Chapter 5~Thoughts!
The carriage that carried Kagome had stopped just outside of the castle gates. Kagome had requested some time to think before she made her decision. Miroku and Jaken had not wanted to stop, but they understood her reasons and complied with her request. Outside the castle walls were lush green meadows and fields of flowers, and Kagome walked upon these, having promised to stay within sight of the carriage and the guards.
Truth be told, Kagome was scared witless. She didn't know what to do. The whole situation had seemed like a lot to take back at her father's palace, but she had thought she could handle it. Now she was told this? It was too much, she thought! Too much to ask of her, too much to expect, and too much for her to endure. She was just not accustomed to this type of responsibility. All her life she had been pampered and cared for. All the important decisions had always been made for her, even down to what she would wear everyday. Her biggest worries had been her sisters' teasing, her lessons, and the small amount of mischief she caused with some of the students or her tutors. She had never really made any decisions on her own before.
She realized during the carriage ride that she had not only volunteered for something she had not really thought about thoroughly, but this would also be the most important decision in her life.
How was she supposed to marry this demon slash man? She had thought and hoped that he would not look bad and any demonic features he had, she would get over, get used to. At most she had vowed to be the best wife possible, to do her duty. Now? Now she just wanted to run back to her home and hide in her room and call the whole thing off. It had been bad enough that she was being asked to marry a hanyou she didn't even know, but now they expected her to marry him while unable to see him? To share her wedding bed with a figure hidden in darkness and shadows? It wasn't fair that he would see her and she wouldn't be able to see him. How could they ask this of her? It was not fair.

Inuyasha had known when the carriage had entered his domain. He had been informed of the carriage's progress, the progress of his wife to be. He snorted. Wife? Wife? Why the hell did he need a wife? He didn't want to get married; he was happy enough the way he was and, by demon standards, he was still fairly young. He had been happy, content. He answered to no one, didn't have some wench hanging all over him asking for this and that and demanding his attention. Not that he hadn't had a woman before, hell he had a full wing filled with concubines. There were human, demon, and even hanyou wenches of all types and sizes. He had sampled many over the years and they satisfied his needs just fine when he had the itch. Now, just because his mom and dad had made some treaty with his mom's human relatives, he was being forced to marry and be with one woman for the rest of his life.
Sure there was rules and such and privileges that a demon lord could partake in. A lot of demon lords who were mated still kept many concubines that they enjoyed regularly. But being a dog demon, he had other rules as well. Dog demons, of course, mated for life. Yes, he wouldn't be bound to the human wench 'til he actually marked her, but he was also half human, and he would be married to her in human tradition as well. He had loved his mother more than anything so he wouldn't disgrace her by dishonoring her ways. Therefore, he had made his own silent decree that 'til he mated her properly, or she went back home, which he was hoping for the most, he would be honorable in all respects. It was true that even if she left, he would still be married and he would honor his human vows and take care of her for the rest of her days, but as long as she was at her own palace and not in his, then he could deal with it. Then there was the fact that unless mated in demon ways, she would not benefit from a prolonged lifespan to match his own and would die a mortal death. In demon years, he could outlive her and still be considered young and a good catch, and then when and IF he ever did fall in love, he could marry his love properly. But 'til then, he would honor his human wedding vows to his human bride. He just hoped he could endure her for a whole year.
After all, what did he know about this wench? Nothing. All he knew was that she was human and the daughter of his mother's stepsister. There was no blood between them, but it still felt strange to marry his step cousin. It wasn't like royal families didn't marry distant relatives and all to keep their titles and power within the family, but for him, it was still odd.
As he thought of all this, he walked to the window of the tower room he was in. The tower room was his refuge. No one but him ever came in there and he was only to be disrupted if Kanna needed him or there was a very important matter to deal with concerning his lands. Other than that, he was to be left alone.
This had been his mother's sewing room once upon a time. She had loved to stare out the huge balcony windows as the sun shone in and look over the vast beauty of the surrounding land as she sewed and sang him songs from her youth. This room held some of his fondest memories, so when he had become lord and needed a place to get away from it all, he had come up here; this was his refuge, his place of solace and peace.
As he looked down over his lands, he could clearly see over the palace walls and noticed the carriage. At first, he wondered if something had happened, but then he saw Miroku leaning against the side of the carriage, his guards at attention, and Jaken kicking at the ground and looking disgruntled. He looked in the direction of Miroku's stare and noticed what he was looking at. A girl. A young human girl. She was cute, but nothing really special and by the look of her gown, she was royalty. So this was his bride? She was a child. Not any older than Kanna in human years, although Kanna was only ten in demon years, twenty in human ones.
Truth be told, she didn't look much younger than him, but it was plain to see that she was not the eldest of the three daughters he had heard about. By the looks of it, she was the youngest. Why would the human lord send his youngest daughter? Of course, the treaty didn't state which daughter he had to marry just as long as it was one of them, but the youngest? Human tradition always had the eldest marrying first and, to his knowledge, neither of the lord's eldest daughters were either married or betrothed. So what the hell was this?
And what the hell was she doing out there? Just walking among the meadows and flowers outside of the castle? Was she calling the whole thing off? Having second thoughts? Hell, he prayed to Kami she wasn't. Yes, he was not crazy or even looking forward to getting hitched, but he wouldn't allow Naraku to get his hands on his family lands let alone his baby sister; he would kill Naraku first, which would cause a war between the demon lords, something he had to avoid for Kanna's sake. So, although he wanted nothing more than to send the wench home, he needed her for Kanna's sake, so the wench better not let him down.
A/N~Okies here's the next chap, sorry its short, still sick and I know it wasn't the meeting but promise the next will be, although we do know Kags won't be able to actually see him, but she will be able to hear him and stuff, so should be interesting. I hope, lol, again ty for the reviews and your patience. Huggles and smiles, Mija.
