Chapter 2 A Mother’s Love

“Iron reaver soul stealer!” He yelled as a cut down the badger demon that wouldn’t allow him to pass. “That’ll teach ya. No one stands in my way.” His razor sharp claw had no problem slicing through the other demons flesh.

He was a half dog demon with silver hair that hung past his waist. He had triangular shaped, silver colored dog ears on the top of his head and molten gold eyes. This boy was in his early twenties and had fangs instead of regular human teeth. His clothes were past down to him by his father before he died. They were scarlet red. He called it the robe of the fire rat. These garments were no normal garments. They were like armor for him. It doesn’t completely protect him, but it protects him from fire and most swords, spears or arrows. This Hanyou’s name was Inuyasha.

He ran through the tree of the forest. Inuyasha didn’t know where he was going, or why for that matter. It just felt like he should be going this way for some reason unknown to him. The wind blew through his silky hair. Running always seemed to calm him and when he was calm, he thought. This time, he thought of his mother.

Inuyasha’s mother was a beautiful woman. She had long night black hair. Her bangs parted in the center. Her skin was beautiful and smooth. A human that mated Inuyasha’s father, a great dog demon lord of the western lands. Her name was Izayoi. When she got pregnant with Inuyasha, all the humans in her town shunned her. None of them wanted a demon lover to live in their town. Lord Inu no Taisho, Inuyasha’s father, took Izayoi to a cabin in the forest, far enough away from the towns, to keep her protected.

Then Inuyasha thought of the stories his mother told him about the day his father died. Inuyasha didn’t have any memories of his father because he was so young when he died.

After Inuyasha was born, the lord of the eastern land attacked Inu no Taisho and his family’s home because he wanted Izayoi for himself. When she refused, he became furious. He took Inuyasha from her arms and threatened to kill the half breed if she didn’t become his wife. Izayoi had to go with him if she wanted to save her beloved son. She couldn’t forgive herself if anything happened to him.

By the time Inu no Taisho get there, it was too late. The eastern lord had taken his mate and son. This infuriated and terrified him. ‘What if he hurt them? If I had only been here none of this would have happened.’ He thought as he started tracking where his mates scent went. ‘I will kill that bastard for taking them!’

Once he found the castle, he looked for the chambers his family was being held captive in. He slipped into the room without even being seen. “Lord Inu no Taisho, my love! You came for us!” Izayoi cried.

“Of course sweetheart. I would never let anything happen to you. Are you and Inuyasha alright?” He asked.

“Yes. We are fine. What about you? Are you hurt?” As she said this, she realized that he had a huge gaping wound in his chest. “Oh my kami! Love you’re badly wounded!”

Inu no Taisho ignored the pain. He had to get his family out of danger. “Here. Wear these.” He said as he placed the robes of the fire rat over Izayoi and his son. “They should keep you pretty well protected.”

Izayoi put the robes on as she was told. “Good. Now, we need to get you two out of here before the guards notice that I’m here.” Inu no Taisho said as he took Izayoi onto his back to fly out of the towers window. “Hold on tight my darling.” As he said this he jumped out of the tower into the night sky, gracefully gliding through the air.

Izayoi thought they were home free when suddenly arrows were being shot at them. Inu no Taisho dodged them as best he could but there were too many of them to avoid them all. He was then shot in his lower side with an arrow. This made him wince in pain. He knew he wouldn’t be able to protect his family from the air, so he dropped down to continue their escape on land.
As they lowered, a swarm of guards with the lord of the eastern lands came running towards them. “Izayoi, listen to me. I need you to take Inuyasha and run. I’ll hold them off.” He told his love.

“No! No I won’t leave you!” She protested.

“You have to! To protect our son.” He said sadly, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to see his son grow up. “Go into the western lands and find my eldest son, Sesshomaru. Tell him what has happened and that he find you a safe place to stay.”

“Yes my love. Will you come find us later?” As she asked this, she saw in his eyes that he knew he would not be returning to her and their son. Tears welled up in her eyes as she realized what was going to happen. She hugged her mate tightly as she knew it would be the last time. He leaned down and kissed her lips with a passion that no one could deny. They reluctantly parted, for they knew they were running out of time.

“I love you Izayoi. Tell Inuyasha I loved him too.” The great dog demon told her.

“I will my love. I will never forget you and I will tell Inuyasha all about you so your memory will stay alive. I love you too.” Izayoi replied. Showing their love for each other for the last time.

“Thank you. Now, you must go.” He told her. “Take good care of Inuyasha.”

“I will.” She said before she started to run towards the nearby forest.

‘Never forget me Izayoi. Raise Inuyasha to show love and compassion towards others weaker than he.’ Inu no Taisho thought as he unsheathed his sword to fight the guards that tried to take his family from him. “Stop. You will not pass.” He stated coldly.

“Who’s going to stop us? You? I would like to see you try! I will have Izayoi as my wife and no one will keep her from me!” Yelled the eastern lord. “And I will rid the world of that horrid half breed that you cursed Izayoi with!”

That statement snapped Inu no Taisho’s control. He sheathed his sword and transformed into his true dog demon form. His eyes turned bright red with tiny black pupils. His muzzle grew longer and his skin turned snow white as the fur began to reach the surface. He was then a huge dog demon with snow white fur. He had the same shoulder armor he wore on a daily basis. The fur on his back and neck stood on end as his furry grew. When the transformation was complete, he howled to scare the troops.

