RECAP:
Dio took a deep breath as he watched Luciola’s retreating back and after it disappeared around the corner he headed in the opposite direction toward the bridge and Alex’s office. He didn’t know what he would say to Alex once he got there but knew it had to be done if they were to leave that night with Alvis along with them.
Chapter Eighteen: The departure of Claus, Lavi, and Dio.
Dio slowly walked to Alex's office deep in thought of how to convince the captain to let Alvis leave with them that night. He finally raised his head when he came to the door that lead to the bridge raising a hand pushing it open. All heads in the room turned to Dio as he entered the room. He gave them a small smile as he asked
"Alex may I speak to you?"
Alex gave a nod as he rose from his seat motioning for Dio to follow him as he walked down the hallway to his office. Once Dio was inside Alex quickly shut the door sitting down at his desk his chair turned so he could look at Dio.
Dio sat down on the sofa's edge his hands folded in his lap, he swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat as he began speaking
"Alex I have a proposition to offer you, it is about Alvis." He didn't wait for Alex to answer as he cleared his throat continuing
"As I am sure you probably have already been informed my little family and I are leaving the Sylvana tonight. I think that Alvis should come with us it might be safer for her on the surface and it will separate her from the mysterian that you have in your possession." He took a quick glance at Alex's face making sure that he was listening as he continued
"You know I fear Delphinae and now that I am sure she has heard of Lavi and I's union she will be coming to take her revenge and Alvis. I am leaving here because I know this is the first place she will target. I am also trusting you to take care of her and exile since that was already in your plans at the start was it not?"
Alex gave a short nod and Dio felt a small smile cross his face as he continued
"Alvis would be safer away from here with Lavi and I since we have no knowledge of the contents of the mysterian and don't have any in our possession."
Dio felt a hand on his shoulder and raised his eyes to see Alex standing by him, his hand on Dio's shoulder making him stop talking. Alex's lifeless eyes turned to the picture sitting on his desk as he said
"Say no more I will let Alvis leave with you but I must insist that Claus also go along I feel that it is best that way that is all I can really do to make up for my past. I know it will be hard to get him to leave but I will talk to him and explain it is for Alvis' sake that he go."
Dio gave Alex a small smile his eyes narrowing as he replied
"If that is what it takes then fine but tell him that we are leaving as soon as possible and to be ready."
Dio stood bowing toward Alex as he let himself out of the office and left the bridge his eyes on the floor. He wasn't all that happy about Claus coming along but if that was what it took to take possession of Alvis then it couldn't be helped. Jealousy flashed in his eyes as he thought about how happy it would make Lavi. He made a mental note that he had to keep a closer eye on the two of them now that they would be together more.
Dio lost in his thoughts almost walked right past his room stopping a few feet past the doorway he put a smile on his face as he turned and let himself into the room. His gaze landed on Lavi's sleeping form still on the bed his face straining as he thought of how much he wanted her right that moment, but he knew that there wasn't time for that.
"Lord Dio?" Dio jumped as he turned to see Luciola standing in the doorway a small smile across his face. Dio returned the smile his face relaxing as he said
"Luciola, it seems that we have another small problem. Claus is to accompany us on Alex's request since we are to take Alvis. I have a feeling that he doesn't completely trust us but then I don't know why he would hand Alvis over into our care if he felt that way."
Luciola's face was set in a thoughtful expression as he asked
"So what is the problem lord Dio? The fact that Claus is joining us or that Alex doesn't fully trust us?"
Dio gave a short laugh as he said in a small voice
"I am not sure Luciola but I guess I don't have time to think about that now. Is everything ready?"
He gave a sigh of relief when Luciola gave a quick nod. He turned to Lavi's sleeping form as he said
"Good. Luciola could you take care of the packing while I wake her?"
He didn't wait for an answer as he sat on the side of the bed placing a hand on Lavi's cheek a small smile on his lips as he thought You are mine and no one will take you from me not even Claus. He took his hand from her face lightly shaking her shoulder softly saying her name.
