"Mm hmm." Sesshomaru said as he typed some figures into the computer, "With the extra money that will provide we could have enough to add another spa to the hotel, or to the luxury cruise liner you built two summer's ago."

"That would be cool." Inuyasha replied indifferently. "I wish I could have seen her before she fell into the well. I mean, I saw her, I've been stalking her since she was born. But, I wish I could have stopped her or something, so she would know me and not be afraid."

"If you had stopped her from going into the well you would have messed with the space time-"

"Hai, hai the space time continuum. I get it." Inuyasha sighed heavily but remained silent. The only sound that could be heard was the mundane clicking of Sesshomaru's claws on the keyboard.

"Oh by the way, why don't you wear your concealing charm when you leave the house?" Sesshomaru asked in a bossy tone.

"I just took it off to say 'hi' to Kagome and Mrs. H. No one noticed anyway." Sesshomaru responded with a semi-sarcastic 'mm hmm' and continued typing.

"Sess, the transition between schools went well, I start at Kagome's school Monday."

"Excellent." Sesshomaru said, though he didn't look up, nor did he seem to pay any real attention. Though the years had given him slightly more emotion then he had when he was younger.

"Why couldn't I go to Kagome's school before now?" Shippo asked. Inuyasha laughed to himself as he mouthed in a mocking tone, what Sesshomaru responded with.

"It would have messed with the space-time-continuum."

"Come on Ship, lets make dinner."

"So I'll come by around nine, that is when you lock up right?" Kagome nodded, she felt bad for cancelling on Hojo on Friday so they were going out tonight instead. "Cool, see ya." Hojo walked away, a slight bounce in his step. Kagome turned around to be faced by a relatively tall red-haired boy staring at her. She jumped slightly in surprise.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare ya. I just wanted to apologize, I didn't mean to frighten you at your place of employment. I hope you can forgive me."

"Hai, sure, no problem." Kagome smiled reassuringly and the boy relaxed.

"The name is Shippo Tenkai, and you are?" he held out his hand in an attempt to start over with the girl.

"Kagome Higarashi, pleased to meet you." she greeted him as though they had never met, and in her eye's they hadn't. "I am sorry but I'm late for Studies of Feudal Japan, see you later."

"Oh I'll walk you to class. That is what I have right now too." She smiled and Shippo walked with her to class.

Kagome was amazed at how much the young boy knew about the time era, he knew almost as much as her, if not more. She tried to figure out how he could know so much being a new student. *I didn't think other school's offered this program. Maybe he is just gifted.* Deciding not to judge him she let it go and allowed him to answer all of the questions she normally would have tried.

"Shippo... pssssst.... Shippo!"

"Inuyasha? Why are hiding in the bushes?" Shippo walked over to the hanyou and looked at him suspiciously.

"I didn't want Kagome to see me."

"She already left for work. Why don't you just wear your concealing charm?"

"Feh, like I am going to listen to Sesshomaru."

"Five hundred years and you haven't changed a bit."

"Feh. Come on, after Kagome gets out of work we are going to surprise her and take her out to dinner." Inuyasha said as he stepped out of the bush.

"Eh... I don't think so."

"What do you mean?"

"It seems she already has plans."

"Nine o'clock, nine o'clock, la la la la la." Kagome sang to herself as she locked up the cash-register and signed out of the computer for the night. She quickly put back the few movies that had staggered in throughout the evening and began turning off the lights. A small knock on the door interrupted her.

"Hey, sorry we're closed." she called, without looking at the door.

"Good." a familiar voice called.

"Oh, hey Hojo. Be right there." She quickly flicked off the last light and grabbed her key's off the counter.

She locked the door and closed it tightly before turning to Hojo with an almost forced smile. He kissed her lightly on the temple and she felt another headache. Having experienced so many lately she was well prepared though and quickly reached into her bag and grabbed two Ibuprofen and a bottle of water.

"Are you okay?" Hojo asked at her reaction.

