His father shook his head. "He's alive," he told her. "I can hear his heart beat." Dipping his hand in some of Yori's pooled blood, he sniffed. "It was a nanite bullet.... We have to get him to a doctor. There's no telling what those nanites are going to do to his body."
"Who...who will work on him?" She didn't know if there were hospitals for Eldarian. She didn't know too much about Eldarian personal lives. Her looked at his father with a broken face. She was falling to pieces and he was the only one she could rely on his. He was a blurred vision in her tears, but she didn't seem to care.
"I've got someone who will be able to take a look at him," he said. He lifted his son into his arms and ushered Alana to his car. Sitting Yori in the back he took the wheel and sped off. There weren't many people who would be willing to work on an Eldarian, and there was only one Eldarian which specialized in nanite weapons.
Pulling up to a newly renovated building he pulled his son out and carried him inside. "Revier!"
An old and graying Eldarian hobbled over to him and looked at Yori. "Put him on the table," he ordered.
Alana clung to Yori's father's arm while she watched Revier look Yori over. She wanted to go to him, but she was sure she would get in the way. Instead she tried to control herself, though it wasn't working. She felt guilty. He was defending her and the bullet was aimed at her. That was twice he took a shot for her. And this time...he was seriously hurt.
The old Eldarian muttered things beneath his breath. Taking a blade, he cut into Yori's chest, leaving a long wound as if it was nothing. Taking Yori's blood, he put it onto a scanner. After reading over the data he shook his head. "It is not good. These nanites were made to kill Eldarians," he told them. "The fact that he's not dead yet is a miracle."
"Is there anything we can do?"
He shook his head. "The nanites have spread too far throughout his body. We'd have to remove everything inside him in order to stop it; and I doubt you have any cloned organs lying around."
Alana looked at him. "Can he share mine? Is that possible?" she asked in a shaky voice while still clinging to Yori's father.
The Eldarian looked over at her. "It's possible, but extremely dangerous."
Alana's lips pierced. She looked at Yori. "I have no family. I have no one other than him that loves me...if it comes down to it...take my life to save his," she said. "Please, it's the only choice we have."
"I don't think that..." He stopped as his computer started to beep. Fixing his glasses, he looked at his computer screen. "This isn't possible." Pressing a button, the image enlarged, showing the tiny nanites slowly being destroyed within his body. "Raize, is your son...is he a feral?"
Yori's father stopped and looked at his son. "Yes and no," he told him.
The old Eldarian waved him over to Yori. "It seems as if his body is somehow fighting against the nanites...."
Alana reached out and took Yori's hand. "He's so much stronger than anyone really gives him credit for..." she whispered. Her hand went to his ear and started rubbing it. "Come back to me, Yori..."
The gray Eldarian looked over at Alana. "He's fighting, but there is already damage to some of his organs. Are you still willing to share?"
Alana nodded sharply. "Yes," she said.
"Okay. There's a gown over there. Change and then hop up onto the second table," he told her. He began to grab his tools. Yori was already long gone, so there was no point for anything to dull the pain. He deepened the cut on Yori's chest, and spreading the flesh back. He could actually see the nanites grouping over his heart. This wasn't good.
Alana took her clothes off and put the gown off. Her legs wobbled as she walked to the table. She wasn't a Eldarian...healing would be hell. She laid on the table and looked over at Yori. Reaching over, she took his hand and closed her eyes as the tears drowned her face.
"If you can't save him by sharing my organs...give them all to him. He has a family, people that care about him. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I knew he died and I could have saved him," she whispered.
"I'll do what I can." He scanned her body with a light and then placed a sensor on her neck and on her chest. "That will keep your body from feeling pain but will keep you awake." He need her awake for this. Spreading her gown, he cut into her chest and began working. Cutting into her organs, taking half of them and then rescanning to start her organs healing themselves. After he took out Yori's organs he only had a fraction of a second to replace them and start them healing.
Alana kept her eyes closed tightly while she held Yori's hand. She had heard about this being done before, but there were times it didn't succeed. Many deaths were caused of it which was why they decided to start cloning organs. Her body jerked on it's own and she took a deep breath.
After he got the last organ done, he put a laser over their cuts. The laser spread the skin across their wounds to cover them up. He then took a needle and pressed it to Alana's skin. "Rest," he told her. "There's nothing we can do now other then wait."
Sleep consumed her before she had a chance to speak and her hand slipped from Yori's. Alana woke up what only seemed like minutes later but as she turned her head, she could see that it was dark outside. What time was it? She didn't want to move and a part of her didn't want to turn to look at Yori. She feared the worse. Her body wasn't in much pain, but she didn't want to risk sitting up. Instead, she just looked out the window and stared at the night sky while fresh tears rolled down her cheeks.
"My body hurts." Yori moaned. He'd been awake for an hour, but both his father and his doctor told him not to move. His organs were still growing. Sniffing the air he looked over at Alana. "Hey! You're awake! Why are you crying?"
Alana turned her head to him. She sat up and screamed then laid back down. She had forgotten all about not moving when she saw him. She also forgot she didn't heal like him and she still had a fresh wound. Reaching over, she took his hands.
"I'm...so happy your ok," she said while crying harder. "I thought...the worst."
