Chapter 3: I'll pick you up at three.
"Later dad." Shippo laughed heartily as he closed the door of the Ferrari and ran up the steps to the school. It was raining and he didn't want to walk.
Inuyasha peeled away from the school and back to his house.
"Inuyasha." Sesshomaru looked up from his paper, as the elevator door 'binged'. The calm classical music he was listening too momentarily interrupted by "Mission Impossible".
"Yes?" Inuyasha responded in the same droll manner. He immediately went to the CD Player and switched the ten-disc changer to disc number seven and cranked the volume up a few notches. The sounds of 'A Fire Inside' resounding through the apartment.
"You have a message here from Kouga. He would like to meet with you to discuss a certain 'goddess' we all know." Sesshomaru made sarcastic quotes in the air with his clawed hands. He had given up trying to get Inuyasha to listen to 'his' music and allowed his foot to tap along with the beats of the music.
Inuyasha flung himself on the couch and gathered his cell phone out of his large pocket.
"Hey Kouga... Yeah... Hai I know she doesn't remember anything... how did you find out?... Oh, Ayume... Plot?... You have Ayume why do you care about Kag?... She's my mate runt... Oh shut up wolf boy.... whatever... Feh.... all right, I'll call ya tomorrow... bye." Inuyasha clicked the cell phone off and threw it on the couch beside him.
"Glad to see you getting along." Sesshomaru commented from behind the business section.
"Feh. At least we aren't ripping out each other's throats. Not that that wouldn't be fun."
"You haven't grown up one bit, you know that? For as long as we have been living together, or at least talking in general, you have been a snide little brat and you will never change."
"Feh." Inuyasha crossed his arms and didn't say another word.
"Don't you have work or something?" Sesshomaru asked after a while.
"It's Monday. I have Monday's, Sunday's, Saturday's and Friday's off." Inuyasha answered.
"Oh yes. My mistake."
A few minutes spanned between them before Inuyasha interrupted the silence, "Sess?"
"Mmm,"
"Do you ever get lonely? For as long as we've been around you've never had a mate."
"Life isn't all about mating brother Through many Youkai think it is."
"I know. But, I love Kag, life with out her is meaningless. Don't you ever just want someone to talk to? To share your emotions with? You had that little Rin for a while but she was more like your daughter."
"Yes, Rin was a nice girl. I don't really need a mate though. I have you brother. I can talk to you and trust you to be there for me. And I suppose I Have the runt." Inuyasha sat dumbstruck. He had no idea his brother had those thoughts.
"Enough with being sentimental." Sesshomaru made an exasperated noise as though clearing his throat. "What is your plan for winning over the Miko?"
"Well, Kouga and I are going to converse tomorrow. Should I tell her who I am? Explain it? Maybe jog her memory."
"I don't see why not. I am still slightly confused as to why the Shikon no Tama didn't want her to have her memories."
"Probably something to do with the annoying continuum. Thought it might be because her and I weren't meant to mate until now, in her time." Inuyasha pondered this for a few minutes while Sesshomaru contemplated his own theory.
"Well, it seems we need food. There is a list on the notepad on the refrigerator have fun. If you take long enough you can pick Shippo up from school at three."
"Gee, thanks." Inuyasha walked to the kitchen and ripped of the sticky note from the fridge. He put the CD player back on to Sesshomaru's classical music - meriting a "thank you" for his brother - Slipped on his Nikes and disappeared into the elevator.

"Hey Kagome!" Shippo ran up behind the girl as she closed her locker.
"Hey Shippo." she said cheerfully "I'll see you guys later." her friends smiled and walked off in the other direction while Shippo walked Kagome to English.
"Hey I was wondering if you would want to come over after school today. My, err, guardians, don't know I am inviting you but they wont care. Do you want to?"
"Sure. I should be home by six though, so my mom doesn't freak out when I'm not home when she gets there. Would that be okay?"
"That is fine. My, eh, dad, will probably pick us up from school since it's raining."
"Cool." the bell resounded through the hall and Kagome and Shippo quickly ducked into their English class before the teacher noticed they were late.

"Chicken. . . Chicken. . . Breast or thigh? Man that's dirty. . . I hate shopping!" Inuyasha rambled to himself as he tried to decipher the difference in meats. "Now I just need "Zen Garden Herbal Tea"? yuck. . . Let's go with some Pepsi. . ." Inuyasha chuckled, thinking of how Sesshomaru would kill him if he didn't get his Herbal Tea in the morning.
