Chapter 13: Friend or Foe?
"Bye Mrs. H." Inuyasha placed his hand gently on the small of Kagome's back and guided her out the door.
"Bye Mom, I'll call you tomorrow." Kagome smiled slightly and walked with Inuyasha.
§¤*~
"Well, I'll see ya later hai?" Kagome said upon reaching her apartment door.
"You shouldn't be alone. I'll stay with you." Inuyasha responded.
"Don't worry, its okay. I'll be fine. Besides, I don't have enough food to accommodate your appetite."
"Then you'll just have to come to my house." Inuyasha said defiantly as he gently pulled Kagome away from her apartment door.
§¤*~
"Hey Ship. Hey Sess." Inuyasha threw his keys on the coffee table and Kagome sat down beside him.
"Wait a second, you and Sesshomaru are. . . friends?"
"Hai. Don't you remember from when you came over before? Anyway, we spent the better part of like three hundred years hating each other, then we just decided to be friends."
"Though I still despise you half-breed." Sesshomaru almost laughed at his own comment from behind his book.
"Feh."
"Hello Miko. Glad to see you have your memories back."
"Sesshomaru." Kagome responded coolly.
"Kagome?" Shippo came in from the kitchen with a coke, "Does she remember?" Inuyasha nodded, and Shippo jumped toward Kagome enveloping her in a hug.
"Hey Shippo!"
"Hey back off shrimp." Inuyasha challenged threateningly.
"Inuyasha, be nice." Kagome smiled sweetly.
"Hai, hai."
"See, even after five hundred years she still likes me more." Shippo stuck out his tongue and Inuyasha gave a threatening glare.
"Watch it buddy."
"Come and catch me why don't ya!" with that Shippo jumped away from the coffee table and ran down the hall. Inuyasha chased him through the kitchen, down the hall into Sesshomaru's office and back out into the living room.
Kagome laughed at their childish behavior. She remembered how many times she had seen this very picture in the past. Shippo being chased by Inuyasha down the long dirt road, or around the campfire while Sango was trying to fight off Miroku. A loud shattering brought her out of her thoughts.
"Opps." Inuyasha and Shippo looked down at the shattered pieces of a broken vase.
"Please tell me that wasn't the vase I got from Crystal-Lynn in sixteen seventy eight."
"Okay, it wasn't," Shippo lied. Sesshomaru put his book down and cringed. He opened his eye's and looked over to see his half-brother and Shippo standing next to the broken vase.
"You do realize Crystal-Lynn-" he broke off, "Clean it please, don't leave a mess for Tsubasa." with that he took his book and left the room.
"I can help you with that." Kagome smiled and walked over to the broken piece's of glass, gently picking up each piece.
§¤*~
"Who was Crystal-Lynn?" Kagome asked.
"No one." Inuyasha was busy nipping gently on her neck and he didn't feel like explaining.
"Inuyasha," Kagome moved slowly away from him. His bed was huge and she had plenty of room to move. Inuyasha ceased his actions and sat up.
"Crystal-Lynn was Sesshomaru's girlfriend in the year sixteen hundred and seventy or something. She came over here from Scotland. Her family was murdered by a particularly nasty breed of demon. Sesshomaru took a liking to her, he was going to mate with her but she was killed. Since then he hasn't really even talked to anyone except Shippo and I. Well, he talks to people, but only when it comes to business." Inuyasha thoughtfully pondered if he had left anything out.
"Oh. So that is why he doesn't have a mate." Kagome commented.
"Hai, I guess."
"That is kind of sad." Kagome moved closer to Inuyasha and rested her head on his shoulder. He put his arm around her and rested his head atop hers.
"I love you Kagome."
"I love you too Inuyasha." the couple sat in silence until Kagome spoke again, "We should do something nice for him!" Kagome sat up suddenly, ruining the peaceful moment.
"Like what?"
"I have an idea. We can glue the vase back together. Then we can, well I don't know, but we can glue the vase back together."
"Two things wrong with that, one - that vase was completely shattered, two - all the pieces are in the trash."
"We can find them. Come on, everyone is asleep."
