Chapter 4: Excuses
*Of course I can't help but think of them now that he said not to. I wonder if he did that on purpose. . His parents were murdered? That is horrible. By people named 'the thunder brother's'? I know I have heard that name before. *

"Hey Kouga." Inuyasha gave a manly hug to the man greeting him.
"Hey Yash. How is Kagome?"
"She doesn't remember a thing still, but she is doing okay. She gets headaches when she is around another guy. Well you know that. I hate seeing her in pain, but until she remembers it's going to happen. She gets headaches when she tries to remember. Do you think she'll get her memories back Kouga?"
"Can I get you boys anything?" a short young girl asked.
"No thank you." they replied in unison
"I think so. Some day. You just need to jog her memory a bit." Kouga replied thoughtfully ignoring the interruption from the waitress.
"I guess so. I really hope she remembers. I've waited so long to see her and now I have to make her fall in love with me again. Though, it is well worth it, just to hold her in my arms, watch her smile." Inuyasha smiled contently; his voice trailed off and he was in deep thought.
"Hey buddy." Kouga snapped his fingers in front of Inuyasha's face and Inuyasha snapped back to reality.
"Sorry about that. I need her back Kouga, what are we going to do?"
"Look behind you." Kouga smiled as Inuyasha turned his head, Kagome was walking up the street with a group of girls.
"We have to go." Inuyasha stood up but Kouga grabbed his arm and pulled him back down.
"Let's see if she sees us. Just keep talking."
"About what?"
"Anything. What about the LostProphets Concert we are going to."
"Oh, crap. . . About that. . ."
"Inuyasha! Hey!" Kagome stopped by the small fence and looked at the boy's sitting outside the small cafe.
"Hey Kagome." Inuyasha replied, "This is my friend Kouga."
"Oh, hey Kouga." she held her hand out for him and he accepted it. "It's nice to meet you. Sorry you can't go to the concert." Kouga looked at Inuyasha who smiled vaguely in an apologetic way.
"Oh, yeah, it's okay. What was it I am doing? Inuyasha?" Kouga fixed a death stare on Inuyasha and he gulped back nothing.
"Ayume, is very sick, you have to take care of her. You know that." Inuyasha made up the story quickly and Kagome stood confused.
"Who is Ayume? Is that your wife or daughter or something?"
"My wife, yes. She isn't very sick, not deathly. Though I think Inuyasha is."
"I am not sick Kouga. Ayume is. That is why you can't go to the concert." he tried to silently plea with Kouga to play along.
"Of course. Cause my wife is sick," he looked to Kagome "Yep."
"I am sorry to hear that. I don't know your wife, her name sounds familiar." the frequently occurring headache returned but she was used to them now and hardly even noticed, "Tell her to get better soon, feed her chicken soup, that always helps. I am sorry, I have to get home before Souta does. Talk to you later Yash. Nice meeting you Kouga."
"You too." Kagome walked away and Kouga looked to Inuyasha for an explanation.
"She loves LostProphets, I thought it was a way to get her to trust me and open up a bit before I broke the truth to her." Inuyasha said when Kagome was well out of ear shot.
"It's okay Yash."
"Feh. Good, not like I cared if you were mad or whatever." Inuyasha sat back in his chair.
"Pathetic mutt."
"You wanna make something of it wolf boy?" Inuyasha sat up again, threateningly.
"Let's go dog breath." Kouga and Inuyasha stood up, put twenty dollars on the table - ten each- and left the cafe.
They walked to the gym and proceeded to kick the crap out of each other. Inuyasha lost, but by a small margin.
"Nice. . . match. . . Kouga." he said, trying to catch his breath.
"Same. . . Yash. . . " Kouga responded.
"Well. . . I'll. . . see ya. . . later. . . " Inuyasha gave another manly hug to Kouga and turned to leave the gym.
"Later Yash." Kouga called after his retreating back.