He took her hand and smiled. "I told you that I'm hard to kill." He smiled as he looked at her. "They told me that I have some of your organs now."
Alana nodded. "Yeah..." she whispered. "How is Golden Yori? I know he took the hit. He said a lot of things...before...I was hoping to speak with him," she said wishing she was just a little closer to him.
Yori frowned. "I don't know," he told her. "He's been really quiet since I woke up."
She smirked. "Probably got his pride hurt," she said. Slowly, she sat up again and too deep breaths to get pass the pain. She sat there for a while trying to get pass how much it hurt before slipping off the table and making her way to him. She started rubbing his ear as soon as she got to him. "I love you, Yori. Stop taking bullets for me."
He purred into her hands. "I make no promises," he whispered, his blue eyes shining in the darkness. "At least when I get shot I always wake up with you there beside me." Taking a deep breath, he nuzzled her hand. "I love you too, Alana."
She leaned down lightly and brushed her lips over his. Looking at him, nothing was visible of the shot or the surgery. It was like he was just laying there for no reason. She opened her gown a little and looked at the long line where she was cut open. There was bruising around it and it was swollen.
"Wish I had your genetics," she said. "As soon as you hear from Golder Yori, let me know. I need to know if he's ok too..." She caressed his face. "Do you...remember anything?"
He shook his head. "The last thing I remember was kissing you and letting him take over." He reached out and ran his finger over the white line where they had cut her. Her skin was sensitive there, he could tell because he saw goose bumps on her flesh. "You know, I'm pretty certain they could give you some of my genetics," he smiled.
"I think I'm good with the missing pieces of my organs," she said.
Knowing that Blue Yori didn't remember anything broke her heart. She didn't show it, but in truth, she was letting that eat at her. Golden Yori yelled out that he loved her and that they were going to spend their lives together. Marriage. He wanted to marry her. She let her heart flutter at the thought of it. It had came apparent to her that when he proclaimed his love and defended her against the yelling people that she had fallen in love with him. She couldn't remember the exact moment she had fallen for Blue Yori, it just happened, softly and sweet. But she remembered clearly when she fell in love with Golden Yori. As soon as he announced his love for her and promised her marriage, she knew that she was in love. And since Blue Yori couldn't remember, that moment could only be shared with Golden Yori. She needed to speak with him. She needed to hear him say it again.
He smiled and continued to nuzzle her hand. "Well if you change your mind, just let the old cat guy know. He's been fussing over you ever since I woke up." He kissed her hand and looked up at her, yawning softly. "You should go back to sleep," he whispered. "It's late...and you heal better when you sleep."
"I'll sleep enough when I'm dead. I'd rather stay here and watch you," she said running a hand over his chest. "How does it feel to have a piece of me in you?"
He smiled and purred. "It feels warm," he told her. "When you touch my chest, it feels warmer...as if it knows that it's you that's touching me."
"I think I've made you a little more weirder than normal," she smiled. "You really have to start taking better care of yourself. I'm tired of watching you bleed...and next time I won't have the organs to spare."
"I'll stop bleeding when you stop getting shot at," he told her.
Alana reached over and pulled her table right beside his. She got back on it and laid down while wincing. She relaxed once she was finally laying down. "It's not my fault I'm hated so much." She closed her eyes and grabbed his hand. "If I fall asleep...don't go anywhere..."
He scooted over closer to her, gently wrapping an arm around her waist. "I'll be here when you wake up," he told her, as he cuddled and soon fell asleep. For once his dreams were fused with that of his other self. For once, he was alone in his head.
Alana woke again with the sun on her eyes. She blinked a few times and wiped the sleep from her eyes. Yori's arm was still around her and she smiled. "Yori...are you awake? It's morning," she whispered.
He moaned and buried his face in her neck. "It's too bright," he whimpered, nuzzling her while trying to stifle a yawn. When he finally did move, he looked around and sighed. He had sort of been hoping last night had been a dream.
"I'm hungry. Have you heard from your other half?"
He stretched and shook his head. "It seems that he's still mad. He hasn't said a word all night."
Alana looked away. "That's not like him...he would have came out by now...to at least see if I was ok," she whispered. "Something it's right."
"Maybe he's just mad like I was that one time. I didn't come out for three whole days."
"But he still heard from you. And he would have at least asked you about me. You didn't see the fire in his eyes that day...the passion for me. The love," she explained then looked at him again. "Something's wrong, Yori."
Yori frowned. Closing his eyes, he tried to do everything he could to reach out to his other half, but all he got was the silence of his own mind. "I don't hear him anywhere," he told her.
Alana placed her hand on his cheek. Maybe she could draw him out. Leaning in, she gave him a deep open mouth kiss, nibbling on his bottom lip and dipping her tough in deeply just the way Golden Yori like it.
Yori's eyes widened as she kissed him. She'd never really kissed him like that before.
"Ahem." They broke apart to see his father standing there. "I'm glad that you are both feeling better. Alana, if you will please get dressed I will take you back home where you can rest up."
Alana sat up slowly, careful not to cause too much pain. She look at Yori and sighed when she saw blue eyes. Where was her Golden Yori? He could never resist her touch like that. She slipped off the table and walked over to her clothes. Slowly, she got dressed. She couldn't help the tears that started to fall from her eyes. It was just like losing Blue Yori all over again.