§¤*~
"Come on I am tired, it's like five in the morning." Inuyasha said through a yawn.
"We're almost done. Besides, it's helping me."
"How?" he yawned again.
"It's keeping my mind off, well, my Grandfather." Kagome carefully placed another piece of the vase together with Krazy Glue.
Inuyasha didn't respond, he hadn't thought about how she must be feeling. Kagome and her Grandfather had always been very close.
"There!" Kagome smiled excitedly as she placed the last piece of vase in its proper place.
"Wow. It actually looks good. But will it leak water?"
"Umm, good point. Well we'll let it dry until morning and then we'll test it." Kagome stood up and stretched. "Lets go to bed." Inuyasha had no qualm's with that as he hopped into his bed and fell instantly to sleep.
The next morning, or rather later that morning, Kagome woke up and took the vase to the bathroom. The vase held water and didn't leak from any point. She smiled with delight as she emptied the vase and went back into Inuyasha's room.
"I was wondering where you ran off too." Inuyasha said as he opened his eye's lazily.
"It works. Holds water I mean."
"Cool, I'm going back to bed." Kagome rolled her eye's and noticed classical music coming from the living room.
"Hey Sesshomaru."
"Call me 'Sess' everyone else does and it feels awkward that you don't."
"Fine, Sess. I have something you might like." he looked up from the CD player and turned to face Kagome. "Inuyasha and I put it back together for you."
"Thank you. This means a lot to me." he almost smiled and Kagome could feel the warmth in his words.
"You are welcome." Sesshomaru took the vase and placed it on the top of the entertainment center, with the intention of later finding a safer home for it.
"What did your Grandfather say before he passed on?"
Kagome didn't take much time to marvel at how he knew her Grandfather had died, or that he knew her Grandfather left a 'message'. "He said that Inuyasha wasn't an evil spirit but that Souta's girlfriend was. I laughed at that. He also said Kikyou's work was not done, but I don't know what he meant by that."
"He didn't say anything else about, anyone?" Sesshomaru asked as he searched Kagome for answers.
"No." Kagome responded after a moment of thought.
"Very well. Where is the mutt anyway?"
"Watch it pal or that vase won't be the only thing I'll break of yours." Inuyasha had come out from his room and wrapped his arms around Kagome.
"I am petrified." Sesshomaru said sarcastically. Kagome smiled to herself at the two boys bickering.
Kagome took the time to notice that Sesshomaru was definately getting on in his years. His silver hair didn't hold as much shine as she remembered from the past and it seemed as though he had trouble with his eyes. (She noticed he had a pair of reading glasses on the side-stand where he usually sat).
"Hungry Kagome?" he asked suddenly.
"No, thank you though." Sesshomaru nodded and began walking through the kitchen toward his office.
"No thanks Sess I am not hungry either!" Inuyasha called sarcastically after him.
"I thought not." he retorted.
"Well I am!" Shippo said as he walked in.
"Great, now I get to cook for the runt too." Inuyasha moseyed into the kitchen and began preparing breakfast.
"Inuyasha? What happened to Sango and Miroku? Did they live a long life? Together?" Kagome asked, sitting on the kitchen counter, swinging her feet absent mindedly.
"Hai. They lived to be about fifty, which was pretty old back then. Sango did end up bearing Miroku's children. Three of them. Two girls and a little boy. They were happy till the end of their days. Lady Kaede died a few months after you left for good. I took care of Shippo, obviously. Than there was Kouga and Sess always around."
"What did happen to Kouga?" Kagome thought for a second, "Oh wait, I saw him at the Pizza shop with you once."
"Hai, he is doing fine. Wanna go see him or something?"
"Sure, if you don't mind."
"Well of course I mind, but if you want to whatever."
"Thanks Yash."
???*~
"Hey Kouga." Inuyasha high-fived Kouga as they greeted each other in front of the gym.
"Hey Yash." his eye's darted to Kagome. "Hey Kag."
"Hello Kouga."
"Heard you got your memories back." he smiled and hugged her, meriting a low growl from Inuyasha.