"Oh, this? Hai I am fine. I keep getting strange, random headaches, but I am good." he looked worried and puzzled, she grabbed his arm and smiled, "Ready then?" he nodded and they walked to his green SUV, no doubt borrowed from his parental unit's.

Inuyasha watched the pair. He kissed her! He growled loudly but from the distance he was standing no one heard but Shippo. He watched her forced smile and how she took Ibuprofen a few seconds after he kissed her. He laughed to himself, though he hated the thought of Kagome being in pain.

"Inuyasha, stop growling you'll catch someone's attention." Shippo scolded.

"Gomen." he stopped growling, but mentally thought of what it would be like to rip Hojo apart, in the same manner he had done to many of his foes in the past.

"Let's follow them." Inuyasha nodded at the boy's request and they got into his silver Ferrari and followed relatively closely to the SUV.

They drove for around twenty minutes before arriving at a quaint 'homey' looking restaurant. Inuyasha quickly realized it was one of Sesshomaru's and laughed out loud. Shippo looked at the building and he too began laughing. They followed the couple in saying hello to 'Jean Luke' on the way in.

"Hello Sir, young sir," Jean Luke nodded to each of them as they passed through the doors. "To what do we owe this honor?"

"Just checking things out. Don't even worry about it." Jean Luke nodded again and Inuyasha worked his way to the kitchen, making a mental note that the couple sat at table forty seven.

"Hey Paul, Ayume." he nodded to acknowledge each person. "Let me get table forty seven."

"All right. But why Yash?" Ayume asked.

"Don't you recognize her?" the Youkai looked through the kitchen door and spotted Kagome.

"Oh my. Of course. Why is she with someone else?" Inuyasha felt his anger rise.

"She doesn't remember me." Ayume put a hand to her mouth in disbelief.

"That is horrible. You don't suppose Kouga did it do you? Put a spell on her? That horrible man. I'll have to have a talk with him when I get home tonight."

"Oh no, it wasn't Kouga, don't worry. It was something about the Shikon no Tama."

"You still have it don't you? Is it safe?"

"Hai it is. Anyway, duty calls." he grabbed a notepad and an apron from the rack. He didn't care that he wasn't in the proper attire to wait tables. Before he walked through the dinning room he muttered the concealing spell that Sesshomaru begged him to use. His hair transforming to midnight black before the staff's eye's. His claws and fangs disappearing even his ears were shifted to make way for human ears. The noises of the kitchen dulled and he was partially glad for that.

"Good evening and welcome to Kaede's Hut. I am Inuyasha and I will be your waiter this evening. Could I interest you in starting with some beverages?" he had repeated the line so many times since the restaurant was built that it came natural now.

"Yes, I'll have Sweet Lemon Tea. What would you like dear?" Hojo looked over to Kagome, she held a hand to her head massaging it gently. Inuyasha noted this but didn't say anymore.

"Hai, that sounds fine." Inuyasha didn't bother to write this down and nodded before walking off to get the drinks.

He arrived a few minutes later with two sweet lemon tea's and took their order. He could easily have remembered it but Hojo was a very picky eater.

"Could you take the usual amount of green peppers that you put on it, and give me like half that? Then with the oil, yes, no oil. Okay and the shredded carrot? Could you not shred the carrot but just slice is fine." Inuyasha nodded and smiled at each petty request, marking down the changes to the otherwise perfect meal.

"And what could I get for you beautiful." the word slipped out and he tried to cover it, but Hojo caught it.

"I am sorry Sir but she is my date, and gorgeous though she is, I would appreciate it if you didn't say that to her again." Hojo's tone, though calm and placid, held anger within it that Inuyasha even felt wasn't worth arguing with.

"I am terribly sorry Sir. I couldn't help myself. I apologize Miss if I offended or hurt you in any way." his voice held a slight sarcasm but neither noticed it.

