He gasped as he saw Kagome's captor.

The person only at least 20 feet away, that had hurt his friends and was threatening Kagomes' life….looked exactly like himself.

Inuyashas' eyes quivered. “Who the hell are you” he yelled, never letting his Tetsaiga lower.

The demon Inuyasha laughed; laughed with a cold spike in his voice, that made Kagome shiver in fear. The demon kicked Kagome to the ground, a painful “oomph” following.

“Kagome!” no response came from the priestess on the ground...

“KAGOME!”

Too Late?

Chapter 3

Inuyasha breaths came out in short huffs and grunts, his anger building every second, his blood boiling at the sight of Kagomes' small frame knocked to the ground. Was she conscious? Her face was pained, wracked with fear. It looked frozen this way. She didn't seem to be moving, but her heaving chest gave sign that she was alive. Inuyasha stared down the demon that looked exactly like himself. He looked identical to him down to the clothes he wore and the sword at his side.

His impersonator didn't draw his sword, which he thought was odd. But then remembering, His sword can't be identical to Tetsaiga, so it's probably useless. The only difference between him and this doppelganger was his eyes; they were much darker and had an evil tint in them. The demon stood there laughing his corrupt laugh; so cold and heartless even Inuyasha couldn't help but shiver. They did share the same voice too. Was Inuyashas' voice possible of emitting a laugh so cynical and demonic?

Inuyasha tried to seem unfazed by the doppelgangers maniacal laughter, but it must have shown on his face. His anger built up again. “What do you want with Kagome?” he shouted, furious at this point.

Somewhere behind him, Inuyasha heard movement, and soon enough Sango and Miroku caught up. They all stood, armed ready to take this imposter down.

The demon smiled, “At first I wanted the priestess' power for my self”, he mused. “But now I think I have other plans in store for my precious Kagome.”

Inuyasha jumped up, “Get out away from Kagome you creep” Inuyasha brought the blade down right where the demon should have been. “What the-” The demon had dodged his attack and had grabbed Kagome in the process. Inuyasha looked up to see the demon over to his left, about 15 feet or so, now holding Kagome. Very quickly he dropped her, not gently at all. Inuyasha could hear the impact of her hitting the ground. “How dare you do that to Kagome!” he shouted ready to lift his blade once again for an attack.

“If you come any closer, I will kill Kagome” The demon said quite plainly. It was so strange hearing his own voice say that. Of course it wasn't Inuyasha saying it, but he had the same voice. It was infuriating, hearing the voice threaten Kagomes' life. Inuyasha let out several grunts of anger and a look of extreme hatred passed over his face, but gradually he lowered his sword.

Sango, Shippou, and Miroku stood motionless, not daring to enter the conflict. Knowing they were to slow to be of any help, and too petrified with Kagomes' life hanging in the balance.

Everything seemed to be going the demons way. It smirked and slowly lifted Kagome from the ground. Inuyasha growled menacingly. The demon stopped for a moment.
Everyone stood still, powerless to do otherwise. They could all see the gears turning in his head, thinking, plotting, scheming, something evil to be sure.

A satisfied look crossed over his face. Slowly he whispered words in her ear, careful not mess them up, saying them with elegance and importance. Suddenly Kagomes' eyes flickered open, and the demon set her down on her feet.

“Kagome! Are you alright?”
“Kagome! Did he hurt you?”
“Are you ok? What Happened?”

Miroku, Shippou and Sango called out to her, relieved to see her at least standing. Strangely enough she paid no heed to their calls, as if she had not even heard them.

“Kagome, get over here now!” Inuyasha yelled, but seeming content she was alright as well.

The demon laughed. “She cannot hear you, fools”

“What? Kagome come here!” Inuyasha shouted, louder, and with hint of worry.

“Yes, Kagome come back!”
“Kagome come on! Get over here”
“Kagome please hurry!”

All her friends beckoned out to her, but she no longer heard their voices. She lacked the soul to.

“What have you done to Kagome you jerk” Inuyasha screamed, furious with Kagomes' lack of apparent hearing skills.

“Her spirit has been stricken from her body, she is now my servant.” He stated, loud enough so they all could hear it. Inuyasha looked at Kagomes' face. Her face held no emotions, no fear, or happiness, her eyes were dim, and slightly grayed, her cheerful smile was lost, the happy eyes he had seen so clearly before had disappeared, the look that she possessed earlier had returned…she looked once again…lonely.

“Grr, that's a lie!” Inuyasha said back, refusing to believe that Kagome was no longer….no longer… he couldn't even finish the thought.

“But its true, Kagomes' body is now completely under my control. Her pesky soul was to stubborn to leave willingly, so…its gone now.” He said, his smile growing ever bigger.
“Oh but let me tell you Inuyasha,” he continued. “While I was busy disposing of her soul, I did happen to see some of her most personal feelings floating by.” He said as if talking about the weather. “Inuyasha I did not know she felt so deeply about you. In fact she was going to tell you her feelings earlier today.”

A look of shock passed through Inuyashas' eyes, then one of sorrow.

The demon continued on, Inuyasha too shocked to say anything.

“She loved you, Inuyasha. And imagine how she felt having her soul torn from herself, before she ever got to hear about your feelings for her. Now as her spirit wanders in darkness, she probably thinks that you hate her, I bet the pain for her heart is unbearable beyond measure.” The demon cackled, pleased with his words and how they affected the now very gloom-stricken Inuyasha.

Inuyasha eyes were now so close to bursting he couldn't help letting two tears roll down his cheeks. With a quick look up, he jumped up into the air, and with the most terrifying shriek, came down on the demon. The Tetsaiga smashed into the ground, creating a wave of energy so large it took out the demon and half the forest behind them in a blue wave of Light.

Kagome lay on the ground now, bruised and battered, but nothing looked damaged.

“Kagome!” They all yelled, rushing to her side, as fast as they could, the strong wind of the night returned. Her hair, moved below her as the wind moved its way through her locks. The group huddled around her, all afraid of what to do next.

The silence lingered in the small circle, until Shippou spoke up. “Has her soul really left her body?” Inuyasha took Kagome into his arms, cradling her and crying softly into her ebony hair. “Kagome, I'm sorry. I never did tell you but I do; I love you, Kagome. Please you must forgive me…I was afraid.” Inuyasha continued. No one attempted to stop him, or tease; in fact they hoped he'd keep going. “I was afraid you'd reject me and now…” He stuttered. He began to cry again. “Now it's too late.” Inuyashas' muffled cries were all that were heard. The wind blew softly now, the others shedding tears, but silently. Time seemed to stop. Inuyasha did not attempt to stifle his cries.

A low muffle was heard. Everyone besides Inuyasha looked between themselves, but they didn't make the noise. They heard it again through Inuyashas' soft sobs. Everyone turned to Kagome; Inuyasha lifted his head and tried to silence himself to listen. Kagomes lips moved. Everyone gasped. “Kagome, is that you? Are you ok?” Shippou cried, finding his way to her shoulder, and trying to wake her. Her eyes slowly opened.
“Kagome” Inuyasha whispered softly, a smile as bright as the sun on his face.

“Are you ok?” Kagome stirred from the question, saying, “I think so, but I have one question.” “Sure, anything!” Inuyasha said, feeling happy once again. Kagome looked to all of them, her voice soft and innocent but singed with fear. “Who are you?”
