Chapter 4
~~Unwanted Occurrences~~

It was well past morning and Sango saw that InuYasha was getting anxious. He was pacing back and forth past Hana, who was sitting there with Kagome learning the art of poker. On occasions, InuYasha's ears would perk up, but then they would just droop back down. She turned away only to find Shippou quietly rummaging through Kagome's pack.

“Looking for pocky, Shippou?” She asked softly.

Shippou nearly jumped out of his fur when he heard her. “Uh, hi Sango! How are you? I'm just…looking for something that isn't pocky. Well, it looks like I found it…ahem…I'm going to go now.” Shippou was immediately by Hana's side, trying to look at her cards. Sango smiled to herself as she closed Kagome's backpack. She turned just in time to hear Kagome herself say, “Gee, InuYasha. Usually, you're the one telling me to hurry up. What are we waiting for, anyway?”

InuYasha stopped and motioned to her for silence. Hana handed her cards to Shippou and stood up.

A small twister of dust was visible from where they were standing. Sango stood back. She knew what was coming; all she had to do was watch the fireworks go off. She knew of the Mating Season for demons and that it was a tortuous time for some of them, and she knew that InuYasha must be going through quite an experience.

“What are you still doing here, dog-shit?” Sango rolled her eyes. This was how it always was when they met up with Kouga. Kouga would come looking for a fight, and poor InuYasha would always be sat for it. She watched the scene unfurl.

Kagome was pushed behind InuYasha's back, and Hana was staring Kouga down although he had yet to acknowledge her.

“What do you want, stupid wolf?” InuYasha asked, even though it was obvious.

“I've come here to…” Kouga's voice faded off as he finally saw Hana. “I thought I felt a powerful aura.” He said with a half-assed grin. He moved over to Hana and looked her up and down.

Hana pushed him back a few feet. “Personal space, dude; learn to respect it.”

He chuckled. “The wench even has a sense of humor!”

She raised an eyebrow. “Watch it wolf, unless you feel like taking a trip to China.” She pulled her hand back.

Kouga let out a short laugh. “You think you can send me to China with a wave of your hand? Yeah, right, and InuYasha will actually take Kagome as his mate. In other words, it's never going to happen.”

Always expect the impossible, Kouga. Always expect the impossible.” Hana placed her hand in front of him and gave a short wave. They all watched as he was sent flying back twenty feet. A smug grin spread across Hana and InuYasha's face.

Hana wandered over to where Kouga lay. “You should listen to me more often, stupid wolf.”

His eyes flew open as he jumped up, grabbed her shoulders, and shook her. “Don't…tell me…what…to…do you…stupid...mutt!”

Hana retaliated by grabbing his own shoulders and sending him back hard into a tree. “I'll tell you to do whatever the fuck I want to!” She said as she clenched her hands into tight fists. Kouga's body lay motionless at the base of the tree.

“Damn,” She muttered. “He's not dead.” She kicked him lightly with the toe of her boot before she walked away into the trees. “Enjoy yourself, InuYasha.”

No one moved for a moment. After what seemed like forever, Kagome made the first move. She retrieved her backpack and inched her way over to Kouga's still unmoving body. She knelt beside him, pulled out her first aid kit, and brushed the hair away from his forehead. “Kouga…” She whispered. InuYasha meandered over and towered over both of them. He glanced down at her.

“I'll go find Hana.” He said quietly as he wandered into the forest.

Sesshoumaru ambled along the forest trail without a destination in mind. Something deep inside him was leading him somewhere; to go to a place he would not normally go. He caught himself several times a day thinking of that hanyou that left him so many years ago. She said she would return, didn't she? So why did he always feel like she had forgotten about him, and that she had found someone new? Sesshoumaru always wondered why he even cared what happened with her, and why he felt the way he did towards her. He remembered the first day he met her. It had only been four years ago, and she had somehow wandered onto castle grounds.

“Who are you? What do you want?” Sesshoumaru demanded, making the trespasser jump.

“Oh! Uh, I'm sorry, am I trespassing? I'll leave immediately.”