"It's okay. Hojo, be nice. Umm, I'll have a bowl of Chicken ramen." Inuyasha's heart melted again for the beauty sitting before him.

"Dear, are you sure? You should eat more then a bowl of ramen. I don't even know why a place like this serves ramen." he muttered the last sentence but Inuyasha caught it.

"Actually it was the owner's choice. It is his favorite food." Inuyasha pointed out. Hojo responded with a simple 'oh' and hid a slight tinge in his cheeks.

"I said ramen was fine." Kagome said defiantly.

"Feisty that one." Inuyasha smiled as he walked off and put the slip of paper on the chef's turntable. "Got a difficult one for ya."

"Let me guess Hojo." Paul, the chef, responded.

"Hai. How did you know?"

"He comes in here every Friday, orders the same thing. But he always brings a different girl, or so I hear from Ayume." At the sound of her name Ayume ducked out the double doors. Inuyasha couldn't pursue the girl in the public of the dinning room so he waited.

"Oooooooooorder up!" Paul yelled like he was in a bad movie, "I love doing that." Inuyasha rolled his eye's and took his order before thanking Paul.

"Here you are, teriyaki chicken and rice with half the green peppers, no oil, sliced carrot, not shredded, and just a hint of garlic." Inuyasha said as he placed the meal in front of Hojo.

"Thank you." he said out of habit.

"And a bowl of chicken ramen for the lovely lady." he placed the bowl in front of Kagome who blushed slightly at yet another compliment from the stranger.

"Thanks Yash." she hadn't planned on giving the waiter a nick-name. I wonder where that came from. "I am sorry Inuyasha."

"No it's okay, I like Yash better." he smiled at Kagome, who gazed into his amber eye's and felt at peace. Though her head still throbbed painfully. Hojo made a noise as though clearing his throat.

"Enjoy your meal, if there is anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to let me know." Inuyasha walked briskly away and put the apron back on the rack.

"Ayume!" he called in mock cheerfulness. Shippo had been eating bits of food that the cook didn't see fit to serve and suddenly stopped to watch the confrontation.

"Oh Inuyasha, table nine is in dire need of water, I have to go." she smiled apologetically and started for the door.

"Ayume. How often does Hojo come here? What girls does he bring? What does he do to the girls when they leave?"

"Well, he comes here just about once a week. He brings all kinds of girls, usually tall, long legged, and semi-ditzy. I am not sure what he does when he leaves, it's not like I stalk him." she quickly ducked passed Inuyasha and into the dinning room again.

Inuyasha sighed a bit before walking back into the dinning room, pretending to do something constructive. There really was no need for two waiters on staff and he was really bored. A small movement caught his attention and he turned around to see Kagome waving happily to him. He walked quickly over and nodded to show he was listening.

"I was wondering if you could bring me a glass of water, the tea isn't agreeing with me."

"Right away miss." he quickly walked to the kitchen and got a glass of water and ran back to the dinning room in under thirty seconds. "Here you are Miss" he set the water down. "Anything else I can do for you?"

"Oh no that is fine thank you." Kagome responded and Inuyasha walked away. No sooner had he left the table then a soft 'oh crap' hit his ears. He turned around to see Kagome standing with water all down the front of her skirt. He smiled to himself, he knew Kagome was slightly clumsy. He quickly ran to the kitchen and came back with a towel.

"Here you are Miss." Inuyasha knelt down and began drying her dress.

"I think I can handle it." Hojo responded from behind his voice filled with anger. Inuyasha hid the smile that played on his lips. Yeah, yeah like I haven't touched her before.

"Terribly sorry, I was just trying to help." Hojo took the cloth from Inuyasha and knelt down in the same fashion Inuyasha had.

"Hojo, be nice, he was just trying to help." Kagome said in a scolding whisper.

"Well, I see you have everything well handled. Good bye Homo."

"Hojo!" his voice sounded irritated.

