“ Hey guys,” Kagome started. “ Yes what id it?” Sango asked, breaking her stare at the lake. “ I don’t know how you guys would react but, my father was forced me into marrying Kouga.” Sango glared, stood up and yelled, “ What do you mean marry him! He raped and killed our best friend! How could you, Kagome, marry the killer of Reika and the one responsible for the collapse of the eastern lands!” “ Sango, let’s not be hasty. It’s not like she had a choice.” “ Oh, so your on her side?!” Sango questioned. “ No! I’m not on either side. I just think that we should hear Kagome’s side of the story first and not jump to conclusions.” “ Alright!” Sango agreed. “ Well if Sango doesn’t interrupt, this is what happened.” Kagome explained what Kenta said about the consequence about not marry Kouga and being sent to Himeji as an exile. That part sent chills up and down Miroku’s and Sango’s spines. After she was done explaining, Sango and Miroku were deadly silent and there faces pure pale from the shock.

“ Kagome,” Sango started after a few minutes of being silent, “ I’m just confused and speechless…”

“ Kagome, I didn’t know that you were under those circumstances.” Miroku managed to utter out. “ Kagome I’m sorry. I didn’t know and I was way out of line!” Sango apologized. “ Sango, don’t beat yourself up!” Kagome explained. “ Kagome please be careful with that bastard!” Miroku said. “ Yeah! Kouga’s ruthless and he’s capable of everything for getting what he wants.” Sango warned. “ I know. I have to do this.” Kagome stated. “ Be careful Kagome.” Miroku said. They were silent for a moment until Kagome brought up something that she noticed when she entered the palace. “ Can I ask you a question? When I entered here, all the nobles and officials were wearing funeral kimonos, did someone die?”

Sango and Miroku were silent then Miroku asked, “ You were never told?” Kagome was puzzled, “ About what?” “ On this day eighteen years ago,” Sango started, “ was the day that the newborn prince, Inuyasha, was killed.”

“ What?”

“ It’s true,” Miroku said, “ Eighteen years ago, bandits attacked the palace and somehow, managed to kidnap Inuyasha and was believed to be dead but before that, Empress Izayoi managed to place a chain necklace with the seal of the palace as a pendant. After the attack, the palace was rebuilt and they built a small grave for him. That’s what my father told me.”

“My mother told me too.” Sango added.

“ Where’s they grave? I want to pay my respects.” Kagome asked. “ It’s over here.” Miroku said.

All three of them walked t the other side of the lake and there was a small grave marker. On the marker, it was engraved:

Inuyasha- pulled out of this world too soon.

Flowers laid there decorating the small grave. All three of them knelt down and started to pray. After a moment of silence, Kagome spoke up, “ Okay, well I should be going, it’s starting to get dark.” Kagome stood up and started to walk. “ Bye Sango and Miroku!” Kagome said. “ Bye! Good luck!” Both of them exclaimed.

As Kagome was nearing the gates, someone called out to her, “ Hey Kagome!” Kagome turned around. It was a young man. He had long, silver hair and golden eyes. He had a blue cresset moon marking on his forehead and magenta stripes on the sides of face. He wore a funeral kimono on.

“ Hi Sesshomaru.” Kagome greeted. Sesshomaru went up to her, “ Hello Kagome.” He responded. “ So what do you need?” Kagome asked. “ Oh, yes!” Sesshomaru started, “ Could you please give Kikyou this?” He pulled out the most beautiful bellflower Kagome had ever seen. Kagome was amazed, “ How did you know that Kikyou loves this flower?” “ It was a lucky guess.” Sesshomaru chuckled, a very light blush creeping on his face. Kagome smiled, ’Sure, I will.” “ Thank you Kagome!” Sesshomau said. She took the flower and started to leave.

“ Hmm…. Kikyou and Sesshomaru? Sounds lovely….” Kagome thought smiling. She made it out of the imperial city and started down the country road in the sunset.

Chapter 5:
Saved

Kagome kept walking, the sun had already set and the crescent moon illuminated the night sky. “ Hmm…” Kagome turned around and saw only a stray cat. She sighed and kept walking up the moonlit trail. She heard the noise again. Kagome glared and turned around, “ Who’s there!?” Kagome yelled.

“ That would be me….”

“ What? Who-- Ahh!” Kagome screamed as a strong hand covered her mouth and another hand had a strong, painful grip on her wrists. She was pulled out of the trail and behind a bush. The mysterious person had her dangling in mid- air. Kagome was squirming and wiggling to be set free, saying some non- understandable things trough his mouth and finally, the man uncovered her mouth.

Kagome gasped for air and yelled in anger, “ WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! I--” “ Shut the hell up wench!” The man yelled. Kagome went silent. He spoke, “ I would let you go if, you hand me you money.” Kagome yelled, “ I have no money bastard so let me go!” She was still in the bandits grip. “ Liar!” The bandit yelled, “ You have money and you will give it to me now!” The bandit grabbed a suffocating hold of her neck and held her up. Kagome started gasping for air as her vision started to blur. “ You will give me your money,” The bandit pulled out a silver dagger. The blade gleamed in the moonlight as it was pointed to her chest. “ Die wench!” The dagger was brought to her chest in full force. Kagome closed her eyes and waited for the dagger to tab her, but instead, the point of the blade only poked her. She opened her eyes and she heard a yell.

“ Let go of her bastard!” another mysterious man had a hold of the bandit’s hand that held the dagger. “ Insolent brat!” The bandit yelled as he let go of Kagome’s neck, threw Kagome to the floor like some kind of old rag, and he started to punch the mysterious man. Kagome started coughing and she looked up. Her hero was simply blocking the bandit’s every move without breaking a sweat. She watched in amazement as he grabbed the bandit’s neck and threw slammed him into a tree.

“ Don’t you ever touch her again.” The man threatened. The bandit shook his head desperately and he ran away in horror and fright. The man started to walk towards Kagome and helped her stand. “ Are you alright?” he asked. Kagome shook her head and looked up to see her hero’s face.

He was a young man. He had brilliant, dark violet eyes, long, midnight black hair, and tan skin. He wore simple villager clothing and some kind of rosary necklace around his neck. Kagome managed to mutter, “ Yes.” “ Good.” he answered. Then they heard a horse’s neigh. Kagome gasped, “ Kazu!” The man looked puzzled, “ Kazu?” Kagome ran into the shadow and came back out with her horse. “ Yes he is my horse.” There was a moment of silence until Kagome said, “ Well, I should get going.”

“ No, wait!” The man exclaimed before Kagome disappeared into the shadows. “ Yes, what is it?”

“ Listen, the trail this time of night is infested with bandits, why not come back to my village. My grandmother and I have space for a visitor.”

“ And what makes you think that I’ll come with you?” Kagome huffed.

“ This.” The man threw a rock into another bush and it started to rustle and something ran out into another direction. “ See, loads of bandits will stalk you at this time.”

“ You’re worried about me?”

“ I’m- I’m not! I just don’t want you to get hurt.”

Kagome smiled and answered, “ Alright.” The man took Kazu’s reins and he, Kagome, and her horse started walking towards the little village. As they entered the village, Kagome asked, “ What’s your name?” The young man answered, “ My name is Taisho.”