A storm started to brew as the dog demon transformed. The soldiers watched as the transformation ensued. The howl echoed through the lands. They looked shocked and scared. The eastern lord had the same look on his face, but he had to keep his men focused to destroy the demon before them. “Men, we have to destroy that monstrous demon to protect our lands!” He said as he drew his sword. “Attack!” When given the order, the men had to do as they were told. They also drew their swords, as others drew spears and archers prepared their arrows.

The swordsmen charged at the great dog demon but were stopped by a giant paw. Inu no Taisho swept a paw across the field and took out the first three rows of the eastern lords guards. ‘Only four more rows to go.’ Inu no Taisho thought. Just then, he was shot by multiple arrows into his already injured side. He growled from the pain. He stomped hard on the ground crushing the earth and shaking it. Many of the men fell. Inu no Taisho thrashed and fight. Clawing some, crushing some with his huge paws, and biting some with his sharp teeth. Though he had taking a lot of wounds from their swords, spears and arrows, he was the one that was going to be victorious.

Just then, a bolt of lightning struck the ground around the battle field. This created a wild fire that spread at an extraordinary rate. Some of the soldiers tried to run from the fire but Inu no Taisho jumped in front of them to block their path. ‘This is a perfect way to make sure none of them escape and go after Izayoi and Inuyasha.’ The fire engulfed them all. Including Inu no Taisho.

Izayoi stood in the forest as this battle when on. When she saw the fire start, she knew what Inu no Taisho would be thinking. She ran in the opposite direction into the forest in the direction of the west with tears pouring down her face. The only thing keeping her going was the infant hanyou in her arms. She found a cave a long ways away from the awful battle she would never forget. She looked down at the baby in her arms and she began crying for her lost love.

Her tears dropped onto the hanyou’s face and woke him from his peaceful sleep. His golden eyes fluttered open to see his loving mother crying. Inuyasha furrowed his brow. He reached for her face to try and hug her. Izayoi saw his attempt and leaned down to let him hug her. She snuggled him close to her. He was pleased by this and it seemed to make his mother feel better so he decided to return to his slumber.

Inuyasha ran through the forest still lost in his own thoughts. He had been running for who knows how long but he didn’t care. He didn’t know where he was going anyways. Then, he began to think of when his mother had gotten sick and how much it broke his heart to see her in pain.

Flashback

“Mommy! Are you okay?” A young Inuyasha exclaimed as he saw his mother fall to her knees coughing. She had had these coughing fits for a while now but it scared Inuyasha every time. “Mommy, you need to lie down and rest! You’re not well!”

“Thank you sweetie, but I’m alright.” She told him with a smile. “Now, help mommy up so we can walk back to the house.” She instructed. They had gone for a short walk through the forest just to try and get out of the house for a bit. With Inuyasha’s mom being sick, they rarely got out of their cabin.

“Okay mommy!” Inuyasha said happily as he skipped alongside his mother. They walked for only a few minutes before she was having another coughing fit. Inuyasha rushed to help her regain her balance before she fell. Inuyasha knew the drill by now. He just needed to help her walk and keep her balance until they were back at the cabin.

When they finally reached their secluded and peaceful home they had lived in all these years, Inuyasha’s mother went straight to bed to rest. She really hadn’t been feeling well this day and she knew that would be her last walk with her son. She cherished every moment she had with him ever since his father had died. Inuyasha was all she had left of him.

“Inuyasha, come here my son.” She called.

“Yes mother?” Inuyasha asked.

“Inuyasha, I will be leaving you and this earth soon. I want you not to be afraid, but have courage. I know that you will become a handsome, loving man that will help and protect those who cannot. I know that most people that you have met have not been kind to you, but it is my wish that you be the bigger person and forgive them for their mistakes. Now, I know you are young, but you are a strong half demon that can take care of himself. Even so, I know that one day, you will find a young woman to love and care for you as much as you love and care for her and you will be in love until the day you both die.” Izayoi held back her tears as she told her son all this information that a child shouldn’t have to hear from their mother yet. “Inuyasha, I love you with all my heart, so please don’t be upset when I pass. I will always be with you in your heart and mind.”

She could see the tears filling Inuyasha’s golden eyes which made them cloudy. She hated seeing her son unhappy. She pulled him close to her chest as he sobbed to her of his pained heart. “Sshhh… It will all be alright my baby.”

A few days later, Izayoi passed away. Inuyasha held a strong face that day. Never shedding a tear. His mother wanted him to stay strong and that’s what he would do. She didn’t have friends or family that accepted her so Inuyasha was the only one at her funeral. When he buried her, he left the cabin he had lived in with her. There were too many painful memories there. He wandered for as long as he can remember, not having one place he called home since that cabin.

End Flashback

‘Why do I always bring back those painful memories?’ He thought. He then noticed how late it was and that it was about to storm. “Damn, I didn’t realize how long I was zoned out. I need to find a place to stay for the night.”

As he ran, he searched for somewhere he could set up camp. But he was too late. It was a heavy rain that drenched him within a few minutes of running in it. A small light from a good distance caught Inuyasha’s eye. ‘Is that a camp fire? Who would be sleeping out here on a night like tonight?’ He questioned. His curiosity got the best of him, so he ran towards it but just enough that he could see the fire. He saw a figure but couldn’t make out who it was. ‘This damn rain I wanna see who’s in there!’ He complained, but he stayed a good distance away in case it was someone dangerous.