"Oh, Hojo, I am sorry." Inuyasha lifted his head and gazed at Kagome. She smiled genuinely at him and he winked before walking away.
§¤~*§¤~

"Come on they're moving." Shippo leaped off the counter and followed Yash out the door. They watched the SUV pull out of the parking lot before starting the car and pulling out after them.

"How long do you intend to stalk Kag?" Shippo asked.

"Until she remembers me." he responded flatly.

"That could take years! In fact, it might never happen!"

"Then I'll just make her fall in love with me again!"

The rest of the ride was silent until Inuyasha almost crashed into the green SUV at a stop light.

"Fuck, that was close."

"Did you see that guy? He almost hit us." Hojo said from the drivers seat.

"Mm hmm." Kagome turned around to see Inuyasha, the waiter, driving the silver Ferrari. She, for some reason unrenowned to her, smiled placidly and turned around in her seat.

"So you want to go back to my place?"

"Umm... sure.. why not." Kagome hesitated but agreed. *Why did I hesitate? There is something wrong here, I just know it.*

"Looks like they are stopping again." Shippo pointed out.

"Hai, and that is a house not a restaurant or a museum. He took her to his house!" Inuyasha growled inwardly and parked the car.

"I suspect my parental unit's won't be home until late. Maybe early morning." Hojo said snidely as he unlocked his door and led Kagome inside.

Kagome had been in to the small one floor house before, so she didn't bother to look around at the various knick-knacks that cluttered the shelves and tables.

Inuyasha took off the concealing spell and easily picked up the conversation coming from within the walls.

"So how has your night been? I hope after the restaurant and that snooty waiter the night wasn't horrible."

"Oh, no, it was lovely. Thank you."

Inuyasha picked up the tone of her voice, it was a tone he was pretty sure only he understood. She often used it when she was trying to avoid his anger. How he wished he could make her anger rise again. He loved watching her fill with anger, but her eye's holding pure happiness and warmth.

Hojo moved in to kiss her but she held back. He tried to pull her to him but she resisted. The same dull throbbing she experienced the better portion of the evening intensified unlike she had ever known. She fought her way away from him.

"I am sorry, I have to go." she ran passed him and out the door. Inuyasha laughed at the shocked expression on Hojo's face. He quickly walked around the building and met Kagome on the other side. She wasn't looking and crashed into him stumbling to catch her balance.

Inuyasha instinctively grabbed her around the waist and held her up.

"Thanks, sorry about that." Kagome looked up to the amber eyes.

"Your the guy from the movie store." she said in slight anger, but Inuyasha saw the undying warmth in her eye's and he smiled.

"I'm also your waiter."

"Oh your hair changed. And your ears."

"Hai," he looked for a resonable excuse for the sudden change, "I wear a mask." 'that was dumb' he told himself.

"Can I help you with something?"

"No, I just saw you run out like the house was on fire and thought you might like a friend."

"Thank you, but I am all right. Not that you care but I get dizzy spells and I don't feel well."

"How long has it happened for?"

"'bout four days. Why?"

"No reason. I think I can explain though," she gave him a question in gaze, "the marks on your neck may have something to do with it."

Kagome's eye's widened in shock, she was wearing a turtle neck on both occasions that he saw her. *How did he know of the marks?*

Inuyasha smiled at her confusion and walked away hopping into his silver Ferrari and speeding off before she even blinked.

"What happened?" Shippo asked, having been conned into 'guarding the car'.

"Hojo put the moves on her and being the faithful girlfriend she is she ran out. I told her that her headaches might stem from the bite marks on her neck. She stood confused and I walked away."

"Your horrible you know that? Why don't you just tell her who you are."

"In time young fox, in time."
§¤~*§¤~

"That boy I know him. His eye's are so comforting and familiar. Why do you know him?" Kagome lay in her bed thinking of the silver haired boy. The well flashed before her eyes and rested on a pair of amber eyes and the familiar dull hammering reentered her mind as she fell into an ironically content slumber.
