6. Revelations.
Kirara went towards the well and Kagome saw as they approached it. However, instead of landing safely next to the well, the demon cat suddenly flew high up into the starlit sky and flew towards a different direction.
Kagome then asked, “What's going on?”
InuYasha then wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her towards his torso. The free fall sensation returned the moment he did that.
He whispered to her ear practically touching it with his lips, “We are going somewhere else.”
Chills ran down her spine compounding to her earlier reaction.
She swallowed when his hands suddenly rested on her bare thighs. He clawed his fingers and scraped their way to her inner thighs and towards her crotch.
Her eyes widened and with shortened breath she felt how his right hand went under her yellow mini-dress and right inside her underwear to touch her labia.
By now she was trembling, her breathing was erratic and she closed her eyes in shock and pleasure.
He could feel the moisture there. His other hand trailed upwards and stroked her abs, ribs and then her breast. Reliving the other night, his other finger emulated the movements he saw her make when she masturbated al fresco. He touched her pearl with the lubricated tip of his clawed finger.
Kagome was confused, elated, thrilled, and scared. She didn't know what to think but she sure wasn't going to stop him. Granted, they were flying exposed to the elements and on Kirara while he was touching her like that. But she was in heaven. She would not stop him.
His left hand continued its way up as he could sense her shortness of breath. He brought his hand onto her neck and then to her face. He made her head turn towards him. He looked down at her with smoldering golden eyes.
Still trembling she watched his handsome face as he lowered his lips for their first kiss since what happened in the Castle in the mirror. His other hand continued stroking her intimate jewel.
InuYasha opened his mouth to softly lick her lips. Kagome felt his tongue and willingly granted him access. Their first taste of each other was soft, warm, salty and erotic. He opened his mouth wider to cover her delectable mouth.
Kirara's flight began its descent and they arrived near a pond. Once they reached the ground their kiss and intimate contact ended. Dizzy with arousal mixed with disappointment, Kagome looked at the site which had been the reason for why he stopped his ministrations.
She saw a cabin. It looked like it had been built some years ago. InuYasha got off first and helped her down. Still shook up, Kagome walked towards the cabin and heard InuYasha say, “Thanks my friend. Please come back in seven days.”
Kirara growled back affectionately and flew away.
Kagome looked at him and said, “Seven days?”
He looked at her and said, “I'll explain everything. Let's go inside.”
He opened the door and let her in closing the door behind them.
It was dark inside but she could tell that it had been lived in for it did not feel dusty or damp.
InuYasha walked towards the wall opposite the door and towards the left. She saw him start a fire as he lit up some branches. He blew the ambers making sure that they set in. Kagome realized that the room had a wall chimney. That was something that was not done in feudal Japan.
She asked, “Did you build this cabin?
He looked to the side towards her direction but not quite looking at her and said, “Yes.”
The room started to light up and she could see that there was furniture around like in modern times. It wasn't at all like the barren homes of feudal Japan. She looked around and could see the influence of her home in the cabin. The built furniture was draped with the softest fur on a couch and arm chair. There was even a double bed in the far right corner and a dining table with chairs.
InuYasha then stood and turned to Kagome. He said, “I began building this cabin when we met.”
Kagome was noticing the furniture when he said that and turned to look at him.
“I started building it not understanding why.” He continued.
She observed him as he related his tale.
“I was compelled to build it. Every time I had a moment to myself I came back here and continued working on it in secret.” He paused.
“In time I realized that everything was being done according to what I had learnt from the homes in your time. I wondered why I was so obsessed about making sure that everything that involved this place had to be according to that. Then I realized that I was building this house for you.” He looked at her and she returned his gaze.
She was immobile and astounded. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
“Everything, every log, every corner, every piece of furniture was made thinking about you.” He said watching her azure eyes as they reflected the growing fire behind him.
“Unknowingly, I had chosen you for my mate.”
She could feel how her fingers became numb when she heard this.
“When I discovered the reason why I was building this house, I still continued with my project. I continued with it even when I had decided to be with Kikyo to protect her.” He said in a serious tone.
Kagome wondered, Why do I suddenly feel so cold?
He looked at her and noticed that she was pale like a sheet.
She could not believe what she was hearing. She managed to say in a whisper, “It's beautiful.”
He smiled and a laugh choked out of him as pride and happiness surfaced all at once. Those words meant the world to him.
She then said, “Although I cannot be your mate, thank you so much. I am honored and I am….” Tears started flowing when she continued, “I am thrilled to know that you had chosen me for your mate after all. This,” she gestured the entire cabin, “is irrefutable proof of that.”