“Wait.” Sesshoumaru walked closer to her, almost standing nose to nose.

She gently pushed him back a few inches. “Personal space, if you don't mind.”

This angered him. He once again asked with cruelty in his voice, “Who are you and what do you want?”

She held up her hands in mock surrender. “No need to get angry; my name is Hana, and I come from the east. My father is the tai-youkai of the eastern lands, or was the tai-youkai anyway. My brother, Kiyoshi, is now the tai-youkai. I didn't like it there, so I decided to come here to see if it were any better….Are you the tai-youkai of the western lands?”

Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow but answered her anyway. “So, you come from the east, do you? How strange it is, that both of our fathers are dead, I am the tai-youkai of the west and Kiyoshi is the tai-youkai of the east, and we both unfortunately have hanyous as our siblings. Coincidences like this do not happen every day, do they.”

A small, warm smile spread across Hana's face. Her hand was reaching out to touch the Mokomoko-sama on his shoulder. Amazingly, he did not pull away. “It's so soft…” She whispered, putting both hands on it now. A purring sound began to emit from her. Hana brought the side of her face to it and started to rub it back and forth. That's where Sesshoumaru drew the line. He cleared his throat loudly. She immediately pulled away and took a step back.

“Sorry…” She said as a small giggle escaped her.

“Do you think that is funny?” He asked, folding his arms.

Her giggle had escalated into laughter. “Yes, yes I do!”

Sesshoumaru fought back the painful desire to slap her. Alas, overall the desire to slap her won. Her head snapped to the side and her laughter stopped at once. She slowly brought her head back, and narrowed her gold eyes. “You just made the biggest mistake of your life, buddy.” She said in a scathing voice while she extended her claws.

Sesshoumaru looked uninterested. “I think I will live.”

“I don't think you will!” With that, Hana had pounced on him, forcing him to fall. She had him pinned down, and he could feel the fire behind his eyes as his anger grew. She had a half-assed grin plastered on her face, and she had sat up to saddle him. Hana pinned his arms down by holding his wrists.

“Unhand me, foul wench!” He ordered.

“Make me.” She taunted.

Sesshoumaru easily flipped her to where he was now the one sitting on top of her. Her grin only got wider. “Why Sesshoumaru, I didn't know you liked me so much.” He growled at her words.

“The only thing I would like so much is if you would leave.” He replied heatedly.

Hana's smile faltered but didn't disappear completely. “I can do that…” She said. Effortlessly, she flipped him back over and saddled him once more. Though no emotion showed on his face, she figured Sesshoumaru would be wondering how she did that. Before he could get the question out, she answered.

“It's a little thing I'd like to call `telekinesis.'” She said, pointing to the rings on her fingers. “I inherited it from my mother. She was incredibly powerful; how she died is beyond me, though. I can also see the future and past. That, though, I inherited from my father. I can see what happened or is going to happen in another person's life, but I can't see my future. Sure, I can see my past, but not the future. Anyway, the rings I wear enable my powers. If something were to happen to my rings, such as they were to get lost, I wouldn't have my powers anymore; I would have to rely on pure strength. The ring on my left hand enables my telekinesis and visions, while the ring on my right hand enables me to be hanyou. Sound strange? Oh yes, I know it is. When I take off the ring on my right hand, I become human. It rocks because I can control when I turn human or not, but once a month I take it off to throw off the enemies.”

Sesshoumaru's face was unchanged. “Wow…very informative. Thank you.”

Her smile brightened. “You're very welcome.”

A scratchy voice could be heard from behind the bushes. “Lord Sesshoumaru? Where are you?”

The next thing they knew, Jaken stepped out from behind the bushes, his beak wide open. Sesshoumaru tilted his head back to see him. He was aiming his Staff of Two Heads at Hana. “Jaken, stop, she is not a threat…not really, anyway.” He commanded.

Hana had a look of determination on her face as she put her fists up. “Come on, I can take this dumb toad. Bring it on, toady.”

