Chapter 7: I promised

"Kagome?" Kagome looked over at her mother and smiled half-heartedly. "You should talk to him. He calls for you, comes by. I even saw him watching you at work. You can't avoid him forever."

"Oh yes I can. He is a creepy stalker mom. He makes up this elaborate story about demons and magical jewel's. Kami he is worse than grandpa. Now you believe him? Is the whole world against me here?"

"Now the world is not against you. We just want you to remember. You had a bit of a headache that day you woke up. April second wasn't it? You thought you hit your head or something. Terrible headache as it were. I asked you where Inuyasha was and you looked at me like I dropped off another planet." Kagome remembered the conversation. *My mother knew about Inuyasha long before I did. Could she be in on this too? Maybe it is all true. *

"Kagome. Please. Talk to him."

"No."

Inuyasha watched Kagome walk down the isle in her white gown. He sat next to her mother who was beyond tears at this point. Inuyasha couldn't help but feel proud of her. One of the most important days of her life, and he got to watch it. Though Kagome had no idea he was there. Kagome sat down next to all her classmates. She still stood out even though all the gown's were the same.

He watched as one-by-one people administrators and staff made speeches about how each child was unique and was 'really going places' in life. Kagome gave her speech - being the valedictorian- and everyone loved it. Now Inuyasha watched as each child was handed there diploma. Sesshomaru and him clapped loudly as Shippo received his.

"That's my boy!" Inuyasha called happily. Shippo blushed, seeing Inuyasha stand up and whistle. Inuyasha sat down and continued watching.

"Higarashi, Kagome." Inuyasha clapped just as loudly as he did for Shippo, but didn't stand or whistle. Had she believed him to be her mate, he probably would have made a big to do about it. Instead he bit his tongue and sat silently.

"Hey Shippo. I'm proud of you little guy!" Inuyasha hugged Shippo before allowing him into the car.

"Thanks. I saw your standing-o. That was pretty cool DAD." Shippo laughed and Inuyasha commented with

"Well I gotta represent my boy." he laughed with Shippo.

"Yes son, I was very proud of you as well." Sesshomaru added from the drivers seat.

"Aww come on, I'm blushin'." Shippo couldn't stop smiling.

"Hey, you know that trip you wanted to take. Somewhere. You want to go? Now that you have the summer off before college, or whatever you are going to do with your life." Inuyasha turned around in his seat to better see the Kitsune.

"Hai! I would love to. But, what about Kagome?"

"She isn't going to talk to me anytime soon. Besides, I promised. Where do you want to go? I'll book tickets, we can leave in like three weeks."

"How about Italy? Or England? Or Spain? Or Germany? How about we backpack through Europe? Oh but I want to go to Brazil, and Egypt. Maybe we could go to Egypt from Europe, then take a quick little trip to Brazil. What about Australia?" Shippo continued to ramble off countries or particular features of the world he wanted to see.

"Looks like you are in for a long summer brother."

"Hai. But, it'll be good for us all."

"Oh and then we can see the Eiffel tower, and what is that place in California, the San Diego Zoo. And we can go to Canada and maybe go to Ontario or Quebec. Oh and we should go to Niagara Falls. . . "

"Hey Sess." the static on the phone was horrible and Inuyasha had to yell over the loud planes of the terminal anyway. "Look's like we are going to be gone, at least another six weeks. There are too many places in the world. I'll call you from Honolulu." with that he hung up the phone. Sesshomaru smiled, imagining Shippo's excitement at finally being able to go all the places he had dreamed of for so long.

"Your summer has been less than eventful." Eri commented as Kagome sat behind her desk at work and watched a movie she borrowed from the store.

"Hai. Work sucks."

"It isn't just that. You've been asked out by like thirty guys this month alone, and you say no to them all. Why?"

"Well, I've been thinking a lot about college next month, I guess I am just getting a little nervous."

"Why? You've already been accept and registered for your top choice school. What more is there to care about?"

"Well, that is just the problem. I am going to school in Boston. In America! I don't know anyone in America. I don't even know why I applied there!"

"Come on Kagome. Your friends will be with you in spirit. You know it will be fun. You can come back in the summer and we can catch up then. It will be a blast. I mean, we'll miss you and all. But nothing will ever stop us from being best friends- not even the pacific ocean."

"Thanks Eri. I am going to miss you guys." Kagome felt tears roll down her cheek as she hugged her friend closely.

"Oh Kag. Don't even worry. You still have two weeks with us. Looks like we'll just have to make them the best two weeks ever."

"Hey Sess. I don't think I am ever coming home. Shippo wants to go to Berlin, and then to Sweden." Inuyasha laughed. "Hai, we are in Venezuela right now. Our plane leaves in an hour. Have you heard from Kagome? She is. . . Oh. . . Well, I hope Boston treat's her well. . . How did you find out?. . . Ahh, Mrs. H. . . Hai, Okay. . . I gotta finish packing. Talk to you when we get to Berlin. Bye."

"Good bye Kagome!" Eri, and Yuki hugged Kagome closely.

"Oh I love you guys. I am going to miss you so much." she reluctantly let go of her friends and turned to her mom. "I love you mom. I'll call all the time."

"Just don't forget the time difference. I don't want to be woken up at three in the morning." she smiled at her daughter, "But if it is you I would be more then happy too." Kagome hugged her mom and felt more tears run down her face.

"Bye grandpa. I'll miss you." she gingerly hugged the old man.

"Watch out for evil spirits." was his only advice.

"Bye Souta." she hugged her little brother, who was getting very tall and she didn't have to kneel down to hug him anymore. "I'll miss you most."

"Oh great, an emotional sister on the loose." Kagome roughed up his hair and smiled as he tried to fix it.

"Bye everyone. I love you." Kagome walked through the terminal and followed the path to the airplane.