Lavi opened her eyes and immediately sat up touching a hand to her forehead as she gave a small moan, closing her eyes. She finally opened them when she heard the lid of her trunk slamming down noticing that Luciola was in the room along with Dio who now sat at her side on the bed. She looked around confused as she asked
"What happened all I remember was getting sick and then that's it. Why are you taking my trunk away Luciola did something happen?"
Dio tilted his head to the side smiling at Lavi's confusion as he answered
"We are leaving the Sylvana." He quickly brought a finger up to her lips as he continued
"There is no need to look so distressed. Alvis will be coming with us and on Alex's request Claus will also make the move with us."
Lavi's eyes went wide tears filling her eyes as she said in a quiet tone
"Claus is coming with us and Alvis too?"
Anger flashed across Dio's face but was quickly gone as he gave her a slow nod jealousy raging through his body when he saw a tear break free and slide down her cheek. He quickly calmed himself down wiping the tear with his thumb as he asked
"Does it upset you so much? We could go by ourselves if you like Lavi?"
Lavi's body stiffened at his question as she gave a smile quickly replying
"No, it's not that I am just so happy that I will be with them and know that they are safe."
Dio took a sharp breath in as he quickly turned away from her letting his hand drop from her face as he stood. He turned his back to her as he said in a tense voice
"We are leaving now is there anything we are forgetting?"
He kept his back turned facing the door as he walked toward it hearing Lavi get up off the bed he turned to her watching as her eyes scanned the room quickly. She then turned her face to Dio shaking her head.
Lavi had noticed that Dio was acting a little weird but she didn't pay any mind to it excitement filling her at the idea of living with Claus and Alvis once more. She followed Dio's retreating back down the hall trying to memorize every detail of the ship before she left knowing that it would most likely be the last time she would be on board. When they entered the van ship hanger she gave a small gasp when her eyes fell on her father's van ship. It was repaired and she quickly walked up to it placing a hand on it's cold steal a loving look in her eyes. She jerked around when she heard footsteps approach her from behind and joy filled her when her eyes rested on an unhappy looking Claus with a bubbling Alvis standing next to him. Lavi quickly opened mouth saying
"hello Claus."
Claus lowered his eyes staring at his feet as he said
"Hello Lavi. I want you to know that I am only going because Alex ordered me to in order to protect Alvis. I am not running away from a battle and when Alvis is safe I will return and continue to fight for our fathers."
Lavi's lower lip quivered as she lowered her eyes from Claus' face shuffling her feet on the floor. And when Alvis' face swam into view from underneath Lavi quickly put a smile back on her face. She pulled Alvis' leaning body against her's as she said in a chipper voice
"I am so happy Al, We are going to have fun and start over okay?"
Lavi felt the small girl give a cheerful nod making her laugh. She raised her eyes once more trying to look at Claus' face but was unable to due to the fact that he was no longer there but climbing into the van ship. She turned releasing Alvis as she placed a hand getting ready to climb up into her usual spot but she stopped when a white gloved hand was placed over her's. She turned confusion on her face as her eyes met with Dio's smiling face as he said
"You and Alvis are to ride with Luciola. Don't worry I will ride with Claus and make sure he gets to our destination okay."
Lavi wanted to protest opening her mouth but quickly shut it when the hold Dio had on her hand became almost painful. Her eyes widened as she lowered her head stepping out of the way so that Dio could climb in, disappointment in her every move. She sighed but quickly put a smile back on her face when Al took her hand leading the way over to the van ship with the waiting Luciola a small look of concern on his face as he watched Dio and Claus starting to head out the hanger. The look quickly became serious as he started his van ship turning around to make sure Lavi and Al were secure a smile on his face when he saw that Lavi gave him a thumbs up.
As they started out into the sky Lavi turned looking at the Sylvana wondering if she would ever see it again a sad look on her face. She quickly turned when she felt Al tug on her sleeve pointing to a cloud saying it looked like a bunny. It made Lavi smile pushing away her thoughts of the Sylvana and the ache that now held her heart.