Sesshoumaru pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes. “Hana…”

Of course, Hana had managed to kick Jaken's ass. He still says that when he sees her again he'll beat her. Sesshoumaru made a deal with Jaken; he is to never tell anyone what he saw and Sesshoumaru wouldn't tell anyone that he got his ass kicked by a female hanyou. Jaken sighed behind him. Sesshoumaru still hasn't forgiven his father for giving him such an annoying servant. He would've rather had the flea; at least the flea would leave him alone for long periods. A slight scowl settled over his flawless features. He wanted to stop and go back to the castle, but his feet would not stop moving in that one direction. Something inside him ached, a dull ache that would not go away. He has tried to stunt the growth of the ache by training, training to become the best and not need anyone. Somehow, it sounded impossible then, and it still sounds impossible. He could always feel the hot tears stinging the back of his eyes, but he would not allow them to fall.

`How on earth could this have happened to me? I am Sesshoumaru, Lord of the western lands. I do not feel such foolish human emotions. I will not allow myself to feel this way…especially for a hanyou.' He thought as he heard Jaken sigh for the second time. He came to an abrupt halt, causing Jaken to crash into the back of his legs.

“Jaken, stay here; don't move.” He said, his feet moving once more.

`I wonder where my feet will lead me this time.'

Hana still felt the anger flaring deep within her. Her encounter with Kouga had been an accident. She had never meant to do that, she wasn't supposed to do that. She had screwed up her vision once more. Now, as she sat in the pitiful tree that had no more than six branches and was almost completely bald, she wondered what would happen. She rested her forehead on her fists and brought her knees up to her chest.

`How could I be so stupid as to interfere? This was supposed to be the turning point in their relationship! Now, they won't have a relationship because I totally fucked it up!' She mentally yelled at herself.

That was when her annoying youkai voice decided to make its entrance. `You know, you can just leave. You have your own business to attend to. Sesshoumaru isn't gonna mate with himself…although I'm pretty sure that if it were possible, he would have already done it.'

She scowled at the familiar scent that followed her.

“Go away, InuYasha. I already know I screwed up; you don't have to rub it in more.” She called out.

He was standing at the base of the tiny tree. “Look, Hana, you don't need to yell. This tree ain't even twenty feet high. Also, I just wanted to say…thanks…for getting rid of Kouga…you know, because of Mating Season and whatnot. So, what do you call what you just did…you know, that whole…waving-of-the-hand thing?” InuYasha took his seat at the base.

Hana smiled. She could still recall when she had met Sesshoumaru. He had been somewhat amazed by her powers, and she still gloats about being more powerful than he is. She gave her long speech on her powers and stuff, and by the time she finished, she felt much calmer.

Hana looked down to see InuYasha still sitting there. She hopped down and took her seat next to him.

“So,” She began. “How goes your struggles with Kagome?”

His ears twitched nervously. “It's all right, I suppose. She's in heat, so that makes it a bit harder.”

Hana scrunched her eyebrows together. She then realized what InuYasha had said.

“You baka! A girl doesn't go into heat when she gets her period! She goes into heat after her period…genius. I thought you were taught better than that.” She said as she smacked the back of his head.

He looked entirely offended. “Well, excuse me, but I've been trying to keep my mind off her. When I saw the blood, I knew she had her period, but I thought that that was it. Sheesh, so judgmental.”

She rolled her eyes. “I'm not being judgmental; I'm merely stating a fact.”

InuYasha rubbed the back of his head. “Yeah, a rather painful fact; let's just hope you don't have any more.”

“Let's make a deal: I'll only smack you if you say something stupid.” She said, holding out her hand for him to shake.

He pondered the proposal for a moment. “Well…I guess that could work. All right, deal.” He shook her hand firmly.

Hana turned her head away to hide an evil smirk. `Oh, this is going to be sweet. InuYasha, prepare to--'

Her thoughts were interrupted when another all too familiar scent filled her sensitive nose.

“Yes, Hana, it really does look like you are coming back as soon as possible.” A sarcastic voice said.

She swiveled her head to see the man she had been waiting a long time to see: Sesshoumaru.
