. “ What do you need Kagome? You look disturbed.” Kikyou asked concern. “ How does this sound to you: I am arranged, no forced to marry the murder of my best friend Reika Kouga in five weeks!” Kagome lashed out.
Kikyou made a disgusted face and stood up, “ That bastard Kouga!? The bastard should be better off burning in hell than to be alive hell, let alone rule a country!” Kikyou raged. “ Father told you to marry him? For what?”
“ Apparently to for an alliance and unite the kingdoms, blah, blah, blah.” Kagome rolled her eyes.
“ No, you know what he has done to his past wives in the past! I won’t sit back and watch my little sister get abused and raped by that monster! Come on, let’s go to father!” Kikyou yelled and grabbed Kagome’s wrist tightly and tried to drag her to her father.
“ Ow! Kikyou there’s no need to be rough! Besides, I already told Father that I’m going to marry him, even though I don’t want to.” Kagome said.
“ What! Kagome are you that crazy and reckless?! Your going to get killed!” Kikyou reacted.
“ What other choice do I have!? Being sent to Himeji as an exile!? Really, if I don’t marry him, my days are counted. Besides, I threatened him that if I die while I’m married to Kouga, I will put a curse on the family that my reincarnation has the power to break. ” Kagome yelled.
“ Are you really that capable of that threat?” Kikyou asked stunned. Kagome nodded, “ I always keep my word. I swear I‘ll go through it.”
Kikyou mused and pondered for a very long time until she spoke, “ I’m at a loss for words Kagome. You, facing these circumstances and vowing to keep your threat at all costs if you die… Kagome, I don’t agree with your decision, but I sense that you will come to a crossroad very soon. That crossroad will determine your destined fate. I’ll I can say is be careful Kagome in choosing that path and you have my blessings.”

Moments later, she arrived at the kitchen were Anaya was sweeping the floor.
“ Anaya!” Kagome exclaimed.
Anaya turned around and cheered, “ Kagome- sama!” Anaya went up to hug Kagome and she hugged back.
“ What happened? Why did you have such urgency to talk to your father?” Anaya said after the embrace.
“ Anaya, you need to sit down.” Kagome advised. Anaya did what she was told. She sat down on a wooden chair and she held the jug of water and a ceramic cup. “ Do you want some water?” Anaya asked generously asked. Kagome replied, “ No thank you.” Kagome replied. “ Alright.” Anaya replied and she poured herself a cup. “ So what’s wrong?” Anaya asked after she took a drink of her water and held her cup in her right hand.” “ Anaya,” Kagome started, “ I don’t know how will you react but, I am forced to marry Kouga, the murder of your older sister.”
“ WHAT!?” Anaya’s cup shattered in her hand and the pieces fell to the ground were it shattered into more little pieces. Her right hand was in a tight fist, crimson red blood oozed from her palm as the pieces of razor-sharp clay pierced her skin and it dripped to the ground, staining the other pieces of clay at the bottom.
“ Anaya your hand!” Kagome exclaimed. She ran to a cupboard and grabbed some cloth. “That doesn’t matter to me.” Anaya growled. Kagome was taken back. Anaya was trembling in pure hate and anger, her eyes had the most horrible look of malice and it was also dropping tears of anger; a side of her friend Kagome never saw. “ Let me see your hand.” Kagome calmly asked. Anaya reluctantly held out her hand. Her right palm was soaked in crimson red blood and pieces of clay were stuck into her hand. She started to clean her hand.
“ So your going to marry that son of a bitch?” Anaya hissed.
“ I have no other option.” Kagome replied.
“ What do you mean you have no other option! What were your options!?” Anaya demanded. She then hissed in pain. “ Anaya stay still.” Kagome warned as she removed a big piece of a clay shard from her palm. “ My options were to either marry him or be sent to Himeji as an exile of the country.” Anaya stayed silent. “ That bastard killed my sister Reika, overthrew my parents, killed them and replaced my parents with someone else to rule my kingdom and now he want’s to target you!?” Anaya yelled. “ Kagome I don’t know what to say but why? Why are you sacrificing yourself?”
Kagome, done wrapping her hand, replied, “ I do what I do. Besides, I vowed to myself that if I die while I’m with Kouga, I will put a curse on the family that only my reincarnation has the power to break.” Anaya thought for some more and said, “ All I could say is good luck and be cautious.”