Inuyasha parked his car and got out looking at the grounds. He walked behind the house to the gods tree. How many times did he fall asleep in that tree? He smiled at the memories of him and Kagome chasing each other around it. *How can I remember, when it happened so long ago?* He asked himself, *She isn't easy to forget .* His head reminded him. He walked over to the well house. Walking to the well he noticed there were no spell's on it, there was nothing different about the well. It was the same as he had always remembered it. * I wonder. * He felt through his shirt to feel the Shikon no Tama resting in its usual spot around his neck. He jumped.
He could hear birds chirping and the sound of voices. He climbed up the ivy and onto the other side.
"Inuyasha!" he looked around to see Kagome storming away from something. He hid up in a tree. "Inuyasha I am sick and tired of you always running away when you get annoyed, or uncomfortable. I can't stand you!" the girl growled deeply as a timid hanyou came up over the hill. Inuyasha watched as he himself - five hundred years ago- climbed the grassy knoll.
"Kagome, please don't be mad at me. I am sorry." he never said that to anyone. She smiled but quickly hid it as she turned around.
"Inuyasha, just tell me. What is it that you are feeling? Let me into your life."
Inuyasha sat in the tree, *I remember this day. . . It was the best day of my life.*
"Kagome. . . I. . . I'm afraid to tell you." he admitted, looking at the ground.
"Afraid to tell me what?" she walked closer to the hanyou and lifted his head to look at her. Her sweet, angelic smile urged him to continue.
"Hanyou's aren't meant to fall in love." he whispered, so softly, he wasn't sure he was speaking at all.
"What?" Kagome questioned, only hearing one simple word. . . love.
"Hanyou's aren't meant to fall in love." he spoke louder, "We are outcasts, unaccepted, my own brother thinks I am worthless. We are suppose to be killed at birth, never to disgrace the earth with our presence, never to be allowed in the sight of decent people." he spoke bitterly, angrily.
"Inuyasha, I don't underst-" Kagome tried to calm him down, but he spoke before she had a chance.
"I love you Kagome. . . I have for a while now, I've just been too scared to say or do anything about it. I was afraid I would scare you and you would run home and I'd never see you again." Kagome stood in complete shock. "I am not meant to fall in love. But I am. I am in love with you." Kagome listened to his words. After a moment of tense, unadulterated silence (to which even the birds seemed to quiet) she spoke.
"I love you too Inuyasha." she threw her arms around him and silent, joyous tears fell down her cheeks. Inuyasha picked her up and twirled around.
He set her down and kissed her with the passion he had been holding in since he realized he was in love with her. She had no problem returning every ounce of his passion. Inuyasha caressed her back and lifted her legs, pulling them around his waist. He spun again and Kagome laughed with delight.
"I love you." he said again, Kagome had no more words, she leaned close to him and put her head against his heart.
Inuyasha watched his favorite memory relived before his eye's. Finally the couple left the well and he had a chance to jump back in, but he didn't. He jumped across the tree's to Kaede's hut.
He watched as Miroku chased Sango around the campfire and she yelled back complaining about what a Hentai he was. Inuyasha laughed and shook his head. Sure he had had a lot of friends in his life - including the ones he had now- but no friends were ever as remarkable as the ones he saw before him.
He felt a small tear in his eye as he watched the couple - Kagome and himself- near the hut. Kagome defending Sango and jokingly calling Miroku a lecher. Kaede sat by Shippo both of them shaking their heads at the four.
"I miss you guys." Inuyasha felt his eye's water and he quickly looked away from the picture before him. He blinked back threatening tears and quickly jumped away from the group and back into the well.
Back in modern times he heard the hustle and bustle of the city streets and sighed heavily to himself. He climbed out of the well and knocked on the Higarashi residence door.
"Hello? Oh hello dear, come on in." Mrs. Higarashi led Inuyasha inside.
"Hi. I wanted to take Kagome to a concert, but she didn't feel right about going, so she wanted me to ask you. I thought it was kind of funny because of the situation, but she doesn't know obviously."
"Oh that sounds lovely dear. Which concert?"
"LostProphets."
"Is that one of those metal bands that go about screaming there lungs out and calling it music?" she asked glaring at Inuyasha.
"No ma'am. They scream a couple times, but really they are a normal band."
"Oh, good. I will let her know she can go. It will be fun. Have you told her yet? Who you are?" Inuyasha shook his head.
"I told Sess I would do it after the concert. I just want her to open up a little first ya know?" Mrs. Higarashi nodded thoughtfully, "anyway, I'll see ya around. Tell Kag I said 'hi'."
Inuyasha got into his car and drove out of the driveway, noticing Kagome walking up the street he smiled contently, waving to her before speeding off down to the road.

*Of course I can't help but think of them now that he said not to. I wonder if he did that on purpose. . His parents were murdered? That is horrible. By people named 'the thunder brother's'? I know I have heard that name before. *
