Kagome ran toward the small rocking chair that sat in the corner of her dusty attic like room near the seldom-used fireplace when she miss stepped and fell past the rocker landing on her face she held back her tears, and stood making her way over to her bed she ducked under the covers just as the keys jingled and doorknob rattled.

Squeezing her eyes closed Kagome became alert only through her hearing she frowned when neither men bother to wake her instead the engaged in conversation as if she weren't even there, but that was something she was more than used to.

"My daughter can sometimes be unruly Milord, so getting answers from her may prove to be fruitless."

Inuyasha nodded scanning the dark, ill kept room he paused when he came to the lump in the bed he followed the lump with his eyes raising an eyebrow when he came to an exposed feminine flesh.

"Is that her?" He asked pointing toward the exposed thigh.

The older man turned to look sighing he said. "She's not very lady like either."

The Baron made his way over to his daughter whose face was concealed behind that of a dingy coverlet. "Kagome you have a visitor wake up!" The he added. "And cover yourself."

Kagome twisted away from her father's grasp and stretched as if truly waking, she blinked for effect. Kagome stared dumbly at both men who stood in her grimy chambers then smiled lopsidedly.

"Well speak girl." Her father commanded.

When she turned and looked at her father with a brow raised Inuyasha assumed that the girl was either deaf or dumb, but the gleam in her eyes said something else. So he tried to get through to her.

Edging close to the girl Inuyasha grimaced when he got a good look at her face, she wasn't nearly as pretty as her sister, but from what he could tell she did have a nice figure. "Girl, where did your sister run off to?"

Kagome almost wanted to laugh at this silly man surly he thought her dumb or maybe deaf never the less she still sat there unresponsive.

After several minutes passed The Baron became tired of this game. "Child you can speak, tell us where she is or I shall get you know who!"

Kagome's eyes widen in fear for a moment before she coolly replied. "She left in the dead of night she did tell me where." She paused. "I know nothing like always."

Inuyasha didn't know the `who' was but it was enough to scare the information out of this insolent wench, no wonder she was locked away if he had a daughter as insolent as her he'd lock her away too.

"So as you can see Viscount St. Clair my daughter can not be of any help to you because she also has no clue where Kikyo is."

Inuyasha nodded before making eye contact with Kagome's dull brown eyes. "You are sure you don't know?" He asked.

"Quite positive." She replied.

"Well, I guess I'll be on my way." He paused. "Good day to you both I can show myself out."

Kagome watched as he left knowing that he was quite possibly the most beautiful man she had ever laid eyes on and quite possible the most dangerous.

When her father turned to leave he sighed. "You remind me of your mother every time I look at you."

Kagome frowned. "I know that's why you keep me locked up here remember."

Her father said nothing as he left the room not forgetting to lock the door carefully behind him.

When he left Kagome grabbed the closest thing to her and threw it the object shattered against the door glass pieces everywhere. Kagome surveyed the mess the collapsed against her pillows weeping out her pain.

Later that night…

"So what your saying is you had the perfect wife picked out, but then she flees in the dead of night, and the only person witness to this is her sister whom no one knows about?"

"Yes Miroku, Yes, Yes, Yes!" Inuyasha repeated enthusiastically.

Miroku Blackmore swirled his drink around in his glass before knocking it back. "Your crazy." He said. "Why would a Baron keep his child a secret bastard or no, she could still marry well and save his fortune everyone knows that wife of his has drained him dry."

"I'm not sure about that Miroku, but the thing is I need a wife and now that Kikyo had fled there is no one left."

Miroku stood. "Well old buddy that may not be true, after all you did say she had a sister."

Inuyasha shook his head. "The woman is a complete dimwit, and she doesn't even compare to Kikyo at all!"

"Not all women are Kikyo." Miroku turned to fill his glass. "And thank God for that."

"She wasn't all that bad, Miroku." The Viscount grumbled.

"I would convince myself of that too if I was screwing her all the time." He knocked back another before setting his glass down. "Well I must getting going I promised Sango I'd be home for dinner."

Inuyasha shook his head. "She got you besotted."

Miroku shrugged on his coat. "She does not."

"What ever, just give her my love will you?"

"I can do." Miroku said as he headed toward the study doors. "You will think about what I said right? About the sister?"

"Yes Miroku." He tone slightly aggravated. "Now leave before I have you thrown out."

Miroku left laughing as he closed the door. Inuyasha sat with a bottle of Brandy in his hands unsure of what to do because after all he did indeed need a wife and at this moment now was no time to be picky. Maybe he should take Miroku's advice, after all how bad could she be especially if he was to take her out of that shithole and give her a beautiful home and a generous dowry.

Who was he kidding the woman would most likely be ungrateful to him regardless her current situation. Inuyasha turned to the huge glass double-doors that lead out to the balcony from his study. He looked to the sky for answer seemingly they had none until a great ball of light came shooting through the sky!

He was no dummy, but then again he was no child either, and wishing on stars to solve his problems would a very childish thing to do he was after all a viscount, but then again what could it hurt?

Inuyasha took a deep breath and thought hard before sighing. "There that should do it." On his way in he paused briefly. "I feel as if I'm some little kid, feh! Wishing on some damn star."

"Master St. Clair did you say something?"

Inuyasha colored a bit when he say his butler Myoga standing in his study. "No, I mean yes!" He stammered. "What I said was that I need to look into the personal matter of finding myself a new mistress."

Myoga raised an eyebrow. "Whatever you say master but I can to inform you that I and the staff shall be retiring for the night." He paused. "Will you be needing anything Milord?"

Inuyasha waved him off. "No Myoga I'm fine goodnight."

"Goodnight to you too." With that the older man bowed and left.

Inuyasha knew that Myoga didn't believe his cock and bull story that manservant was to smart for that, but he wasn't completely lying about personal matters because he did still need a wife. Inuyasha decided that tomorrow he would go back to the Ellis resident, and find out more about that stubborn mule, named Kagome.

***

Kagome lay sprawled out in bed, wide-awake, with her eyes glued to the ceiling. Her thoughts were focused on a happier time a time when she was allowed to run free, to play, to just be normal; but a time like that existed no longer for her, because just like her mother it too died.

Her mother had been a beautiful woman in her memories, she smelled of vanilla, and she always had a smile on her face.

She was once told that her mother was a French native with a lovely voice and even lovelier attributes. Her dear sister and stepmother never failed to mention that she didn't inherit such qualities. Kaede a French maid that had been a friend of her mother's, and took on the job of watching over her after her mothers' death had told her many stories of their adventures.

Kagome rolled over in bed and turned to the small dirty window in her room, over her bed. Raising a sleeve-covered hand to the window she wiped one square clean, and gasped when she saw a shooting star. Shooting star's were only supposed to exist in fairy-tales right?

Fairy-tales or not she wasted no time in making her wish she closed her eyes and prayed like hell that her wish would come true.

She longed for adventure, freedom, but most of all she longed for love but at this point in life love would be impossible for a 21 year-old woman to gain.

She sighed a little crestfallen because she knew logically that her wish would never come true, but little did she know that tonight the fates were conspiring tonight.