“ I will.” Kagome smirked. She stood up and walked to the door that lead outside. “ Where are you going?” Anaya asked. “ To the western lands.” She replied sternly.
Kagome walked to the stables and went to a stall. A horse was there. It had the most beautiful shade of brown and blotches of white were splattered on its coat.
“ Hi Kazu!” Kagome smiled. Kazu snorted. “ Let’s go.” Kagome said. She entered the pin and grabbed a burlap sack in the corner and mounted him.
They rode out the palace unseen and into the deep forest.

Chapter 4:
There were two?
Kagome and her horse, Kazu, galloped through the dense, dark forest. “ Hold on Kazu! Let’s make a stop.” Kagome yelled. Kazu neighed and obliged. She dismounted, took the burlap sack, and went behind a bush filled with briars and roses. Five minutes later, Kagome walked out of behind the bush and she was not dressed in her elaborate and fancy kimono. Instead, she was in her miko robes and her hair was tied back in a white cloth ribbon. She mounted back on Kazu and yelled, “ Let’s go! Hyah!” Kazu neighed and galloped off.
After three hours, they made it to the border of the northern and western lands. The gates that lead through the border were filled with merchants, traders, villagers, and soldiers. Kagome reached into her sack and took out a plain brown cape with a hood. “ Let’s try to blend Kazu.” He snorted and continued to trot up the trail. When they made to the horde of people, they were blending in perfectly.
“ So far, so good.” Kagome whispered.
“ Hey, miko!” a guard yelled out to Kagome.
Kagome pulled slightly on the reins she had on Kazu and made a turn and proceeded to trot to the guard. “ Oh crap….” Kagome thought as she made it to the guard.
“ Yes guard what do you need?” Kagome asked, her hood over head and casting a shadow over her face. She altered her voice to make it a little high-pitched so know one would notice her.
“ What is your business here?” The guard asked curiously.
“ I’m here to visit a friend.” She replied.
The guard thought for a moment and finally said, “ Let me see your face.”
“ I really shouldn’t. My face has the most ugliest scar and I truly don’t want to ruin your day.” Kagome explained. “ Did he buy it?” Kagome thought.
“ Fine, you may pass.” The guard said, she sighed quietly, and she made it through the gates.
As Kagome and her horse trotted down the beautiful, countryside trail, Kagome thought to herself, " Even if I do try to escape, Kouga did suck out the powers of Reika, I'm sure he'll do the same thing with me. I'll be defenseless and if I try to fake my death, Kouga has a strange way to find out if a person is truely dead." and then she remembered what Kikyou told her, “ Crossroads that chooses my destined fate, huh?”
Four hours later, Kagome made it to the imperial city. She made it through the crowed streets filled with merchants yelling out claims about their merchandise, traders making deals with other traders, people cheering in amazement for the monkey that does tricks, men yelling out bets for an upcoming horse race, women gasping at the supposed fortune told by a fortune teller, and children running around and laughing up and down the streets.
After what seemed an hour, Kagome made it to her destination. It was a enormous and fancy palace. The outer walls were painted a rich, crimson red and a bright, golden yellow. The palace roofs were red too and some other buildings were golden yellow. She proceeded her way to the humongous gates. “ Who goes there?” A guard yelled out. Kagome removed her hood and revealed her face. “ I am Kagome of the northern lands. I’m here for a visit. May I enter?”
“ But of course princess!” The guard exclaimed and opened the gates. Kagome waited patiently but watched in amazement as the gates opened slowly but majestically, like if they were the gates to heaven. After they were opened, Kagome dismounted Kazu and said, “ Meet me at the tree like always okay?” Kazu neighed. “ Good, now go along.” Kagome smiled. Kazu neighed and galloped away.