"Ease up mutt. Geez, five hundred years and he still gets jealous." Kouga laughed and Kagome smiled. "Besides your growl isn't nearly as intimidating when you are in your human form. Not that it was ever really intimidating to begin with."
"Feh"
Kagome rolled her eyes. She was glad the boys had sort of become friends, but were the insults neccessary?
"Yes, the insults are necessary." Inuyasha seemed to read her mind.
Kagome sighed inwardly, smiling at the boys.
"So what do you say to a quick round?" Kouga asked Inuyasha. Kagome looked at them, raising her brow slightly in a questioning manner.
"Hai, lets go."
"Go? Go where?"
"It's a guy thing." Kouga said.
"You wanna watch?" Inuyasha asked sweetly.
"Eh? Um. . . . sure"
"In we go."
"Fuck, I forgot my member's card."
"Dude, don't they know you by now?"
"Hai. All right whatever, lets just go."
"Wrestling. In the gym. Oh, so that is what you guys were talking about." Kagome smiled, comprehension having dawned on her. They walked into the tall gray building they met in front of. The room they were in now was usually used to teach Karate but there were no sessions today. Kouga and Inuyasha stood in the center of the mat, preparing to fight.
"What did you think we were talking about?"
With that they began to fight. Kagome watched Kouga take many hits, he didn't seem to be trying that hard, either that or Inuyasha was trying exceptionally hard to impress Kagome. Inuyasha had begun fighting in his human form but somewhere between his fist in Kouga's face and Kouga's knee in Inuyasha's stomach he had changed. Blood flew across the room and Kagome flinched when either of them would be thrown inches from her. Kagome was quite bored after about ten minutes, she began looking out the window's, which served as walls, for something better to look at. There were a few little kids that were getting ready for their swim lessons in the pool room, other than that the gym was pretty dead. Kagome was about to look back to the fight when she noticed someone who looked very familiar.
Without saying a word to the battling boys she stood and walked out of the Karate room. She followed the dark clad figure down the long winding hallway. There was a dead end, *which door did she go in?*
"Kagome?" Kagome turned around at her name being called.
"Hey Hojo." Things were still quite awkward between the two after the night they went on an offical date.
"How are you?"
"I am doing well. How are you?" Kagome asked feigning mild interest.
"Good." he looked around for a moment, realizing Kagome was standing at the end of a dead-end hallway, "Looking for something?"
"Actually I thought I saw someone. I guess not." she shrugged her shoulders. "Do you work out here a lot?"
"Hai, and I work here as a swimming instructor. I've also been giving Karate lesson's in my spare time."
"Oh, cool. I don't have a job right now. I just got back from school. So I don't have a steady job. I work at The Entertainment House once a week but other then that I am pretty focused on enjoying my summer." Kagome smiled thoughtfully.
"Do you come here to work out? I don't see you around here much."
"Actually I've never been here before today. I just came here with my-"
"Boyfriend." Inuyasha walked up behind Hojo, who turned suddenly to see who had spoken. Inuyasha walked passed Hojo and put his arm around Kagome.
"Hojo, this is Inuyasha. Inuyasha Hojo." Kagome pointed to each boy as she said their name.
"I know Hun, we met at the resturant."
"Oh of course, momentary blonde moment." Kagome pretended to hit herself in the head.
"You are the waiter." Hojo realized.
"Hai, hai I am. I'm also part owner of the resturant." Inuyasha smiled snootily.
"Oh. Fascinating." Hojo looked like he had more to say but didn't, "Well, Kagome, have a lovely day." he smiled and walked through one of the doors on the left.
"Bye!" Kagome called to him.
"Ugh, that guy irritates me." Inuyasha said when the door clicked shut.
"Calm down Sugar." Kagome mentally shook her head at the 'pet' name. "Who won the battle?"
"Actually we just kind of stopped fighting when we realized you were gone. Why did you leave?"
"I thought I saw someone, I wanted to talk to them, but I couldn't find them and then Hojo came and then you came so here we are."
"Who did you see?" Inuyasha asked with curiousity. Kagome debated telling him the truth. . .
"Kikyou. . . "