Finally finding all the items on the list, and picking up a few snacks that looked particularly tasty, Inuyasha proceeded to the check out line. 'Come on lady! Could ya take any longer?' Inuyasha was in a bad mood, and he couldn't figure out why, but waiting for the old lady in front of him to fill out her check was aggravating him even more. 'Finally'.
"That comes to ninety seven sixty five." the man working announced.
"Ninety seven sixty five? Geez, when I was growing up you could get all this for a cow." the man gave Inuyasha a confused look, but ignored the peculiar comment.
"Eh, never mind. MasterCard?" the man nodded and Inuyasha handed over the card.
"I'll need to see some I.D." he said. Inuyasha handed him his drivers license. *Do I have the concealing spell on? I hope so, my license is me as a human.* Inuyasha worries were soon over as the young man said "Have a nice day." Inuyasha signing his name to the store recite.
"You too." he responded automatically.
Inuyasha decided that he didn't have enough time to go home and then go back to the school to get Shippo, so he went straight to the school. He took off the concealing spell and allowed his silver hair and ears to return. It was still raining as hard as it was that morning. Inuyasha could barely see two feet in front of him. He kept changing the radio to the 'weather watch' to make sure no roads were flooded.
"See ya later Kyle." Shippo called as his friend ran to the back parking lot.
"Shippo!" Kagome yelled, "I'll see you guys later." her friends smiled and she ran up to Shippo.
"Hey Kagome, I was wondering where you were. I forgot that you had Advanced Pottery. I hope, err, dad shows up soon."
"I am looking forward to meeting him." she thought for a moment before piecing Inuyasha with Shippo at the movie store. *Nah, that can't be his dad. That was just a friend of his. Yeah. That's it .*
Shippo gave a nervous chuckle, but didn't say anything. He didn't want to scare her into not coming over. The harder it rained the more Shippo prayed Inuyasha or Sesshomaru would come get him. "Man I wish I had my license. Sess doesn't think I should get it for another year or two." Kagome tried to remember where she heard that name before and the headache that had been throbbing dully within her head for the past ten minutes came into full effect. She took three capsules of the very handy Ibuprofen that she, now, never left home without.
"You should get medicine for chronic headaches. Your doctor can give it to you." Shippo suggested, not realizing that the simple mention of Sesshomaru's name was the cause of her headache. "Oh good," Shippo spotted the silver Ferrari, "Here's daddy." Inuyasha honked the horn loudly, not wanting to get out in the rain.
Shippo and Kagome ran to the car, Shippo opened the front door, motioning for Kagome to stand back for a minute. "Hey, can my friend come over? Just for a while." Inuyasha looked past Shippo to see Kagome with her back pack over her head, blocking the rain. His heart sank.
"I'm going to hurt you, you know that." he whispered so soft Shippo had to strain to hear him.
"Come on Kagome. It's all set." Shippo opened the back door for her and allowed her to climb in before he closed the door and sat up next to Inuyasha.
"Thank you so much Sir for allowing me to visit on such short- It's you!" she looked up for the first time to see Inuyasha. "You're Shippo's father? I never would have imagined. Oh my, what a small world indeed. What do you know about my neck?"
"Wow okay, one question at a time. I am not Shippo's father. I am his guardian." Inuyasha chose to ignore her later question.
"My parents died when I was really young. They were killed by horrible people know as 'The Thunder Brothers'. Anyway, a really nice young girl, she was fifteen when we met her, she looked after me for about three years after their death and when she," he looked for a word that could sum up Kagome's odd disappearance, "moved Inuyasha and his pals, Miroku, Sango and Lady Kaede, kept an eye out for me. Now I live with Inuyasha and his half brother Sesshomaru." Kagome took in all the names and tried not to think of the pain welling inside her head.
"Why did the girl move? Didn't she ever talk to you again?"
"She didn't mean to move, I don't think. She didn't speak to me for years after that. She didn't speak to any of us. Not even Inuyasha."
"Shut up Shippo." Inuyasha scolded.
"What, I am just telling her so she doesn't get confused."
"She is already confused Shippo, shut up. Besides she doesn't want to here your stupid stories, it happened in the past." Shippo laughed at this.