Kagome walked through the beautiful courtyard and yelled, “ Sango where are you?” She got a response, “ Over here Kagome!” Kagome ran to the voice. She made it to a lake where at the banks of the lake, a young woman was sitting. She had beautiful, waist long hair the was tied into a high ponytail, bright chocolate brown eyes, and slightly tan skin. She wore a servant’s uniform which consisted of a plain white blouse, an ankle length brown skirt and sandals. The woman smiled and stood up, “ Hi, Kagome!” Kagome ran up and hugged her greeting, “ Hi, Sango! I’m sorry I couldn’t visit in a long time.” They broke the embrace and replied, “ Don’t be! I’m just glad that you came! It’s been awhile.” The two friends walked to the soft green grass and started talking and catching up on current events. After a few moments of chatting, they heard a voice, “ Hey guys!” Sango and Kagome turned around. A young man was standing there. He looked around like Sango’s and Kagome’s age. He had midnight black hair, royal indigo colored eyes, tan skin, and was wearing purple and black monk kimono. “ Hey Miroku!” Kagome exclaimed. “ Miroku what took you so long?” Sango asked. “ Sorry, the exorcism took longer than I thought.” Miroku said and then he flopped down on the grass. There was a moment of silence and then Kagome spoke up, “ Hey guys,” Kagome started. “ Yes what id it?” Sango asked, breaking her stare at the lake. “ I don’t know how you guys would react but, my father was forced me into marrying Kouga.” Sango glared, stood up and yelled, “ What do you mean marry him! He raped and killed our best friend! How could you, Kagome, marry the killer of Reika and the one responsible for the collapse of the eastern lands!” “ Sango, let’s not be hasty. It’s not like she had a choice.” “ Oh, so your on her side?!” Sango questioned. “ No! I’m not on either side. I just think that we should hear Kagome’s side of the story first and not jump to conclusions.” “ Alright!” Sango agreed. “ Well if Sango doesn’t interrupt, this is what happened.” Kagome explained what Kenta said about the consequence about not marry Kouga and being sent to Himeji as an exile. That part sent chills up and down Miroku’s and Sango’s spines. After she was done explaining, Sango and Miroku were deadly silent and there faces pure pale from the shock.
“ Kagome,” Sango started after a few minutes of being silent, “ I’m just confused and speechless…”
“ Kagome, I didn’t know that you were under those circumstances.” Miroku managed to utter out. “ Kagome I’m sorry. I didn’t know and I was way out of line!” Sango apologized. “ Sango, don’t beat yourself up!” Kagome explained. “ Kagome please be careful with that bastard!” Miroku said. “ Yeah! Kouga’s ruthless and he’s capable of everything for getting what he wants.” Sango warned. “ I know. I have to do this.” Kagome stated. “ Be careful Kagome.” Miroku said. They were silent for a moment until Kagome brought up something that she noticed when she entered the palace. “ Can I ask you a question? When I entered here, all the nobles and officials were wearing funeral kimonos, did someone die?”
Sango and Miroku were silent then Miroku asked, “ You were never told?” Kagome was puzzled, “ About what?” “ On this day eighteen years ago,” Sango started, “ was the day that the newborn prince, Inuyasha, was killed.”
“ What?”
“ It’s true,” Miroku said, “ Eighteen years ago, bandits attacked the palace and somehow, managed to kidnap Inuyasha and was believed to be dead but before that, Empress Izayoi managed to place a chain necklace with the seal of the palace as a pendant. After the attack, the palace was rebuilt and they built a small grave for him. That’s what my father told me.”
“My mother told me too.” Sango added.
“ Where’s they grave? I want to pay my respects.” Kagome asked. “ It’s over here.” Miroku said.
All three of them walked t the other side of the lake and there was a small grave marker. On the marker, it was engraved:
Inuyasha- pulled out of this world too soon.
Flowers laid there decorating the small grave. All three of them knelt down and started to pray. After a moment of silence, Kagome spoke up, “ Okay, well I should be going, it’s starting to get dark.” Kagome stood up and started to walk. “ Bye Sango and Miroku!” Kagome said. “ Bye! Good luck!” Both of them exclaimed.
As Kagome was nearing the gates, someone called out to her, “ Hey Kagome!” Kagome turned around. It was a young man. He had long, silver hair and golden eyes. He had a blue cresset moon marking on his forehead and magenta stripes on the sides of face. He wore a funeral kimono on.
“ Hi Sesshomaru.” Kagome greeted. Sesshomaru went up to her, “ Hello Kagome.” He responded. “ So what do you need?” Kagome asked. “ Oh, yes!” Sesshomaru started, “ Could you please give Kikyou this?” He pulled out the most beautiful bellflower Kagome had ever seen. Kagome was amazed, “ How did you know that Kikyou loves this flower?” “ It was a lucky guess.” Sesshomaru chuckled, a very light blush creeping on his face. Kagome smiled, ’Sure, I will.” “ Thank you Kagome!” Sesshomau said. She took the flower and started to leave.
“ Hmm…. Kikyou and Sesshomaru? Sounds lovely….” Kagome thought smiling. She made it out of the imperial city and started down the country road in the sunset.
