"You don't have to go," Yori told her. "We never have guests!"
"Yes, Alana," Midori said slowly. "You're more than welcome to stay here if you wish."
"No, it's ok. You seem to have your hands full and I don't want to add to it," she said. Grabbing Yori's hand so wrote down her address. "Just come when you want to. Like I said, you pick your own hours." She walked to the door. "Have a nice night. It was nice meeting you."
Yori looked down at the address. He'd never been to that part of town except for once or twice. All the houses there were huge.
"Yori, make sure your sisters don't eat all of it," Midori said as she left him inside. "Alana, wait. I wanted to discuss this...business proposition of yours."
Alana turned around and stopped. "Have I...done something to insult you?"
Midori shook her head. "You'll have to excuse me, but I'm not so trusting of your kind as Yori is. He's...far too trusting for his own good. If someone promises him food then he'll be their best friend forever." Shaking her head, she looked at Alana. "My brother is special...even for our kind. I'm sure you've noticed that he's not exactly the brightest of our kind. I just want to make certain as to why you're hiring him to help you."
"You're brother is the first Eldarian that I've met who hasn't been mean to me just because I'm human. I treat everyone the same despite what race they are or where they are from. I've never had the privileged to be treated that way by anyone else except him." She pushed her hair from her face. "The first that we met, he threw a fish at me even though he knew it could get him in a lot of trouble. He wasn't afraid. He may not be the brightest, but...he was honest with me even though I'm a human. I just need some things around the house fixed. He'll get paid for it and I promised to feed him meals too. If it makes you feel any better, I have a rather large house with a pool. The days he comes over to work you can bring the little ones over and swim. It's not like anyone else is using that house but me."
Midori groaned as she heard this. He threw a fish at a human. That was just like him. He never thought about the consequences of his actions. "No...it's okay," she said with a sigh. "If Yori trusts you, then I will to for now." Her eyes narrowed as she glared at Alana. "But if anything happens to him while he's working for you I'll hold you personally responsible. I know the kind of people that live in your neighborhood. They think we're nothing but trash. If they hurt him...." She shook her head. "I'll make certain that he comes to see you tomorrow so he can start work. Thank you for the food."
"I doubt anyone will even see him where I live. The property is surrounded by trees and there isn't many houses around that area. For some reason, the rich likes privacy. They all have big yards with big fences and big trees so no one can see in or out. Your brother will be safe," she promised. Turning back around, she started walking again. "Have a nice evening."
The next morning Yori was shaken out of a sound sleep by his sister. After having clothes thrust at him, he grudgingly got dressed in a pair of jeans and his favorite sleeveless hoodie. Scratching at his collar, he grabbed some of the left over sushi from last night and began to eat it as he started toward Alana's house. By the time he got there, the sushi was all gone, but he was fired up and ready for work. He checked the address on his hand to make certain he was at the right place before knocking on the large door.
Alana opened the door still in her pajamas. "Come in. I made breakfast," she said yawning. She let him walk in then closed the door behind her. "Follow me. It's easy to get lost in here," she said and started towards the kitchen.
Yori looked around the large expanse of her house. This place was huge! His whole house could fit just in her entrance room. Though she spoke of breakfast, his sister had told him to focus on the work so he could get done quicker. "Umm, what do you need me to do first?" He sniffed the air, something smelled really good.
"We can start when we eat. I'm hungry and I still have to change," she said as they entered the kitchen. She handed him a plate and put a large amount of food on it. "I know you eat a lot so I made a lot." She started eating. "You like eggs and bacon right? I don't really know what you're in to."
"Mostly I eat fish," he told her with a smirk. "But as long as it's edible I'll eat it." He began to nibble at the food, trying to remember his manners. "Sorry for coming so early. I didn't mean to catch you in your pajamas, but sis wanted me out of the house."
Alana laughed. "I don't usually get out of my pajama's for hours after I'm up. I'll remember the fish thing for next time." She walked over to her fridge and pushed a button. "Order fish," she said to it and the fridge beeped, adding fish to her weekly shopping list. When they finished eating she made him follow her up stairs. She pointed to her room. "Just sit on my bed and I'll change real quick." He sat and she grabbed her clothes, going to her bathroom. At first she forgot to shut the door and just took her shirt off without thinking. Covering herself she smirked. "Sorry," she said to Yori and closed the door to finish changing.