He looked down and said in the softest and clearest voice she's ever heard emitted from him, “That's the thing Kagome, you can be my mate.”
She looked at him and he raised his gaze to meet hers once again.
She said, “I don't understand. You are promised to Kikyo. There is no way that we can be mates.”
He said, “I talked to Kikyo last night.”
Kagome felt paralyzed when she heard this.
He turned and reached for a clay vase, he opened it and poured water into a pot. He hung the pot to a hook above the chimney's fire and then returned the clay vase to its place. He stood and walked towards Kagome. Looking at her he picked up her back pack from the floor, opened it and then looked inside to pull two ramen noodle packets. He closed her back pack and looked at her once again. He said, “Sit next to me by the fire and I'll tell you all about it.”
She could not move. They stood still just looking at each other. His eyes were clear and calm; hers were questioning and troubled. He took the initiative to reach for her left hand with his right one. He guided her back to the hearth where they both kneeled to sit. He set aside the ramen packages and proceeded to relate his tale as they waited for the water to boil.
He saw Kikyo waiting near the Gingoku tree. She turned to see him.
As she approached him she said, “There is a spell on you.”
He raised his eyebrows and said nothing.
“It is strong and unbreakable.” She said.
Kikyo noticed that he was observing her quietly.
She decided to ignore what she sensed and said, “I wanted to tell you about the spell that I discovered to convert you into a human.”
Startled he looked up to her and asked, “Convert me into a human?”
She said, “Yes.”
He mulled over her words and said, “I do not wish to be all human nor do I wish to be all demon anymore. I wish to be just as I am.”
She paused and said, “But this was our plan before Onigumo's interference.”
He then looked at her and said, “That was then. Things are different now.”
He did not know where his assertiveness came from. All he knew was that he was not going to allow her or anyone to transform him.
“InuYasha, did you not promise me that you would be with me to protect me?” She asked.
He answered, “Exactly and I cannot do so if I am a mere human.”
Then she said, “Understand that as a Miko I cannot be with a demon or a half demon. I destroy them.”
He observed her in her calm mystic state and replied. “I will be with you and protect you as I am, as I have always been.”
One of her soul catchers flew to her hand and she caressed it saying, “I'm afraid that's not possible.”
She noticed his resolve and said, “InuYasha, you had agreed to turn human then because you loved me. Why is it different now?”
InuYasha said, “I have learnt to accept myself as I am.”
She turned to him and asked, “What's happened? Something in you is different.”
He said, “Keh! Since we're having this conversation, I doubt that you would understand.”
She released her soul catcher and said, “We won't know that until you tell me.” She countered.
Unconvinced he told her about it. “Tonight I have discovered that I am loved unconditionally no matter what I do, no matter who I'm with and no matter what happens in my future.”
He realized that he had said all that more to himself than to Kikyo.
She looked at him and said, “Such love is impossible. It can only come from a mother and father.”
“Or a soul mate,” he contradicted. “Tonight I discovered that someone else's love will always be there for me.”
He paused and continued saying, “I feel like I can take on the world.” He said again more to himself than to her.
Calmly she asked, “Are you referring to Kagome's love?”
He remained silent yet in affirmative.
She said, “I have noticed an internal strength within you since my return. I must admit that it is because of her. But you did promise yourself to me. Did you not?” She asked.
“That is not in question here.” He said.
“It is if you are calling her your soul mate.” She responded.
“You forget that you weren't the only one who was deceived and hurt by all this. You are so obsessed with your death, converting me into a human and taking me to hell with you that I see no unconditional love here.” He said.
Kikyo looked into the distance this time and said, “Then you will break your promise because I cannot accept you as a Hanyou.”
He defied, “It is you; you are absolving me from my promise if you refuse me for who I am.”
She remained silent and then she had to agree, “So it seems.”
He continued, “Since you refuse me then I am going to have Kagome as my mate. As such she will accept my promise to you; we will both protect you.”
Kikyo stilled when she heard his decision. “You believe so much in her love that you are certain that she will accept this?”
“I do.” He said.
Kikyo turned to look at him and noticed that he no longer was the teenager she once knew. InuYasha was now a man who was standing up to her, standing up to protect his beliefs and to pursue his desires. She felt a pang of jealousy when she was forced to reluctantly accept that Kagome and not she was the reason for this transformation.
Her soul catchers surrounded her and as she was lifted into the sky she said, “Hear this InuYasha. You may have been absolved of your promise to be with me but you will still come to hell with me.”
Silent, InuYasha watched her part with those words echoing in his heart.