"I don't mind hearing, if Shippo doesn't mind telling me. It all seems familiar, like I read about it once or something." Shippo smiled again. "Why would Inuyasha be more special then the rest of you?"
"Inuyasha was the girls mate." Shippo answered.
"Shippo I mean it, shut up."
"She was his mate? Does that mean they, sorry to be so graphic, they had sex? But she was only fifteen."
"Well they didn't mate until she was seventeen. And mating is slightly more involved then just having sex."
"Oh. What was her name?"
Inuyasha turned the radio up almost as loud as it would go. He couldn't stand talking about Kagome like she was someone else. He wanted her to remember but he didn't want to beat around the bush not saying names, and he didn't want to say her name now. In time he would explain the whole thing, but he had to get her to trust him first.
The silver Ferrari pulled into the familiar parking lot. "You guys got to help me with the groceries." Inuyasha said as he shut off the car. He popped the trunk to reveal many bags and Shippo groaned loudly.
"Hey, don't even give me that." Inuyasha gave him a stern look and the groaning ended almost immediately.
§¤~*~
"I'll help you with those." Sesshomaru helped take the groceries off the elevator and brought them through to the kitchen.
"Hello, it is nice to see you," Sesshomaru held out his hand to Kagome. "My name is Sesshomaru Tenkai. I am Shippo's guardian." Kagome shook hands with Sesshomaru and stated her name.
Inuyasha and Sesshomaru stocked the shelves while Kagome and Shippo talked in the living room; classical music still playing softly in the background.
"Oh, I love this song. Beethoven's Fifth Concerto." Kagome said humming a few notes from the song.
"Do you listen to classical music often?" Shippo asked curiously.
"Sometimes. For the most part I listen to modern rock, alternative stuff. Every once in a while I like to just relax to a beautiful orchestra."
"Yash hates it. He changes it the second he walks in the door. I am surprised he hasn't changed it by now."
"Thank you for reminding me Ship." Inuyasha changed the disk to Lost Prophets and cranked up the volume.
"Oh my gods, I love this song." Kagome commented.
"Really? Me too. They are coming to the State Theater in two weeks." Inuyasha said happily.
"Really? Oh I want to go. I could never get tickets in two weeks though." Inuyasha smiled vindictively.
"My friend Kouga and I were going to go but he made other plans so I have an extra ticket. Would you like to go with me?"
"I would feel really awkward honestly. I mean, I don't really know you." Kagome blushed a bit and found the floor very interesting.
"Don't worry. I know this sounds creepy but I'll take care of you. I am fun to hang out with."
"He really is." Shippo added
"Okay then, I'd love to!" Kagome's happiness was momentarily brought to an end, "But my mom would kill me, especially since I hardly know you"
"I'll talk to your mom. It'll be cool."
"Great! How much were the tickets? I'll pay you back."
"Don't even worry about it. My treat." Sesshomaru silently called him into the kitchen. "I'll be right back."
"Brother?" Sesshomaru implied that Inuyasha had some explaining to do.
"Look Sess, Kouga and I really were going to go but I can make up something. Besides, it will be like a date."
"That is the problem. You have to tell her."
"I will, I will. When the time comes. I just, I want her to trust me."
"You can't earn her trust by lying all this time."
"Good point. But I don't know if I want to tell her now. She kind of looks happy." he earned another stern look from his brother, "Okay, after the Lost Prophets Concert, I promise."
§¤~*§¤~
"Sesshomaru and Inuyasha seem like very nice people. I look forward to going to the concert with Yash."
"Inuyasha will be pleased to hear that. He is a really nice guy, I know once you get to know him you'll love him."
"Shippo? What was Inuyasha's 'mate's' name?" Kagome tilted her head in curiosity.
"It really isn't my place to say. It wasn't even my place to speak of her in the first place. Sorry."
"Oh, don't worry about it. I shouldn't pry into the poor guys life."
Kagome looked around the shrine steps. It wasn't raining anymore, various puddles littered the front lawn. "Thanks for the ride home." she hugged Shippo and turned to wave to Inuyasha, sitting comfortably in his silver Ferrari. "See ya tomorrow."
"Bye Kagome. And try not to think to much of what we told you." Kagome looked at him curiously but thought no more of it.