Yori's face turned blood red as she started changing. He quickly looked away, and stared at her room so that he wouldn't be tempted to look again. Her room really wasn't what he expected it to be. It was girly, but then it wasn't. Her room was nearly as confusing as she was. While she was getting dressed he laid back on her bed, a soft purr coming from him as he curled up. Her bed was so soft and nice.
Alana looked down at him after changing. She had put her hair up so she could work. "You just purred...I don't know if that's weird or not," she said. Reaching down, she started rubbing his ears.
Yori began to purr again as she rubbed his ears...at least he did until he realized what was happening. His cheeks turned red as he quickly sat up. "Umm, sorry...uh...what do you want to work on first?" Work. Yes, work was definitely a good idea. Very good. It kept one busy, and it kept one's mind occupied.
"Ok, not weird. Just cute," she said smiling. "Come on." Once again he followed her. She took him out back and pointed to the pool. "It really needs to be cleaned. The auto cleaner broke a few weeks ago and I couldn't seem to keep up the work myself. We can start on that then move to the gutters and then the lawn. The gutter cleaner and the lawn robot are also broke...I don't know how to fix them and I didn't see any use in buy a new one when I could do the work myself. But I can't reach the gutters and I have a really big yard. That's a lot to do on my own." She looked around. "The house needs a lot of work. The pool house does too. And the stupid robots my aunt buys just keep breaking."
He ignored the cute comment for now. Yori knelt down by one of the small robots and poked it, watching it fall over to the ground. "Yeah, these things have seen better days." Looking at that needed to be done, he sighed. It was going to be a long day. "Okay then, well let's get started." He went straight to the pool house. The pool needed to be cleaned, so the pool house must have what he needed. After grabbing everything he needed he looked at the jug of chlorine. Opening the lid, he nearly fainted as the odor hit him. He got dizzy for a few moments, finally managed to regain his footing as he carried all the stuff out to the yard. Within minutes he was covering his nose with one hand as he poured the chlorine into the filters.
Alana worked along side him. By lunch time, she ordered fish for him and had it delivered to the house. They ate outside and didn't say much but enjoyed the warmth of the sun. Afterward, they picked up work again. When the sun started to go down, Alana walked him to the front door and handed him a large thing of money.
"Thanks for the help. Come back when you can. There is still more to done," she said.
Yori looked at the money and smiled. "If you'd like I can come back tomorrow," he told her. They agreed on it, and the next day started out as the same routine. Halfway through the day, Yori was dying due to the heat. He took off his shirt and tied it around his waist as he haphazardly positioned himself on the side of her roof so that he could clean out the gutters for her.
"When was the last time these things were cleaned?" He stuck out his tongue in disgust as he dropped a bag of gunk down to the ground.
Alana looked up at him while pulling weeds out of the garden. "It's been a while. Not a lot of people can get up there like your kind so I couldn't really just go around asking an Eldarian to come home with me," she said. She smiled at his chest. "You are very well toned. You must do a lot of work to get like that. Or is all your kind so fit?"
He dropped another bag of mush down to the ground. This gutter was clean. Back flipping off of the roof, he landed gracefully on the ground. Grabbing the bags, he tossed them toward one of the few robots which was still functional. The bags disappeared into its stomach, which quickly reduced the garbage to ash. Looking down at his chest, he just shrugged.
"I do a lot of manual labor which keeps me fit, I guess. That and fighting in the arena when I get the chance." He smirked and flexed playfully. "Though our kind is naturally stronger then yours. I don't really know that we need to work out or if it just comes naturally."
She stood and wiped the dirt off her. "You look hot. Want to take a break? We can break the clean pool in," she said gesturing to it.
He looked toward the nice clean pool. He almost hated to get it dirty. "That does sound nice," he admitted. "But if I get my clothes wet I don't really have anything to change into."
Alana went into the pool house and grabbed him a pair of trunks. "Here," she said handing them to him. "We have a little bit of everything in this house," she shrugged. "We can change in the pool house."
He looked down at the trunks and smiled. With some minor alterations they would fit just fine. "You can change first," he said. Popping out a claw, he carefully made a small slit in the back of the trunks for his tail.
"The pool house is like a small house. It has rooms and a bathroom. We can both change," she said going back into it. She went to one of the rooms and changed into a blue bikini the let her hair down and came back out.
