Chapter 5 Sibling Rivalries

Inuyasha just glared at the man now standing in front of him. He would have to protect Kagome that was now standing behind him. This demon wasn’t just any demon. He was Inuyasha’s elder brother, Sesshomaru. “Hello? Did you lose your hearing? What the hell are you doing here?” Inuyasha asked growling from irritation.

Kagome analyzed the tall man standing before them. He had silver hair that was even longer than Inuyasha’s. His cheeks were lined with two parallel, red stripes pointing towards his nose. His forehead bore a blue crescent moon. He was a dog demon like Inuyasha was, but he was a full dog demon. This dog demon had fur on his right shoulder, falling out into what looked to Kagome like a tail. His fur was snow white and very fluffy. The ears on the side of his head were pointy and his eyes were also golden, but not a molten gold like Inuyasha’s. These eyes were ice cold. They showed little if any emotion. His clothing was white with red and blue accents. The colors on his face matched the colors on his kimono perfectly. She wondered why so much about this man reminded her of Inuyasha.

“Little brother. Why do you show such disrespect for our family. Choosing to a human to spend your time with. You should spend more time training than wasting your time on that worthless creature.” Sesshomaru stated.

Inuyasha growled at his words. First of all, he was strong enough to defeat Sesshomaru without more training and secondly, Kagome was not worthless. “You have no idea what you’re talking about!” He growled.

‘Did I hear him right? Inuyasha is his little brother? Well I guess they do look alike, but not totally. Wait! Who was he calling worthless?’ Kagome thought. She clenched her fist around her bow. ‘I’ll show him.’ She pulled her bow up as she placed and arrow above her finger. She shot it and it hit right next to the demon’s head. Sesshomaru did not look amused. “Next time, I won’t miss.” She said.

Sesshomaru felt the woman’s miko powers emanating from her body. “So you’re a miko priestess, woman. Inuyasha, you know that she could purify you anytime she wanted, and yet, you still stay with her.” Sesshomaru stated to Inuyasha. “It dishonors our family name that you chose to be around this human, or should I say miko.” He glared at Kagome.

Kagome just glared back. ‘Who does he think he is? He doesn’t even know me!’ She thought as she tried to figure out what his problem was. Inuyasha felt Kagome’s powers start to spark from behind him. Without turning away from Sesshomaru to face her, he slowly rubbed her arm with one of his hands as if trying to tell her, ‘Calm down. It’s ok.’ Kagome took a deep breath to calm herself. Her powers subsided once again and Inuyasha relaxed.

Inuyasha knew his brother way to well. He was just trying to get Kagome to lose control of her powers while Inuyasha was standing so close. “Sesshomaru, why did you come here? What is your purpose?” Inuyasha sighed getting frustrated. He just wanted his brother to leave him alone. Sesshomaru seem to drop by and check on Inuyasha every once in a while, but Inuyasha didn’t know why. Sesshomaru hated him. He was ashamed that there was a half breed to disgrace ‘the family name’, as Sesshomaru would always say. Inuyasha never really had a family to be around, since his mom and dad died when he was very young. Inuyasha would never tell Sesshomaru this, but he wished he could have a relationship with his brother and not have to fight every time they met. Inuyasha’s thoughts were shortened when he heard Sesshomaru speak.

“Neither of you are worth my time.” He said as he turned to walk away with that same hateful expression on his face.
“Don’t you walk away from me, you bastard!” Inuyasha yelled in his direction. He was kind of happy Sesshomaru didn’t want to start any trouble. He didn’t want the possibility that Kagome get hurt in the fight. Then again, he hated seeing his brother leave. Every time it hurt Inuyasha a little more. When Sesshomaru walked away from Inuyasha like he had no emotions towards him, except hatred that is.

“This won’t be the last time we meet Inuyasha. Don’t you worry.” Sesshomaru said. Even though Inuyasha knew that was Sesshomaru’s deepest wish, he also knew it wouldn’t be the last time.

Kagome just stared as Sesshomaru took off into the air to leave the two alone once again. She looked back to Inuyasha. She saw a sadness in his eyes that broke her heart. She had never seen such hurt in anyone’s eyes. Kagome just wanted to pull him close to her and take all the pain away from him.

“Inuyasha, are you alright?” She whispered softly. She reached up to touch his shoulder. When she touched it, Inuyasha pulled away.

“Yeah. I’m fine.” He said emotionlessly.

Kagome was shocked and hurt. She just wanted to help. “I’m sorry Kagome. I’m just not ready to talk about it.” Inuyasha told her, sadness overwhelming him. “Please don’t be mad at me.” He pleaded.

Kagome knew Inuyasha was sorry when he told her this. She could hear his honesty on his voice. She walked over to the hanyou and hugged his chest. “I know you’re sorry. It’s okay Inuyasha.” She said and stepped back from him.

Inuyasha was glad that she was trying to be understanding. He knew he would have to tell her about his past eventually, but he just wasn’t ready to talk about it quite yet.

“Inuyasha? Did you hear me?” Kagome asked Inuyasha. Inuyasha blinked back into reality.

“Uhh… No sorry. What did you say?” He apologized. Kagome just smiled and repeated what she had said earlier.

“I said that I think I should get going. I have a long road to the next town.” She said kind of sadly.

Inuyasha didn’t want her to go and leave him. He hadn’t really had anywhere to go when he found her. Then the idea came to him. ‘I’ll just go with her! At least until she tells me to leave her alone.’ He thought.

Inuyasha watched as the woman he loved gathered her things. “Hey Kagome. What would you say if I wanted to accompany you for a while on your journey?” He asked her.

As he asked this, Kagome’s face lit up. “Of course you can come with me Inuyasha! I mean, if you want to.” She said happily. She loved the idea of having company but especially with this man that she has become so fond of.