"Oh...." Not much else to say. He went into the small room and changed into the trunks. After pulling his tail through he stretched and exited. His eyes widened as he saw Alana in the bikini. "Wow," he whispered beneath his breath. When she looked up at him, he dropped his hand into the pool. "The water's slightly cool, but it should feel good."
Alana smirked. He was totally checking her out. She dove in and swam back to the top. "It's not so bad." She swam to the edge and grabbed his hands. She pulled and he fell in with a slash.
Yori gasped as he was pulled head first into the water. He shuddered, it was freezing! Growing, he dove after Alana, pulling her down as he laughed and swam away from her.
Alana came back up in the water and smiled. "It is so on!" she warned. They splashed around and nearly drowned each other before it started getting late. Like the day before, she walked him to the door and paid him.
The week went on like that. On the days she had school, he would meet her at her house afterward. They didn't talk too much, but Alana didn't mind. She paid Yori everyday and on some nights she sent food to his house for his sisters.
Yori was almost sad when the week was up. He'd finished his last assignment for Alana, which meant that he didn't really have any reason to come back to her house. As they stood outside her house once more, the moon was already rising in the horizon. "Umm, thank you for all the food...and money. If you ever need anything else you know where to find me," he said. Even though he'd already paid he was hesitant to go. Hanging out with her had been fun.
Alana sighed. She didn't want him to leave. He was the only person that she really talked to. If he left then there was really no reason why he should come back. "Well...you don't really have to go..."
Yori's ears perked up slightly. "Well, I already did all the work on your house." What other reason could he stay for? "Is...there anything else I can do?"
Alana rubbed her arm nervously. No there was nothing. But she still didn't want him to go. She was growing attached to him. She hadn't had someone to talk to in so long and just having him around, even when they didn't talk...it was nice. "Well...no..."
Yori's ears fell when she said no. "Oh...," he said softly. His tail curled around his leg as he sighed. "Well...I'd better get going then." He tried to think of a reason to stay just a little longer, but he couldn't think of any. "I'll be fighting in the area again." His voice was slightly excited and hopeful. "Maybe I'll see you there."
Alana smiled. She reached out as if she was going to grab his hand and pull him back inside, instead...she pulled back and took a step back. It was one thing to have an Eldarian work for you but to have him in your house after dark was forbidden. The way she was feeling was forbidden. "Yeah..."
Yori smiled. She looked sad, so he would smile. Smiling made things better. "Well, I'll see you later! I'd better get back before curfew." He waved to her before hopping into the darkness. His eyes seemed to glow so that he could see. Looking back at her for only a moment, he made his way back home.
His little sisters were sleeping, but Midori had waited up for him. After giving her the money, she pushed him a tray of food and smiled. "Today was your last day wasn't it?"
Yori nodded as he ate. "I'm kinda sad.... It was fun working for, Alana. She always made things interesting, and she always had good food."
"Well, maybe it's for the best that it's over," she said. "Humans and Eldarians...I don't think our two races could ever be friends."
Alana stood at the door way for a long time just hoping he would come back. Of course, he didn't. She closed her door and leaned her back against it. Her heart ached. How strange was this? She never felt that way before. Was it because they had spent so much time together or because she couldn't stop thinking of him when he always left for the day? She slid to the floor and moved her hand over her heart. What the hell was wrong with her?
The next day Yori moved onto the next job. The boss wasn't nearly as nice as Alana, and the work was much harder. He had to work all day, which meant that he didn't get to go to the park like he usually did. By the time he got done at night he just wanted to go home and sleep. After three days of working, he finished the job. To celebrate, he got dressed for the arena. Midori shot him another look of disapproval.
"One day you're not going to come home," she sighed as she fished his little mask and collar.
"Maybe, but that's not tonight!" With that he bounded off to the arena.
Gil helped Alana up on the tower and she watched. "He'll be here tonight...I just know it..."
"For the past three nights you have been here looking for someone. Who is the lucky guy?"
Alana looked down at Gil. "No one." She tried not to blush but it was taking all she could to not go to his house just to see him at least once more.
"Are you blushing!?" he said looking up at her. "You never blush! Not ever! You don't cry and you don't blush! Hell! I haven't even seen you laugh!"
"Oh, shut up will you! It's starting!" Alana growled.
